McCain can be trusted to pick a patriotic VP, the same type of guy as himself.

Obama? Well, we all know his choice will be style over substance, such a shallow man.

McCain well on the road to victory.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

McCain is an aged racist sellout with a pottymouth and quick burning fuse. Maybe he'll chose an incompetent like Condi Rice.

I'm hoping Obama will chose Biden.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

obama probably considered himself for VP before realizing he wouldn't make it past the vetting stage.

Obama picks Biden for running mate

Oops. We'll see how the Americans handle this one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"we all know his choice will be style over substance, such a shallow man." Excuse me!? Joe Biden is "style over substance"? You obviously know nothing about the man or his experience. The guy has been on the national political stage since the 70s. Sorry AlliedForces but your post has neither style nor substance.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Biden wouldn't have been my first choice but he's definitely a choice I can live with. I am pretty certain that the gop will go with romney because the only thing better than one candidate who will say anything and flip on their positions in order to pander to a specific audience is TWO candidates who will say anything and flip on their positions in order to pander to a specific audience.

Maybe he'll chose an incompetent like Condi Rice.

America could then end up with their first black, female president.

Kind of a boring choice. Maybe Team Obama is trying to pick someone who fits the Lydon Johnson mold (senior senator), so they can keep trying to regurgitate images of Camelot and portray Obama as the rebirth of Kennedy - the same way Bush and the Neo-cons copied World War II rhetoric to try to sell the Iraq war to the American people.

Is this the best the Ivy league educated dolts can do? Sequels? Nothing original? Nothing outside the box?

This choice will do nothing for Obama. The only positive of this whole thing is the slight to the Clinton's. There's a rivalry brewing within the Democratic party that will have to come to a head one of these days.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A good choice. Joe Biden is known for being able to talk - really talk - and he's also reportedly been picked due to his no holds barred ability to go after any Republican, anywhere, any time.

Another good thing Biden has going for him is his extensive foreign policy experience as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and the fact that - unlike McCain - he doesn't count his 5 years rotting in a POW camp as 'foreigh policy experience.'

Biden also has blue collar roots, which should help them pick up more of Clinton's supporters and he's got the age.

This is going to get good.

On the other side ofhte bench, if McCain picks the campaign loser, serial flip-flopper Mitt Romney, or abortion embracers Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman, he will go nowhere.

That said, I'm hoping McCain will pick Paris Hilton as his veep since he is an economic airhead, and she's just an airhead but far better looking :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Biden wouldn't have been my first choice but he's definitely a choice I can live with." I can too. I feel a bit better about the situation now. But, I am curious, wasn't Biden accused of racism a while back when describing Obama as "clean"?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That said, I'm hoping McCain will pick Paris Hilton as his veep" Sushi, this really shouldn't be a time to be sarcastic.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

wasn't Biden accused of racism a while back when describing Obama as "clean"?

Not just clean, but also "well spoken" and it's true, I've never heard Obama end a sentence with "Ya know wha I'm sayin?"

Oh, the wonders of the covert, subliminal racism of white "progressives."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wonder how many liberals here signed up for obama's text message alert. It had a "I've Got A Crush on Obama" ring tone.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama just handed the presidency to Mr. McCain.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wonder how many intellectual derelicts still think McCain is going to actually win?

Skip, I'm very pleased with Obama's choice, sarcasm aside. :-)

Join Obama and Biden together and they complement each other surprisingly well, however speaking is clearly the area where their skills clearly overlap.

I think McCain is going to pick someone equally if not more stupid than he is, but IF he wants to go anywhere in this campaign, he is going to need to stop mouthing off about Iraq and start waffling on about the issue he has admitted he is a complete lightweight - the economy, the No. 1 issue to Americans today.

This means he will likely pick someone with at least some economic credentials, maybe Mitt 'Flip-Flop' Romnney, one of McCain's arch enemies in the early stages of the election campaign.

However, considering McCain's hellbent drive to squander untold billions more of hard-working Americans' money and lives into the failed Iraq war, I think Chuck Norris would fit McCain's VP bill just perfectly.

RomeoRamen - "Obama just handed the presidency to Mr. McCain."

LOL!! Romeo, considering how very many times you have been wrong in the past, comments like this are just hilarious! :-)

Only in America!

Boy, I truly love my country. What other nation in the world where you can have such possibilities.

Biden as Obama's V.P. !!!!!! After Biden endorsed a Kerry-McCain ticket in 2004, and McCain seriously considered it. That is how much he can't stand Bush. Though the campaign that the Dems are trying to run is basically saying Bush and McCain more of the same.

This is going to be one heck of an election. Irony is going to be all around this year.

Just consider this article from 2004 from MSNBC mainstream media by the way.

Biden endorses a fusion ticket: Kerry-McCain Democrat's 'Hardball' comments likely to fuel new speculation

One of the presidential nominating season's most unusual ideas was proposed again Tuesday, this time by one of the most powerful Democrats in Congress, when Sen. Joseph Biden advocated a "unity" ticket of Democratic Sen. John Kerry and Republican Sen. John McCain.

Biden made his comments on MSNBC TV's "Hardball" when moderator Chris Matthews asked him: "Do you think McCain is seriously — and I mean this professionally — flirting with the idea of accepting a second place on the ticket with John Kerry, and creating a fusion ticket to run against the president?"

Replied Biden: "I think that this is time for unity in this country, and maybe it is time to have a guy like John McCain — a Republican — on the ticket with a guy he does like. They do get along. And they don't have fundamental disagreements on major policies."

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4542473

I'm posting the above not to slam Obama or Senator Biden in anyway. I'm posting the above to show Joe Biden puts country above party first just as he did in 2004 and he is in my opinion a great choice for V.P. Senator Biden will do his job as attack dog though he obviously has a healthy dose of respect for McCain also. I like that myself and I glad Obama choose him.

This is going to be a good election. I just hope Hillary is smart enough to keep out of it all the way now that Obama has made his choice.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Joe Biden will be a breath of fresh air after DICKtator Cheney. I don't know how they will ever get that funk out of the VP's office and residence. Hopefully it will be gone by the Obama/Biden second term of office.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Biden has never drawn more than 5% of the vote every time he ran for president (remember, he was in this race). Heh, Team obama picked a real heavy hitter.

democrat Lemming day fast approaches.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Lush Limbaugh said of this choice, "I hope he (Obama) picks Biden. There's a mountain of published media available on him." This just got ugly. I, and I'm sure many people feel the same, wish the US presidential race could all be over in 21 days, like in many civilized countries. This has gone on for far too long already.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If Biden was such a great choice, why was he such a non-contender in all his runs for the U.S. Presidency?

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think this was a darn good pick. If he would have gone with Hil the Republicans would have stirred their ranks to "defeat another Clinton". Joe (darn I like that name) is a good choice.

Now good old Mc will be forced to pick someone who can also talk the talk. Maybe he can pick a far right Republican to off his, well not so right views.

With this choice, Obama has just improved his chances from 54-46 to 60-40.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

considering McCain's hellbent drive to squander untold billions more of hard-working Americans' money and lives into the failed Iraq war

I think McCain is moving beyond Iraq. He wants to squander more blood and treasure messing with Iran and Russia. The guy is a total psycho, bought and paid for by the neo-cons. If the neo-cons couldn't get their first pick, Guilliani, they'd settle for McCain. So here we are.

Hoss1, you left out grape soda. The brothers love grape soda.

I'm glad Obama picked Biden.

Some people are just worried to death that Obama just might win.

Other's just look for vinegar to spat. < :-)

Sailwind - excellent 04:00 PM JST - 23rd August post - keep it up! :-)

Q: are you now considering a vote for Obama-Biden?

JoeBigs - "With this choice, Obama has just improved his chances from 54-46 to 60-40."

Wow, for the first time this week, this is something you and I agree on.

McCain had better start organizing the Failure Party for his supporters, the curtains are going to close on his "campaign" sooner than he thinks.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Biden, eh? Bi, bi, Obama!

Sushi,

Which way do you think undecideds are going to swing?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The empty suit just lost 18 million hillary-supporter votes. Heh, waiting to see the bounce Sen. 5 percent gives to Team obama.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Skip - "Which way do you think undecideds are going to swing?"

Tough call at this point, but I think Obama has made a VERY good decision to choose Biden as his veep.

Naturally, McCain will be considering his choice of veep based on Obama's decision to go with Biden.

The great thing about Obama's choice is that he has selected a man who is similar in age to McCain and who also has substantial foreign policity experience.

Write it down as an early prediction - I seriously think Obama is going to take this election.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Good call ramen. Yep, I am certain that all of Sen. Clinton's supporters will vote for Sen. McCain because he is so much more in line with their beliefs. That knocking at your door...it ain't NASA.

Heh, Obama's selection of Biden will increase McCain's losing margin by a good 10% :-)

AlliedForces - "The guy picks the old giy, so it looks like there is experience in his team."

That's probably because it IS experience, rather than the "experience" claimed by McCain, gained from languishing 5 or 6 years in a Viet Cong POW camp.

Biden is a good choice all round, especially for America.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I have watched Joe Biden appear many times on Meet The Press. His appearances with Sen. Dick Lugar are particularly noteworthy. The two have developed a true friendship across the aisle. They were always gracious to each other whether they shared the same opinion or not. He is a man of high intellect. He is a brilliant choice and I for one could not be more happy.

The McCain camp must be absolutely thrilled. Just a quick laundry list about Joe Biden.

On video repeatedly saying obama does not have the experience to be president

On video saying the country would be better off with John McCain and not obama as president

Biden can't help swing even 1 southern state and in fact kills obama's chances in the southern states that might have been in play.

Biden, the man that never could break 5% of the vote within his own party when he ran for president.

Last but certainly not least - On video saying Obama was a clean and articulate black man.

Heh, don't expect hillary or bill clinton to lift a finger for this campaign.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Also, don't forget Biden made the following statement:

"I've had a great relationship [with Indian Americans]," Biden said. "In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian-Americans moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking."

Sen. Joe Biden, democrat VP nominee

serial flip-flopper Mitt Romney

I've heard that before about Romney, but I can only put my finger on one thing that he flopped on, which was abortion. Can somebody tell me the other things?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

obama's "change" mantra that he's been pimping all this tine was for democrats to not choose hillary as their candidate because she represented all that was wrong with Washington and the "inside the beltway" crowd.

However, Joe Biden has been a part of that crowd far longer than hillary. Heh, obama is talking out all sides of his mouth - again.

Barack Obama has picked a complete oaf, in the style of himself, how does it feel domocrats. Bwahahaha

Making the case to vote for McCain even stronger, the nation can look forward to another 4 years of great leadership.

Biden will only increase the demise of Obama, great news!!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This choice by Mr Obama is another in the nail in the coffin for his campaign. The guy has lost track with reality. McCain can be trusted to pick a great VP.

The Democratic challenge has ended, Obama has sot himself in the foot once to often.

Obama has shown himself to be a pinhead.

and that`s a wrap.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well each man person is going to go for someone who compensates his perceived weaknesses. Obama, selected someone with a longer resume (following in the footsteps of GWB here in choosing Dick Cheney), and McCain presumably will go with Mitt Romney owing to his long career in the private sector. Yet by going with Romney, who lacks foreign policy experience and never served in the military, it detracts from McCain's "foreign policy" strength if the next guy on his team don't got none.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

One reason GWB is still alive today is because of who would replace him if he died in office. Obama choosing a white man as VP is sort of like painting a target on the back of his head if he wins the presidency. But I hope I am wrong.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sheesh,

Can't folks actually post something relevant to the Obama's choice???

Joe Biden has a record and one that is pretty impressive if you actually look at it. Obama made a good choice and speaks well of the man if he gets the top job as to his decision making. Think about folks, he could have picked Hillary.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

On video repeatedly saying obama does not have the experience to be president

It seems he just gained some experience!!

On video saying the country would be better off with John McCain and not obama as president

link or direct quote please. We are all aware of your wonky parapharasing.

Biden can't help swing even 1 southern state and in fact kills obama's chances in the southern states that might have been in play.

I am more worried about computerized voting machines. We know which party they are programed and moved about to favor. Its the party of Diebold. We all know what will happen in Florida especially.

Biden, the man that never could break 5% of the vote within his own party when he ran for president.

Just because he did not do well in the popularity contest does not mean he is not fit. If you are going to now say its all about the popularity contest, then I remind you that you legitimize Obama.

On video saying Obama was a clean and articulate black man.

Link or direct quote please. Again I suspect wonky paraphrasing.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

serial flip-flopper Mitt Romney

It takes a lot of cojones for an Obama supporter to bring up flip-flopping. Now let's see, Obama has flip-flopped on the Iraq war, campaign financing, NAFTA, corporate taxes, handguns, welfare reform, off-shore drilling, nuclear power, health care, homeland security, death penalty, Jerusalem, late-term abortion, willingness to debate McCain “anywhere, anytime”, etc. I don't recall a candidate flip-flopping on so many issues in such a short amount of time.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Betzee

Obama selected someone with a longer resume

Not hard to do.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not hard to do.

Ah, but the Republicans made that an advantage. Don't you remember how GWB campaigned in 2000 as a "compassionate conservative"? With a mere six years as Governor of the Lone Star state under his belt he had not accumulated enough of a paper trail for anyone to argue otherwise. The longer the resume, the more skeletons in the closet. Expect to hear more about McCain's involvement in the Keating 5 (Savings and Loan scandal) which cost the taxpayers plenty back in the 1980s.

I admit to taking perverse pleasure in watching those who voted for GWB twice rail about Obama's lack of experience. It's clearly a selective concern, especially since the current occupant has gaps in his work history while Obama does not.

All in all, Biden is a good choice. The campaign role of the VP is to attack and Biden can perform that role effectively against McCain. By contrast it's hard to see how Romney, if he's McCain's VP pick, can get much traction against Obama. He himself has neither foreign policy nor military service (despite coming of age during the draft). A partisan perspective.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sail, I really don't think that Sen. Clinton was an option. I agree with you that Sen. Biden is a good choice to join Sen. Obama. However, had the McCain camp not decided to go rovian with their campaign, I think we would have seen a different choice. No one here has mentioned it, but I think it's worth noting that no one (besides rudy 9-11 himself) hurt the rudy 9-11 campaign as much as Sen. Biden with this: "There's only three things he mentions in a sentence -- a noun, a verb, and 9/11. There's nothing else! There's nothing else! " I think Sen. Biden was brought on board to be a pit bull that will counter-attack Sen. McCain, since McCain decided to go negative with his campaign. In that sense, I don't think Sen. Obama could have picked anyone better.

Taka

Taka - "I think Sen. Biden was brought on board to be a pit bull that will counter-attack Sen. McCain, since McCain decided to go negative with his campaign. In that sense, I don't think Sen. Obama could have picked anyone better."

Exactly - I agree 150%.

Obama has made a real smart move, and I think we are going to see Team Deadmeat McCain struggling to cope with Biden's attacks.

And let's face it, the veep has to be ready to take over as president and Biden has gone for the top job twice, so he is that man.

It's all looking good for Obama.

Feel sorry for Deadmeat McCain though. He's going to be looking for another line of work in November.

Obama has flip-flopped on the Iraq war

How do you figure that??? It would be more apt to say Biden has flip flopped on Iraq, but still misguided. In truth, Biden has flip flopped on his confidence and trust in the Bush admin, just like anybody with any sense.

The Bush admin swore there were WMD in Iraq. Have they flip flopped? Or do they still insist there are WMD in Iraq?

Being as "flip-flopped" is one of a Republican's favorite words, I would think you would learn to use it accurately by now. Adjusting one's course to cope with new information and realities is not flip-flopping, and I suspect you have misapplied the term with most of the accusations you made, and not just about the Iraq war. But anwser my first question, because its about the most ridiculous accusation you have made.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If you see squirming, then you have quite the imagination. What I see is acceptance of Biden as a good choice of running mate.

undecidedbout08, thank for video of incomplete statements matched with incomplete details. It shows exactly how so many Republicans like thier politics pre-packaged in (seemingly) easy to absorb snippets.

Biden said he did not feel Obama is ready now (handily parapharased) but could be (in the future). No date given for the statement. Well, apparently Biden feels Obama is ready now, as he is standing right next to him! Yes, things do change over time (as much as conservates would like to stop time). If he got some information that made him feel Obama is now ready, then the proper course of action is to react to it, not pretend that time has stopped and he is stuck in the past.

I would however like to know exactly what changed his mind. I can't help but feel that was edited out.

But the last part was the best. You just got love it when the propoganda makers choose to cut a man's sentence in half, as if we are all so busy that we only have time for a 32 second campaign ad and no more! "I would be honored to run with or against John McCain because I think the country would be better off....." Better off what? With McCain rather than Obama? Is that what he said? Nope. Here is the rest of the statement, the bit the Republican party held back from your ears: "...be well off no matter who…". The statement ended there. He never got to finish because he was cut off.

Is this the straight talk express??? I always liked McCain's calls for staight talk, but I am afraid his campaigners did not get the message.

McCain has made similar pledges, he is 4 years older than Biden, and has 36 years congressional experience to Biden's 45 years. And what was he doing those other nine years? Why serving with the orignal good 'ol boys, the military wing of the military industrial complex, where he helped get funding for a new supercarrier behind the backs of the Carter admin!

Too funny!

But I don't think either story blocks either side from instigating true and fair reform. Its still a question of which side you trust to do it.

As Newt so concisely put it, the republicans can only nominate pygmies this year as they know its a lost cause.

What kind of experience does she have with Foreign Policy? She is Obama junior by three years.

Quote: She has recently come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.

It is sad really. He is playing the gender card and she seems to be vindicative. {Cat noises!!!!} ;)
