Obama 08.

Nuff said.

An historic week for the Democratic Party and for the nation. Congratulations to Barack Obama on his masterful campaign.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He's going to Hubert Humphrey in November...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In that case, we get Nixon.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

More like Mike Dukakis in November, Tatanka.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Go, Hillary!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In that case, RomeoRamenII, we get Bush 1. At least Nixon was partially effective even though he did send us spinning into deeper political paranoia.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge, a black Democrat president for the next 8 years. Don't you just love it?

Maybe it'll be enough time to start clearing up all of the problems caused by the Bush disaster

0 ( +0 / -0 )

she may continue her candidacy even beyond the end of the primaries." Can she legally do that?

FnC: "Sarge, a black Democrat president for the next 8 years. Don't you just love it? Maybe it'll be enough time to start clearing up all of the problems caused by the Bush disaster" What are you implying, that Sarge is racist?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

OOOHHH Obama lets make a baseball chant for him

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hey, it's kewl. The democratic nominee will be known pretty soon and then the republicans can start warming up their attack machine.

Yes, Hillary can campaign all the way to the convention if she likes.

Go democracy. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's going to be a very interesting summer. :)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

FnC - If the black Democrat were David Palmer or even Wayne Palmer, yeah, I'd be lovin' it! But if it's Barack Obama, no thanks.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Two pieces http://mparent7777-1.livejournal.com/333629.html which beg the question, of which country are they running to be President? And, it's high time that Hillary come to grips with realpolitik: http://mparent7777-1.livejournal.com/341353.html Even Hillary's campaign co-chair has faced it. Bill Clinton himself announced that this would be his last day on this kind of campaign. Just waiting for the hypercalorie challenged lady to sing!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

a black Democrat president for the next 8 years

obama's half black. Why is it liberals overlook that fact?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Congratulations Barack and well done Hillary! It's been a campaign well run by both of you. It's time to kick the GOP out and clean up Washington

0 ( +0 / -0 )

he's leap-frogged a white woman. now can he with a white man?

nah. watch the red states ya'll.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

KenjiYamamoto, it's not about Barack against Mccain. It's the GOP Machinery vs the Dems. This time around, I can bet you the independents are all behind the Dems and that's all they need to toss off the republicans.

President Barack'08!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

the independents are all behind the Dems" No, I am behind Obama, but I am not behind the dems as are many. If a good independent comes along, I'll switch in a heart beat. but, that may not be a good a thing. It has been said that Ross Perot cost G Bush Sr. the election. This time however, it may cost a democrat. Look and compare Ron Paul and McCain - very different and much closer to Obama.

Obama needs to start getting serious about bring them in.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There is a sense in these postings that somehow the Senator from Illinois is not qualified to be President because of his race and name. This is totally consistent with the same kind of Jurassic reasoning that has brought America's international image into disrepute. The notion that only white people has the experience and knowledge to run the world. The idea that it is some kind of birth right that they alone possess. That American democracy will only be credibility if they elect a white person.

They continue to push this impotent position in the face of the many who have long traded on just being white, having been given unfettered access to the best of everything and still turned out to be spectacular failures.

That the poor, black and socially marginalized in America are only fit be used as canon fader in its many declared and undeclared wars. It really piss them off to know that minorities in America has suffered brutality of slavery, the disease that is segregation, and the indirect disenfranchisement that comes with inner city poverty now have a chance to see the ascendancy of one of their own. It is Obama's "manifest destiny" to be President and there is not a dam thing anyone here can do about it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Everton: Why do you think that so many are scared of the man's race? And not for nothing, unlike you, I had a white dad who was nothing more than mid class at the best of times. I actually feel it has been the poor whites who have been the cannon fodder for rich libs' policies.

I don't think anyone is debating whether or not a non-white person can lead the nation, I think what you are failing to see perhaps Obama doesn't match up to what many want and not in the terms of race, but face it - he hasn't had a lot of time in the gov to prove himself. Heck, he really hasn't done much just a citizen at a law firm. I would be willing to bet you if someone like Colin Powell were to run in his heyday, you wouldn't be having this discussion.

Look how you are basically putting it: "inner city poverty" like this is really the fault of some white guy bearly making it. "now have a chance to see the ascendancy of one of their own" Ok, so its about them. Ok, so now what I want is the next person of Caribbean heritage, I can count on you to vote for them even if they are going against your own. Oh, since I have a half Japanese kid, then the next Oriental that comes by, you will by pass your own and vote for one of them.

It is the same old story that so many poor to middle class whites have to listen to as they are demonized for some historical event that they had nothing to do about and that all the black inner city poor's problems is their doing. That is why they have to vote for him? If they don't they are forever classified as racist? The man is doing damn good right now. It has 95+% of the black vote and a whole lot of white vote too. That point right there puts your theory in the toilet. Keep pushing that as so many are and all you will wind up with is another black candidate who didn't get elected. Now, what happens when there are two Obamas, as there will be in time and even on opposing sides. What happens when it is Obama going for re-election and I decide to run against him? I will forever place you in the racist world because you didn't want to take your guy down for some YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WOULD CALL ME!

It is Obama's "manifest destiny" to be President and there is not a dam thing anyone here can do about it." Yes, and every time his policies are questioned, he will have someone like you accusing them of being racist.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Get used to the short, white-haired guy, because we'll be looking at his face for the next four years. I wonder if his wife will bring along the Budweiser Clydesdales...

As I mentioned in an earlier post, McCain will take CA, TX, FL and NY for sure along with the Bible-belt states, so game over Barry Obama...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

obama's half black. Why is it liberals overlook that fact?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

game over Barry Obama." No, the game is not over. As long as a good independent does not come by, he may have it. The Bible Belt-ers are not all too warm to McCain. However, he is strong amongst Tex-Mexicans, Florida Hispanics but I think he is not liked in Cali. And you claim NY, you have got to be kidding me! Isn't the "View" shot from New York? He may get some place like Buffalo, but ain't getting the City Of New York and that is what 80% of the State....

Besides, do you really think McCain can live on for four more years? He is way too fat! As for his wife, I will wager she drops him and if elected, he would be the first to get divorced while in the White House. It ain't like she needs him, its actually the other way around.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

obama's half black. Why is it liberals overlook that fact?" Because they are usually scared living in their big houses in fenced in communities.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

RomeoRamenII said "a black Democrat president for the next 8 years obama's half black. Why is it liberals overlook that fact?"

If that is so important, then I would question most self-proclaimed whites about how white they really are. But it ain't all that important. I am more interested in how Obama (or McCain) would conduct themselves as president. Obama is young and that could either be a bonus or a failing, but McCain is beginning to sound like Bush 8 years ago ... and most people know how that turned out.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

the longer Hilary hangs around being shrill, the worse off she'll be in any future campaign..just admit defeat, let it go, and hit the sidelines

0 ( +0 / -0 )

1GiantStudMuffi said "obama's half black. Why is it liberals overlook that fact?"

Obama is half white! Why is it that Neocons overlook that fact? Not that it matters when. Bush and Cheney are all white and look at the mess they made.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

but McCain is beginning to sound like Bush 8 years ago ... and most people know how that turned out." Everyone knows that and almost everyone doesn't want that but when you have people forcing Obama down people's throats, the only way they have to react is by not voting for him.

"I would question most self-proclaimed whites about how white they really are" Well, you need to be careful there. That does work both ways.

the longer Hilary hangs around being shrill, the worse off she'll be in any future campaign" That's for sure. She more and more like some stubborn old rich lady.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Everyone knows that and almost everyone doesn't want that but when you have people forcing Obama down people's throats, the only way they have to react is by not voting for him."

Evidentially Bush was not that bad, if you are serious. Seems to me Americans are force fed their politics on a daily basis. Why single out Obama? Bad marketing?

Americans have not suffered enough if the reason they do not vote is because of expose and excitement. Turn off the TV for a couple of days and listen to something else. How about the BBC or the CBC and get your fill of PMs Brown and Harper.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why single out Obama? Bad marketing?" Well..... you are kidding me right?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skipthesong - My support for Senator Obama has nothing to do with race. I am simply convinced that he is the best person for the job. In addition, I don't know what America you are referring to, but the one I know at the moment can not be defined in any other context other than race. Maybe the future may hold a new perspective for all of us, but until that day arrives I am convinced that the issue of race would have no less prominence if Colin Powell had been the candidate.

The idea that Colin Powell would be better is now the "in thing" to say among Republicans and some Democrats. Here is a black man we would vote for so we are not racist knowing very well that this assertion will remain purely the stuff of intentions never to be fully tested.

You can pretend all you like about the race issue and bolster it with wishful, speculative and patently naive claims about Colin Powell, and how i am blaming some white guy for inner city poverty. But skiptheson - You can buy into that crap all you like but minorities are more sophisticated than you give them credit for, and if there was a choice between Jessy or any other current black leader the choice would still easily be Obama.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow, after reading Everton2's post you'd think Obama just lost to Clinton and is trailing McCain by 80 points.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

buddha4brain - "Obama is half white! Why is it that Neocons overlook that fact? "

What's a NeoCon?

Conservatives don't care what color a candidate/politician/SC judge is.

There is considerable enthusiasm on the conservative side about Louisiana's new Republican governor, Bobby Jindal. He isn't "white."

Bush's Sec of State, first and second, weren't "white."

Clarence Thomas is "darker" than Barack Obama.

It's "Liberals" who are the last group in America hung up on race.

Imagine if a Republican or even a Libertarian candidate had written, as Obama has , that he or she "found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race." [Dreams From My Father]

Bottom line - Barack Obama is a fraud.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If he's nominated, when obama loses in November it won't be because of his skin color. It'll be because of his politics. Don't look for Americans to elect a national security threat like obama.

The democrats keep promoting far-left candidates in a nation that is right of center politically. bill clinton has been the only successful dem in the past quarter century because he presented himself as a centrist. You'd think the DNC would have learned from that but it appears they didn't ... again.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

again Everton, until you are able to live on both sides of the fence, it is you who will never understand. What you claim is more learned and sold to you and not from your own perspective. It is you who pretends. You are doing your best to force people to vote for him and that's not good. YOu are using reasons of slavery, racial disparity, and what not. This is why I think I would be a great candidate in regards to race relations because unlike you, I can jump back and forth.

what naive claim about Colin Powell did I make? I didn't say he would be better, I am saying very few had any issue with him at all. I know that because I was in the army when he was there too.

As for being convinced he is the best person, fine. Actually out of the three right now, I agree. But like I said earlier, let a good independent run and my vote goes over.

"You can buy into that crap all you like but minorities are more sophisticated than you give them credit for" No, you leave minorities out of this, you can use blacks in this conversation but leave the rest of us out. You can buy into the black and brown alliance all you want but most of it is a myth! And, this we find yet another issue. Blacks feel that what is ok for them, the rest of us minorities will be happy. No, and this is a problem you really have. You don't go doing everyone's thinking, we can all think by ourselves. You still have time before it really spills over..

"if there was a choice between Jessy or any other current black leader the choice would still easily be Obama." You mean running for president? Anyone was better than Jessy or Al. That doesn't even need to come up. Moot of the mootest that could ever be. However, look at the libertarian party a bit more. Look at http://www.nbra.info/ I found a few interesting things and if you let down your learned or what you allowed sold into you, you would see a few interesting things yourself. I am willing to wager.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Skip,

If he gets the nod, obama has a long uphill battle awaiting him in trying to get any hillary supporter to vote for him. To do so would be admitting that hillary's message was complete bullsh!t. Given how intense her supporters are and the way the DNC treated them I don't expect to see too many of them casting their ballot for him.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

super d:

"There is considerable enthusiasm on the conservative side about Louisiana's new Republican governor, Bobby Jindal. He isn't "white."" Yeah, but like my mother has been called walking down the street before anyone really knew what she was - he too would be called a sell-out!

But, Bobby is cool. and you are right, he ain't white. But, is he not non-white enough?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Given how intense her supporters are and the way the DNC treated them"

Come to think of it RR, that is a valid point. Obama did basically steal her show!! But let's all be thankful for that!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Romeo - "Don't look for Americans to elect a national security threat like obama."

LOL! How can you say that with a straight face when your mate Bush has spent the last 8 years making enemies, some of them reputedly nuclear armed?

Obama a "security threat"??? To who?

Republicans, I'd guess.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Obama a "security threat"??? To who?"

More like a sanity threat to certain people teetering on the edge.

The froth-mouthed extremists don't care their geriatric candidate doesn't have a chance - heh, they just have to slime Obama to stave of the hated Reality.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow, I knew the Republicans would get desparate around this time when they realize everything they voted for, dreamed of and supported is evaporating, but I'm stunned at how delusional some of them are getting.

Calling Obama a "security threat" after 8 years of the bUsH Cult ...there's got to be an award for that, I just can't think of what it would be called.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Madverts - "heh, they just have to slime Obama to stave of the hated Reality."

Most people would call it a death rattle.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Using terms like "geriatric candidate" to show disrespect for older people is typical of a global obama supporter.

Thank goodness such nasty, hateful people aren't allowed to vote in our elections.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

RR, you are a wit by half. You talk with a false formality that underlies and underlines your cynicism. You and your ilk exaggerate perceived faults in Obama as a fig to hide the idea that you really do not want a person of color in the Oval Office.

Personally, I do not know if Obama can do what he wants and needs to do as a president. But after 8 years of Bush I cannot seem to trust what a conservative says. Bush's legacy of dividing what he set out to unify, I guess.

I worry more about the quality of democracy in America than by any individual. Thus far, I cannot say I have been reassured by much on either side - particularly on the right.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Romeo - "Using terms like "geriatric candidate" to show disrespect for older people is typical of a global obama supporter."

The "Global Obama Supporter." Is this a brand new twist of "Global Liberal"?

"Thank goodness such nasty, hateful people aren't allowed to vote in our elections."

Oh, but they are and they will be - voting for Sen. McCain.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

buddha4brains - "- particularly on the right."

Sorry, correct representation is: on tHe rIgHT.

Thanks :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You and your ilk exaggerate perceived faults in Obama as a fig to hide the idea that you really do not want a person of color in the Oval Office.

Actually, you should be asking the U.S. liberals why the empty suit can't even sew up the nomination within his own party; why half of his own party does not believe he can win in November.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Clinton has tried the dirty tactic of dragging Obama's name through the mud, plus she has very selfishly hung around in this race despite knowing she has no chance of winning and knowing that she has damaged the Democrats and Obama's chances against McCain. If I were Obama I would rubbish Hilary Clinton's name as soon as he wins this thing.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No offense, but can someone here actually tell me what Obama actually brings to the table to be President?

He makes nice speeches mainly about 'Change' but what change is he talking about? I'd like to know what the guy really stands for, character does matter and so far I see him as big Government activist with a resume as big as a postage stamp for the top job hoping I buy off on 'change'.

I need better from this guy before I can consider him worthy of my vote.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Using terms like "geriatric candidate" to show disrespect for older people is typical of a global obama supporter."

72, even if sprightly, is still geriatric. It's not an insult you know. But let's face it, the GOP are the masters at political planning in the US - they're just tossing an expendible, aged member to the wolves in light of them have poor chances of winning anything after the 8 year Bush Co train-wreck.

Froth away...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I have personally heard Hillary Clinton tell individuals her security detail to "Shut up you, and xxxk you, just do your job!" and dismiss, demean and mistreat them is an inhumane way, time and time again. And all they did was say "Good morning, Ma'am!" I REALLY hope this Bxxxh doesn't get elected. The whole country would be living on Midol! Extra strength!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And most of her detail is composed of people of color. Need I say more?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"If I were Obama I would rubbish Hilary Clinton's name as soon as he wins this thing."

Shouln't he take her on as VP running candidate to win back the Clinton votes that might go to McCain? Either way, after the way they've been bitching about each other, that would be one hell of an about-face.

But Senator Obama is right - if the party ever becomes unified, squashing the GOP shouldn't be difficult this time 'round and focusing on beating McCain is the thing to do right now.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She has very selfishly hung around in this race despite knowing she has no chance of winning

Really? Then consider this:

Of the 29 primaries since New Hampshire from which delegates have been allocated, obama has won 15. But in doing so, he got a majority of the white votes in just five of the 29 contests. And while winning three of the eight primaries held since March 4, Obama won a majority of the white vote in only two — Oregon and Vermont.

That means obama won the white person vote in only eight out of 37 states.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sailwind I think you said pretty much exactly what I was thinking. This isn't about old vs. young, black vs. white. This about the fact that we still don't really know anything about Obama. He hasn't outlined much in the way of policy it's just a call for "change" whatever form that takes. I get the sneaking suspicion that this was all engineered within the DNC as this guy came from nowhere to beat Clinton who was the presumptive nominee as soon as she declared. For what it's worth he's going to have to have a hard workable outline of where he stands and what he plans to do before I will give him my vote.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Shouln't (sp) he take her on as VP running candidate to win back the Clinton votes that might go to McCain?

Nah. Her only hope for ever moving back into the White House is if Mr. McCain wins. He has already hinted he'd only serve one term. She could then run in '12 as the dem's "I told you so" candidate. Which is probably why she's still in this race.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

ramen,

"That means obama won the white person vote in only eight out of 37 states."

Weeks ago you were braying that Senator Obama wouldn't have a chance because he would "never" have enough super delegates...

Get ready for President Obama.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"He has already hinted he'd only serve one term."

Heh, talk about admitting defeat early on. Then again, if I was to partake in your fantasy of McCain winning, he'd be in his late seventies - definitely time to be in an exclusive retirement home telling 'nam stories....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

verts,

This one isn't over yet. The SuperD's are going to have to look really hard at those figures; plus, hillary bagged nearly all the delegate-rich states (obama only took his home state, Ill.).

Then again, the democrats are masters at playing defense.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

ramen,

"Then again, the democrats are masters at playing defense."

To be quite honest with you, over the last 8 years I feel they've been masters at nothing. How they failed to defeat Bush in '04 is an out-right mystery to me.

This election should have been a cake-walk, not a battle between to candidates from the same damned party!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

verts,

We agree on that point. '04 was a different animal. But, you and I have already been down that road.

This time around, yes, the dems should have had an easier time to move into the White House. But the bickering that's been going on is pulling that party apart.

Will Rogers said it best: "I belong to no organized party. I'm a Democrat."

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

ramen,

"But the bickering that's been going on is pulling that party apart."

True, but I imagine they'll pull it together to beat McCain. Isn't a week in Washington like 10 years or something....?

This will be forgotten once the dems finally choose a bloody candidate. But in all fairness, their delegate system is ridiculous and has definitely hurt them here.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

RomeoRamenII,

The US is hardly right of center. Chile during the Nixon years was right of center. Iran is right of center.

The only way that the US is even remotely right of center is in reference to its own center--a center which is skewed to the left. All of the current candidates are centrists.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"I imagine they'll pull it together to beat McCain"

I imagine they won't.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

... their delegate system is ridiculous and has definitely hurt them here

Indeed it has. It should be a winner-take-all by popular vote system. But the democrats based it on a form of proportional representation to calculate how many delegates a candidate gets.

Still, I don't understand how obama, who voluntarily withdrew his name from consideration in Michigan, still wound up getting 59 delegates from that state this past weekend.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ramen,

Would you support a winner-take-all by popular vote system for the GE?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Madverts - You're right. I'm secretly ( well, not secretly any more! ) rooting for Obama because I want my country to disarm in the hope that all the terrorists we created will have mercy on us.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"winner-take-all by popular vote system"

What! And ditch our beloved Electoral College system which saved us from Al Gore? Never!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"rooting for Obama because I want my country to disarm in the hope that all the terrorists we created will have mercy on us."

I don't think Obama, when elected, intends to disarm the US. He is simply suggesting a different approach to the so-called war on terror, because as we know, the current aproach has made matters infinitely worse.

Another reason to support the guy!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

verts,

The electoral college method does allow less populated states from being overrun by the more populated ones.

Popular vote is a bit trickier because of absentee ballot and voter fraud issues. That written, I would advocate that a candidate pull in at least 51 persent of the popular in order to be declared the winner. Under my system however, bill clinton would have never been elected (or re-elected) president since he never received more than 50 percent in either '92 or 96.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

verts,

But obama's Chamberlin approach of talking to Muslim leaders who only understand the working end of an AK-47 or a bomb is not the answer.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ramen,

"But obama's Chamberlin approach of talking to Muslim leaders who only understand the working end of an AK-47 or a bomb is not the answer."

Well, the current approach has failed too. It's even exsaperated the situation as far as I can see.

Senator Obama isn't suggesting appeasment - he's simply talked about opening dialogue, notably with the Iranaians - which seems like a sensible course of action.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

According to an AP bulletin I just heard on the radio, Obama now has passed the magic number.

Dan, absurd! He's been 18 for years now. Oh...the other magic number.

Red with rage and green with envy don't count.

Suddenly, the "popular vote" does not mean anything any more. Strange how opinions change :-)
