Sure it was good to see US,Russia reducing her nuclear stockpile!But never involving the third party!

I see no statement anywhere in this article, nor elsewhere, that says the US and world seeks to eliminate all nuclear weapons by the end of his second term, which he's definitely going to get . The article and Obama do state, however, work towards the ultimate goal of 'nuclear zero' need to get underway, and actual action needs to be taken instead of just the wishful talk, or outright denial in bush's case, if it is ever to be achieved. I don't think we'll see complete nuclear disarmament in our time, short of some accident leading to people expediting the process, but there's no reason why it can't be started now, and why the countries in question can't agree on a framework of what to do and when. So long as they start ACTING on it, I see this as nothing but a positive step.

Obama was just buying time to endure hard times.There were a large crowds of warmongers inside the pentagon! America likes going out to challenge other countries to stirup troubles after feeding their belly!

Pakistan isn't going to give up theirs and neither will some other countries like Israel and China, but it's a start at reducing nukes. They won't be eliminated in my lifetime, even if I live to be 100. But, I'm all for reductions and monitoring like a hawk. < :-)

The great messiah wants to save the world and not offering anything new. This great effort has been underway for over 20 years and will continue at the same pace regardless of Obama's empty words.

The last 8 years there was no effort to limit nukes, except in Iraq, Iran and after 5 years of stalling in North Korea. < :-)

Nice words but the implementation is going to be problematic. Makes for nice press relations. Are we going to get all kissey face with the French now? That's a kind of thankless task too.

Argue all you like, nuclear weapons exist & that means they are not going away, whatever the new saviour says.

No I do not want them to exist, no sane person does, but they do & once the genie was out of the bottle there was never going to be a way to get it back in. And that is just something that we are going to have to live with, & yes, one day maybe even die with.

Nuclear weapons have become a kind of suicidal weapons for mankind... fast ,instead of superior ones as they once were; so elimination of them can be good idea. But base on human aggressive history so far, this process can be very looong ( 100years plus maybe?) if it ever happens at all. Then we will face the question of "useful" nuclear weapons, like destroying asteroids or war against aliens..etc in the future?

The US will never give up its nukes, since it has nothing else to fall back on.

Sarge you are correct, it is almost impossible to destroy all our nukes and it would be a bit silly. President Obama is playing the part of peace maker and it is a smart move.

What we will do is dispose of old outdated weapons and put in place newer better ones. In my book it is a win win situation.
