we extend a hand and get a fist in return

Americans sat and watched how he shut out the republicans constantly. His favorite line (behind "Let me be clear about this") is you have any suggestions I will be glad to meet with you. that never happened. Obama only met with the republicans because the party he "leads" no longer has the super majority. Had the dems kept it, there would still be closed door meetings with bribes on the menu for lunch.

“We still have to lead,”

and the sheeple will follow...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Based on his proposed budget, I would say he is leading the wrong way.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A year into his presidency and Obama finally works out that his job is about leadership?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

" I promise you the answer is not to do nothing,”

Another historical, unprecedented, never experienced before, unimaginable, incredible, fantastic, out of this planet promise?

From the stupidest US president ever (Bush) now we got the cleverest egg?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bah. The idea of Obama leading anything is starting to become laughable. The claim that he wants a bipartisan health bill is a con job. Obama is just the front man for the DNC. There is nothing there that a cardboard captain kirk couldn't provide.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"his own skittish party"

That's the Democratic Party all right.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If President Obama - with large majorities in both houses of Congress - is unable to accomplish much of anything other than huge deficits during his first year in office then he and his party are doomed to fail in their ideological crusade to make America into the newest member of the EU.

Now that they have inexplicably lost the seat of the uber-Liberal Sen. Kennedy and are on an electoral losing streak since the 2008 general election, the Democrats are now in a state of confusion. With this year being an election year and given that the Dems are scared of the avalanche that is coming this Fall, Obama won't be able to lead his party out of a wet paper bag.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am so proud of the American republican. It's all about party, it has nothing to do with country. Obama accepted the republicans suggestions on sitting down and talking some of this stuff out and then they pulled their offer back. If it didn't go well the republicans could always give the dirty details, but instead of trying they turn tail. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

tell voters honestly that some problems will take a long time to solve

Heh, democrats did that back in August at the town hall meetings. Guess what? The people said they don't want what they are pushing. They don't want the Barack Hussein Obama Memorial Health Care scam nor cap and trade.

Instead of telling voters, the dems should try listening to voters instead.

"republican... It's all anout party, it has nothing to do with country."

Country First.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Beside spending trillions for a few ObamaJobs is there anything Obama has actually done? Well besides the takeover of Haiti.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Republicans.

Country Last.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

why do we need our elected officials to be part of a party? How about once they are seated, all businesses and party affiliation must be removed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama talks a lot while giving very little in the way of substantive guidance to the Democrats. In fact, Obama talks a lot. Period.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trying to lead the democrats is like trying to herd cats...The US economy is still tanking fast, and Obama hasn't got the leadership to be able to resolve this issue...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What a debate.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Even if you took away party affiliation after elections, you'd still have Mitch McConnell gathering his flock to block legislation that Obama wants to help the country. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sharky1 we saw how the last administration handled the economy. They did such a fantastic job. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And what the hell does Obama have against Las Vegas? If I were a Nevadan I'd be pretty pissed at his repeated mentions of the state's number one income source. Since when is he anti-gaming/gambling?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"And what the hell does Obama have against Las Vegas?"

Maybe he lost some money there once, who knows?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Since when should people that are suffering from the economy run to Las Vegas? It's like being broke and taking a vacation and loosing lots of more money you don't have.

I'm not sure he anti-Vegas as he is pro-common sense. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Since when should people that are suffering from the economy run to Las Vegas? It's like being broke and taking a vacation and loosing lots of more money you don't have.

Kinda like Obama's budget?

We would be better off if this Obama was actually vetted by the press before he was elected. You know vetted like Palin was by em and she was only number two for the job.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nothing like Obama's budget. More like what bush left Obama, apparently you don't remember what bush left this country. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

By the way sailwind, if you were having trouble feeding your family and paying your mortgage, do you advocate going to Vegas? < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"mall business owners don't believe Obama. They aren't hiring."

Palin was incapable of describing even the post she was hoping to secure for pete's sake. Her gaffes were up there on a Bush-esque scale of idiocy. Obama, whether you like his policies or not, is an intelligent, eduacted human being.

With that said, my apoligies for interupting the "my party is better than your party" daily shriek-fest. Please continue....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Whoops! The quote should have been "You know vetted like Palin was by em and she was only number two for the job."

Sorry, sailwind.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nothing like Obama's budget. More like what bush left Obama, apparently you don't remember what bush left this country" We know what Bush left the country, Obama asked for the job, and got it. He said he would fix the country, knowing full well that he's got four years to do so. His people have been in the mix that helped GWB create the mess mind you.. Do a bit of research on how many were forced to provide home loans and made credit easier to obtain in 1999 (if you were an adult at that time at least)

Quit the excuses and get the job done or at least make it look like you are and then your types will have a leg to stand on. Had this been any normal company and continually giving the same excuses, you'd be fired by now. But with the speaking gift, perhaps I'd put you in charge of customer service.

And no aday, forcing elected officials to depart their party once they are elected would not leave Mitch Mcwhatever his name... I'm talking long term. Take a look at the recent bully or even bribing with the latest health care debate where Nebraska and Louisiana that took place. Dems who were against this because their constituents were against it were forced to sign on and commit political suicide. I'll find a repub reason later on.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Palin was incapable of describing even the post she was hoping to secure"

Sure, just make up stuff and post it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skipthesomg, Yes Obama ask for the job. When bush had the job and did all his shenanigans that brought us to the edge of economical collapse, you republicans cheered his actions. Even when the market collapsed you're real good about blaming Obama for not fixing in one year what bush took eight years to do.

I'm watching the republicans who helped cause this calamity point at Obama as the reason we're not back in the black when they spent $6Trillion.

Yes you'd still have the republicans ganging together. You're belief that they would is great posting, but BS. Remember the old adage, "Birds of a feather flock together".

And the banks were forced to convince the buyers to lie about their income. Loan agencies and banks are required to be gathered and proven. But when their paper work says they make $30K, but the loaners put down $50K. When the buyers convinced that the simple ARM financing will be their "God send".

Then these same shysters are getting rich hand over fist foreclosing on the same loans they made. < :-)

sarge,

"[T]hey're in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom." --Sarah Palin, getting the vice president's constitutional role wrong after being asked by a third grader what the vice president does, interview with NBC affiliate KUSA in Colorado, Oct. 21, 2008

Wrong again 'lil buddy. Heh, it's becoming a wierd kinda art form. Perhaps your talents lie elsewhere.....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ummm..Madverts,

Palin was the Vice-Presidential candidate, kinda like Biden and how he is sooo influential on Obama, you know the actual President now.

But what the hey, if you think we would have elected McCain and Palin would have the influence to change him knock yourself out.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

By the way sailwind, if you were having trouble feeding your family and paying your mortgage, do you advocate going to Vegas? < :-)

The last thing people in that position would ever think about was going to Vegas......Unless they they could count on Government bail-out afterwards courtesy of you adaydream the tax-payer or borrowed from your future kiddies.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

you republicans cheered his actions. Even when the market collapsed you're real good about blaming Obama for not fixing in one year what bush took eight years to do." I voted for Gore. I didn't vote the second time around. So stop with the kid crap.

I'm watching the republicans who helped cause this calamity point at Obama as the reason we're not back in the black when they spent $6Trillion." Funny, I could have sworn you said you were a financial consultant and over 35...

And the banks were forced to convince the buyers to lie about their income." There you go.... and what did that happen? You are aware that I was once a first time buyer and you now know why I jumped from one industry to another.... in 1998

But when their paper work says they make $30K, but the loaners put down $50K. " Really? You are either lying or not remembering things clearly. Those loan houses that so called consulted us "first time buyers".... hmmmm. Now you know why I gave to certain NPO's related to the current admin.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

madverts,

"Wrong again 'lil buddy"

About what? And I'm not your buddy.

"We’ve got to finish the job on health care. We’ve got to finish the job on financial regulatory reform. We’ve got to finish the job, even though it’s hard.”

Obama wants to ensure democrats lose control of congress this upcoming November, and ensure that he is a one term president. He seems to be in favor of the scorched earth strategy: Do as much damage as possible just to spit on the voters and harm the nation since people don't agree with him or his agenda.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skipthesong,

Let's start with the initiator of bad loans now reaping the rewards of their bad loans.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/business/04penny.html

Then...

One of the most common ways in which mortgage advisors have been helping their clients to secure loans is by advising them to exaggerate their income.

http://www.streetdirectory.com/travel_guide/195774/mortgages/warning_for_bad_credit_mortgage_lending.html

You may have voted for Gore, but you've been a bush supporter for years. I've been debating you for a long time.

bush sure showed us how to balance a budget didn't he. bush sure showed us how to keep the government in the black.

You know as well as I do that the government doesn't budget like we do at home. If they did bush would have financed the wars from within our budget. he didn't. he would have paid for the Rx program. he didn't. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama has regressed back to his community organizer mode. The guy's more comfortable with campaigning than "leading".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sarge,

"(Wrong) About what?"

Palin getting the vice president's constitutional role wrong after being asked by a third grader what the vice president does - whilst she was applying for the position.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble on how comicaly inept the woman is, but I did tell you counteless times to turn the sound UP.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Palin was the Vice-Presidential candidate, kinda like Biden and how he is sooo influential on Obama, you know the actual President now."

Did you have a point?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

skipthesong, I reread it. I'm not digging anything. Tell me where I'm digging my own grave.

You can call yourself anything you like, but when you support bush policies, when you defended his actions. You're a bush boy. I didn't write your posts. I didn't come up with posts that defended the republican policies that put this country into the financial situation we're in. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

aday,

It is possible to agree with something Bush said or did without being a supporter you know.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Madverts I can agree with that. But when someone agreed with and defended bush's actions on almost everything that we debated then it suspiciously makes you appear to be a bush supporter.

Maybe he really didn't mean to support bush so avidly. I don't know. Only skipthesong can say. But it sure appeared to me that we never agreed with bush's actions. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Did you have a point?

Yes, the point is, "I didn't get my way and I'm PO'd. Watch my tantrum. Are you watching!?! PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEE! I'M ANGWY!!!"

That's the point.

It's one of the reasons I don't come around these parts of the internet like I used to.

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"It's one of the reasons I don't come around these parts of the internet like I used to."

Amen to that. The mod's finger is itchier than Joh Wayne's and the left and rightwing radicals seem to do nothing other than scream at each about how much better their party is.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I got a feeling that if he thinks he can't win reelection, he won't run. He got really lucky to win, I don't even think he expected to win. He's got real think skin and very little experience and I think as the most junior senator, he as president is uncomfortable with speaking to all the older men in congress like he is lecturing them.

If he doesn't run again, he will try to come across as a guy who never planned to run again. Like he was wanting to go in, do the job and get back into the private sector and then maybe come up with an idea that presidents should just have one term so they wouldn't be running for reelection during the first term. He could make himself look enlightened and above it all. In reality the decision would be that he didn't think he could win or he is just too wore out and stressed over the job.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'd be happy as a lark if we could see the congress actually working together. I was torqued that the health care process wasn't shown on C-Span. I'm not sure if it was Reed's or Pelosi's folks who stopped that. Who ever made that decision really hurt the process. Disappointment all around.

I hope to see the health care bill to get started again. I hope they're all willing to talk. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Taka,

Your statement below describes a Massachusetts voter to a Tee, Let's ignore them also and the message they really sent shall we? But I don't think it so much as anger but telling Obama and the Democrats change the course and Govern from the center or tike a hike.

Yes, the point is, "I didn't get my way and I'm PO'd. Watch my tantrum. Are you watching!?! PAY ATTENTION TO MEEEE! I'M ANGWY!!!"

That's the point.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

We still have to lead,” Obama told Democratic senators in a pep talk

Heh, the dems must have been cringing because they were forced to sit and listen to a guy who everytime he enters a room he's the least experienced and the least qualified person in the room.

Las Vegas is not some fictional Shangri La to be referred to to make a point. It's a critical part of Nevada's economy and a lot of people who live and work there rely on tourism, conventions, etc. for their livelihood. Obama equating visiting Las Vegas with financial irresponsibility has directly and significantly affected Las Vegas' and Nevada's economies. Las Vegas has already lost millions of dollars in revenue from decreased tourism and cancelled business conventions thanks to the President's repeated negative metions of Las Vegas. What he said was inappropriate and insensitive. As eloquent as he supposedly is, he should be able to make his point (which doesn't direcly have anything to do with Las Vegas) without directly negatively impacting the welfare of some of his constituents. Why pick on Vegas? More Americans waste far far more of their hard earned money on lotteries and other games found in most states (including Illinois) than those who travel to Vegas to gamble.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

adaydream

To be fair, in his next such speach the President should caution people from traveling to Illinois and taking part in that state's healthy lottery, gambling, and gaming scene.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

USNinJapan2, I really understand what you're saying. I do. I know that Las Vegas depends on travel, tourists and all the money it generates. Lots of people need the work.

I get that.

I also get that people are losing their homes, hand over fist. People are without jobs and living on credit cards.

Just like the country, I think he was just reminding people that they have to live with in their means.

Like I said earlier...

I'm not sure he anti-Vegas as he is pro-common sense. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

adaydream

Understood, but one last dig. Don't know if you saw footage of the speech but Obama was unusually not using a teleprompter and was speaking off the cuff. Mis-comments like the ones about Las Vegas are evidently to be expected when he speaks "off book". Maybe he does have something in common with his VP after all...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cripes, I'm beginning to think Hillary would have been a better president than this One.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think he was just reminding people that they have to live with in their means.

Agreed. People should not spend $250,000 (a large portion of it taxpayer money) on a date night in NYC.

High on power and in love with himself. The man just don't get it, yet.

In 2007 the US voters gave the democrats their checkbooks, in 2008 they gave Bambi the pen. Facts are that the 2007 deficit was $160B, 2008 it was $458B, 2009 it was $1.4T. The proposed budget now stands at $1.6T with more to come. If only those darned Republicans would STOP being such damned obstructionists!

Announced today:

UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPPED TO 9.7%.

I can't believe that this is good news, but after last month, it's great.

Continue to lead Obama. < :-)

You really think that Obama's comments, in and of themselves, have caused the decline of revenue in Vegas? Get serious, boy! Never have I seen a more whiny, limp-wristed psuedo-stab at our good President. Vegas is sinking because of bush's ruination of the American economy, as you well know and can't argue down. Grow a pair and suck it up, "sailor".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Announced today: UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPPED TO 9.7%. ... Continue to lead Obama. < :-)

This figure includes the temp census workers as full time employed people. Obama's Labor Department is cooking the books. Heh, some leadership.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

At least they got something. Even at $9.00 an hour that's more then they were getting last month. I know they aren't permanent jobs. I hope they get hired at something else at the end of this few months. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Its $15 an hour for the census jobs.

And the bush great recession lingers on and on. Somehow the republicans forget that it was there dimwit president who let things spiral out of control until it was too late. Republicans are good for two things, useless wars that fail and getting the country into a depression.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Since I'm retired I tried to get one of these jobs. I would have had to pay back my buy-out just to get one of them. I didn't even get to take the test. Weeded me out the first 5 minutes. $15.00 an hour would be nice to add to the empty wallet.

I hope these jobs last for several months, maybe a year for some hopefully. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And the Bush great recession lingers on and on

Though it really should not matter to canadians like you, zee, but the democrat-controlled Congress is continually extending unemployment benefits.

The democrats took control of the Congress in 2007 and America's been going downhill ever since.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah I know RomeoRamenII. Obama just isn't fixing things fast enough I guess. The drop like a lead weight dive on the economy during the bush administration has been a real tough to slow down.

Continue to lead Obama. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The democrats took control of the Congress in 2007

Another "gift," made possible by George W. Bush, that just keeps on giving.

The democrats took control of the Congress in 2007 and America's been going downhill ever since.

No, we're bouncing back; Obama WON the election, so now we're in good hands and the republican ruination is now being repaired. You can relax, sweetheart; the Americans won the 2008 election, remember?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama just isn't fixing things fast enough I guess.

Remember when Obama signed Porkulus Maximus -- meaning, he officially took control of the U.S. economy on that day -- he promised it would keep unemployment at 8 percent.

So, how's the hopey/changey thing workin' for ya?

$15.00 an hour would be nice to add to the empty wallet.

hee hee.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So, how's the hopey/changey thing workin' for ya?

Well, considering how many righty-tighties here swore President Obama would cut military spending and how I'd be on welfare by now, I'd say things are looking good. Did I tell you I'm up for promotion, by the way?

http://www.japantoday.com/category/world/view/military-spending-unaffected-by-recession

How's the gloom and doom nonsense workin' for ya? Hee hee.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You can relax, sweetheart; the Americans won the 2008 election, remember?

Heh, in case you haven't noticed, in last three elections the democrats got their ass handed to them because of Obama and his failed policies.

Son, it must really, really suck to be an Obamabat these days.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Son, it must really, really suck to be an Obamabat these days.

When I stop and consider what it must feel like to troll for Republicans, I count it fortunate that Democrats were given this wake-up call so soon before the elections this fall.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

RomeoRamenII

$15.00 an hour would be nice to add to the empty wallet.

hee hee.

You seem to get a chuckle at $15.00. The average hourly pay for Americans across the US isn't that much better for regular professional jobs. People who have jobs are just happy to have them, whether it be $7.50 or 15.00. < :-)

http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t19.htm

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Son, it must really, really suck to be an Obamabat these days.

Let's see... Democrats are still in control of the White House, still in control of Congress, still supporting the military, still overwhelming supported BY the US military, laughing our asses off at how the "Tea Party" is sucking away Republican votes, credited for vastly improved relations with the rest of the world, reducing unemployment, championing much needed health care reform (which is still supported by the vast majority of Americans), and yawning at Playgirl Brown's election...

...Sorry - who did you say you were, again? xD

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"I count it fortunate that Democrats were given this wake-up call"

Do you think the Democrats will actually reconsider their misguided policies?

"Democrats...still overwhelmingly supported BY the US military"

Got a link for that? Didn't think so. Dream on.

"yawning at Playgirl Brown's election"

Total denial in play here. Heck, even Obama isn't yawning. "Playgirl"? As Captain Jack Sparrow would say "Sticks and stones, Love."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Do you think the Democrats will actually reconsider their misguided policies?

Why should we? Our policies aren't misguided.

Got a link for that? Didn't think so. Dream on.

Links provided on previous threads, no dreaming necessary. At least you got the first two words of that second sentence right.

Total denial in play here. Heck, even Obama isn't yawning.

The "Massachusetts Message" is for both Americans and repubs, Sargie; the message to repubs is to stop whining about how they "can't do anything because the Democrats are in power, wah, wah, wah". They've been given back a modicum of power, but just a bit - can't trust the teenager with the keys to the Mercedes, ya know.

"Playgirl"? As Captain Jack Sparrow would say "Sticks and stones, Love."

Oh, that's right, it wasn't Playgirl - it was Cosmo that Brown posed nude for. But then, what difference does it make? If the foo shits...

Oh Sarge, Sarge, Sarge, will you ever learn? You might as well; you certainly have nothing at all to teach anyone.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Our policies aren't misguided"

The voters think otherwise.

"the message to the repubs is to stop whining"

Ha ha ha! Nice spin!

"can't trust the teenager with the keys to the Mercedes, ya know"

Heck, we're now trusting the least qualified and experienced president in our history with the keys to our nuclear arsenal and to steer us to a 9.7% unemployment rate.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge

The voters think otherwise.

That's why Obama is in office. Not McCain. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ha ha ha! Nice spin!

Ha ha ha! You can't prove me wrong!

least qualified and experienced president in our history

No no no, Sargie; bush is gone, praise Jesus! We have a good President now; do try to keep up, will you?

You really think that Obama's comments, in and of themselves, have caused the decline of revenue in Vegas? Get serious, boy!

Yes, significantly. You may not think anything of Obama's anti-Vegas comments but on that Nevadan politicians from both sides of the aisle disagree with you. Even Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Harry Reid, the Democratic Senate majority leader and one of Obama's closest allies, issued a statement headlined "Reid to Obama: 'Lay off Las Vegas,"' and was unusually blunt in his reaction. "The President needs to lay off Las Vegas and stop making it the poster child for where people shouldn't be spending their money," Reid said.
