“There are still areas of significant concern in terms of freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, accountability with respect to government,” he said.

Hanoi or Hiroshima, it is same according to global media experts.

I think Americans have to get over the Vietnam war. We lost it fair and square. On the other hand I suspect that President Obama's main purpose was not so much reconciliation but to drum up business for US arms manufacturers and other merchants of death.

Vietnam knows how empty Obama's words are, and as always, they have a hollow ring.

The US President bows to communist dictators who oppress their people and harbor remains of US servicemen. He is a friend of Iran and Cuba and doesn't care that neither country has a free press, an independent judiciary and imprisons political opponents.

Ironic. Obama prods he rights of public schools in their perspective states. By letting the trannies use whichever restroom they can associate with and threatening schools by stripping federal funding who are not in compliance.

Perhaps obama should lateral-over into Vietnam Politics.

Vietnam is a wonderful place and the people are tops. One on one, I enjoyed them more than in many places I have been throughout the world. Even the security personnel are more apt to roll their eyes at an infraction than to point a gun at you.

Having said that, there are pretty regular crackdowns conducted by the overlords in Hanoi, and they really ought to knock it off and let the country move forward. Obama is spot on in doing what he did. Old people want to keep all these animosities and focus on the past. It is just plain stupid. Let's make a better world so that young people can just grow and be happy.

He is speaking truth to power. Human rights in Vietnam can and should be improved quickly and permanently.

U.S. also support tyrannies in Middle East and north Africa

Obama having an open townhall forum again with the locals. Strange other world leaders don't do that with the locals more often and see how they answer open questions

Not ironic at all. Both are measures to protect the people of the respective countries.
