Here we go again....again....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama is doing such a fine job for America, huh. People who voted for him should be picked to be the first to suffer anything related to cuts in funds. Where are the impeachment paper for him, congress had started to look at his non-constitutional authority. Where is the follow-up to get rid of him."

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Let the spending begin.......again, part 2

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

"Boehner said in a statement that he opposed increased revenue, saying: “...Americans do not support sacrificing real spending cuts for more tax hikes."

Since when has Boehner EVER known what Americans think or want?

If he does, he's living in the same fantasy world as the  conservatives out there who think that cutting spending without increasing income (aka "raising taxes") is going to fix the economy.

Anyone know if Boehner has any background in economics or is he just a lifetime bureaucrat?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It's super funny - TP/conservatives used to rail against "Big Government" - until Sandy smacked them up the butt.

Now, they're railing against bloated spending.

Watch them quickly change their tunes when their own benefits and tax deductions get the chop.

Conservatives are as predictable as they are illogical. :-)

2 ( +3 / -1 )

“We can’t cut our way to prosperity.”

Obama and his ilk do, however, believe that the nation can spend its way to prosperity.

Real, immediate spending cuts are unmistakably necessary, not reductions of future increases. Realistically, neither republicans nor democrats are willing to do what's actually necessary because that would upset their constituents who come to the trough to feed on the promised pork.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The nearly always wrong Congressional Budget Office has just put out a report predicting that the US government will run a deficit for the next fiscal year of less than $1 trillion for the first time under Obama. The likely low-balled $850 billion single year US budget deficit would still be twice as much as any deficit under Bush over his full two terms as president. Didn't Bush's relatively small deficit figures prompt then candidate Obama to brand President Bush un-American? Obama's efforts must then qualify him for honorary Soviet citizenship.

The US is nearly four years into an economic recovery running average annual budget deficits of $1 trillion and President Obama still refuses to cut any spending. He only wants to raise taxes. Well, guess what BO, you can either negotiate with Republicans over cutting spending (and forget about raising any more taxes) or you can have the sequester that you insisted on in last years budget negotiations. After sticking your finger in the eye of Republicans over the end of the Bush-era taxes at the end of last year, and refusing to negotiate over raising the debt ceiling, I can guarantee you that Republicans will do every thing they can to make your life as uncomfortable as possible over the next few months. Enjoy it Mr. President, you actually earned it!

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Obama is not placing a time span or a dollar amount on the short-term plan. Officials said he will leave that to Congress.

This is "leadership".????????

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Sail, since when has Congress EVER exhibited any leadership since Obama came to power?

Constantly saying 'no' isn't leadership - it's abdication of responsibility to the people.

But I guess you're OK with that.. ..

1 ( +3 / -2 )

@sushi

"Boehner said in a statement that he opposed increased revenue, saying: “...Americans do not support sacrificing real spending cuts for more tax hikes."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/02/05/americans-are-spending-more-on-gasoline-than-they-have-in-three-decades/

Why is it that liberals never, ever understand that the if you want a vibrant economy to reach that you need GROWTH, pure and simple, without it, you will never get a solid economy.

Since when has Boehner EVER known what Americans think or want?

Since when has Obama ever listened to what the American people want or to people in his party or even trying to listen to his fellow Republicans. But Obama doesn't have that Reagan or Clinton flare.

If he does, he's living in the same fantasy world as the conservatives out there who think that cutting spending without increasing income (aka "raising taxes") is going to fix the economy.

Not a fantasy, so how is the economy now? Raising taxes is always, always a short-term solution. ALWAYS!

Anyone know if Boehner has any background in economics or is he just a lifetime bureaucrat? Neither does Obama as we can see. By the way, Black and Latino unemployment still high. Good times ahead!

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

@sushi

since when has Congress EVER exhibited any leadership since Obama came to power?

congress has a 15% approval, both parties are at fault!

Constantly saying 'no' isn't leadership - it's abdication of responsibility to the people.

Why would I say, "yes" to a president with radical agendas and getting worse by the day. If Republicans would agree with this President on everything, they cease to be Republicans, NOW that would be the ultimate abdication, not to mention betrayal of their parties constituents.

But I guess you're OK with that.. ..

I sure am!

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Sail - "Why would I say, "yes" to a president with radical agendas and getting worse by the day?"

Perhaps because the majority of Americans have rejected failed conservative/GOP ideology in 2 straight elections.

Sorry about that!

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Sorry, attributions mixed up.

Bass made the comment I re-posted above, not Sailwind.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@sushi

Perhaps because the majority of Americans have rejected failed conservative/GOP ideology in 2 straight elections.

So that means, the American people can't be wrong? Remember, they also voted for Carter as well.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Wolfpack: The likely low-balled $850 billion single year US budget deficit would still be twice as much as any deficit under Bush over his full two terms as president.

Sounds like AM radio to me. We both know there was a collapse in revenues when Obama took office. Trying to slide one by?

President Obama still refuses to cut any spending. He only wants to raise taxes.

Again, untrue. And again, I'm guessing you know that. If you want an absolute, then you can talk about Republican plans to cut spending only, something everyone understands won't be good enough.

Well, guess what BO, you can either negotiate with Republicans over cutting spending (and forget about raising any more taxes) or you can have the sequester that you insisted on in last years budget negotiations.

We all know people are blaming the Republicans more than anyone else. I know you want to drive the economy off the cliff since it's your way or destruction, but there are some Republicans who are starting to come around. Why do you think that is?

After sticking your finger in the eye of Republicans over the end of the Bush-era taxes at the end of last year

Not sure what that means.

and refusing to negotiate over raising the debt ceiling,

Why negotiate the raising of the debt ceiling? It's never been negotiated before. It only happened when Republicans wanted to extract concessions but didn't have the votes for them. Now my guess is that it will be a permanent fixture in government. Thanks for that.

I can guarantee you that Republicans will do every thing they can to make your life as uncomfortable as possible over the next few months. Enjoy it Mr. President, you actually earned it!

What you mean to say is that if Republicans don't get their way they will take the whole country down with them.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

bass4funk: Why is it that liberals never, ever understand that the if you want a vibrant economy to reach that you need GROWTH, pure and simple, without it, you will never get a solid economy.

Do you think the Republican plan of holding the economy hostage has anything to do with companies not hiring? Did you hear about the military planning to cut 46,000 jobs in case an agreement isn't passed? Do you think those people are about to go out and buy houses now?

bass4funk: Why would I say, "yes" to a president with radical agendas and getting worse by the day.

Again, more AM radio. A lot of buzzwords and nothing of substance.

they cease to be Republicans, NOW that would be the ultimate abdication, not to mention betrayal of their parties constituents.

Do that and you might have a chance of ever seeing the White House again. As for now, you've lost to a socialist, Muslim President with an 8% unemployment rate. But hold on to those constituents. You wouldn't be in this spot without them.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Bass - "If Republicans would agree with this President on everything, they cease to be Republicans, NOW that would be the ultimate abdication,"

It's taken you a while but I'm honestly glad you've finally come around to realizing this fact.

If the last 2 election drubbings have shown conservatives anything it is that changing attitudes in U.S. society are leaving conservative values in the dust.

To have any hope of winning future elections, conservatives are going to have to become more liberal.

We're already starting to see it happening - conservatives are making noises about granting citizenship to immigrants and being more open minded toward gay marriage and abortion.

The horse of societal attitudes has bolted and the GOP is still standing in the stable.

So yes, Republicans will have to cease to be Republicans, and that WILL be the ultimate abdication.

Good luck. Your liberal future is bumpy. :-)

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I'm no expert but I think Obama is trying to cut spending. He is trying to get us out of some very costly wars in the Middle East and reign in the bloated defense budget spending. These may not be the type of cuts that many conservatives want to see but it seems be a solid way to reduce government spending without cutting a lot programs that many Americans, conservative and liberal alike, depend on.

I also agree that there needs to be some serious growth in order to get the economy back on track, but not the kind of growth that allows CEO's take home million dollar bonuses while their workers get replaced by outsourcing and machines. We need funding for innovative entrepreneurs in fast growing industries like tech and green industries.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Democracy at work. People and politicians will never vote for or enact real spending cuts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Left vs Right quibble- dribble gobbledygook.

The Left's social giveaway programs have led to hand-out dependency financed by a combination of producers' taxes and debt-borrowing.

The Right's military/industrial/farm subsidy giveaway is their red-headed stepchild.

Both are cluelessly blaming the other. That explains the 15% congressional "approval" rate. Neither have anything remotely resembling a mandate, and in fact, the emperor has no clothes. The elephant in the room is about to burst.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

That explains the 15% congressional "approval" rate.

The same Congress that our President is going to........... "Officials said he will leave that to Congress." to work out the details of the spending cuts and taxes. The same Congress he's always yammering on as extremists and thwarting him. But now he could care less about the details and leave it to Congress to work it as this is just to much of a bother for him.

Good grief.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I say have a 5% cut on every single government program, regardless of what it is. I think the worst thing I see nowadays is fat people on welfare. Aren't they suppose to be poor? How the hell are they getting fat?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Sail - "But now he could care less about the details and leave it to Congress to work it as this is just to much of a bother for him."

If Congress actually does something, it would be a first.

KK - "I think the worst thing I see nowadays is fat people on welfare. Aren't they suppose to be poor? How the hell are they getting fat?"

Maccas?

Seriously, Americans should demand that all members of Congress be paid on a 100% commission basis.

Don't produce?

No pay.

Sorry!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

It'd be easier to get blood from a stone than trying to get this deadbeat GOP-controlled Congress to cooperate with the president on anything for the good of the people they pretend to represent.

And let's face it - under gwb, Republicans couldn't raise the debt ceiling fast enough.

17 times.

Plus they ratcheted up the debt to record levels at the time.

Now, both these things - which they created and did masterfully and without hesitation - are anethema.

What's up conservatives? Is your recent history just too embarrassing to re-live?

That would explain why Americans have kept you out of power now in 2 straight elections despite your president being a black Socialist Kenyan over-spending anti-Israel Muslim.

Or so you would be led to believe if you bother listening to the airhead rightwing media mouthpieces

3 ( +3 / -0 )

What's up conservatives? Is your recent history just too embarrassing to re-live?

United States elections, 2010

The Democratic Party suffered massive defeats in many national and state level elections, with many seats switching to Republican Party control. The Republican Party gained 63 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, recapturing the majority, and making it the largest seat change since 1948 and the largest for any midterm election since the 1938 midterm elections

House Republicans retain majority, defending gains from GOP wave in 2010

Republicans won enough crucial races Tuesday to retain control of the House of Representatives, beating back a strong Democratic challenge and allowing the GOP to keep pushing an agenda of fiscal austerity.

If Congress actually does something, it would be a first.

Then Obama's so called "plan" that you support is going to be total failure if your opinion is to be believed..

Obama is not placing a time span or a dollar amount on the short-term plan. Officials said he will leave that to Congress.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

@sushi

It's taken you a while but I'm honestly glad you've finally come around to realizing this fact.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but why would anyone conservative want to be absorbed into the arms of the Democratic Party or that the Republican Party would want to be like them is the biggest joke of the year, yea, I came around rather quickly to that realization.

If the last 2 election drubbings have shown conservatives anything it is that changing attitudes in U.S. society are leaving conservative values in the dust.

Says who, so you spoken to every single American? You can adapt to certain social issues without compromising your core principles.

To have any hope of winning future elections, conservatives are going to have to become more liberal.

No, just modify themselves, becoming liberals, that's not going to happen, and be like Chuck Hagel, NO thanks.

We're already starting to see it happening - conservatives are making noises about granting citizenship to immigrants and being more open minded toward gay marriage and abortion.

Most true conservatives never had a problem with those issues, they just want LEGAL immigration. Gay marriage and abortion are not the most important issues, but jobs, now you're talking some serious sense and you are talking about the Bible thumpers, don't generalize again, you try this every time, it's getting old, buddy.

The horse of societal attitudes has bolted and the GOP is still standing in the stable.

What?

So yes, Republicans will have to cease to be Republicans, and that WILL be the ultimate abdication.

I'm glad you still retain a great sense of political humor. We do need a bit of levity to take off some of this tension.

Good luck. Your liberal future is bumpy. :-)

Thanks, but I'll stick to my smooth conservative road.

I would tend to agree with you, bad thing is most liberals feel that they are not part of the problem, that they are the solution. The Republicans are not Saints and there are a lot of areas where they need improvement, I see it, but most Liberals have this Godly like attitude that as long as this president is in power that Americas problems will be resolved within the next 4 years and we all know, that is a lie.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Big problem is, if there's ever a compromise deal, Obama could probably get his party to go along with him even if begrudgingly, but Boehner would have a harder time getting some sections of his party to go with him.

Bass - "I have no idea what you are talking about, but why would anyone conservative want to be absorbed into the arms of the Democratic Party or that the Republican Party would want to be like them is the biggest joke of the year, yea, I came around rather quickly to that realization."

Do you actually think you're going to have the luxury of that choice in 4 years time?

Really? That's funny.

Bass - "You can adapt to certain social issues without compromising your core principles."

Again, do you think you're going to have a choice? :-)

In 4 years time, I predict changing American values will have conservatives like yourself contorting yourselves into knots to liberize yourself to attract voters.

Good luck with that!

Conservatives will lose ever greater numbers of women, city folk, blacks, Latinos, educated, you name it.

Society is leaving you guys behind.

Sorry a non-American has to educate you about this. :-)

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Sushi - 'So yes, Republicans will have to cease to be Republicans, and that WILL be the ultimate abdication.'

Bass - "I'm glad you still retain a great sense of political humor."

I'm not joking. Conservatives are toast unless they effectively become throw their cherished values under the bus and become liberals.

Sorry!

Again, 110% yup!

In 4 years time, I predict changing American values will have conservatives like yourself contorting yourselves into knots to liberize yourself to attract voters.

Thank God, I don't have to worry about accepting your personal opinions.

Conservatives will lose ever greater numbers of women, city folk, blacks, Latinos, educated, you name it.

Single women, most blacks perhaps, but Latinos (generally conservative by default) and most educated over 35, most likely not.

Society is leaving you guys behind.

You mean, the president and his admin. Left the people behind. There, I fixed it for you.

Sorry a non-American has to educate you about this. :-)

I don't need education from an individual that isn't allowed to vote in US politics, has no bearing or outcome on our elections (thank God for that) whatsoever, but I do love a nice chat with you non-Americans.

Sail, thanks for backing up my point. :-)

"U.S. debt has grown to more than $16 trillion"

The U.S. politicians responsible for this should be arrested, slapped upside the head, their assets seized and sold with the proceeds going to paying off the debt, and sentenced to community service for the rest of their lives. Some of the them are dead already but many of them not only still live, but are, incredibly, still in the government.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

@sushi

everything you hoped, wished for and dreamed of in the last 2 elections was smashed into a million pieces.

So, that doesn't mean, I have to give in and submit to failing liberal policies, that will never happen.

Myself and thousands of Global Liberal non-Americans around the world picked the winner - again - when Americans like yourself came up short.

Yeah, you picked a winner alright, more debt, higher taxation, struggling economy, nah, the Americans that voted for this disaster of a president came up short. Again.

Why do you believe yourself now?

Because I know Obama will/is screwing up and I can't wait until a certain segment of the population realizes that they've been duped.

You're just harassing yourself if you think the GOP has any more chances of winning any future elections.

No, buddy, I think you liberals are kidding yourself if you think that this president is going to get us out of this financial hole that we are in and wait until Obamacare kicks in, by the looks of it, the Dems are on a clock and its a ticking away.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

bass: Yeah, you picked a winner alright, more debt, higher taxation, struggling economy, nah, the Americans that voted for this disaster of a president came up short. Again.

You didn't answer my questions from before: Do you think the Republican plan of a perpetual fiscal cliff has anything to do with companies not hiring? Do you support using the debt ceiling for leverage as a permanent fixture in government no matter who is in the White House?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Superlib

Do you think the Republican plan of a perpetual fiscal cliff has anything to do with companies not hiring?

Not necessarily, but I do know there is a lot of uncertainty In the jobs market.

http://www.cnbc.com/id/100270642/Four_Reasons_Why_Companies_Are_Still_Reluctant_to_Hire

Do you support using the debt ceiling for leverage as a permanent fixture in government no matter who is in the White House?

I sure do. This president is advocating that all Americans now needs more revenue (taxes) to implement these plans better in order to get America up and running, which is a load of crap. This president wants the debt ceiling raised, but doesn't want to cut back on wasteful spending, not willing to compromise, Obama is notoriously famous for that and as such, the Repubicans as well need Tim dig in their heels.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

And they still lost.

They never had the office of the President in the first place if that is what your in fact talking about.

As far as "losing". The Republican's the last two elections didn't lose anything. They GAINED record seats in 2010 and they still GAINED seats in 2012 at the State and local level through out the nation. They own more Governship's and State Legislators now then ever before. Apparently I need to lower my I.Q to that as a low information voter spoon feed left Media spin to call this "losing".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bass4funk: Not necessarily, but I do know there is a lot of uncertainty In the jobs market.

The first thing on the list: "These days, they're mainly feeling uncertain about the so-called "fiscal cliff," a series of tax hikes and government spending reductions to the tune of $600 billion that are set to take effect in 2013 unless Congress and the Obama administration can strike a deal."

I asked you if the perpetual fiscal cliff manufactured by Republicans is creating any kind of uncertainty.

This president is advocating that all Americans now needs more revenue (taxes) to implement these plans better in order to get America up and running, which is a load of crap.

Sorry, did taxes go up on the middle class and I missed it? Obama's wanted to let temporary tax cuts expire for very high income earners. That excludes a majority of the US. Translating that to "all Americans need to pay more tax" is pure fantasy.

This president wants the debt ceiling raised, but doesn't want to cut back on wasteful spending, not willing to compromise, Obama is notoriously famous for that and as such, the Repubicans as well need Tim dig in their heels.

The president offered multiple spending cuts in order to get more tax revenues from a tiny minority. You're just making stuff up now.
