A couple of years ago, President Obama said this of Paul Ryan, that he was "absolutely sincere about wanting to reduce the deficit." He called Ryan's plan "a legitimate proposal" and added that he gave him "credit for at least being willing to put out there some very tough choices." President Obama addressed Paul Ryan at a GOP retreat in 2010 and he said this, quote, "We're not going to be able to do anything about these entitlements if what we do characterize whatever proposal's are put out there as 'well, you know, that's the other party being irresponsible...the other party trying to hurt our senior citizens.'" Does he still feel that way?

Iowa can go either way. Romney-Ryan slogan should be "More jobs, less deficit & better future". Empty words are cheap.

Ryan and the Republican-controlled House passed a farm bill two weeks ago.*

An effort to provide emergency aid for American ranchers and farmers reeling from a year of drought, frost and other calamities collapsed on Thursday as members of Congress departed for their five-week August recess, leaving behind a pile of unfinished legislation as they go home to campaign for re-election.

After refusing to consider a sweeping five-year farm measure, House Republican leaders jammed through a short-term $383 million package of loans and grants for livestock producers and a limited number of farmers. The measure passed 223 to 197, a narrow margin for a bill that has an impact on so many states. But Democrats balked in protest over the way the farm legislation has been handled and some Republicans objected to the costs.

Democratic leaders in the Senate, which had already passed a bipartisan five-year bill, refused to take up the House measure, faulting House Republican leaders for failing to consider the broader legislation in time.

“I’m not passing a bill that only covers some producers,” said Senator Debbie Stabenow, Democrat of Michigan, the chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Moments after the House passed its bill, Ms. Stabenow took to the Senate floor to say that lawmakers would instead work informally over the August recess to try to put together a new measure to present to Congress when it meets in September. The White House would have considered the House measure, but she resisted, Senate aides said.

The Democrat’s bill wanted more funding for food stamps and wasn’t a “farm” bill. So as one sees, Obama is a pathological liar. Ryan voted for the farm bill that Democrats killed.

He already has but the Democrats in the Senate could have cared less. Farmers have crop insurance that will cover their losses, ranchers on the other hand, do not and are the ones who are suffering and who need the help now.

Most farm losses from the drought are covered by crop insurance, but livestock producers are not. House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas (R., Okla.) said completing a full five-year farm bill remains important to him, but the drought legislation is a priority.

"Ranchers are in dire need," Mr. Lucas said. "We have a drought...and I'm here to provide a solution."

When I said that the man is an ideologue, I forgot to add the modifier "opportunistic." He is all quite for big government before he is against it. He voted party-line during all eight years of the Bush administration. He voted for Bush's unfunded tax cuts; he voted for Bush's unfunded wars (both of them); he voted for Bush's unfunded Medicare drug prescription; he voted for the auto bailout; he voted for TARP.

He's now a fiscal hawk - to an extent, and that extent is that, as much as he abhors debt, he feels it is preferable to historically-justifiable levels of taxation on the wealthy. With Romney still withholding his tax returns, we won't know if Ryan's plan to lower Romney's tax bill to zero would actually save him money (it would, at least, save him lawyer and accountant fees); we also don't know whether Romney socked away those millions in his IRA in anticipation that inheritance taxes would be zeroed, as Ryan suggests (for Romney to suggest such a thing would be unseemly, even for him); it is clear that he would prefer skyrocketing debt to revenue-led sanity.

I look forward to him trying to defend this.

Be glad to tell them in detail! Seniors that Obama gutted 700 billion from medicare, Disabled Vets that Obama disrespected time after time. Researchers, innovators that are constantly losing their jobs because the government money that is provided via the tax payers gets spent on Green projects that fail again and again and again. Yes, I do know. Whatever you say, if you don't like Ryan, fine. Disparaging and calling people names is something liberals are very, very good at. You don't have to like Coulter, but she does piss off the left and that means, she is doing her job. I enjoy reading her work and that's all that counts. And before you talk about Opportunist, all politicians are opportunists including, yes, Obama, the biggest one. In addition to that, he is planning to increase a "Student Loan" interest while Obama is not.. . Paul Ryan has no interest in maximizing every student's potential to be a problem solver in society. ..

Paul Ryan is not for Education.. He has forgotten he was once getting federal financial help when he was a student many years ago.These students are smart and they see THAT. A double standard, right?

American is facing an intellectual challenge today. We need to realize this is a critical time transforming this country from Old Economy to New Economy for survival. The higher education is a key!

Here is the problem with that, because of Obama's out of control spending we are at a cross roads where we need to cut, CUT something, that's the problem with liberals, spend, spend, spend, spend until the money well is dry, Obama already cut NASA and now thanks to him, we have to ask the Russians for a lift in Space, not to mention, they are charging us an arm and a leg (REALLY) military budget is cut, so now if we really need to go to war or defend our allies or need to engage in any military conflict, we will be in deep... That's estimated to save 7.4 million students about $1,000 each on the average loan, which is usually paid off over 10 or more years. Applying basic math, a skill which seems to be beyond the ability of many college graduates these days, the amount of savings involved is a whopping $8.33 per month ($1,000 divided by 120 "or more" months). All the ink used and bandwidth burned by leftist partisans has bee over less than 30 cents a day.

But amid all the rhetoric, it's easy to forget that not everyone who has a student loan would be affected. For those who would be, the impact might not be as dire as feared. Here's what you need to know: To grasp what's at stake, it's important to first understand that Stafford loans are either subsidized or unsubsidized. Subsidized loans alleviate the cost of borrowing for low-income students because the government pays the interest on the loan while the student is in school. Eligibility is determined based on financial need; about 70 percent who qualify for subsidized loans have a family income of less than $50,000. With unsubsidized loans, interest accrues right away, so the loan balance grows while the student is in school. The current debate centers only on subsidized Stafford loans; the Education Department estimates that about 30 percent of undergraduates have this type. The other aspect of subsidized loans is that they currently come with a fixed rate of 3.4 percent. This is the rate that's set to double this summer; unsubsidized Stafford loans already carry a fixed interest rate of 6.8 percent. We sure do, but look at where liberals want to take us. I remember, when students last year were protesting student budget cuts, what was their answer; tax the rich! That is always the answer for liberals. They were asked would they take a cut in pay to help reduce or debt, they said " a little" but there should not be ANY pay cut. So do our liberal educators teach our students about fiscal responsibility before sending them out in the world, hardly. Hmm sounds familiar to what is happening in Greece right? Any wonder the state is in trouble with a budget deficit? But hey California let the unions run my state look how well that has worked out so far for you. LIBERAL FAIL!!!!!!!!

bass-4-funk, I do not know what you do for living. One of my kids currently owes $325,000 for her student loan. She is only 27 yrs old practicing a medicine. Do you know what's like when you owe $325,000 excluding home and car loans? You are very lucky. Hope someday she will be able to be your doc.

Honestly, if liberals think that conservatives will throw granny by the wayside is totally absurd to even suggest that is mind boggling! What the Dems and Obama are doing is over the top dishonest! Conservatives just want a way to fix all this without sinking the country further into heavier debt, both parties have been irresponsible in this, however, knowing that, you would think, liberals would slow down thw spending and they are doing the exact opposite, they are racking up the debt to a point where we might not ever get out if this. Yes, I do. My parents didn't give me anything and I took out grants, loans etc and had to get different jobs to pay back all of it, I am totally aware, but that was a different time, when we didn't have all of these financial problems, some of them were festering, but otherwise, we were fine, but today is a different story. WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY! We have to cut back on a lot of things, we have to, we/ this administration is NOT fiscally responsible. Dems and liberals think that America is awash with money and there are other resources we need to tap into to get it, but sorry, that well is dried up. We can't afford that anymore, this is why, it'd gotten to that point, something needs to get cut, it's going to hurt, but better now, recover, than NOT and having nothing at all. Again, when it comes to the economy, liberals get a solid F!

The election will boil down to two main issues: vote for a big government apparatus, where the government will have its hands in everything that you do.

Or

Vote for a smaller government that puts the responsibility in the people's hands, less intrusion and encourages bigger growth in the private sector.

Those are Your two choices, which one you choose will determine which direction our country will turn.
