I like Mr. Obama more and more each day. He is an honest and refreshing breath of fresh air.

You do know John McCain is going to be boo-ed. He should even go there; save himself the subbasement.

Go for it Obama, let them know that having a "baby mama" does not make you a man

What's Sen. McCain going to say at the NAACP convention?

"I'm white, therefore I feel your pain, vote for me."??

SushiSake3,

In all fairness, one does not have to be a certain race to believe in equality and peace between the races. Hopefully a time will come when most of the world can understand this. I think it is great that both candidates will be speaking.

george bush failed to respond to several black venues.

I'm not for McCain, but it's nice to see him attend.

I'm glad to hear Obama speak about responsibility. < :-)

Hey, Sarge!

Glad I could make you smile! ;-)

How did I do it? Don't you think Mr. Obama is an honest man?

I support what he says.

I am a Black man and have been responsible all of my life. I don't have any children out of wedlock, and I have not sold drugs or any other of the maladies that Obama talks of. Why, because I was taught that is not how a man, not just a Black one, acts in a society. It is all about the uplift of the greater good.

I would like Obama to make the same speech to women (adult women, that is Black and other colors). It takes two to tango. And if you decide to have sex with a man with no job, no education, and no responsibility to the children he may have fathered in this world, then I hate to say it but you deserve what you get. I can see how a young girl may easily get swayed by a smooth talker, but an adult woman who falls for this should no better. Yes things happen and people fall out of "like" with each other, and sometimes men (as well as women) do leave their families, but I am still of the thought that if you don't want somebody that trifiling in your life, don't go out with them. Responsibility is a two way street.

While Obama is a total mess on most other issues, good for him to come out and say what everyone is thinking.

Funny how Bill Cosby was totally crucified for saying this a few years back and now it's a cool thing to propogate because the Lord Messiah Obama has pronounced it to be so...

Actually Gyudon, when you consider how much grief William Cosby got for his beliefs, it truely is even more deserving of respect that Mr. Obama would still go ahead and give his honest opinions. I think it is great that he is willing to say what he feels needs to be said.

For the record, Mr. Cosby did not deserve the grief he got. He is also a very good man and deserved better.

One of the more moronic statements I've read around these parts. First, Cosby's criticisms went far beyond what Obama has said to this point, encompassing language, music, clothing, and mannerisms. Second, even so, Cosby was not "totally crucified." He is still a popular and influential entertainer and writer. Even if some members of the African-American community have written him off for the moment, his legacy has been pretty well cemented as an extremely positive one.

The main thing Cosby has done is get this all-important dialogue started, even if he offered himself up as the lighting rod. (That's what leaders like Obama do, rather than telling people to go shopping or to Disneyland like your Prince of Fools, Bush.)

I was pretty impressed when Colin Powell offered himself as a lighting rod when he declared himself Republican myself. A real leader like Obama.

Though have to say yabits you really need to got off you Bush BDS thing it isn't healthy

Is jesse jackson EVER going to go away?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That's not a message that the Al Sharptons of the world want to hear. The black activist community slammed Bill Cosby for taking the same stand in his motivational speeches 10 years or so ago.

People like Jesse Jackson don't help mend race relations, they merely antagonize non-blacks with their provocative rhetoric. Obama with his more conciliatory tone will accomplish way more.

RepublicofTexas, you are completely correct. Back in Milwaukee we had an alderman that was a race baiter like Jackson and Sharpton. When he was finally brought down for extortion and bribery there were people claiming it was a white conspiracy. The educated African Americans that I knew were happy he was out of the picture as he was just aggravating race relations. Obama is as you said taking a more conciliatory tone and will likely be more constructive in race relations than any of the other African American politicians who are now criticizing him.

skipthesong - Yeah, he might get beat to death, but at least he's not doing the popular thing of george bush.

I was one of the kids who used to get my head knocked in, because I wasn't one of the "IN CROWD KIDS". < :-)

the man who could become the first black president, said Washington must provide greater education and economic assistance, but that blacks must demand more of themselves.

Hey wait a minute. He's saying the government needs to provide more aid money to blacks, but at the same time saying blacks must be more responsible and less dependent. Hmmmm...sounds like he's arguing both sides of the issue. Man, is Obama the consummate politician or what.

Let's understand, I wouldn't vote for McCain, even if he was the only cadidate. I'd write in Li'l Abner before I voted for McCain. But I do like to see things like this. < :-)

Let him be an Eisenhower (by which I mean noble, a good example for everyone to follow) to blacks in America, please. His message is spot on.

Thanks for that wonderful personal attack Yabits, great showing of how liberals can't carry out a discussion without resorting to name-calling. On top of that the inevitable moral equivalency argument about levels of degree is the icing on the cake. It's OK for Obama to say the same thing as long as he doesn't elaborate..

Cosby was totally crucified, and Obama has never been a leader on anything. Empty suit.

NAJEE ALI: An open letter to Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sr. July 10, 2008 *Rev Jackson, your vulgar tirade caught on tape by Fox News where you said you wanted to cut Barack Obama's nuts off and accusing him of talking down to Black folks by giving moral lectures at churches is the last straw for me and a growing number of African Americans who are outraged at your comments. There are many Blacks across the nation, myself included, who are appreciative for the work and contributions you have made in your civil rights career. But at this point, you're hurting Black America and Obama. In September 2007 it was clear that you were frustrated by Obama, when you stated in an interview in South Carolina that Obama needs to stop acting white, because you felt he was not engaged in the Jena 6 movement enough to your liking. Rev Jackson your continued verbal attacks on Obama are unwarranted it's as if you're jealous that Obama has eclipsed you and both your campaigns for the Democratic nomination by actually preparing to win it as the 2008 presumptive nominee. Jesse Jackson & Barack Obama For years you have been criticized as an ambulance chaser and opportunist. Many of Dr. King's insiders and aides say that King did not trust you. 40 years ago in Memphis as King lay dying from an assassin's bullet your first thought and action was to smear your shirt with Dr. King's blood. You then proceeded to appear in Chicago the next day on several news programs wearing the same shirt you deliberately smeared with his blood as if you were the heir of King's movement. Obama's recent comments about Black fathers not abandoning their children and accepting moral responsibility in our lives is a lesson you apparently needed to learn when you were younger. If you had, it may not have caused you to cheat on your wife and father a child out of wedlock with a former staffer. Maybe that's what really bothered you about Obama's message to the church that Black fathers should be responsible for their children; you certainly haven't been.

Living in Los Angeles I have watched your ten year old daughter Ashley Laverne Jackson grow up. Over the years I have had the pleasure to spend several holidays with your daughter including Christmas, her birthday parties and other milestones in her life. I will never turn my back on Ashley her mom and their family. It's about providing friendship, support and love to them while you have been missing in action. Your daughter has never traveled or taken a trip with you, you have an annual birthday party in Beverly Hills every year where your entire family is welcome but your youngest child has only attended it once. She has had very little contact with her siblings and has never even met her big brother Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr, who apparently doesn't want anything to do with her. And allegedly (I believe it to be true ), he was the one to leak the scandal to the media concerning your affair. Now don't get me wrong, Obama is not above reproach. He is a politician and is fair game to be fairly criticized by you or anyone else. But to personally attack Obama is crossing the line. Obama is not talking down to Black people; he wants you and other dead beat dads to spend time and care for your children properly. The destruction of the Black family and absentee fathers is a major problem in our community. It's a problem that King spoke out and fought against. 40 years after King's murder I can see why King didn't trust you. If you can't and won't sincerely help Obama in this historic run then at least stop attacking him. Listen to Obama's message of being a responsible father and start taking care of your daughter Ashley.
