"McCain, a supporter of the war in Iraq, was sharply critical of the high court ruling, declaring it would hamper what Bush has termed the war on terrorism."

So, McCain favors locking suspects up indefinitely without allowing them the right to defend themselves, without habeus corpus, all in the name of "terrorism"?

That's Gulag Russia, not 21st century America.

"McCain, a supporter of the war in Iraq, was sharply critical of the high court ruling, declaring it would hamper what Bush has termed the war on terrorism."

Is there anything, and I mean anything that can be called a success that came from the so-called war on terror?

"Is there anything that can be called a success that came from the so-called war on terror?"

No terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since September 11, 2001 comes to mind.

"Obama has also praised last week's Supreme Court decision that allows detainees at the U.S. military prison in Guantanano Bay, Cuba, to challenge their imprisonment in U.S. civilian courts."

That will come back to haunt him when that scumbag Khalid Sheikh Mohammed gets a U.S. civilian court to free him.

"No terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since September 11, 2001 comes to mind."

You've already been told that using those kind of maths means Bush is the terra president. Please try to keep up.

You do know of course, he will be set free - don't you?

"You do know of course, he will be set free - don't you?"

Where does the certitude come from that he will be set free?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge,

You actually think that an American court would set free one of the main planners of 9-11? Is your confidence in your own legal system that low?

As for the oft quoted "no attacks since 9-11" - you do not know if another approach (i.e. competently executed) would have had the same (or better) result.

"Obama seizes on growing disapproval of Bush policies..." ???

What Barack Obama seized was the opportunity to personify victimhood and entitlement, the New Left drama that has replaced traditional Democratic Party values. The MSM just updates the script.

"Is your confidence in your own legal system that low?'"

I guess the fundies are in a tizz because activist judges are allowing two men to marry each other. So of course they have no faith in their legal system!

Buddha - "You actually think that an American court would set free one of the main planners of 9-11? Is your confidence in your own legal system that low? "

Hey, they set OJ free, didn't they? Why not Khalid?

And no, we don't know for sure if not going after the terrorists would have resulted in pacifying/stopping them, but I bet it wouldn't have.

From the article: "Obama... vows to pull American forces out of Iraq within 16 months of taking office."

That would be a monumental disaster. It's going to be several more years before we can pull out and leave a free and stable Iraq. Anyone with any brains knows this. This is what I can't understand. Obama is not dumb, yet he's setting himself up for a monumental foreign disaster before he can even finish one term. Hopefully he'll never get the chance.

Heh, no surprises here - Sarge, like pretty much all the other anti-American War Supporters - think money grows on trees and that cash will just continue appearing out of nowhere with no ramifications to fund this war that Sen. McCain, George Bush or the Republicans have any idea whatsoever will finish.

The biggest obstacle in McCain’s path could well be that he is running in the same party as the most unpopular president America has had since at least the advent of modern polling. Only Harry Truman and Nixon — both of whom were bashed by unpopular wars abroad and political scandals at home — have been nearly as unpopular in their last year in office, and both men’s parties lost the presidency in the following election.

Heh, history's not really on Sen. McCain's side in this one.

Sarge - "This is what I can't understand. Obama is not dumb, yet he's setting himself up for a monumental foreign disaster before he can even finish one term. Hopefully he'll never get the chance."

Classic reality breakdown.

The big question I have been asking the anti-American War Supporters for over a year now is: Where is the money going to come from to continue funding this war?

Sarge, you have said 'from American taxpayers."

You do know you Government is completely bankrupt and borrowing trillions off the Chinese adn Japanese, don't you?

Also, you do - I sincerely hope - realize that your government lies to you - yet again - when it comes up with this cooked up "$12 billion per month" war expenditure?

Yes, you are right - that figure does NOT include ongoing VA funding, or debt servicing costs on the ever-increasing loans your government is making. The actual figure is estimated to be up to $27 billion per month.

So yes, congratulations - you have been conned again.

This spending simply cannot continue without there being MASSIVE ramifications for Americans, not to mention the global economy.

Quite accurately, you say "Obama is not dumb."

He's not, because he is aware of what I wrote above.

You aren't.

Abnd Sarge, Sen. McCain wants to continue this out of control spending, with no strategy and no end in sight.

McCain is setting himself up for a monumental economic meltdown before he can even finish one term.

Thankfully, the truly patriotic Americans who know what is truly best for their country aren't going to let that happen.

Sushi - Out of control spending would be going back into Iraq 3 or 4 years from now after President Obama, in his monumental short-sightedness, withdraws all our troops 16 months after he takes office. Thankfully, the truly patriotic Americans who know what is truly best for our country aren't going to let that happen.

"Hey, they set OJ free, didn't they? Why not Khalid?"

Something to do with dodgy evidence wasn't it? And speaking of that word the Bush sect don't care for, evidence, do they atually have anything on this guy?

Obviously I won't be accepting information gleaned from the despicable use of torture...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Do they ( actually ) have anything on this guy ( Khalid )?"

Yeah - he admits to doing it and on top of that says he wants to be martyred. I see no good reason to turn down this particular request...

Madverts apparently believes this scumbag was set up. Incredible...

Sarge -

Did he admit to doing it before or after they dunked him in the water?

Obama is pushing to define himself as a mainstream Democrat

barack spent 20 years in a church that promoted Anti-American and racial hatred.

His closest friends and financial backers blew up U.S. goverment buildings and to this day will not say they were sorry.

His true attitude when catering to other elitists behind doors was brought out in a nice audio recording: Bitter blue collar working class people living in America's flyover zone who only hold onto their guns and religion because they have antipathy toward anyone that is different. That's why he got hammered in the last 4 out of 5 democrat primaries.

Heh, yep .... sounds like the definition of a true mainstream democrat.

Cleo, uh, sarge;

Even Bush Co Yes-Man, Gen David Petraeus wrote thinking that "torture could elicit information quickly was "wrong". He wrote: "Some may argue that we would be more effective if we sanctioned torture or other expedient methods to obtain information from the enemy. They would be wrong."

"Beyond the basic fact that such actions are illegal, history shows that they also are frequently neither useful nor necessary."

"His closest friends and financial backers blew up U.S. goverment buildings"

Heh, the Panic just gets....well, hysterical, as we roll towards November.

the Panic just gets....well, hysterical, as we roll towards November

Heh, yep, the democrats will be panicing as Lemming Day gets closer.

RR

Lemming Day was back in '06.

And I don't see any democrat supporters making up lies about McCain like you have been consistently doing, like yout earlier claim that Obama's "closest friends and financial backers blew up U.S. goverment buildings".

Panic away. It will be fun to watch.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Two words: William Ayres. Please try to keep up.

Panic away, verts. democrat Lemming Day will be here before you know it.

RR

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Oh I will keep up, ramen. I will be noting your absence (again) here when the republicans receive their second thumping in 2 years.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Heh, yeah, and ever since the democrats took control everything in America now costs more.

Plus, the DNC chose to back a closet racist this time around. Heh, democrat Lemming Day fast approaches.

RR

"since the democrats took control "

Kerry lost y'know. But nevermind - you'll have from 2008 'till 2016 to blame everything on President Obama.

Cleo - He bragged about his involvement in 9/11 and beheading Daniel Pearl after the "dunk in the water." Oh, I guess that means he's really innocent and we should not only let him go but apologize and give him a hybrid car?

Moderator: Back on topic please.

I guess that means he's really innocent and we should not only let him go but apologize

No, it means the people in charge of the war on terra messed up big-time; they could have shown the world why Western civilisation was worth saving from the terrerists, and instead they threw away the chance to hold a legitimate trial and bring a known criminal to justice. No legitimate Western courtroom would convict a person on the strength of a confession extracted through torture. They could have convicted him 'cleanly', on the tangible evidence.

They do have tangible evidence, don't they?

On topic, I seem to remember McCain stating clearly that he was dead against the use of torture. Maybe he needs to remind people that he isn't George Bush.

Assuming that he isn't, of course.

It happens every four years, regular as clockwork; 300 million people to choose from, and it always comes down to picking the lesser of two weevils to be Prez. Surely there's a better way.

Instead, Obama is perceived as the one best able to handle the economy, and has repeatedly shifted the debate in that direction.

Obama has done a better job of tapping into voter anxiety about the economy and has proposed more and more comprehensive measures to deal with the effects of the slowing economy and globalization but, IMO, his economic policy is the worse of the two major party candidates. Obama would undercut the one cylinder of the American economic engine that is still firing reliably - the export sector - by adopting protectionist trade measures. He would also burden U.S. companies with a higher minimum wage, more regulation and unfunded mandates. Finally, his education program offers little hope of improving worker productivity which is the only means by which the US will raise its standard of living over time.

He again criticized McCain’s proposal for a temporary halt in the federal gasoline tax.

The tax is a bad idea but, IMO, not worth the time that Obama devotes to it on the campaign trail.

It would “actually do real harm,” Obama said, by reducing revenue for road and bridge construction even as oil companies make record profits.

Unfortunately both Obama and McCain seem to buy into the idea that windfall profits and high CEO salaries are ill-gotten gains that ought be realized. It's not appropriate for governments to regulate the profitability or cost structure of privately-owned companies.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

...that ought be realized

"...that ought to be regulated" I meant to say.
