“Our mission has to be to accelerate hiring and accelerate growth,” the president declared Friday

TWO years after he was elected he has finally decided to attempt to tackle the number one issue which has plagued the USA - the economy. This should have been his focus from the first day he sat in that oval office.

Why has he waited so long? The answer is found in the final two words of the article: reelection campaign.

The only growth Obama's going to accelerate is the growth of the debt.

"TWO years after he was elected he has finally decided to attempt to tackle the number one issue which has plagued the USA - the economy."

Two years ago(just as Obama took office)the all out effort was to keep the economy from crashing due to the severest recession since the Great Depression. Short term or selective memory seems to prevail today.

He is all talk. But his party can start by agreeing to Republican (and popular) demand to repeal Obama Care. The CBO (non partisan) recently testified doing so would save more than 500 billion dollars annually. Good as any place to start.

SolidariTea: Where did you get that information? This was reported Jan. 7th:

Newser) – Republicans have hit a potential roadblock in their quest to dump health care reform: the price. Repeal would add $230 billion to the deficit by 2021, according to an analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. Reform itself, the CBO has said, would reduce the deficit by $143 billion over a decade. Moreover, the CBO finds, repeal would cut the number of Americans with health insurance in 2019 by some 32 million, Politico reports.

I wonder why he waited so long.

paulin usa - that information is from an email sent by Edward "Sandy" Davis, CBO's Associate Director for Legislative Affairs, to Cap Hill staffers. But I was wrong about the amount of money saved: it is estimated to be about 540 bil over ten years. Of course CBO can only work with the numbers that the Congress provides em with. And we all know the Pelosi Congress could not be trusted on that point.

Obama really should have made the economy his top priority, or at least made it clear that it's his top priority. I support his other measures but I think he underestimated the economic situation.

“Our mission has to be to accelerate hiring and accelerate growth,” the president declared Friday at a window manufacturing plant in suburban Maryland.

President Obama is two years too late.

From the beginning of his presidency, Obama claimed that this was the worst economy since the Great Depression but instead of focusing on the economy and jobs, he pushed his socialist ideology instead. So he pretty much wasted the past two years because he figured that since he had a filibuster proof majority in Congress he could push through his ideological agenda and worry about the jobs later as his re-election campaign got underway.

Obama was focusing on healthcare reform on the last 2 years(which is long overdue).
