“That’s why we have to reject any attempt to stigmatize Muslim-Americans, and their enormous contributions to our country and our way of life,” Obama said. - article

President Obama is asking the world understand, the faith of Allah, the faith of the Koran is not killing innocent People. The hate of Donald J. Trump, the religious prejudice of Ted Cruz is as destructive as any weapon.

The Hate Trump/Cruz demand harms the children, the faithful and the honest peaceful followers of Muhammad. Stop the hate, stop the slaughter and embrace love for all of the children who ask not what they can do for us, but what will we do to protect their innocence? A fair question in any faith.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz demanded this week that police “patrol and secure” Muslim neighborhoods in the U.S. in the aftermath of the Brussels attacks, and reiterated an earlier call to suspend the relocation of Syrian refugees to the country. (snip) Donald Trump, meanwhile, repeated his demand for the government to temporarily bar all Muslims from entering the U.S.

Both candidates have dodged questions when asked about the logistics of their plans. I personally don't think they have any and I'm guessing their supporters really don't care much about the specifics anyway. They just want to know someone will be there who says such outlandish things since their desire to "get back" at Islam is running high right now.

Both of them have also added misleading statements about Muslims in the US with Trump talking about "tens of thousands" of cheering Muslims in New Jersey and Cruz talking about the situation in Europe (Muslim ghettos, radicalized/unemployed Muslim youth) and saying it's happening here in the US. They are peddling lies they know are lies.

Cruz also has added Frank Gaffney to his team of national security advisors, a man who says Obama is our first Muslim president and wants Muslims removed from intelligence positions in the US because they will give information to the Muslim Brotherhood. Cruz naturally dodges questions about Gaffney's notorious statements. The appointment itself is a wink to the Islamophobic part of the GOP base in America.

Republicans have also gone on record saying a Muslim should not be President of the US. Republicans state governments have passed laws banning Sharia law, apparently feeling it was so close to taking over that something had to be done(?). They think being a good American is reporting your Muslim neighbor because he's working late at night in his garage.

A full 60% of Trump supporters believe Obama is a Muslim. You should only take a second to be blown away by that statement because it should sink in that this is the target audience for both men. All of the above makes perfect sense when that mindset is there, and it's sick to watch intelligent men like Cruz and Trump play into that for political (read: personal) gain.

The statements will keep coming and so will the easy lies. Experts from all walks of security, including the military and police, will continue to speak out about how utterly silly and unworkable these ideas are and they will be ignored. Trump/Cruz supporters want to lash out at Muslims and I suppose the closest ones are right here in the US. Makes no difference to them.

November can't come soon enough for this guy to be out of office, counting the days.

President Obama is asking the world understand, the faith of Allah, the faith of the Koran is not killing innocent People.

Obama is saying, I'm a lame duck and I'll be out of here soon enough, I couldn't care less, now let me finish my dance with this beautiful woman.

The hate of Donald J. Trump, the religious prejudice of Ted Cruz is as destructive as any weapon.

And yet, the Democratic party prides itself in subliminal racism by shrouding it in their deceptive lies of government dependency.

The Hate Trump/Cruz demand harms the children, the faithful and the honest peaceful followers of Muhammad.

If the terrorists choose to hide among the innocents that is the outrage liberals should have. Cruz is absolutely right on this.

Stop the hate, stop the slaughter and embrace love for all of the children who ask not what they can do for us, but what will we do to protect their innocence? A fair question in any faith.

We should do everything possible to stop and dismantle and destroy ISIS and radical Islam, whatever it takes to get it done.

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

"The remarks by the Democratic president follow controversial statements in the wake of the Brussels bombings by the two top Republicans vying to succeed him in the White House."- article

The GOP/Tea, the political army of hate for color, for race, for religion . . . . hate is their cancer. Sad the cancer of hate is as ignorant as well as deadly.

Who will a Trump bigot shoot first?

Never?

Not if, but when?

Donald J. Trump, tear down your wall of hate?

But, Trump can't stop hate, it is Donald J. Trump's creed.

Five years of 'birther' racism? Accident?

No, not really. It' racism and Trump should have the guts to own his own racism.

Or, Trump is a bigot and a coward.

Unsurprising, the GOP/Tea has been catering to Trump anyway.

And bigots and cowards are right up their alley.

Obama said Muslim-Americans are "our most important partners" in the fight against jihadists

No they aren't. Look, they're already complaining of Cruz' call for enhanced surveillance on the muslim communities in the US. They need to chose a side, only then can obama call them "partners."

“That’s why we have to reject any attempt to stigmatize Muslim-Americans, and their enormous contributions to our country and our way of life,” Obama said.

What "enormous contribution" is this guy talking about? Way of life? The Koran they live by prohibits them from enjoying our way of life.

The Hate Trump/Cruz demand harms the children, the faithful and the honest peaceful followers of Muhammad

You must mean those peaceful followers of Muhammad like Palestinians. Those crazy children are filled with so much "hate" they go around slashing innocent people.

You don't see Trump/Cruz supporters' children going around "slashing" with knives.

President Obama is asking the world understand, the faith of Allah, the faith of the Koran is not killing innocent People.

Nonsense! This president needs to forget the Political Correctness crap and say, "We are at war with Radical Islam." Its not that hard.

0 ( +10 / -9 )

" terrorists who want to turn us against one another", President Obama

This is a global decision., There is no ideology in the slaughter of children.

Only the Mom's and Dad's who will never be the same.

Terrorists want to turn us against one another

Is that your choice?

What can you do about it? Kill someone?

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

We should do everything possible to stop and dismantle and destroy ISIS and radical Islam, whatever it takes to get it done.

(LoL) Let's be sensitive and more tolerant to "everyone's" needs bass. Let's be politically correct and refrain from saying this.

We should do everything possible to stop and dismantle and destroy ISIS and radical Islam, whatever it takes to get it done.

That's way too much to ask from that baboon of a president obama. Who won't even recognize that there is a "radical islam." Anyways, yes we should be destroying ISIS.

What can you do about it? Kill someone?

If they surrender, then they won't be killed. Maybe waterboarded at Gitmo in order to extract vital information for European authorities to spoil their (ISIS) next plot.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

I disagree "most" he is insulting many other countries that have been helping USA.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I agree their existing In USA is important. We can learn their culture and their way of thinking to understand why ISIS grows to be popular, too. Patrolling? worse than Japan during WW II.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

mumbo-jumbo talk, but no action.

Where's your action? You crow about taking money from the US federal government, so you should be the first in queue to get involved. Don't pull the age or physical limitation. Pogues who expect others to fight wars for them while they're getting government pay, directly or indirectly, while they're getting a form of welfare, are the lowest sort of primate.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Obama has bought into the Muslim Brotherhood talking points hook, line, and sinker. Alas, he is not the only one.

E.g.

kcjapan: "the faith of the Koran is not killing innocent People."*

Well, yes. The catch is of course the dfinition of "innocent". Non-muslims are not "innocent", because we reject Allah.

See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69cvALxgU-Q

1 ( +6 / -5 )

President Obama is asking the world understand, the faith of Allah, the faith of the Koran is not killing innocent People.

Wow, you've never actually read the Qur'an at all have you? And you obviously haven't even read any part of Mohammed's history. You're only spouting what Islamic apologists have spoon fed you to believe. Obama is spouting the exact same ignorance. Only thing is the FBI, the CIA, and Defense department aren't buying any of it, so it's just lip service of sorts.

I only agree as far as Islam's main goal isn't to kill innocent people (that's just collateral damage), but it's main goal is the submission of all for Allah whether anyone wants to or not. Islam does not mean peace, it means "submission". Whether by force, by coercion, or not at all which results in execution of non-believers.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

"the faith of the Koran is not killing innocent People."

Ask those who think killing apostates, homosexuals, adulterers, blasphemers and even infidels where they get the idea that this behaviour is acceptable. Not all come from the Koran. The hadiths also contain heart-warming views on how to treat 'innocent' people.

You also have to wonder where people who blow up trains, buses and airports in Europe get the idea this is justified. Who are we to doubt their interpretation of word perfect holy books?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

HonestDictator:

" Only thing is the FBI, the CIA, and Defense department aren't buying any of it, "

I wish that was so, but Obama has been busy banning intelligence community from even considering the concept of "islamic terrorism", forcing them instead to follow the CAIR dictated agenda and thus be blind. See here:

http://www.theblaze.com/blog/2014/03/26/a-detailed-look-at-the-purge-of-u-s-counter-terrorism-training-by-the-obama-administration/

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Even in the Democrat-majority state of Oregon, the "people" voted AGAINST driver's licenses for illegal aliens 2 to 1! Did not Obama hear that news? EVEN DEMOCRATS do not want to play Russian roulette.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Islam is not to blame for any of this! We MUST accept any all all Muslims! It would be racist not to! Are you a racist? So what if a few of the crazy ones kill us, doesn't mean they're all bad! Let them in!

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Obama's family is protected by bodyguards 24/7 and he's always full of advice about everything from soup to nuts.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Some truth to what Obama is saying but nor should we pander to or appease Muslim minorities as much of Europe has done.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Mr. Noidal:

" This is a disgusting comment. It's a racist comment and I can't believe the moderators didn't delete it. It must be because you cleverly hid your racism in a wisely chosen word: baboon. "

Make a Goggle picture search for "Bush + ape" and enjoy the hundreds of cartoons that come up. There was a flood of them, but I don´t recall you going off on that racism.

"Anyway, the folks who are saying that Obama doesn't allow the intelligence community to say the noun phrase, "radical Islam"; or, who are suggesting that Obama supports radicals and terrorists; those people sound absurd. Please furnish empirical evidence of Obama doing this. "

I Posted a link to an article describing his directiv (following demands from CAIR). Read it. Or google for others. Obamas CAIR inspired directive to blank out "lslamic terrorism" from the intelligence content is not a secret.

"This is what I hear Obama saying. He's not supporting radical Islam; he's saying don't fall for radical islam's bait."

He is repeating islamist apolgist talking points and he has consistently supported the Muslim Brotherhood agenda. (CAIR itself is a Muslim Brotherhood front group, read up on it.)

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Cruz's idea is already being followed in the UK, France and other European states. Muslim neighborhoods there are under electronic surveillance 24/7 by the state security apparatus. It's done very quietly, but hey, it's gotta be done. The non-intrusive postures of past years sure didn't help, did they?

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Wow, the wheels are really coming off.

Stigmatizing Muslims 'plays into hands' of jihadists

Of course it does. A no brainer really. The radical right has been playing into jihadist hands for quite some time.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Everything non-jihadist plays into the hands of jihadists. What a chump.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

"stigmatizing muslims" is a code-word for "criticizing islam". How very convenient.

What I wonder is why the Obama-believers (and Obama himself) do not apply this logic to themselves. I don´t see that they are are hesitent in any way to stigmatize Republicans, Trump followers, or anybody else who does not belong to their belief system.

Double standards, very much?

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Instead of supporting the victims of Islamic terrorism, it is unconscionable that Obama's first instinct is always to shift the blame to the victims. Why? The attack in Belgium was not against Muslims. And most attacks on religious people in America are against Jews. Obama's knee-jerk defense of Islam can only be seen as an attempt to generate the appearance of a backlash against Muslims that does not in fact exist. Obama wants religious discord in America just as he has been inciting racial discord by always blaming white people every time a controversial incident occurs. A responsible leader would side with the victims of terror and would be seeking to bring people together instead of being the agent of division.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Heh, don't be so hard on the Worst President Ever. After all, the lame duck (emphasis on the word lame) did spend about 30 seconds talking to ESPN about the Islamic terror attacks in Belgium before going back to trading jokes jokes and watching a baseball game with his new BFF, Raul Castro. . . .

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

This is what I have to say to Muslim Americans:

You are my brothers and my sisters. You are my fellow Americans, and have every right to worship whatever you wish, or nothing at all. That is what it means to be an American. You know it. I know it.

The bigots don't. Because they are ignorant, un-American scum

Further, you -- my brother and sisters -- have no reason do 'defend' your faith. Or what other's do in around the world the name of your faith. I know you, and I love you.

And I will not let bigoted, un-American scum target you, your friends and loved ones.

The bigots want a fight, and they got it.

And they will lose.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Wow, the wheels are really coming off.

Indeed, it's like there no filter at all on the Obama Derangement Disorder (ODD) afflicted anymore. It's really really odd bubble wherein the afflicted are so divorced from reality they come up with the really nuttiest .

"Obama wants religious discord in America just as he has been inciting racial discord by always blaming white people every time a controversial incident occurs."

Case in point.

"The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don't represent peace. They represent evil and war." no, not Obama...

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Mr Noidall: This is a disgusting comment. It's a racist comment and I can't believe the moderators didn't delete it. It must be because you cleverly hid your racism in a wisely chosen word: baboon.

I agree, this is offensive. But the numerous comparisons of Bush to a monkey were every bit as offensive as these and they were never removed. Unfortunately, I do not recall anyone on the Left opposing this kind of offensive speech when it was against their political enemies. Equal opportunity offensiveness - such is the state of modern political discourse.

gcbel: "The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don't represent peace. They represent evil and war." no, not Obama...

Again, why with the reflexive defense of Islam? I do not think the average Muslim is the problem any more than the average Christian during the Crusades. However, like during the Crusades there is a religious war being waged. This time the war is being waged by a powerful group of Muslims instead of by a powerful group of Christians. Unlike Obama's continued deflection away from the actual perpetrators, he and his supporters are forever engaged in deflection seeking to lay blame on others by bringing up the Muslim persecution straw man.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Bubble dwellers just like things that sound tough. Whether or not the plans are effective or Constitutional, eh, mostly just side points. We have to make sure that these immature and emotionally weak people aren't deciding actual policy for us. They are just too afraid of Muslims to be making good decisions. They want a war, carpet bombing, Muslim registries, neighbor spying on neighbor, religious bans, etc. History has taught us how misguided policies like these are but they are just too scared and aren't thinking rationally. They want to lash out and won't feel whole again until the Muslims pay.

Obama is forced to step in to reassure the world that these cowards won't be hijacking the conversation. People supported Bush when he said the same thing but he was white and too many Trump/Cruz supporters hate minorities so there's a big difference in their minds.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

FDR who put the Japanese in the internment camps in 1941, was a DEMOCRAT who started keeping lists of the Japanese in 1936 because he didn't trust them. So, it is ironic that someone from the SAME Party is now preaching about fear. And, the truth is, some Japanese would not sign oaths of allegiance and so that is one reason they were not trusted. Who knows what they might have thought of doing or carried out if the war had raged on and they were free to do as they liked.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Again, why with the reflexive defense of Islam?

Those were George Bush's words soon after another attack perpetrated by muslims.

When we think of Islam we think of a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world. Billions of people find comfort and solace and peace. And that's made brothers and sisters out of every race -- out of every race.*

America counts millions of Muslims amongst our citizens, and Muslims make an incredibly valuable contribution to our country. Muslims are doctors, lawyers, law professors, members of the military, entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, moms and dads. And they need to be treated with respect. In our anger and emotion, our fellow Americans must treat each other with respect.

Women who cover their heads in this country must feel comfortable going outside their homes. Moms who wear cover must be not intimidated in America. That's not the America I know. That's not the America I value.

I've been told that some fear to leave; some don't want to go shopping for their families; some don't want to go about their ordinary daily routines because, by wearing cover, they're afraid they'll be intimidated. That should not and that will not stand in America.

Those who feel like they can intimidate our fellow citizens to take out their anger don't represent the best of America, they represent the worst of humankind, and they should be ashamed of that kind of behavior.

G. Bush Sept. 17, 2001

So much for the crackpot theory...

1 ( +3 / -2 )

And yet the atrocities continue, gcbel. And the truth is, some of these murders have taken place in LIBERAL territory in gun-free zones. The Roseburg murders of Christians were on a college campus and the San Bernardino murders were absolutely unpredictable - taking place at a state employee gathering! How much more did the state employees have to embrace diversity??????? Gun sales have been increasing in both Roseburg and San Bernardino and teachers are among those buying. Muslims need to volunteer, themselves, to police their own populations or lose all credibility.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

gcbel: Those were George Bush's words soon after another attack perpetrated by muslims.

What does Obama's response to terrorism now have to do with Bush's measured response in the days and weeks directly after 9/11? Bush sent jihadi's to Guantanamo. No one would accuse him of being soft on Islamic inspired extremism. But your comparison to Bush only highlights Obama's nonsensical deflection from the problem within the Muslim religion. Instead of justified outrage towards the slaughter of innocents, Obama prefers to downplay it rather than take on religious inspired atrocities committed by those that share a belief system that he is sympathetic to. By the way, his baseball stadium wave with a murderous dictator is just as inexplicable.

SuperLib: Obama is forced to step in to reassure the world that these cowards won't be hijacking the conversation.

That's a load of bull. Obama just wants to do as he always does, arrogantly talk down to those he disagrees with. Obama hardly ever engages in debates or policy making. He dictates then demeans anyone who disagrees no matter who they are.

People supported Bush when he said the same thing but he was white

Bush's race has nothing to do with anything. Race centrism is a dangerous aspect of Leftist ideology. Nothing is to be gained by it other than division.

...and too many Trump/Cruz supporters hate minorities so there's a big difference in their minds.

So you are calling millions of people you do not personally know racists solely because they are concerned about the safety of their country. No wonder American's are so polarized.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Bush sent jihadi's to Guantanamo.

No, Bush sent a bunch of people to Guantanamo. Some of whom actually turned out to be jihadis.

Instead of justified outrage towards the slaughter of innocents, Obama prefers to downplay it

No, instead of unjustified outrage to a whole religion, Obama prefers to focus on those who are actually terrorists.

Obama hardly ever engages in debates or policy making. He dictates then demeans anyone who disagrees no matter who they are.

When someone is pushing a ridiculous stance as if it actually had validity, sometimes you just have to ignore them, as giving their ridiculous stance a voice would indicate that it actually had some validity.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Obama prefers to downplay it rather than take on religious inspired atrocities committed by those that share a belief system that he is sympathetic to.

huh?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Still peddling?

What does Obama's response to terrorism now have to do with Bush's measured response in the days and weeks directly after 9/11? [...]

Really? Same type of comments by 2 presidents about Islam and Muslims after a terrorist event. You're going be that disingenuous?

Bush sent jihadi's to Guantanamo. No one would accuse him of being soft on Islamic inspired extremism.

And Bush lied us into a war with Iraq (which wasn't responsible for 9/11) and created the conditions for the rise of ISIS. And one could argue that Gitmo was a mistake. Thank you for that.

In fact, in many respects, to the disappointment of many on the left, Obama preserved and even extended Bush's war on terror. He expanded the drone wars. He got Bin-laden (who was responsible for 9/11) is waging an air war at the head of a coalition against ISIS . US just killed ISIS POS number 2, Fadhil Ahmad al-Hayali...

"We will continue with the 60 nations going after" the Islamic State, the terrorist group that claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Instead of justified outrage towards the slaughter of innocents,

Speaking of a boatload of bull.

"Once again, we’ve seen an outrageous attempt to terrorize innocent civilians. This is an attack not just on Paris, it’s an attack not just on the people of France, but this is an attack on all of humanity and the universal values that we share." after Paris attacks

The thoughts and the prayers of the American people are with the people of Belgium, and we stand in solidarity with them in condemning these outrageous attacks against innocent people. We will do whatever is necessary to support our friend and ally Belgium in bringing to justice those who are responsible. after Brussels attacks

Obama prefers to downplay it rather than take on religious inspired atrocities committed by those that share a belief system that he is sympathetic to.

Ha ha ha.. really? that obvious a dog-whistle ? "a belief system (Islam) he is sympathetic to", code for pssst... Obama's a closet Muslim. THat's just sad.

Obama just wants to do as he always does, arrogantly talk down to those he disagrees with. Obama hardly ever engages in debates or policy making. He dictates then demeans anyone who disagrees no matter who they are.

more of the same boatload. Sounds like you're describing the Republican right to me.

If anyone's lowering the state of modern political discourse to gutter level... we can thank the right-wing blogosphere and the ODD sphere for that. Obama won both elections... when will the right-wing ever get over it?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

No, Bush sent a bunch of people to Guantanamo. Some of whom actually turned out to be jihadis.

Unless you were the guy that actually captured all of these innocence bystanders just hanging around various far-flung battlefields I would suggest that you have no idea what you are talking about.

No, instead of unjustified outrage to a whole religion, Obama prefers to focus on those who are actually terrorists.

That's hilarious. Obama doesn't even understand who the terrorists are. He cannot correctly enunciate what motivates their animus when it is completely obvious to everyone on the planet over six years old. Denying the obvious isn't sophisticated or even clever. It's a missed opportunity to directly address the problem.

Obama's inability to say who the terrorists are is frustrating to a huge number of American's. Even worse, he only becomes animated about terrorism when he is defending Islam and going after a virtually non-existent backlash against Muslims in America. In reality, Muslims are not being targeted by some Neanderthal backlash. Muslims remain far less likely to be the victim of religiously motivated crime than Jews yet he does not even make much of an issue of that at all. I cannot even fathom the selective outrage on his part.

I am certainly not in the camp of those that view all Muslims as potential terrorists. That is clearly false. But it is telling that Obama has no problem singling out Christians for the Crusades but is mute about Islam's role in the years and years of Islamic inspired terrorism that is going on now.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Unless you were the guy that actually captured all of these innocence bystanders just hanging around various far-flung battlefields I would suggest that you have no idea what you are talking about.

And I'd suggest you have no idea what you are talking about, but this guy does: http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/most-guantanamo-detainees-are-innocent-ex-bush-official-1.804550

Obama doesn't even understand who the terrorists are. He cannot correctly enunciate what motivates their animus when it is completely obvious to everyone on the planet over six years old.

This is why Obama is president, and you (and the other bloodthirsty republicans) aren't. Statesmanship and diplomacy. A good president knows you don't offend anyone you don't need to, and focus on those that are the problem. You claim Obama doesn't know who the terrorists are - whereas you'd prefer to mark people who aren't terrorists as terrorists so as not to miss any, Obama prefers to limit his discussion to those who are actually terrorists.

Obama's inability to say who the terrorists are is frustrating to a huge number of American's.

Only the foolish blood-thirst Americans.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Obama doesn't even understand who the terrorists are. He cannot correctly enunciate what motivates their animus when it is completely obvious to everyone on the planet over six years old.

Complete nonsense of course and nothing you said substantiates this. This is a contrived talking point from the right that doesn't even survive the giggle test

Obama's inability to say who the terrorists are is frustrating to a huge number of American's.

True there are quite a few folks living in the ODD bubble who'll believe any ridiculous talking point the likes of Ann Coulter or FOX news put out but for the intelligent majority...

In reality, Muslims are not being targeted by some Neanderthal backlash.

No, of course Muslims aren't being lynched by the score in the streets but in reality there is a strong undercurrent of Islamophobia and resentment against Muslims in America today. Hate crimes against Muslims are 5 times more common today than before 9/11. And you can easily find such sentiment in posts in threads you yourself have posted on. Guess you just 'missed' them, eh? And, of course quite a few people on the board aren't above a little "Obama is sympathetic to" "Barack Hussein Obama" dog-whistling wink, wink..

"When any Jew anywhere is targeted, we must all respond as if we are all Jewish… we must all do what we can… we have a responsibility, and as president I will make sure the US is leading the fight against anti-Semitism," - Barack Hussein Obama

There's a reason both George Bush (to his credit) and Obama and both felt the need to speak out against asinine conflations. Ignore if you will but it's fact.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

There's a reason both George Bush (to his credit) ... felt the need to speak out against asinine conflations.

I am most definitely not a fan of Bush, but give credit where credit is due - he was much more tolerant and inclusive towards Muslims than any of the current batch of conservative clowns, I mean candidates, are.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I'm agreeing with you by the way - the tone of my comment may have sounded different

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

gcbel: No, of course Muslims aren't being lynched by the score in the streets but in reality there is a strong undercurrent of Islamophobia and resentment against Muslims in America today.

There certainly is an undercurrent of distrust of Muslims in the US. That is the terrible by-product of the atrocities committed by Islamofacists who share their religion. That is truly unfortunate. People who claim to be Muslim chant "death to America" on a daily basis, attack American cities killing thousands, target military installations in the US and abroad. The cable news cycle ensures that every jihadi killing from San Bernardino to New York to Fort Hood (and abroad) is reported in fine detail.

Knowing that the general public is the stated target of the jihadi's - is fear to be considered an unnatural human reaction? Of course not. The public knows that the same co-workers who celebrated with a baby shower for the San Bernardino Muslims were repayed with slaughter shortly thereafter. A more politically correct analogy would be to ask, Is the fear and distrust that some black Americans have towards the police legitimate? Every time that Obama and the Left dismisses the legitimate fears that people feel about Islamic extremism they lose credibility. Obama's selective outrage at white cops (the Other) is seen in contrast to his protective stance towards Muslims (a Leftist In group). All deserve respect yet he has no problem singling out the police for scrutiny while marking Islam as off limits to criticism. The logical and unfortunate result is millions supporting Trump. Obama built that.

Hate crimes against Muslims are 5 times more common today than before 9/11.

That is terrible of course. Part of that is due to 9/11 and the continuing Muslim inspired terrorist attacks since then and another part to the surge in the Muslim population over the last 15 years in America. That said, despite the situation Jews remain far and away the most persecuted religious group in America. Your apparent disdain for their plight is well, kind of intolerant.

And you can easily find such sentiment in posts in threads you yourself have posted on.

Yes I've seen them. It is sad to say but most come from those on the political Left.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That said, despite the situation Jews remain far and away the most persecuted religious group in America.

Really? Are there calls for bans of Jews to the US? Are there calls for registration of all Jews in America? Are people criticizing the president for talking to Jews?

Sorry, but while I don't disagree that Jews face antisemitism (my comments are not meant to take away from that in the least), I find it absurd to state that they are currently the most persecuted religious group in America.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry, but while I don't disagree that Jews face antisemitism (my comments are not meant to take away from that in the least), I find it absurd to state that they are currently the most persecuted religious group in America.

You can disagree all you want but that will not change the facts. Do yourself a favor. Go to the FBI's website and see for yourself. In 2014, 57% of anti-religious crimes were against Jews and only 16% were against Muslims. I know that many on the Left have an irrational dislike of Jews and will not want to think that this could be true. But the numbers are the numbers.

Numbers are always good. But, looking back at your original statement:

Jews remain far and away the most persecuted religious group in America

You were speaking of persecution, but the numbers you are providing are crime stats. While related, they aren't the same thing. Persecution goes beyond just anti-religious crimes. Anti-religious crimes against jews are going to be committed by a small group of people, whereas anti-Muslim sentiment is spreading throughout the general population like wildfire. No one is calling for a registration of jews in the US, or for jews to be banned from entering the country. Just reading this site alone you can see many people calling for exactly that. I would venture that the large majority people calling for that have probably not actually committed any anti-Muslim crime, but they are still persecuting the Muslims.

You are making a silly apples and oranges argument. There are no laws that persecute Muslims. There is a guy who shoots off his mouth and says offensive things - that's it. As usual the Left's many snowflakes confuse speech with persecution. The Constitution protects Muslims and everybody else from persecution, and guarantees free speech. People have different opinions and the freedom to express themselves. Get used to it.
