I think we should all write letters to Kim.

Actually, he meant to sent the letter to the North Pole, not North Korea! His aides made an error! Now Kim is going to be wondering why he should get his elves to construct Star Trek action figures, especially Spock, and carry them down the White House chimney in exchange for some milk and cookies!

The big question is, however, can Elvis in Pyongyang read? Perhaps the President would have been better off giving this assignment to his (younger) daughter. She could have whipped up some snazzy scrawls to get the message across.

Maybe President Obama heard that Kim was feeling a little ronery.

Man! The right-wingers are going to have a field day with this.

"said they fit with Bosworth’s general message" really? is Bosworth acting independently? No.

I know! Imagine a leader seeking dialogue and peace rather than simply threatening to bomb another sovereign nation into oblivion, or simply illegally invading it!

Anyway, my point is that they can have a field day with it if they choose, it won't change the fact that they would be wrong.

Yup.....A real field day.

Hey Smith Imagine that?

The letter to Mr. Kim is dated Dec. 1, administration officials said. Mr. Hill delivered it to his North Korean counterpart in Beijing on Wednesday. Within hours, North Korea announced that Mr. Kim had received the letter.

The White House letter is a huge reversal from the veritable cold war that has existed between Mr. Bush and Mr. Kim for most of the Bush administration.

Boosh wrote a letter also.

What is this letter writing? Sounds very 1994.

Why bother? North Korea's just going to keep ratcheting...

Unfortunately nobody can throw nuclear weapons on North Korea because it's so small that such an attack would hit at least 10 other neighbouring countries!

Dear Dear Leader,

This is Barack from the United States. I've heard that you scored over fifteen holes-in-one on your national golf course. My previous golf mentor, Tiger Woods, is unavailable, so I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on the game.

Thanks in advance,

Your Pal,

Barack Obama

Letter-writing is something bush never would have thought of.As usual, Barack is keeping it totally real.

What is this letter writing? Sounds very 1994.

You have to consider the audience. His audience is very 1964ish, technologically, with the exception of the rocketry tech, which we understand, keeps them pathetically relevant.

When you're a psychotic, megalomaniacal, absolute dictator with a weird hairdo, you appreciate having a pen pal all the more.

After few years this letter may fetch highest bid at world-auction (it was reported that Kim may not survive that long) and NK may become richer nation than Japan.

Kim has silver chopsticks, of course I gotta address him as 'his excellency'

Well, it's just too funny that the right-wingers here NEED to attack a leader who is seeking dialogue and peace rather than just threatening to bomb ANOTHER sovereign dicatatorship into oblivion, or simply illegally invading it!!!

Well, anyways, my point is that the right wingers CAN have a field day with this if they choose, but it won't change the fact that they would be wrong, because logic was never there strong suite, and they don't understand syllogisms even if they trip over them.

Dear leader,

If you want your plane back from Bangkok, sit down at the table, now!

Yours cordially,

The Big Leader

I think it's a great move and entirely, totally unexpected, which makes Kim reach for his Maalox, I am sure.

Kim likes the little gestures that mean so little to anyone else. Now he feels that he has a personal rapport with Obama, etc. It might even create rifts and unpredictable cracks in their negotiating facade. It might also mean that Obama will take the results of negotiations personally. It might also mean that there is a growing gap in what Kim will settle for and what his generals think they can get.

Anyway, Kim will have a lot of time to figure that out. As during the Cuban Missile Crisis, personal communications can make a huge difference in the way things are perceived and the way things play out.

Just suppose... what if Obama invites Kim to the White House? Now THAT would be something. Talk about taking the lid off of this whole situation. How could Kim refuse? Would his guards be able to handle the "truth" of WalMart? What would the generals back in NK think? That would make the world 100 times more interesting. You could even create a Jerry Springer moment by having the SK PM there to negotiate a peace treaty between the two countries. Just spring it on them. Certainly that is something only a president could do... and it would even remove the looming threat of Hilary..

I sure Kim Yong Il will be awed be the honor receiveing a letter from Barack Hussein. ROTLF!

Carter kind of did that back-room informal stuff during Camp David. You get Begin and Sadat in a room and stroke their egos a little. Get them to think about peace and its benefits, then give them some pens and let them go. If it works, it works, and if it doesn't, then they have to go home to their own countries thinking about the chance they might have missed. It can't hurt because it changes the game. At Camp David, Israel gives up some desert in exchange for not having to worry about Egypt anymore. Egypt gets a buffer zone and peace. It was such a no-brainer that they should have done the deal before Camp David, but Carter just forced the issue and boom.

These bold moves are the stuff of greatness.

"Letter-writing is something bush never would have thought of"

We can probably thank God for small favors. LBJ was the worst spelling president of the century (and he was a former school teacher!), but his grammar and rhetoric were ok. You can read a lot of his handwritten notes at the LBJ library in Austin. He certainly was not self-conscious and it did not hold him back. Nixon and Kennedy were exquisite writers. All indications are that GWB THINKS in fractured prose. Writing letters would have revealed way too much about him, and I don't mean in a good way.

"Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton also sent personal letters to Kim, .... "

Ooops. Well, this explains a lot.

"Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton also sent personal letters to Kim, .... "

Heck, even I got personal letters from them, (no joke!) So what?

Guess he couldn't e-mail with no electricity on the other end...

OK, so Obama prefers the carrot over the stick, which is well and good, except that the U.S. doesn't have any carrots to give to N. Korea. I guess Obama is going to borrow some more from China...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

" OK, so Obama prefers the carrot over the stick, "

LOL He doesn´t have a stick; not even a wet noodle. Only hot air and and fabled ego, which leaves Kim Yong Il holding his potbelly with laughter.

And as you correctly point out, he can´t afford a carrot either (even though having raised the debt limit by another whopping 2 trillions).

I'd rather just ignore lil Kim not send him letters. But if Obama bows to that bugger I'm gonna puke.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama appeases even the terrorist nation of North Korea. This oustounds moderates like myself, who look on in horror at his doomed foreign policies.

Not content with destroying all the good work done in Iraq and Afghan istan, he is now bowing down to Nort Korea who will use Obama`s weaknesses for political and financial gains. Mark my words folks, this is a dangerous precedent, be afraid, be very afraid!!

Dear Kim Merry Holidays. Dont worry, I am really your friend, even though I have to pretend for a while to be your enemy. I am going to Copenhagen on Friday to sign away my coun try@s constitution to the new World Communist Government, then I can come out of the closet and say who and what I really am. See you soon, buddy! Your friend Hussein

Should we be even more afraid than you are about man-made black holes? xD

USAFdude; Sir, i am more afraid of North Korea at this moment in time. Obama should not appease a tyrannical mass murderer like this.

The North Korean government are worse evil doers than Saddam and much more dangerous. DPRK needs to be liberated by a strong President not be busddies with fake promises.

Good luck, Obama, but from what I've seen from North Korea they'll most likely give you a positive response then pull out at the last miniute.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Dear Mr Kim, eat your carrots, or it will be the stick for you, Barack

A letter is as good as a bow.

Dear Leader,

I am in awe of your ability to brainwash your people. Just as in your country, my propaganda department -- the MSM -- works overtime to ensure my subjects get their daily in-your-face dose of me: on TV, in newspapers, on magazine covers, even during live sporting events it is made sure that I am mentioned by someone as part of the coverage. You taught me well.

I do hope you will invite me to your country someday. My bow to you will make the one I did to Japan's emperor look like a head nod.

xoxoxox

Barack

Dear Dear Leader,

This is Barack from the United States. Man I know what it is to be at the top. It's ronery. I understand what it is to be loved by an entire nation despite never having done any real good for it. That really messes up a guy. Hey maybe you could come round to the White House for some beer sometime, or I could come over to Pyongyang and bow to you at your great palace and we could hang out in your red velvet room watching hollywood movies. Need any dvds from the States? I could bring the newest in technology. Blu-Ray. I hope you have PlayStation or something similar. If not let me know. It's Christmas over here after all. I really think we could really really be best buds.

Thanks in advance,

Your Pal,

Barack Obama

The comment cited above proves that the Americans are avid to commit full genocide in North Korea. Guided by the American heritage, they do not have any intrinsic hindrances. However, they are frustrated by external obstacles.
