If Chicago gets it then it will be another accomplishment the Republicans can't try to take away from him. Once again, Republicans priorities first, country second.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

in other news, republicans complain about everything obama does because he's a democrat.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Usually, it's the lefties that complain and protest the excesses of the olympics. The GOP are whining because they have no ideas of their own, they got to borrow from their leftist friends.

The GOP are whining because they have no ideas of their own, they got to borrow from their leftist friends." You don't know how much sense that actually makes. Classic!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama can't do anything without someone (democrat or republican) complaining about it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I hear a lot of peope in Chicago don't want the Olympics.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sarge, I do. I still have a building there. Gonna turn the whole first floor into to something to make cash. I'll have to evict the tenets, but Chicago is not a tenet friendly city.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Usually, it's the lefties that complain and protest the excesses of the olympics."

Nope. You pulled that one out of your nether regions.

"Where is the focus?” . . . "The goal should be creating job opportunities not seven years from now, but job opportunities today."

Which is pretty much how the Republican recipe for American economics got us into this mess in the first place. Everything was about short-term goals, short-term profits, how to maximize profits for the next quarter, even at the expense of the company next year.

For the past 30 years, Republican-driven economic dogma has been exclusively about how much money they could make in one fell swoop TODAY! NOW! "We've all got Golden Parachutes even if the company tanks, so screw tomorrow!

If being pissy about the President of the United States working to bring the lucratic (and inspirational) Olympic games to the United States is the best use of time Republicans can find these days, then perhaps these critics should take a look in the mirror a bit more. Heal thyself, doctors. These now-daily gripe fests are getting as transparent as they are old.

"In other news, republicans complain about everything obama does because he's a democrat"

Everyday the same sh!t, boring. Like children fighting over a toy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

In fact, I hear that less than half of Chicagoans want the Olympics.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

LFR: hmmm, well, I want to make money now. I might not be alive tomorrow. Since my main business isn't doing too good in Japan, actually all over, what do you think I'm doing here every day? I'm trying to make a buck online as quickly as I can... Why do dislike that so much?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I still have a building there. Gonna turn the whole first floor into to something to make cash. I'll have to evict the tenets, but Chicago is not a tenet friendly city.

What, you are not making money with the tenets you now have?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Awwwww, poor Republicans. Boo hoo. Not playing. Never wanted those grapes anyway, they're sour.

“He’s taking a bunch of Chicago cronies on an all expense paid trip to Copenhagen for just one reason, to get the Olympics,” Feehery said. “For me it makes him seem unserious and look slightly desperate.”

I bet he muttered this in one long word, like Yosemite Sam.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Seems that the GOP is grasping at straws on this one. Also seems that there are people like Romney who are willing to take the high road and see the President's actions as a positive thing. On the other hand, there is pond life that just doesn't seem to get it.

Just out of interest, am I the only one who thinks that the US has been overly favored with Olympic Games over the last 25 years or so? I seem to remember at least two Winter Olympics (Lake Placid and Salt Lake), and also a couple of Summer Olympics (LA and Atlanta). Then again, I suppose this is because sport has little to do with the Olympics any more, it is all just big business and countries such as the US are the only ones who can cough up the money to put on these spectacles.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If he didn't go they'd be calling him un-American so he can't win either way.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Michael Steele should be grateful he has a job. He's only in the position he's in because the GOP wants to show that they like black people too. That Uncle Tom needs to shut his face and try to get his party in order. That being said, the murder rate in Chicago is going pretty nuts right now. I just saw a news article showing the murder rate in Chicago is 18 per 100,000 vs. 33 per 100,000 in Rio vs. 2 per 100,000 in Madrid vs. 1 per 100,000 in Tokyo. I wish Obama well, but I'm pulling for Tokyo in this one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"That Uncle Tom [Steele] needs to shut his face and try to get his party in order."

Like Martin Luther King's niece has pointed out the only blacks in America judged by "the content of their character" are the ones who dare to leave the plantation the Democrats moved them on to.

Ironic.

olympics create more jobs...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well Sarge those in Chicago not wanting the summer Olympics are probably using their heads for look at this crises presently & it will not fad away over-night.

Canada was suckered into the Winter Games & most do not realize this, but it will take us Cdns 25 or more years to pay the massive debt through Federal & Provincial Govt taxes.

["In other news, republicans complain about everything obama does because he's a democrat" Everyday the same sh!t, boring. Like children fighting over a toy.]

And you mean to tell me it wasn't that way when Bush was in power? Funny double standard you hold.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So Obama decided to go to pitch Chicago for the Olympics. I guess he could take more vacations and go...fishing. I guess he could....go play more golf.

But he's trying to get the Olympics to Chicago, USA.

He trying to draw the world to us. How many Americans can go to Madrid, Spain to see the Olympics? Many more can see it here.

It's just another case of republicans whining again. Somebody give them some cheese. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bushlover- it was exactly the same then, boring! No double standards here dude. Most politicians left/right are out for number one.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Gosh! Reading this makes Republicans seem really stupid.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Chicago isn't getting any love from anyone.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bgaudry: "Everyday the same sh!t, boring. Like children fighting over a toy."

No, it's like both the Republicans and Democrats have made a bunch of toys, but the Republican toys are the same old crap they've been making for years, while the Democrats made a shiny new one. They Republicans don't like the shiny new toy, so they complain about toy making in general (despite trying to make their own).... to use the analogy.

In short, as was said, the Republicans are simply whining because it's a Democrat doing it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

smithinjapan-- ha ha. Obama is the same crap in a different package. You'll catch on soon I hope.

CHANGE! I can't believe people bought into that. What exactly has changed?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

At a time of war

It always war for the US. If they waited until wars ended, they would be waiting for eternity.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Chicago is not a tenet friendly city.

Tenet? Huh????? Tenets occupying your building? Where are they from??

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Has the campaigner-in-chief spent one whole month in Washington since taking office last January?

Checking, checking ..... nope.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sept 16, 2009- Relying instead on First Lady Michelle Obama as Chicago's A-list advocate. "I would make the case in Copenhagen personally if I weren't so firmly committed to making real the promise of quality, affordable healthcare for every American," the president said on Sept. 16.

12 days later, not “so firmly committed” it seems.

Sept 28, 2009- The White House announced Monday that Obama would arrive in Copenhagen on Friday, just before Chicago makes its formal presentation to Olympics officials who are also considering Tokyo, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro. A decision is expected later that day, within hours of Obama's appearance

Yes sure, blame the Republicans for the dimwits shortcomings.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trivia question: How can those sour grapes loser Republicans tell when they are being sold a pack of lies by the chosen one?

Answer: His lips are moving.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

0bama shouldn't even be bothering with this. It's a job for his wife or Biden - better yet, Oprah; she was the original representative for the U.S., what happened with that?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If this were a president with an (R) behind his name shilling for the Olympics in an American city, the liberals would be screaming bloody murder about Afghanistan and Iran and everything else under the sun.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If Chi-town receives the nod, the torch carrier will probably get mugged on the way to the stadium.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

0bama on Sept. 16:

"I would make the case in Copenhagen personally if I weren't so firmly committed to making real the promise of quality, affordable healthcare for every American."

So, he's not as committed now?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And you mean to tell me it wasn't that way when Bush was in power?

LOL! You're right. Complaining about illegal invasions and losing civil liberties is EXACTLY the same as complaining about trying to win the Olympic bid.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Pimping for Chi-town to get the Olympics. Finally, a job that's not above 0bama's pay grade.

Moderator: Please lift the level of your contributions which currently are among the lowest on the discussion board. A good way to start would be to stop insulting Obama just for the sake of it. How about a more pertinent comment on the Olympics?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Moderator: Please lift the level of your contributions which currently are among the lowest on the discussion board. A good way to start would be to stop insulting Obama just for the sake of it. How about a more pertinent comment on the Olympics?

Well spoken. But how about just erasing this drivel?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

RomeoRamen - "Finally, a job that's not above 0bama's pay grade."

What a low comment that was.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bgaudry: "smithinjapan-- ha ha. Obama is the same crap in a different package. You'll catch on soon I hope."

Ummm... no. If you think the man is the same as his predecessor you have some serious problems. Some of the things he's said and choices he's made are the same or similar, either by circumstance (ie. rhetoric towards SOME other nations) or the fact of the matter that he cannot change what was given to him immediately (two wars, a broken economy, etc.).

"CHANGE! I can't believe people bought into that. What exactly has changed?"

A whole lot, actually, from international relations to domestic policy on terrorism, etc. The thing is, for other things to change you need to pass the laws to change them, first, and with Republicans whining about everything a Democrat puts forward it takes time to even get said laws/legislation passed. Once it does, then you will START to see change... but even that will take time.

All that's hard to believe is that if you 'bought into' the facts that things would change OVERNIGHT.

Anyway, weren't we talking about the Olympics? I think if Obama wants to go and pitch it for his nation that's a good thing.

RomeoRamen: How many posts is that for you on this thread now? What's so wrong with the president going to pitch a games that would get a lot of publicity and earn money for the country (and jobs)? You seem to be simply upset that it's Obama and not a Republican.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Less than 48 hours to get know host.

Obama/USA should get olympic games 2016. Look what happened when China hosted in 2008,so much protests problems from Tibetans/others.

USA as strongest nation in 2016,is and best equipped/ready place to host games,if protest problems/other woes crop up in today's high woes world.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

presto: Tenet? Huh????? Tenets occupying your building? Where are they from??" haha, you knew what I meant. Yes, I have occupiers of a small complex in the Greater Chicago area. Why do you want to know where they are from? I'm not putting up illegals and besides a landlord is not required to check proof of citizenship; I don't even think I'm allowed. But, I will have openings in the near future. I can knock down a few walls and make something, maybe a club or something. Are you against me getting in on the action? if every politician can get in on the action, and they will, I mean most of the Chicago's political elite own almost everything anyway, including the Obama's.. why can't I?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why do you want to know where they are from?

Just wondered where the doctrines were from (^0^)

Are you against me getting in on the action?

Oh, no. I hope you get the Games and wish you success!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hope he has better luck pitching this than he's had pitching his health care plan. His record on pitching things though isn't real impressive so far.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Isn't this rich! Yesterday in this forum the IOC was accused of being racist. Methinks it's the RNC that are the obvious bigots. Jimmy Carter was 100% right; some folks just can't deal with the fact that an African American is now The President of the United States.

Go Rio! Go!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sailwind: His pitching hasn't been to bad at all; it's been lack of acceptance based on the blatant lies told by those of RomeoRamen's ilk -- people who simply don't like Obama and don't want what he wants to pass to pass. Just look at the things RomeoRamen has said on this thread today alone. Nothing but bitter enmity and hatred, misdirected at a man who wants the Olympics to be held in his country.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The health care public option is voted down, pundits are saying because of a lack of presidential backing. Gitmo is still open. Afganistan is looking for more troops. Whatever. I don't know of any sitting president who made an international trip to support an olymic bid. If Obama doesn't focus on the health care debate he's going to loose control. If he hasn't already.

He could have sent Carter. Jimmy is always good for a laugh.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

republicans have nothing other than complaints. No ideas, no way forward. Nothing. They only have complaints.

They are the "terrible twos" child of the political process.

Taka

Let's also not forget that Obama friend and senior adviser Valerie Jarrett stands to gain financially from the Olympics should they come to Chicago. She owns property that sits on the proposed Olympic site and is also the vice chair of Chicago’s Olympics committee. Lot's of property sales and union contracts are the real reason behind this.

What would TV viewers around the world rather see: the surrounding beaches and where the world famous party 'Carnival' is held, or where street fights and murders take place in Chicago? My vote is for the girl from Ipanema.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah, he's probably doing it because it's in his own back yard. But so what? Getting the Olympics is good for the economy overall. We all benefit.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

SuperLib - "Getting the Olympics is good for the economy overall. We all benefit."

You clearly aren't up with what happened to the Olympic facilities in Beijing after the games there.

Usage of every facility besides the swimming pool is way down, if not non-existant. The birdcage only had 2 events booke this entire year last time I read.

Olympics are a short term boost to any city that then leave the winning citiesa and their taxpayers with a costly white elephant around their necks for decades to come.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Olympics are a short-term boost to any city that then leave the winning cities and their taxpayes with a costly white elephant around their necks for decades to come"

I wonder if that has anything to do with over half of the people in Chicago against having the 2016 Olympics there.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I was so proud and so happy when Obama dissed Gordon Brown and Angela Merkel and Sarkozy, but I worry that all the European weight on the Olympic Committee is gonna hurt his chances to win Chicago the Olympics.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

RomeoRamen: "What would TV viewers around the world rather see: the surrounding beaches and where the world famous party 'Carnival' is held, or where street fights and murders take place in Chicago? My vote is for the girl from Ipanema."

If you're for Rio, just say it. Most people are, I think. But you'll NEVER convince me that you're for Rio because you want them to win and not because you want Obama to lose. THAT is why the Republicans got so badly slaughtered in the last election, and why they will continue to be beaten until they grow up.

I want Rio to win because it would be an amazing party, and because SA has never held the games, whereas all of the other countries have.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I was so proud and so happy when Obama dissed Gordon Brown and Angela Merkel and Sarkozy...

Color me shocked that you would be proud of a negative act done by someone else.

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow, how low can the republicans go? Next if Obama supports flag day the just say no republicans will spin the American flag as communist as it has red in it.

Well, if Chicago wins then Obama can outsource the whole event back to China. That will make the nutty republicans happy as that is basically what they want to do with everything in America, outsource it.

Fun to watch the republicans slowly implode. The party with no ideas will soon be the party that does not exist.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Unfortunately, I think Republicans are gaining momentum because people are stupid. They also seem to have a selective memory.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yes, i think he could have sent someone else. he's go too much on his plate.

However, i do think there's more crazies out there protesting Obama then in all of Helmand province put together.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Can you imagine someone from the LDP, they are still around I think, jumping on Hatoyama for going and pushing for Tokyo? No, it would not happen. As backward as the LDP is, its has nothing on the lying liars and shallow fools who drive party policy on the just say no republican party.

Its always if America loses, they win. That is why they are rooting for Rio now. Amazing. They will not be happy until the USA is like Iraq, a failed state.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Do republicans ever do anything that doesn't involve complaining?

Since the mockery the bush administration made of America's highest office, it's high time the party disbanded or at least changed it's name much like a shipping company does after a sunken ship....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

can someone please tell us what Bush was doing at the 2008 olympics for which he spent 4 days. The last time i checked, he was tapping some nice girl's in bikini at the back. Did the wars in Iraq and Afg paused for him to make that trip? Or was the economy so good that he could afford to make that trip?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And compare that with Obama's 4 hours. Lets have honorable debate not just any debate

0 ( +0 / -0 )

While the GOP does have a point, the fact of the matter is, every other candidate city's country's president or leader was there. President Da Silva of Brazil, PM Hatoyama of Japan, and PM Zapatera of Spain all gave pitch speeches; why not the US President too?

Madverts, we could ask the same of the Democrats just one year ago....

McC72 - I distinctly remember Democrat opposition to President Bush's trip to Beijing. If I remember correctly, I believe the Honorable Speaker of the House had soem choice words for President Bush and his trip to Red China...

biglittleman - The Republicans are gaining momentum because the President and his Democrat colleagues on the hill cannot take a hint: the American People DO NOT WANT socialized medicine, which is what this plan by President Obama and his allies basically boils down to. The fact that he and they are trying to ram-rod this through congress and get it passed into law is the reason why the GOP is ganing momentum....not because people are stupid and have a short attention span or memory....and certainly having NOTHING t do with President O's trip to Copenhagen...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

actually he's not ramming it down everyones through. Not like bush did when he passed everything he wanted under the sun

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Chicago became a finalist for the Olympics, the 2016 Olympics on June the 4th of last year, while Bush was in the Oval Office. Hillary Clinton conceded the presidential race to Obama on June 7th. Is that when all of the anti-American sentiment really started, when Hillary dropped out? Because Bush was still in the White House. Also, all these people conveniently blaming it on Bush all forget that Chicago was named by the IOC as one of the four finalists on June 4th, 2008 while Bush was still president.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama spends the last nine months traveling the globe and trashing the United States of America to the international community. He then decides that all of a sudden this same United States of America is worthy to host the 2016 Olympics, so he goes back to the international community and begs them to pick USA as host. Then, when the USA is not chosen, it is now Mr. Bush's fault?

LOL.
