California leading the way yet again. Republicans, yet again, trying to stifle innovation because they are deathly afraid of progress. (Odd given they use smartphones, the internet, modern medicine, etc.)

President Donald Trump has pushed for months to weaken Obama-era mileage standards nationwide

A fundamental Trump policy: if President Obama was behind something, destroy it.

The side deal has irked Trump, who has chastised Ford in tweets.

Has any US president ever interfered in the operations of private businesses more than Trump? What's the name of the political/economic system where an authoritarian leader controls businesses? Is Trump copying Xi and Putin?

standard for fuel economy

Fuel economy: anathema to the global masters of big oil and their financiers. They want us to burn more oil to keep the demand up. And they want the wars that come with that increase in demand.

Waste of time.

Republicans: The states should have absolute control over their own affairs!

Also Republicans: We can't let California have absolute control over their own affairs!

Once again the moron crew contradicts themselves. Then they get angry when we point out just how deplorable that is, and complain about how we look down on them.

Maybe if they stopped being unethical morons, it would take away the reason for us calling them deplorables.

Yeah! I was on the 405 N. A few weeks ago as well as the 5, 10, 110, 710 all that innovation that California thinks it’s made is utter BS. Traffic has worsened that stupid bullet train they wanted which was a complete joke got scraped because it was way too costly and didn't make any sense whatsoever. All that innovation and still people are allowed to defecate on the streets, homeless problem getting out of hand, rising housing costs taxes unbearable, measles, (which was once eradicated in this country) hepatitis and typhoid outbreaks people running from that state as fast as they can and being replaced by low skilled and low wage immigrants all the innovation and they still can’t or won’t solve any of these problems. Progress, yup!

And another core Republican value gets tossed into the trash can....

From once being a champion of states rights and limited federal government, we now have the "new" Republican Party - the party of the Great Orange Moron...

Balanced budgets? Gone...

Free trade? Forget it....

Strong International Alliances? Hate them....

Now states rights....

These have all been replaced by only two; white supremacy and Russia adoration....

His administration has tried to ease or remove scores of environmental regulations that it regards as unnecessary and burdensome.

This has helped propel the booming economy.

@serranoThis has helped propel the booming economy.

From what I've read the economy continues growth started 8+ years ago.

But that doesn't factor in the negative externalities from Trump and the GOP's programs to increase the wealth of the wealthiest. By reducing environmental protections, expect to see an increase in pollution levels. Typically that means an increase in pollution-related health problems. (Yandex/Google that yourself). And because Trump and the GOP have a don'tcare attitude about health care, expect more people to have to pay more for health problems caused by increased levels of pollution.

A 'booming' economy requires greater resources and the environmental problems associated with their extraction. Plus even more burning of fossil fuels.

Always tradeoffs, but Trump says wealth trumps the environment.

Will Baron inherit enough of his daddy's money to afford the protections others in his generation will require to stay healthy?

When Arnie was the Governator he worked with politicos of both parties. He established the environmental standards that California enjoys today. He also advocated universal health care for the state before Obama became President. The GOP extremists didn't like his ideas and when it was revealed he fathered an illegitimate child they turned against him. He has criticized the Tangerine traitor. And now the GOP isn't so grand anymore.

Im in California right now and can easy say this is fake news.

Politics aside just how scientifically feasible is a yearly 5 percent increase in fuel efficiency perpetually?? I am neither an engineer nor a scientist, but on the surface, according to my knowledge, you just can't do it for very long before you start doing very dangerous things to meet that quota. I hate to say this but what we really need are legal limits on who can have a virtual tank on the roads.

STATES RIGHTS!!!!!!!!

Oh.....oops. That's only for right wing states resisting Democrat politics.

Silly rabbit.

Im in California right now and can easy say this is fake news.

I just left and I go 2-3 times a year. The only thing that is fake is the illusion that California doesn’t a have traffic, homeless and an exodus problem.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Angelenos probably already knew this - but it's now official: Los Angeles has the world's worst traffic.

A new report from analytics company INRIX states that Los Angeles has the worst gridlock -- for the sixth year in a row -- out of 1,361 cities in 38 countries.

Los Angeles topped the list of the world’s most gridlocked cities for the sixth straight year, with drivers spending 102 hours in congestion in 2017 during peak time periods, followed by Moscow and New York (tied at 91 hours), Sao Paulo (86 hours) and San Francisco (79 hours)

The study found that traffic congestion cost U.S. motorists nearly $305 billion in 2017, an average of $1,445 per driver. These sums reflect direct and indirect costs.

The U.S. accounted for 10 of the top 25 cities worldwide with the worst traffic congestion in the INRIX study.
