This wouldn't turn stomachs or raise too many eyebrows in many countries who execute people. Unfortunately, those countries tend to be theocracies run by crackpots, thuggish dictatorships or banana republics. The people of Ohio should take a long look at the company it has been keeping since 1999. While they continue to execute people, at least do it without gratifying the baser instincts of some who would no doubt like to see this kind of execution introduced as the norm.

Ohio could have asked the Army's chemical warfare division for the drugs needed to terminate him quicker though personall I believe it should have taken more suffering on his part to die the way he commited the murder.

It's hard to have sympathy for the suffering of a murderer, but surely the state should not be administering death in a way comparable to the way criminals kill their victims, should they?

Japan executes people and I don't think that description fits Japan. It may have been painful for him, but he did rape and kill someone. His family wants to sue, go ahead, as long as the settlement amount goes to the victims family.

The victim is still the one to be thought of here NOT the criminal. He needed to pay for his actions...He caused so much pain and agony to many people. Screw him. He got just a bit of what he deserved...I wish he would have suffered more.

Usually on this topic, I would agree you, but people like that never learn. He did the crime, he was sentenced and he paid the ultimate price. How about this, look at that murderer in Norway that shot up all those people, have you seen his prison?? That's another end of the extreme, but what else should we do with these people? Seems like our prisons around the world are getting more and more and more psycho people!

Oh, I think it is quite different. A 'pregnant newlywed' was 'raped and stabbed' at random, without having done anything to have deserved such a death. For it to have been no different this man would also have had to have been innocent and have been raped and stabbed with no foreknowledge that it was going to happen. I'm not a huge fan of the death penalty but presumably he knew that would be a possibility if he was caught after committing this crime in that state. Not only that but he tried to pin it on his brother-in-law first with no thought for the punishment that the brother-in-law might receive. 'Terror and agony'? He got off lightly in my opinion.

So being emotionally affected by a case because of you familiarity with the victim is a valid reason to accept/support capital punishment despite it's immoral and irrational nature? So in other words we execute criminals purely to provide the victims' family and friends with a sense of vengeance? Because that's all you're left with when you kill a person for committing a crime, any crime.

Not only did McGuire kill a 22 yr old female after raping her, he killed her unborn child as well. Then the cops were trying to pin the murder on the husband, so he committed suicide. This POS wiped out an entire family and people are worried that he had to suffer a little bit?

Personally, I'm more a fan of the Bolivian folk remedy for a rapist/murderer: bury him alive with his victim. A sure guarantee he won't do it again.

I'd like for you to say that to the relatives of the victim. Wait, her husband killed himself over his being suspected of doing the crime when in fact this killer did it. So you can't say that to him. But ,if it were an American soldier who shot some kid in a village during wartime, you would probably be the first in the pack calling for him to face a simiar demise.

Those of us against the DP are concerned about what the DP means for the rest of us. There are many in society who get a thrill out of barbaric executions. Those types tend to call for public hanging. We don't want to encourage those people or give them their jollies. When the state sanctions killing for wrongs, it encourages killing among the populace for wrongs they perceive. Its a really bad example. It generally makes light of killing. It ignores the fact that innocent people will get executed, people who could have been released from a sentence of life in prison. It ignores the fact that executions are not carried out evenly, but its minorities, poor people and those of diminished capacity who the state tends to murder in return for murder. And that encourages further discrimination.

Also it puts surviving friends and relatives (the less bloodthirsty among them anyway) in a position of reliving their pain, and seeing yet another person die. If anyone is going to feel sympathy for a killer, its them, particularly if they believe the killer is sorry and has changed, or has gotten the mental help he or she needed. (Come on, how many of these killers do you really think is completely sane?)

If anyone here feels sorry for this killer, then say so now and the argument can applied to them. I have been looking into the details of the case for two reasons. One was because I thought maybe he did not know she was pregnant, and two was because of the claim that her husband committed suicide for being a suspect in the crime.

What I found was that she was 8 months pregnant, so this vile creature knew.

And while I know that Kenny Stewart committed suicide before the trial, I cannot find a reason. I cannot rule out the reason stated though. In fact, what I did find did seem to tip-toe around facts that would show a reason of being a suspect, as if the authorities did not want to admit their screw up. For example, McGuire was arrested on an unrelated offense, but started talking about the murder. It does not say when, like if it was years or days after the murder. I did find that DNA evidence ruled out Kenny as a suspect, but that was in 1992. I cannot find when Kenny killed himself exactly.

On the other hand, McGuire tried to blame his brother in law (not Kenny). Might it be that that fact has been mixed up, and somebody thought it was Kenny being blamed? I don't know. Anybody?

You really think the death penalty prevents ny criminals from committing violent crimes like rape and murder, 99% of which are crimes of passion? Get a grip. It doesn't matter which countries employ capital punishment and which don't. Capital punishment is unethical and irrational on its own merits. A sense of false justice attained by survivors through vengeance is not a valid reason to commit state-sponsored murder.
