And one more study that confirms the unvaccinated are multiples of times more likely to be hospitalized and die from COVID - in this study 13 times more likely....

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/health/2022/01/11/covid-omicron-variant-pfizer-cases/9165512002/

From now on, just call it a pandemic of those that flunked basic math....

Check your facts.

Can't. From the very start of the article you posted:

This article is a preprint and has not been peer-reviewed [what does this mean?]. It reports new medical research that has yet to be evaluated and so should not be used to guide clinical practice.

Sorry kid. Try again.

People seem to forget that even with this "milder" version too many end up in hospitals and ICUs.

These goes especially for unvaccinated or partially vaccinated folks.

Mate, Please read the BBC articles, South Africa ended their peak and UK daily cases decreasing. Omicron will be the endemic.

Check your facts. According to data from UK, Germany and Denmark, Omicron affects the vaccinated MORE than the unvaccinated. Here is a link to a Danish studfy: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.12.20.21267966v2

....following the pattern in SA, as predicted. It burns rapidly through the population and leaves most with natural immunity. We should be done with this now.

Cool, let's assume this is true (which it isn't). What would be your words to the fathers, mothers, children, and lovers who have seen the most important person in their life die because you think that letting a preventable disease run wild is cool?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I no longer believe the media headlines about covid. I read them just for fun.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Maybe blah blah blah.

Bunch of cods whallup and shenanigans

Omicron heading toward rapid drop in UK and US?

Don't say that too quickly.

WHO is predicting the virus would be running wild across Europe soon, with number of infected rising sharply.

Therefore, avoid predict on any outcome of events that constitute lots of uncertainties..

We should be done with this now.

Again? That's good to hear, thanks Doc

The media and authoritarian politicians will surely be disappointed to hear that.

The media is going to hate to hear it?

You're gonna lose it when you find out where this story came from.

Cases shmases. The ongoing focus on cases is asinine. As less and less people are vulnerable (vaccine, natural immunity) this becomes and endemic annual virus. Like many have been saying since late 2020.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

And they have started sneak double vaxxed people into the “not vaccinated” category.

were unvaccinated or didn’t have a booster are sane category now.

https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/589162-us-sets-new-record-for-covid-19-hospitalizations

Carlos del Rio, an infectious disease doctor at Emory University and at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, said last week that 80 to 90 percent of the patients primarily in the hospital for COVID-19 were unvaccinated, or in some cases had two shots of vaccine (without a booster) and had an underlying condition.

“80 to 90%” isn’t data. It’s a guess.

But will Omicron be the last variant to immigrate into the UK from other unvaccinated populations? Not to worry, though, 'cos Bozza's going to reassure the nation he's working on his almost oven-ready "Plan Z".

1 ( +2 / -1 )

These folks better hope so because this is becoming a daily occurrence....

A well-known conservative activist in Arlington, Texas, who peddled COVID-19 vaccine misinformation has died of complications caused by the virus—just a few weeks after attending a “symposium” against the shots.  The Arlington Republican Party confirmed the passing of Kelly Canon on Facebook.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/conservative-activist-dies-covid-complications-160815615.html

It's not only becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated but a pandemic of the conservative, anti-vax, misinformation spreaders...

May be, could be! They have no idea what's going to happen.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

And just as omicron fades flurona and IHU are waiting in the wings to heap more misery onto us

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

as soon as COVID starting hurting a certain politician really badly, it seems the media suddenly got super positive that its not so bad anymore.

We now hear that not every COVID case is actually COVID after all, some of those were just the flu!

75% of people who died from COVID were sick with something else too, most had 4 or more comorbidities!

Kids are not really infected they just had a positive test when they went to the hospital for a broken leg!

COVID is not that bad and never was (well since mid-Jan 2021 anyway)

Except for politics when the Supreme Court justice falsely claimed we need a vaccine mandate because 100,000 kids are sick with COVID and most on ventilators.

There is also a possibility that a meteor will struck the earth, there is also a possibility that I win the lottery, there is also the possibility that the fear mongering about Corona will stop (but this possibility is very less)...there is always a possibility for everything.

One of those three things is far more likely than the other two. Yes, it’s the one you claimed was the least possible.

But as far as ‘fear mongering’, which is worse; this headline or talking about meteors?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

but there is also the possibility of a new variant

but there is also the possibility of a new variant — one that is far worse than omicron — arising.

The words no one wants to hear!

That's one plausible future, she said, but there is also the possibility of a new variant — one that is far worse than omicron — arising.

Yikes!

Best news of this year so far. Time to move on and live our lives normally again.

Which most of us should have been able to do quite a while back. But instead the US had such poor leadership when the virus began attacking Americans, some 'leaders' among them even saying the virus might be a hoax, telling political followers that they could inject a disinfectant. While other followers of their favorite politician used social media to scare many of their fellow poorly educated Americans into thinking all they need to do is take cold showers, take Vitamin D, Zinc, or whichever other supplement, or take some meds created for farm animals, or follow some other crackpot advice they might have read in advertisements posted on their favorite far right website, or heard from their Evangelical pastor, who was vehemently anti-science.

It is unfortunate so many Americans followed the advice of some intellectually limited politician or some wack pastor from a fringe sect of the church of the blinding light or another equally crackpot sect, instead of listening to advice given by the majority of doctors and medical scientists around the world.

Businesses and individuals have suffered far more than they should have because of the far right's pushing of disinformation in their attempts to further divide populations in democracies. Given China and Russia's authoritarian regimes have such control over media and information, it's nearly impossible to know how the Chinese and Russian peoples have fared using their state's vaccines and treatments.

Scientists are seeing signals that COVID-19′s alarming Omicron wave may have peaked in Britain and is about to do the same in the U.S., at which point cases may start dropping off dramatically.

Fear mongering media! Why don’t they say cases ‘may not’ start dropping drastically?

Oh, wait…

Natural immunity has now been received, case closed, move on!

Not even close.

The University of Washington's own highly influential model says the number of daily reported cases in the U.S. will crest at 1.2 million by Jan 19

US breaks record the other day with 1.13 million a day per Reuters so it may be higher.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

1.2 million cases a day. Of course case gonna drop soon after such a amount. At this rate US won't even have enough people to get infected soon. But is still sad news that so many people had died in the US due to the the virus. Even now they still have over a thousand daily deaths. I wonder how they ever gonna recover from all of this. Not to mention they have been hit pretty hard recently from all kind of disasters.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Omicron isn’t over, unless I’m hallucinating all those seriously ill covid patients at my workplace. Most unvaccinated, all will spend months recovering, if they do recover.

-1 ( +14 / -15 )

seeing signals that COVID-19′s alarming Omicron wave may have peaked in Britain and is about to do the same in the U.S.,

And that will happen without the third booster.

That Is really cool and proves that a booster is not really necessary.

In South Africa they just have a 27% vaccination rate, and Omicron drops drastically. Without increasing the vaccination rate.

It is very nice to see that!

Japan might be slow on to catch omicron peak despite all control, it will follow that in the end.
