It might be true, but firstly there is no way to verify "worldwide" figures, and secondly "worldwide" is a meaningless concept, as there are very different societies in the world.

I agree that cross cultural studies can be a challenge but it has more to do with data collection and yes some questions about accuracy. But regardless of different societies, none culturally accept rape or sexual assault. They're universally abhorred and are crimes. Or are you saying that some women in some societies lie or make more false accusations than other societies? If anything some societies certainly try to silence them.

And yet the Republican Party's 2024 candidate for President of the U.S, is a convicted sexual abuser. And half the country support him.

[o]ne in every eight worldwide, experienced rape or sexual assault before the age of 18, the United Nations children's agency said on Wednesday.

It's hard to believe. I am skeptical.

.

No it is not hard to believe.

I know several who has suffered sexual abuse.

As a child they did not know it was wrong till they reached an age where they understood that what was done to them was wrong.

That monster is dead now.

Sadly he only suffered a slow death over a year or two, as his lungs slowly stopped working.

He spent his last years in prison and from what i heard, it was not pleasant.

There were nightly visits, just to make sure he was alive.

From the article:

More than 370 million girls and women alive today, or one in every eight worldwide, experienced rape or sexual assault before the age of 18... The report said that while girls and women were worst affected, 240 to 310 million boys and men, or around 1 in 11, have experienced rape or sexual assault during childhood.

I am glad to hear that we have a more balanced reporting about abuse that doesn't only consider the suffering of females.

So why doesn't the title of the article reflect this?

Because, although the contents of the article addresses both male and female victims of sexual assault, to some, the suffering of females victims should always be the focus. But fret not, even though it is supposedly "a man's world," such is how it will always be. No matter the society, women will always have more importance than men because they are the only ones who can give birth (apologies to all the trans-"men" who can also give birth). So you're going to have to learn sooner better than later the suffering of men will always take second place to women in this "man's world."

One in eight girls and women raped or sexually assaulted before age 18, UNICEF says

Based on 2023 numbers, it works out to more like 1 in 11 girls / women.

But it also means 1 in 13 boys / men.

So why doesn't the title of the article reflect this? Is it a deliberate oversight or simply a lack of awareness about the broader impact of sexual violence on both genders?

Moonraker Oct. 10 03:27 pm JST:

And, sadly, this is but one trauma we [=presumably, women] may have suffered in addition to physical, mental and emotional abuse.

Understanding that men expressing themselves in an abusive manner more physically than mentally or emotionally, I am curious to know what the statistics are for women mentally or emotionally abusing their men apart from physical abuse. Could someone point me to the statistics which show the percentage of men who are mentally or emotionally abuse by women? I will wait...

And, sadly, this is but one trauma we may have suffered in addition to physical, mental and emotional abuse. We could be so much better if we could stop the cycle of abuse. But our way of life seems dependent upon traumatised people and, at best, either offers a band aid or actively exploits them.

And what percentage in eastern Asia

My bad, this should read, "And what percentage in Japan?"

This will not sit well with Japanophiles (and I consider myself one of them), but it is sadly likely higher in Japan (and similar cultures) since speaking up is much more difficult, almost impossible, compared to most other developed countries.

Sexual assault (chikan) is particularly high in Japan, so it's not a stretch to draw conclusions from that.

Well, Africans have always gone without panties and bras. And they really like to show off.
