It looks like Japan is somewhere between pink and red. Hopefully Japan won’t swing too far to the right or left, but, as my mother used to always say, you never know.

You have a lot of ignorant people, spouting nonsense, good too know who they are, like say talk is not cheap, and some learn

Reporters Without Borders said democratic societies are increasingly fractured by social media spreading disinformation and more opinion media pursuing a so-called "Fox News model", referring to the controversial right-wing television network in the United States.

I wonder how Japan with its one party LDP rule and prostrate press fit into this model?

The Japanese press and Press Club will cover minor peccadilloes of the powerful but no organization pursues the endemic corruption as described in Alex Kerr's "Dogs and Demons".

Japan is a country where a hundred yen theft from a supermarket will see the unfortunate imprisoned.

However, when do LDP members ever get investigated by police here, charged and then incarcerated?

Authoritarian governments have used disinformation and censorship against their own citizens for decades if not centuries....

What we have now are these authoritarian governments weaponizing their disinformation for external audiences, primarily in Western democracies, and finding willing conspirators to their lies in far-right media corporations...who put aside their commitment to democracy and freedom in the name of the almighty dollar...

It's no coincidence Tucker Carlson is the favorite of the Kremlin or that far-right sites parrot the Kremlin's spin on everything...

The Fifth Column in the war against democracy and freedom is as close as your Fox News channel...

There is certainly cause for alarm at the platform given to paranoia, lies and hate by today's computer tech, but let's not forget that before the advent of online media all the propaganda, lies and gaslighting were the exclusive domain of government and their lick-spittle lackeys controlling the press and TV, which by grooming and massaging public opinion and manipulating the minds of the masses, enabled the ruling elites to enjoy a good night's sleep. The situation today has become much messier and even perilous from the viewpoint of those who wield political power so much so that already we see unmistakable signs of discomfort and unease at the top as the increasingly sleep-deprived ruling classes of the world are everywhere being tempted and are indeed attempting to reconfigure their slipping hold on the power nexus and grasp at bigger soporific doses of right-wing authoritarianism to put democracy to bed so they can get a better night's sleep.

In the west they are better at hiding the lies and vested interests with the Orwellian tongue and hiding behind the vail of democracy.

As long as lies are allowed without penalties, there will always be a group of people who can be taken in by conspiracy theories, like the birds aren't real. Birds were slowly replaced by the CIA with small drones to be used to monitor people world-wide. They sit on power lines to recharge. They don't let people get too close, so they aren't found out to be machines. A few birds, usually caged birds remain, but all the rest are surveillance tools. https://birdsarentreal.com/ They tried to buy an ad on mainstream TV, but were denied access. Clearly, the USGovt is being secretive about all their birds. BTW, this theory is 100% fake and just trying to point out the ludicrousness of other conspiracy theories often seen on the internet.

In Russia, independent news organizations were slowly taken over by friends of Putin, usually using bogus legal charges, incarceration of the leaders, and then forced sales to a Putin lackey. This happened to MTV-Russia after they made jokes about Putin nightly.

Any news organization found to be lying without good faith corrections should have their licenses taken away. Sure, CNN gets the facts wrong from time to time, but they correct it. Some other 'news' organizations use very careful terms - by reporting what other people said which are lies, but because they report what was said, it is that statement is 100% true. Giving liars a platform is the problem. Fox is basically a gossip organization at this point.

The airwaves and internet "news" organizations need to be held to a higher level - for the common good and truth. Nothing more and nothing less.

In essence, he insults the viewers of the most watched news program in America.

Because you'd be better off not watching news at all than watching Fox news. Fox News isn't news it's garbage propaganda, at least the top shows on Fox certainly are.

Online media fueling divisions, global tensions :

Mad online content has been propagating fake info that amplified internal political divisions & fanned international conflicts.

This is the worst, somewhat unexpected, outcome of internet meant for free global connections.

Next..?

The whole George Orwell novel is coming to life.

Pretty soon there will be no freedom of speech or thoughts.

Just a bunch of censored vaccinated sheeple on a GMO diet.

I remember the good ol days before the internet.

Fox, MSNBC, CNN, BBC, CBC etc are all as bad as each other. Agendas nix facts any day of the week at these organisations.

The key point to remember is that nobody has a monopoly on the truth. Not any media organisation, no government or corporation or NGO or you or me.
