That sounds like a threat.

JJE - I agree.
Trump threatening to impose huge tariffs "if you don't do what I want, when and how I want" is right out there.

Sorry I feel this way but I hope this really happens.
No starker way to show the American public what a fool they've put into the White House.

Trump cutting his nose off to spite his face. Not well thought out is it?

That sounds like a threat.
Not so much fun when they fight back, is it?
Some dude

Well, if it does come down to this, it will be interesting to see who blinks first.
Let's for a moment take the MAGA people who would choose to freeze to death than admit that Trump was wrong, and focus on the rest of the country.
This always reminds me of when Norway announced that they were going to give the Nobel Peace Prize to the Dalai Lama. Beijing made a huge noise about cutting diplomatic and trade ties with Norway. Norway - 30 times smaller than China - basically said "OK. Go ahead". China did nothing.
In this case, it's unclear who's Norway and who's China, but someone's going to blink.

It’s simple. Canada, desist…or at least show an effort in limiting your exporting of illegal persons and drugs to the States, and this becomes a non-issue.

It’s simple. Canada, never desist…Ontario fight back ! That’s could be a good way to show to Europe how to answer to the threat of Trump.

Under agreements Canada cannot cut oil, gas, electricity or even the export of water. (Yes water, surprisingly the USA gets a very large portion of it's "spring water" from Canada.
But if Trump does as he threatened, that is a clear violation of trade agreements and he once ripped up an agreement unilaterally.
So Canada is well within its right to rip up these agreements regarding oil, gas electricity and water.
Sure it will cost Canada a lot of money, but lets see how long the North East USA and western states last when the power is but suddenly and oil and gas is cut overnight.
February sounds like a nice time to cut power and oil.

Ok as soon as the USA stops the illegal export of guns and gangs into Canada!
Nearly 100% if all illegal handguns in Canada (which means 99% of all handguns) are from the USA, same for most illegal other guns including AR15s etc...and most are from and going USA based criminal gangs.
So you stop these things and Canada will stop the other things.

Maybe Trump can get energy and supplies from his buddy Putin.

The US and Canada have the NAFTA agreement and some others. That does not bother Trump.

i don’t believe trump will put 25% tariffs across the board on canadian products, including oil and electricity.
i don’t think anyone is that stupid.
american oil companies will be cutting domestic drilling in 2025. chevron already announced it. they don’t need more oil, and much of the domestic oil isn’t used for gasoline. u.s. refineries aren’t setup to use it. they’re setup to use heavier, high sulphur oil. much of the domestic oil is refined for other products and exported.
the “drill baby drill” campaign talk won’t reduce gasoline prices at the pump at all. the oil companies smiled and supported him because they wanted the tax cuts he’s going to give them.
hoodwinking the voter is how you win elections. the average voter knows nothing about the oil and gas industry and the food industry. they thought they’re going to get lower gas prices and cheaper groceries. that ain’t going to happen.
he’s just acting for u.s. domestic media consumption.
he’ll say that he’s satisfied with progress by both canada and mexico and pat himself on the back. everything is about the media show.
again, i don’t think anyone can be that stupid. but he did say we should shine a powerful light into the lungs and bleach in the lungs to treat covid…

Must is certainly correct in his estimation of Trudeau being insufferable.
The things Trump is demanding from Canada are the same things Canadians want; a crackdown on drug labs and distribution, stopping allowing fake refugees into the country, many of which cross into the US and 2% of GDP spent on defence. Those are all reasonable asks.

This approach from Alberta is much better than the stench of panic emanating from Ottawa and Doug Ford.

You go, Canada. Trump doesn't learn unless things are shoved in his face. Sometimes not even then.
bass4funk
He won't have to, Justin came last week to kiss the ring, and Canada is not THAT foolish to piss Trump off, especially since they are so dependent on us, like Mexico, both countries have no clout for any threats. Lol

@TaiwanIsNotChina
Go where, further into poverty?
The incoming President gave advance notice to Canada to make some improvements, that also benefit Canadians, with enough time for the insufferable tool to take some action but instead he chose to insult Americans for not electing a female.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Canada is a sovereign country and King Trump will learn as many times as necessary he doesn't get to make insane threats to anybody.
proxy
@TaiwanIsNotChina
Go back to Taiwan and leave Canada alone; don't drag that country into poverty.
The US is Canada's greatest ally and Trump's demands are far, very far from insane. The only Insanity is coming from Trudeau and Ford.
TaiwanIsNotChina
I literally am not directing Canada to do anything. Trump is the one making demands.
Demanding fentanyl from Canada end when that is not the primary source is insane. So is flipping over tables when you already have a trade agreement you negotiated.
onedragon
Canada........What a joke, well I guess no more VERMONT maple syrup for you.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Their oil is not a joke.
