So why did the knucklehead live in the West?

So why did the knucklehead live in the West?

He was born there.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

"The real muslims will never accept the filthy ways of the west"

I think you'll find murdering scores of innocent people with a military grade weapon is about as filthy as it gets, sunshine.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

It's typical. He hates the west, but lives there. It would be easy enough to buy a one way ticket to Islamabad if he chose. Can't trade his iPhone for a camel.

Reminds me of people who call to radio shows saying"I hate your show!". If they hate it so much, why are they listening? Sounds like a bit of masochism to me.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

How would any sort of screening at that time found that people from an allied nation without a history of troubles

You're right. No screening would've worked. But we know now. This is why the liberal legislation allowing them in now should be reversed.

They're better off in the ME.

-13 ( +3 / -16 )

So a weak-minded scumbag desperately trying to hide his wide stance in the bathroom was an easy recruit for the Daesh death cult.

Only a pea-brain can deny the stricter gun control would have prevented this tragedy from happening. Even Trump gets it.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

I'm sure that gun controls would reduce the number of mass shootings overall, but whether they would have prevented this attack is impossible to say. The French have fairly strict gun controls, but that didn't stop lunatics killing hundreds in Paris.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

The guns used in Paris came from Eastern Europe. Illegally I might add. Probably left over from the conflicts of the early nineties. Actually the gun laws here in France are pretty liberal for hunting, but for sure we aren't allowed to own assault type rifles and for obvious reasons. They belong on the battlefield, not in public places in the hands of maniacs. The families should be allowed to pursue legal action against the NRA and the Republican party for their refusal to be sane each and every massacre.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

these "home grown" terrorists never seem to want to live in their islamic dream countries.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Oh the irony! The bloke blames 'the filthy ways of the west' yet posts on facebook, take selfies and uses search engines minutes before dying!

Westernised pseudo jihadists at their best/worse.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

One phrase that I hope I never have to hear again..... "moment of silence for the victims of this tragic act of violence."

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Attilathehungry, re "Islamabad". His father and family came from Afghanistan, not Pakistan.

If he was gay, as the press is suggesting, then he must have loathed something inside himself but externalized the hatred. When during the Hajj Muslims throw stones at the jamarat in Mecca, they symbolize jihad against the devil, the internal enemy, our darker nature.

This all-too-common mistaking of targets is extremely dangerous for all around. We need more Mullahs educating people, not stirring them to emotional action.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

repressed homosexuality is rife among muslims.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

repressed homosexuality is rife among muslims.

And every other religion. And non religion. Muslims certainly have no monopoly on either horrific treatment of gays or latent homosexuality. It's just one more argument for accepting gays openly in society and stopping the hate and intolerance. It's bad enough seeing out-spoken gay hating politicians and religious leaders that turn out to have a secretly Wide Stance in the mens room, let alone a maniac like this one going at such homicidal lengths to suppress his urges....

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I'd have to say the amount of repression among gay people in other cultures and religeons would be at least a little less given that islam is the only, at least major, religeon that still ( and for the far-forseeable future) executes homosexuals.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

"Only a pea-brain can deny the stricter gun control would have prevented this tragedy from happening."

Um, no. The guns used in Paris, Brussels and Mumbai were worse: fully automatic and also the arsenals owned by the attackers were far larger, including explosives.

People need to focus more on the attackers who are conducting the same kind of "soft target" attacks against non-Muslim communities around the world and the religious ideology that inspires them.

US gun control is good, but dont let that issue completely blind you to the much bigger picture.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

given that islam is the only, at least major, religeon that still ( and for the far-forseeable future) executes homosexuals.

Christian Uganda also has the death penalty for homosexuals, IIRC. But it's still a bigger problem in the Islamosphere.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

JeffLeeJUN. 16, 2016 - 05:18PM JST Um, no. The guns used in Paris, Brussels and Mumbai were worse: fully automatic and also the arsenals owned by the attackers were far larger, including explosives.

As I already said, all illegally bought on the black market, unlike this instance where a known terrorist sympathizer on a freaking FBI watch list could still legally purchase at the gun store of his choice. You haven't a leg to stand on. Semi-automatic assault style rifles should be banned.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

So why did the knucklehead live in the West?

Ideology is not limited by boundaries and borders, and for an ideology that is as inclusive as Islam this especially true. Islam doesn't care what color you are or what language you speak, if you obey the word of god as revealed by his one true prophet, then you're in.

The particular flavor of Islam that is practiced by Islamic State is rooted in a Takfiri ideology that holds that anyone that doesn't follow their version of Islam is an affront to god and is to be converted, enslaved or killed. That includes other Muslims.

They see the whole world as the rightful domain of a global caliphate ruled by the word of their god, as they interpret it. And they see everyone that does not adhere to their beliefs as an unbeliever and worthy of slaughter. They perceive this as a global mission and have shown their commitment to punish corruption where ever they perceive it.

So why not live in the west? They see the whole of western society as corrupt so there is plenty of potential good work available for the aspiring Jihadi.

With all the information coming out I get the feeling that there is more to this story than just radical Islam. It looks like the Muslim angle is (with a nod to strangerland) coincidental.

While Mrs. Bill Clinton called out some of the Middle Eastern nations with strict anti-gay laws a few days ago, she didn’t really press her criticism of them, and quickly switched the subject to gun control.

Reason being is her Clinton Family Foundation has received tens of millions of dollars in donations from several Middle Eastern nations that treat members of the LGBT community with less than liberal tolerance that she claims to stand for.

The Foundation has taken in somewhere between $10-25 million in donations from Saudi Arabia, a nation that has outlawed homosexuality and punishes the “crime” of being gay with chemical castration, torture, imprisonment and death

Kuwait, which has donated roughly $5-10 million to the Clinton Foundation, prosecutes homosexuals under a “debauchery” law that can send them to prison for up to six years.

Qatar has donated $1-5 million to the Foundation, and it punishes homosexuals with imprisonment or death.

The same holds true for the United Arab Emirates and Brunei, both of which execute homosexuals and both of which have donated $1-5 million to the Clinton Foundation.

Slightly less severe is Oman, which routinely imprisons homosexuals for up to three years. It also donated to Clinton in the $1-5 million.

Finally, there is Algeria, which gifted the Clinton’s with a quarter to half a million dollars in donations while imprisoning and fining any homosexuals that government officials there can catch.

Mrs. Clinton's stance on being a beacon of support for the LGBT community while at the same time is accepting millions in donations from countries that routinely abuses, imprisons and kills gays simply because of their lifestyle choices is a textbook example of hypocrisy. . . .

How good it is to see you promoting and defending gay rights there Aggie old boy. Our very own JT transgender champion. I'm so proud of you!

Funny how we never hear of christians (or jews, or hindus, etc) going on murderous rampages in middle eastern countries in the name of their religeon.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

"Funny how we never hear of christians (or jews, or hindus, etc) going on murderous rampages in middle eastern countries in the name of their religion"

Didn't Bush believe his god wanted him to invade Iraq?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

OutriderJUN. 16, 2016 - 06:31PM JST Funny how we never hear of christians (or jews, or hindus, etc) going on murderous rampages in middle eastern countries in the name of their religeon.

Why look abroad? A Christian fundie recently went on a shooting rampage at an abortion clinic in the US. I believe he also used the ubiquitous AR-15.

The problem is hate and intolerance. Be it fueled by 7th century religious texts or by the Republican party and right-wing hate radio. It's time to wake up....

3 ( +5 / -2 )

It's interesting that people say 'but they had guns in Paris' as if one incident in Paris is equal to a thousand in the USA. If guns were so easy to get in Europe, and if Muslims are such a problem in Europe, as people seem to be suggesting, then why don't they see the same levels of gun massacres as the US does?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

If guns were so easy to get in Europe, and if Muslims are such a problem in Europe, as people seem to be suggesting, then why don't they see the same levels of gun massacres as the US does?

A freak such as this would have drawn attention to himself trying to buy an assault rifle on the black market. The 'but they had guns in Paris' is a pea-brained argument. More people will die in the US from gun violence this month than everybody murdered in the Orlando massacre. The NRA and the Republican party must be held accountable.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

@Madverts

If banning doesn't work, what is the benefit of banning them.. Empty gestures are just that, empty.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

“The real muslims will never accept the filthy ways of the west,” Mateen wrote,

That statement just destroyed the U.S. liberals' narrative about the reason behind what happened in Orlando.

Whether one wants to believe that he Is blinded by liberal political correctness, there is no denying the fact that radical Islamic terrorism has seen an incredible increase (91 dead Americans here on U.S. soil so far and counting; this ISIS-enabler administration still has 217 days left in office) during the course of Obama’s time in office.

And Mrs. Bill Clinton is telling American registered independent voters like me that she wants my vote to ensure a leadership that guarantees more of the same. . . .

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

Apart from some loud, now trending sloganeering for the LGBT community, with a Hillary presidency the bankers and bilionaires will have gotten what they paid for: status quo upheld.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

There will be more. This is a never ending story now.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The problem is getting the American right on board with smart measures to combat terrorism. An American born commits terrorism so they try to ban foreign born Muslims. Surveillance of mosques has been shown to be a complete waste of resources so they call for surveillance of mosques again. A wall wouldn't have stopped any of them so they propose building a wall.

After attacks like this it takes an incredible amount and time and energy stopping the paranoid right from passing a lot of ineffective, emotionally charged policies. It's exhausting sometimes. Add in the hints of Obama supporting terrorism and debates over the proper ways to name terrorism and the whole thing turns into a complete waste of time.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

If banning doesn't work, what is the benefit of banning them.. Empty gestures are just that, empty.

And do you extend this argument to building a wall along the border as well, since it won't keep out all the illegal immigrants, and is therefore an empty gesture?

1 ( +4 / -3 )

This man was mentally unstable, it appears and had trouble dealing with his true sexuality. His Islamic background may have been the trigger for his actions, but it seems to me that ultimately he was just another American nut-job who goes on a slaughter of innocents when his feeble mind can't cope any more.

I do not think that this is first and foremost Islamic terror, in the way that it was in California, although it cannot be discounted as a factor.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

The issue is terrorism, not gun control. There is no gun law short of confiscation that would make any discernable impact.

Banning semi-automatic weapons is ludicrous- most weapons ARE semi-automatic. Ban assault rifles? They are already banned. The ones sold to non-military people are a far cry from military grade weapons. Besides, rifles of ALL kinds (including "assault style" ones) account for only a small number of murders in the US. Less than 2% if I recall correctly. More people are killed with knives, or even with bare hands, than with rifles.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

If guns were so easy to get in Europe, . . . .then why don't they see the same levels of gun massacres as the US does?

Because U.S. registered democrats don't reside over there in Europe.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Apart from some loud, now trending sloganeering for the LGBT community, with a Hillary presidency the bankers and bilionaires will have gotten what they paid for: status quo upheld.

You say that as if it's a bad thing. Considering the strength of the stock market, the price of oil, the jobless rate, the amount of people with health insurance, and the fact that LGBT can now marry each other, it would seem that the only people who don't want the status quo are those who would prefer to regress to more 'white' times.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

...or you could look at the record national debt ($17 trillion and climbing, with NO plan to pay it off), record low participation in the workforce (many able bodied people have given up looking for work), disastrous policy in the Middle East, continuous rise in the number of people on public assistance such as food stamps, record number on disability benefits...

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

He was born in USA the same city Trump was born. Anyone born in USA are natural born citizen. One of hisparent might be immigrant but that has nothing to do with citizenship.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

A massacre by one of the U.S. Liberals' worst nightmare: a non-white, non-NRA member, gay Muslim jihadi; and the Obama-approved Mrs. Bill Clinton still wants to disarmed all Americans and leave us defenseless while at the same time allow thousands of Middle East "refugees" into our country.

Good luck to Mrs. Clinton in November. She'll need it. . . .

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Mrs. Bill Clinton still wants to disarmed all Americans

No she doesn't. Is that what they are telling you in the bubble these days? Maybe you should try watching news that isn't fabricated.

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

Of COURSE he did, just waiting for the right moment:

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The killer's rampage left 49 people dead was able to buy military grade assault weapons with no waiting period.

He simply was able to walk into a gun shop and buy a weapon of mass destruction with no limit on magazine capacity.

This was made possible by the friends and paid Legislators of the NRA.

These are facts.

That the murderer was deranged also presented no limit to his purchase of assault weapons.

That the murderer imagined he was some avenging angel of death sent by ISIS only proved his derangement.

The killers rampage left 49 people dead and over one hundred shot.

The only reason is the Republican Congress, under orders from the NRA, forced the repealed the prohibition of assault weapons sales in 2004.

for the international reader: The Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) — is a subsection of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, a United States federal law that included a prohibition on the manufacture for civilian use of certain semi-automatic firearms it defined as assault weapons, as well as certain ammunition magazines it defined as "large capacity."

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Despite his professed loyalty to the extremist group, the Obama administration has said it has seen no evidence that the shooting rampage was directed by the Islamic State.

That's like saying there is no evidence that Dylan Roof was directed by the Skinheads - it is irrelevant. Mateen was influenced by ISIS and even stated that directly. Why should we not believe him? Also, just because Obama cannot find a video of Mateen and an ISIS leader discussing the plot with diagrams of the nightclub doesn't mean there was not some coordination given his recent trips to the Middle East. Obama loves to attack American's who disagree with his viewpoints but goes out of his way to minimize and deflect from Muslim extremism. It is bizarre and non-sensical. He seems to keep forgetting that he is the President of the United States.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

One thing that isn't known nor discussed at this point is how many of the 49 victims were actually shot and killed in the barrage from the SWAT team. Also, some survivors have stated there were multiple shooters.

For the firearm illiterati, assault weapons have full-auto modes and are illegal, unlike the Sig ACX (not AR-15) that was at the scene. The term "assault-style" is meaningless.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

He seems to keep forgetting that he is the President of the United States.

On the contrary, he remembers it better than the right-wingers who want him to lose his sh*t and act irresponsibly like Trump. Obama on the other hand acts entirely presidential.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

KC;

The ban on assault weapons had virtually no impact on either crime or murder. Again, think about it- assault weapons are only used in 2% of gun related crimes. Even if they were banned, confiscated, and destroyed, it would only result in a 2% drop in the crime rate. That is assuming, of course, that assault weapons were not simply replaced with different styles of firearm, such as shotguns or pistols or.... you get the point?

There really is very little difference between an assault rifle and a regular semi-automatic rifle. The assault rifle looks scarier to people with no knowledge of firearms. That's all. It's purely cosmetic.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Solution not perfect but close: Ban some kind of weapons, ban some kind of people. But spell out the precise criteria/conditions and severe punishment loud and clear. There is a South East Asia country, Singapore that announces strict mandatory capital punishment on all flights into its country on drug trafficking; end result almost hardly any drug trafficker into that country. This is also true for kidnapping in that country. Haven't heard of kidnapping crime in that country for decades.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

On the contrary, he remembers it better than the right-wingers who want him to lose his sh*t and act irresponsibly like Trump.

In his speech after the attack, Obama blamed American's for being intolerant of homosexuals. He didn't blame Mateen, or ISIS, or sharia law - all support killing homosexuals for their mere existence. No, he blamed Americans for their intolerance. What kind of sick way of thinking is that? No one in America advocates killing homosexuals - not even those who oppose gay marriage, object on religious grounds, or who think that sodomy is disgusting and unsanitary.

Obama on the other hand acts entirely presidential.

Is it presidential to blame people unassociated with the terrorist act for the actions of the terrorist and their sick religious inspired ideology? So could we also blame Obama for not using his police powers as President for refusing to confiscate all AR-15's seven and a half years ago in order to protect national security from American homophobes? When Obama was fist elected his opposition to gay marriage makes him a homophobe by today's standard. Yeah sure - he should have gone door to door and took the AR-15's from American citizens - it's not like going against the Constitution or the laws passed by Congress are something he hasn't done before.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Apart from some loud, now trending sloganeering for the LGBT community, with a Hillary presidency the bankers and bilionaires will have gotten what they paid for: status quo upheld.

@strangerland,

You say that as if it's a bad thing. Considering the strength of the stock market, the price of oil, the jobless rate, the amount of people with health insurance, and the fact that LGBT can now marry each other, it would seem that the only people who don't want the status quo are those who would prefer to regress to more 'white' times.

Oh. Tell that to Bernie and all the Sanders supporters.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Bernie wanted to make things even better. But the status quo is not bad. Trump is trying to regress the country.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Strangerland, Bernie is all-out against the status quo. According to you those "who don't want the status quo are those who would prefer to regress to more 'white' times." Im all ears for your next circumlocution.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Bernie is all-out against the status quo.

On some things. Not on others.

But if it will make you happy, I'll amend my statement:

"Other than Bernie Sanders and his supporters, those who don't want the status quo are those who would prefer to regress to more 'white' times."

There, I actually have to admit, that's more accurate.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

You ain't no Muslim bruv!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The official said it is not clear what Mateen was up to [when he visited Disney Springs]

Possibly enjoying all those "filthy ways of the west."

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Possibly enjoying all those "filthy ways of the west."

Wide Stance of the West. Heh, Rock Hudson meets Daesh. It seems the Islamic death cult has more latents than the Republican party....

4 ( +4 / -0 )

No he didn't. You obviously didn't watch the speech.

Actually I read the transcript. Obama said, "we need the strength and courage to change". What? Why the insistence that America change when a gay Islamic extremist kills 49 people at his favorite gay bar? He contacted the media during the attack told them that he was killing those people on behalf of ISIS (ie. Islam). What bubble are you living in?

He said 'we know enough to say this was an act of terror, and an act of hate'. Who performed that act? Mateen, that's who. So it's incorrect to say he didn't blame Mateen.

That is an assumption on your part. Not once did Obama blame Mateen or even Islamic extremism for the slaughter.

You seem to be saying he should have passed judgement without knowing the facts.

So then why are you now insisting that Obama knows all the facts less than 24 hours after the incident took place and that Mateen and Islam are to blame? You are debating yourself.

It would be nice if that were true. It's not:

So that Hispanic preacher is some kind of White supremacist of something? There are nut cases of every type making similar claims about white people, heterosexuals, asians, etc. I once posted a YouTube video of a racist black man and Japan Today censored it. I am wondering if your video will also be censored or if it is okay to post links to videos that back the Leftist world view. My point is that not even people like Donald Trump - whom the Left believes is a facist and evil incarnate - is supporting the killing homosexuals as is taught by the Koran.

I could go on and on but what's the point. You are going to live in your bubble no matter the facts or reality.

Orlando gunman raged against 'filthy ways of the west'

It seems Mateen was rampaging against himself.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Orlando gunman . . . apparently made a series of Facebook posts and searches before and during his attack on a gay nightclub, raging against the “filthy ways of the west”

Why would a deranged murderer rage against the "west" that handed him the weapons of mass destruction he used to kill 49 and shoot more than one hundred innocent people?

The deranged killer should have thanked the NRA. While this mental case was on an FBI watch list, the NRA demanded he have the absolute right to purchase a military grade weapon with high capacity magazines.

These are the facts. Opinions and claims these weapons are really just play things were all proved justifications for profits that endanger thousands in the States.

Simple fact. The NRA demanded Congress (2004) must allow the sales of these weapons and that watch lists cannot stop their purchase.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@kcjapan-Tea: The deranged killer should have thanked the NRA.

The terrorist is a gay Muslim and registered Democrat. Shouldn't the Islamic terrorist be thanking Obama for his politically correct FBI policy with respect to investigating Muslims?

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Simple fact. The NRA demanded Congress (2004) must allow the sales of these weapons and that watch lists cannot stop their purchase.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

US Senate will discuss restriction of guns in USA. About waiting period, type of guns, id, and other issues to ensure deranged people and violent people can not buy.

NRA fight terrorism but it oppose to restrict sales to law abiding citizen they announced.

Pretty soon,, we can watch Hillary's campaign ad in the state I live.

Maybe Wheel ooh Fortune or Jeopardy program time?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Simple fact: The terrorist is a gay Muslim and registered Democrat. There is no evidence that he is an NRA member - at least as far as I know.

Simple fact: The NRA doesn't make the laws - Congress does ( and the President now that Obama is in office ).

This terrorist attack is about one thing and one thing only - Islamic extremism. I know that Democrats have a hard time admitting that members of one of their favored interest groups are involved in doing evil things. The sooner you (and president Obama) can grasp that fact the more likely terrorist attacks can be stopped in the future.

As for gun control, make your case to Congress and the America people. The people and their representatives will vote or not vote on further gun control laws. The NRA does not control the votes of individual members of Congress anymore than Planned Parenthood or the Sierra Club does.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

"The NRA does not control the votes of individual members of Congress" - comments

They say ignorance is bliss. In this case it seems a willful desire to lie about reality. This is the basis of Donald J. Trump's campaign.

>Orlando Shooter Was Turned Away From Different Gun Store for Being 'Suspicious'

An an alert salesperson refused to sell to Mateen, and Abell said he contacted authorities about Mateen before the massacre. The local sheriff's office said it was unaware of the incident at the gun store, and other local authorities, including the local FBI office, have not responded to ABC News' requests for comment.

Mateen began his attack at around 2 a.m. Sunday. At some point that morning he posted on Facebook his allegiance to ISIS, a demand that the U.S. and Russia to “stop bombing” the Syrian-based terrorist group and a warning of attacks to come, FBI officials said.

But eyewitnesses say he said Afghanistan, not ISIS.

This story is getting fishier by the day.

Trump and killer have similar background when they were growing. Born in NY. At least one parent was green card immigrant. Working class. Trump's father did better by becoming real estate salesman. Trump did better by followinnng fall estate salesman.. Western culture. Trump. Got pretty girls all the time. Killer ... he could not get any gay men.

uhh... where you going with this, toshiko?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It is just a stupidest , & why there is a religion tells its people to kill others for getting choice going to the heaven ? If our religion tells us to do the same , then it is ous stupidest ?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Nan Thai, I completely agree. Unfortunately a very large number of muslims would disagree, as does the koran itself.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

@alt:When a new gun control laws are enacted, large state like NY residents probably will all do not pass background check. I meant. Or all people including murderers will pass.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

He had trouble dealing with his sexuality because it conflicted with his religion. It was more than just a trigger for his actions.

Jimizo:

" I think you'll find murdering scores of innocent people with a military grade weapon is about as filthy as it gets, sunshine. "

In his ideology, they are NOT innocent. As countless imams in the mushrooming Saudi supported mosques in Western countries will confirm. So, that argument falls on deaf ears.
