Seems humanity cant kill itself off fast enough for some. Destroy the environment we need to survive and spoil the food we eat and the air we breath.
There is no other world to emigrate to, and if there was it would just end up wrecked like this one is being.
Greed is the worlds biggest killer by far.

Bottled water is sold in PET plastic bottles. Millions of them. An estimated 1.3 billion plastic bottles are used each day across the world, which is about 1 million per minute. Many end up in the rivers and oceans helping to create microplastics.
Japan imports PET bottles of water from Europe and the US. Crazy when Japan has water, plain and mineral.

Totally agree. We should definitely go back to glass bottles and a deposit scheme for returning them. Since industry can not resist the temptation to use the cheaper and lighter plastic for financial reasons, this is something where government interference is needed.
But instead of looking for a sensible solution for this real problem, our ideologically captured governments spout about ridiculous schemes for "saving" us from "climate change". Sad.

Good idea to address this growing problem and recycle!
Not going to stop people from avoiding low quality questionable at best tap water, as Govt. run water utilities monopolies across the globe are all short on cash to maintain their infrastructure, meaning RISKY!
Growth of bottled water sales is double digits as far as the eye can see, as only suckers drink from the tap or those without means or those who can't be bothered and pay little attention to health anyway, like smokers!

In France, tap water is more controlled than any other water.
Plastic bottle is non-sense to me as I never needed any at home at least. Then public fountains should be the norm to avoid making water a commercial use while it is obtained free and jusy need to be treated.
Like air, make it affordable, easily accessed and safe for all.
Selling Evian (or whatever spring water) around the world, what a joke.

I thought My Bag program would have helped, it turned out that businesses are ripping consumers making as much as 5 yen per bag when it costs them less than .5 yen out of China.
These funds should be diverted to pay for cleaning up our sea and rivers instead of letting businesses pocket it.
Businesses are making money in the name of the so called " ECO Protection " while pocketing the profits.

Put a recycle / refund value on these bottles like 3 to 5 yen and watch people start returning to collection centers for cash, money talks.
Jonathan Prin
In France, I recycle bottles for one eurocent (small ones or metal cans) and 2 cents (large plastic ones).
This is not enough and be at lezst doubled or tripled to have an effect on people.
Also littering should be seen as a serious damage to society, not a mere moral misconduct.
