Respect to those willing to risk being jailed and worse because they demonstrated against authoritarianism.

What is hypocritical in the cases of claims that elections were rigged is that no one dares or cares to ask how much truth is there. From Syria, Bolivia, Venezuela, Belarus and even USA it turn out that all this claims are simple lies or claims based on emotions of the looser. It is easy to yell FAULT! And for sure the western interests will jump on wit interference and sanctions because they want their loyal choice to secede in what amounts to a coup. In the case of Belarus, maybe Lukas supporters cheated a bit, but how much. He had no problems going in to the election and most of the citizens are worried about the change. So maybe he really won by only 70% or evan as low as 65% but I am sure he won. Opposition is loud but small in numbers and with to much foreign influence. It all boils down to a simple fact, it is about yet another country NATO wants to militarize against Russia.

U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said in a statement that the situation with human rights in Belarus is getting worse. Bachelet pointed to reports of mass arrests, the beating of detainees and the use of force in dispersing peaceful demonstrations. “It is urgent that the government of Belarus puts an end to ongoing human rights violations,” Bachelet said, urging Belarusian authorities to release those who have been unlawfully detained during protests, stop clamping down on the demonstrations and investigate “all allegations of torture and other human rights violations, including the deaths of at least four persons in the context of the protests.”

With this in mind, it's astounding that anyone can defend Lukashenko.

I never understand when a leader claims to love his country but then does so much to hurt it and its people.
