This guy has to be one of the original THREE STOOGES of bomb makers (after all that work and the bomb doesn't even go off) and now he doesn't get out of the country fast enough to make his get away - what a looser!

Moderator: Please learn the difference between "looser" and "loser."

what a looser!

You got that right! Kind of reminds me uf the underwear bomber a while back. Terrorist are losing 'cool points' quick.

There's got to be more to this story than meets the eye...

sharky: "Why am I not surprised that this man is of Islamic origin..."

Perhaps you forget that Pakistan is a US ally in the war on terror... or are all of 'them' the same to you? Maybe he's sick of being told Pakistan is an 'ally' and yet its civilians are constantly being bombed or shot at by US drones. Just maybe. Or... and wait for it... can you indicate WHERE it says the man is Islam? I know you say, 'of Islamic origin', as though anyone born in an Islamic nation must be a terrorist or other such rubbish, but seriously! The article also says security is tighter than usual in advance of a visit by Iran's leader -- maybe the guy was protesting the visit! My point is, no reason to make such a remark, especially with no grounds for doing so.

Without going further into that sort of prejudice, though, I'll just point out that while I agree the guy is a LOSER (thank you, mods, for pointing out the spelling above... pet peeve), he still planted a potentially very destructive bomb, and the authorities are reacting very appropriately. Good on the passerby who spotted the SUV and reported it, as well.

Pakistan is only an ally of the US as long as the money keeps flowing into the right bank accounts. I wouldn't trust them any more then the stooge the US put into power in Afghanistan. Don't forget that most of the terrorists who got away from the US in Afghanistan are now operating out of Pakistan. The fact that I would bet 100% of them are Islamic carrying out Islamic jihad against the US does sort of put the religion into the topic doesn't it?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Your are quite right Smithinjapan, about me being prejudiced. I don't have a problem with that because not all prejudices are wrong. Until you can show me the demonstrations by the islamic people who say they are peaceful who not only condemn these kinds of acts, but call for the criminals to be prosecuted as well, I will maintain my prejudice. Sorry if that doesn't fit into your politically correct world.

Moderator: Please do not bring your prejudices to this discussion board.

sharky: "Why am I not surprised that this man is of Islamic origin..."

Fair enough and good on you for blaming Islamic origin (I would say culture) rather than Islam itself. Terrorism has become an Islamic culture thing. We know its not an Islam thing because Islam is over a thousand years old, while this sort of thing is new to Islamic culture and dating clearly from the Iran/Iraq war of the 80s. Of course it must be said that its not even isolated to Islamic culture though, any more than Hip Hop is isolated to black culture. When I read it, I figured it was another Timothy McVeigh, but I am not surprised the apparent perp is from an Islamic culture at all.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Without going further into that sort of prejudice

Why am I not surprised that this man is extremely likely to be of Islamic origin, given the facts we know about this case?

or are all of 'them' the same to you

No, not all of 'them' are the same. 4% of Pakistanis are not Muslims. They're the ones who are subjugated or persecuted by the Islamic state, to the supreme indifference of 'liberals' (it's time a new term was coined for 'liberals', because these days they're anything but.)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

With all these globalist/Lib attacks against Muslims, Islam and even the Prophet there are a Billion+ people around the World upset. I would like Obama to stop the hate and destruction the Globalists have against this group of people.

With all the media attacks against Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and even Muslims I am actually surprised there are not more people acting out their anger. =Much more can be attained thru peaceful protest though.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

When I read it, I figured it was another Timothy McVeigh, but I am not surprised the apparent perp is from an Islamic culture at all." I was hoping for the same thing, to avoid argument, but I can't help thinking how many times I've walked that very area, even had my engagement party just around the corner from there in the Winter prior to 9-11. Now, we learn the Taliban guy who was supposed to have been waxed, is claiming credit, and is saying cities, as in plural, and all some here can do is say is just a random thing not to get hyped about. Like we should all just walk around and not be aware of our surroundings. Of course, the usual on my other blogs are calling for his rights and comfort is the thrump all.

However, Where's the next place is what I hope our conversations can change to.

Also, the guy just became a citizen. But Badsey says they should hate us. Well, why become a citizen?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Badsey, the media do not attack Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan or even Muslims. They do attack or condemn certain violent groups who are trying to upset the boat.

I believe that everyone around the world will be happy to see these countries being Islamic and stable, like many other Islamic countries.

As to this guy, what he has done may be amateurish, but the date and place, timing and planning smell of Al Qaida and to a lesser extent the Taliban. They got the guy over to their place for a period of time, with or against his will, the perfect fall guy, and they sent him in.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I was joyfully surprised to wake up and hear the report that the terrorist who built this bomb and put it in Times Square was caught.

We got this guy and luckily the car bomb didn't go off.

Next time it may detonate. We were lucky this time. < :-)

I was joyfully surprised to wake up and hear the report that the terrorist who built this bomb and put it in Times Square was caught." No, you were hoping it was not a muslim. You would have been all over this board.

"The suspect, Faisal Shahzad"

Innocent until proven guilty!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The suspect, Faisal Shahzad, was taken into custody late Monday by FBI agents and New York Police Department detectives at Kennedy Airport while trying to board a flight to Dubai,

Golly Goshers,

I sure hope he wasn't PROFILED by them racist Airport security folks while trying to board the plane.

"I sure hope he wasn't PROFILED by them racist Airport security folks while trying to board the plane."

Heh, I'm a white-boy with no religious affiliation but it doesn't seem to make much difference to the nazi's at any airport security check that I've been through lately.

At least it would seem they're on the ball.

skipthesong, You're so far off base that you've lost sense of reality. I didn't know whether it was going to be a Muslim, a skinhead, a Tea Party fanatic or just a pissed off citizen. You're just disappointed that I didn't jump to conclusions like other posters. I gave the authorities time to investigate this bombing attempt before I jumped to an opinion.

But you're so sure of your position that you want to criticize me.

Like I said before, I was glad that he was captured. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Apparently they didn't spot him. The plane was taxiing for take-off when it was brought back and three people were taken off it, I read earlier.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They do attack or condemn certain violent groups who are trying to upset the boat.

List of terrorists: -people that do not like the criminal banks or will not support them. -people that are against debt from the criminal banks (add your country here). -people that are against illegal immigration or talk about the illegal's riot in Santa Cruz, Phoenix etc. -people that are against more than 50% of Gov money going to the military -people that are gun owners or Veterans, Police Officers, Security (ex-gun owners) -people that refuse to be indoctrinated by the media -people that refuse to call everyone above "terrorists"

=I do not want to be on your "boat" especially when it starts to sink.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Badsey, all these groups that you quote exist it is true, but they are off-topic.

The ones trying to establish a pure Islamic Emirate on this earth probably look down pitifully on all your new-world alliance, your anti-globalists above. The Wahabi Al Qaida-type factions want to rock the boat, the political status quo, and sink it, and install 'pure' Islamic Sharia governments instead. Faisal Shahzad will have been idealistically indoctrinated in such thinking, I bet, and will feel internally justified.

"a Swedish artist whose work offended Muslims"

I hear Muslims are upset about another artist's depiction of Jack Bauer wearing a turban, brandishing a rifle and shouting "Allah Akbar!"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Can this really be classed as an "attack"? Surely "attempted attack" would be more appropriate, since it didn't explode...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Big disappointment for the mainstream media. They were already drooling that they had maybe found one of these elusive radical christian terrorist that they love to phantasize about.... turns out it is yet another case of a muslim with sudden jihad syndrome.

Expect now interest in the story to fade rapidly.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

hope not all the american are poor in reasoning and understanding the consequences. i think it's a part of the continuing drama of the US government. of which, the previous one was the that of the Nigerian guy(the plane drama). Taliban or Al Qaeda are well organised enough not to have unsuccessful amateur attacks like these. may be these two guys have been promised of getting huge money for helping US govt to make these dramas or simply have become the victims.no one is going to know what is happening inside. may be all of these trials and prosecutions are fake and they will be helped to escape to a safe land with huge money while everyone will think that they are getting punished.on the other hand US govt will get lame excuse for further and new attacks with more and more force.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

willi, can you point us in the direction of those reports?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sharky1: "Until you can show me the demonstrations by the islamic people who say they are peaceful who not only condemn these kinds of acts, but call for the criminals to be prosecuted as well, I will maintain my prejudice."

Rather than give you heaps of links to the Muslim world condemning acts of radical Islamists (or others, for that matter) why don't I simply give you the link to the very article JT posted after the Mumbai terrorist acts:

http://www.japantoday.com/category/world/view/india-claims-mumbai-gunman-linked-to-pakistani-group

"Sorry if that doesn't fit into your politically correct world."

That aside, I say again to others who insist on harping about Islam, we don't even know WHY the man did it yet, unless the article has changed in the past few hours, so while he was born in Pakistan, that does not make him a radical Islamic terrorist like some claim on here. Maybe he was mad about taxes!

The question is not, as some people have asked, "Why am I not surprised that this man is of Islamic origin...", but rather, "why should we not be surprised people will jump to such assumptions and conclusions when nothing is known?" It's either pure ignorance and hatred, or just plain fear.

Speaking of which:

Willi: "They were already drooling that they had maybe found one of these elusive radical christian terrorist that they love to phantasize about.... "

Which mainstream media was that, exactly?

adaydream: " I gave the authorities time to investigate this bombing attempt before I jumped to an opinion."

BINGO! And the best part is there's still not that much known about the reasons why, as the investigation is still ongoing.

"Like I said before, I was glad that he was captured. < :-)"

AND so SOMEONE mentions the most important point -- the man responsible was caught, and without the bomb having gone off as he intended. Thank whatever god or religious entity you want for that one, peeps... that's the most important thing. Getting upset and wagging your finger at 1.4 billion of the world's people will accomplish nothing.

Shahzad is a naturalized U.S. citizen

This guy was naturalized as a U.S. citizen a year ago. Why in the world is the U.S. still granting citizenship to foreign born Muslims? Crazy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Racist america at it again, am pretty sure if it was a terrorist attack then the components in the SUV would have worked, or at least be the proper kind that could work. No doubt the FBI are still trying to frame anybody comming home from a holiday in the middle east.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hurtado: "No doubt the FBI are still trying to frame anybody comming home from a holiday in the middle east."

I don't think it's the FBI, although with the racial profiling allowed under the racist Patriot Act they certainly CAN do that without any legal ramifications; it's more like a bunch of paranoid Americans who turn around and say it's the act of a crazed, lone individual (or group that doesn't represent the whole!) when a Christian does this kind of thing. Here... take a look:

http://www.japantoday.com/category/world/view/christian-militia-accused-of-plotting-to-kill-police-in-us

Look at WilliB's comment, for example: "Never mind that actually nothing happened and it is all speculation. Forget about real-life suicide bombings -- its open season on Christian nuts now."

And yet his comment on this thread, when nothing has happened: "...turns out it is yet another case of a muslim with sudden jihad syndrome."

My point is that there are crazed individuals everywhere, of every denomination and nationality, as can be seen in any day to day massacre of school children, parents killing kids, people blowing themselves up (or trying to), gas attacks in subways, plans to overthrow the government... you name it. And yet here, when few facts are known as to the man's motivation, you have some paranoid posters claiming it's the work of Islam, and some even suggesting he wasn't REALLY naturalized as it only happened recently, etc.

They caught the guy without the bomb having gone off, and that's first and foremost what matters. After that, as things unwind as to WHY the man did it, we'll see what happen

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well Smith, you're still kind of blind to the teachings of Islam yourself. As much as I'd like to join you on the bandwagon of not every muslim is a terrorist minded nutjob (which I do understand), their religious teachings is a factor no matter how much you want to side step it. An ex muslim said that even if a muslim is a good muslim and does his prayers, penance, and sticks to the code of islamic conduct, they can still go to hell... and the one thing that side steps that is supposed to be martyrdom. The problem is that the idea of martyrdom in islamic belief is that its very very warped.

The man accused of setting up the bomb probably admitted to it in hopes that the US system will execute him so he can achieve his status of martyrdom. The suicide bombers, terrorists with islamic extremism in their minds will keep doing the same thing for the exact same reason. A lot of muslims not in the US and even some that immigrated to the US still believe that the US is full of nothing but christians (chuckle), and on top of that that all christians hate muslims. They've got their stereotypes too.

A bad day for the mainstream media.... they had so much hoped to finally be able to find a non-muslim terrorist. Instead, it turns out to be yet another jihadist on a mission to create terror in the heart of the Great Satan.

They must be grinding their teeth at the NYT and in the White House.

HonestDictator: "An ex muslim said that even if a muslim is a good muslim and does his prayers, penance, and sticks to the code of islamic conduct, they can still go to hell... and the one thing that side steps that is supposed to be martyrdom."

Just to counter your point, a Christian can go out on a crusade and murder hundreds, but so long as he does penance on his death bed s/he will be accepted into heaven no matter what s/he did. Which brings me back to the point that all religions have nutjobs that can choose to interpret things as they see fit, with radical sects like in the link I pasted in above; doesn't mean you have the right to condemn a fifth of the world's people, or however many Christians there are either.

"As much as I'd like to join you on the bandwagon of not every muslim is a terrorist minded nutjob (which I do understand)..."

Now THAT I am very glad to hear... at least the first part of the sentence, so let's just stick with that sentiment.

WilliB: "A bad day for the mainstream media.... they had so much hoped to finally be able to find a non-muslim terrorist."

Willi, you posted this comment earlier in the thread, to which I easily countered it with my post above to show your hypocrisy when it's NOT Islam that is involved in a terrorist act.

"They must be grinding their teeth at the NYT and in the White House."

On the contrary; they're probably letting people like you worry and entertain prejudicial thoughts while they congratulate themselves on catching the guy and safely removing the bomb. :)

willi, just admit it's part of your wild conspiracy theories if you cant post an URL.....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

From you own mouth, "Just to counter your point, a Christian can go out on a crusade and murder hundreds, but so long as he does penance on his death bed s/he will be accepted into heaven no matter what s/he did. Yes there are extremist elements in ALL religions, Branch Davidian, Aum Shin Rin (or whatever), and Hindi extremist groups (none off the top of my head at the moment.) But, you still skip the point that its still extremely rare to come across them on an international level compared to muslim extremists which have affected more than just 1 or 2 countries. Keep in mind you hear muslim extremism in more than just one localized area or nation.

Moderator: Stay on topic please.

HonestDictator:

" Yes there are extremist elements in ALL religions, Branch Davidian, Aum Shin Rin (or whatever), and Hindi extremist groups (none off the top of my head at the moment.) "

Can cite any Jain, Bahaii, or Zoroastrian terrorists? No, I didn´t think so either.

The command to hate and fight the unbelievers until all the world is submitted is integral only to one religion. All that Faisal Shahzad did was trying to make sure he goes to paradise by pleasing his god. There really is nothing "extreme" about it, once you accept the dogma.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Big disappointment for the mainstream media. They were already drooling that they had maybe found one of these elusive radical christian terrorist that they love to phantasize about....

LOL! exactly. Even the incompetent Mayor Bloomberg said it was probably a tea partier. I hope they are thoroughly embarrassed and ashamed.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If Times Square is anything like the center/centre of any major city, it's the last place where you would find 'Americans' to kill. (Try and find an English person in central London or a Parisian in the Eiffel Tower.) Hahahaha.... international tourists, perhaps yes, in large numbers...
