The Muslim religion has a serious problem on it's hands. When is someone going to step up and do something about these insanity?

I am speechless. lost for words. murder in front of police, high court. no intervention...

I just watched a BBC report from Pakistan where a Pakistani journalist said that while the editorials in English language papers in Pakistan strongly denounced this, Urdu papers were either silent or gave mixed opinions. It's a truly depressing thought that newspapers are published in a society where there isn't universal condemnation of this. A father and brother joining in the beating of a daughter and a sister to death with bricks?

"Pakistan PM orders immediate action over 'honor killing' of pregnant woman"

Pakistan's "immediate action" is due to the international attention that this particular incident has received. If Pakistani government officials are truly concerned about ending this barbaric practice, they would re-open some, if not all, of last year's 869 "honor killings"and severely punish all of the "honorable" men who were involved in the killings. Also, preventing people from paying their way out "honor killing" convictions would be a good start toward ending this practice.

What a backwards bunch of people. Poor woman. Sounds like her family ought to be up for murder charges. It would also seem that Urdu is becoming a language of shame.

Pakistan PM orders immediate action over 'honor killing' of pregnant woman

This was a crime of the upmost degree and those cops that stood by and allowed it to happen are worthless beings who don't deserve to wear a uniform.

As to the victims family who carried out this crime, well, they deserve to rot in prison the rest of their worthless lives.

These acts of insanity are committed by people with backwoods mentality and people stuck in the Dark Ages. I hope these people get to feel the pangs of modern justice. But, knowing how backwoods some of their fellow citizens are and how these crimes are condoned by many segments of their own society the girls family will most likely get a slap on the wrist and a pat on the back.

The modern world needs to shame and sanction any nation that doesn't take a strong stance against these kinds of barbaric murders.

As someone mentioned on the news, the term "honor killing" should not be used as a translation of the original expression. There is nothing honorable about murder.

Absolute barbarism.

In a very, very warped and demented reality does this kind of action bring honour to anyone. Religion aside.

I'm the first to criticise religion, but in this case blaming Islam isn't really fair. I'm sure those who follow any Bronze Age book to the letter will treat women disgracefully, but this disgusting idea of honor killings exists in non-Muslim societies.

@JoeBigs,

Point that I am making is that "honor killing" is deeply rooted in Pakistan's culture. No matter what the goverment saids, It will take few decades before they realize it is wrong. They need education and strict enforcement by the police. It will be difficult in the rural areas. Look at how long it took Japan to tranform their society.

Wolfpack- So precious few Islamic leaders do denounce these actions. Which leads many to assume the condone it secretly.

It's growing, festering and is today a serious problem. Just wait five more years and five more after that......

@Jimizo

Bronze age?

@ but this disgusting idea of honor killings exists in non-Muslim societies.

Yes, but 91% of honour killings worldwide are in Muslim communities.

Unless the Islamic link is acknowledged and addressed, the killings will continue.

Countries like Pakistan with deep cultural history and tradition is hard to undersand by western thinking. No matter what PM saids, it will continue and there is no way to enforce in the rural areas of Pakistan. Tradition will continue, and many women will continue to die. In their own mind, they are doing the right thing. Even in Japan during WWII, those soldiers that were defeated but not killed in battle would be allowed to commit suicide (seppuki or harakiri) in order to regain their honor. Why did modern society like Japan allow this to happen to their own people that serve their country?

Pointing to the past to defend what happens now is a bit off don't you think?

How many Japanese soldiers in the last 5 years have committed seppuku because they hadn't wanted to surrender?

Now, how many honor killings have been committed in those 5 years?

It's not hard to see when something is wrong, it's just hard to blame a society for promoting and defending what is wrong.

The news now is that the murdered woman's fiancee has admitted to strangling his former wife in order to marry this woman. I'm sorry but I don't know what to think about this anymore.
