Palin Meets First Foreign Leaders Vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin met with a series of world leaders as a sort of crash course on foreign policy. What do you think?

Johnny Moreland, Hotel Clerk "Wow, she's a lot better at meeting people than I expected."

Kevin Freamon, Tour Guide "All she needs to do is make a simple mnemonic device for remembering each country, its form of government, its gross domestic product, its military history, its relationship to the United States, and what it's best known for."

Karla Greggs, Rock Climbing Teacher "This should allay voters' concerns about electing a candidate with no experience being photographed with foreign leaders."

CARBONDALE, PA—Less than two weeks after introducing to the nation her developmentally disabled newborn and her 19-year-old son preparing for military service in Iraq, Republican vice presidential nominee and conservative Christian woman Sarah Palin delivered a speech Monday flanked by three heretofore-unknown relatives, including a naturalized Mexican half brother, a formerly lesbian niece, and a New York City firefighter cousin who saved several lives during the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. "John McCain and I will take on the Washington establishment and give the government back to the people," said Palin, who several times gave the "thumbs-up" sign to her African-American coal-miner uncle seated in the audience. "We envision a better and brighter future for hardworking, selfless Americans like Ted, Anne, and Guillermo here." Palin has a campaign stop scheduled next week in Texas, where she is expected to introduce her stepsister Linda, a $35 barrel of offshore-drilled crude oil wrapped in an American flag

I guess that makes Obama's relative a fairly average Kenyan.

You know, Palin needs to just say "You're right, I don't have a lot of foreign policy experience right now. But neither did Truman, Clinton, Carter etc. and they did just fine in that regard. Also, John McCain is particularly gifted and experienced in that area, I'm a fast learner and in six months on the job I'll be as good as anybody. To me this is largely a manufactured issue by the Democrats." I wouldn't agree with most of that, but at least it is a logically and intellectually sound argument, unlike this expertise by osmosis theory she refuses to give up on. For God's sake, "people in Alaska trade with foreign countries and I'm their governor so I must be a foreign policy expert"? That isn't poor reasoning, that isn't reasoning at all. She is taking a hypothetical that could be true (i.e., the governor of Alaska could have relevant foreign policy experience) and presenting it baldly as a fact. Inexperienced is not good, but blind to one's weaknesses is a lot worse.

otook her that long to come up with her comeback lol

Sarah Palin is going to make history when she becomes the next vice president of the United States of America, and she's going to be a great vice president, perhaps the greatest vice president in history.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If that's true, she's got a lot of work ahead of her to just avoid being a laughing-stock. After that she'll need to get going on the greatest thing.

I think John F Kennedy once said something like this to Richard Nixon :do not believe in your experiences for they are just the accumulation of failures! Palin is the woman of determination ,courage, hard working, action and will do very well in position of VP for McCain.

just so people know those post from me above are from www.theonion.com its a joke site:)

Alaska is pretty much a "foreign country" to the rest of the USA. =All her experience is foreign policy.

It's nice seeing all these reporters venture into Alaska to report on Palin, but they are already ruining the state and "foreigner" crime is already up. Well at least salmon season is coming and hopefully the cold will force the foreigners out.

I would hate to see the last pristine state being ruined. -Save Alaska!!

Ha ha, this is the funniest news of the week, if not the year. :-)

Sarah Palin has become a mumbling idiot.

"When Couric asked how Alaska's closeness to Russia enhanced her foreign policy experience, Palin said, "Well, it certainly does because our ... our next-door neighbors are foreign countries." Alaska shares a border with Canada."

That pretty much qualifies my 7-month-young daughter to be Minister of Foreign Affairs, because - write this down - "our next-door neighbors are foreign countries."

"Palin didn't answer directly when Couric inquired about whether she had been involved in any negotiations with the Russians."

Thought as much. I thought that was the best bit, but, no, it just got better -

"It's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where — where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is — from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to ... to our state," she said.

Probably the funniest aspect of this whole joke is that there's STILL Republicans out there who think Sarah Palin is worthwhile VP material.

But they probably don't have passports, either.

palin.palin.palin. Nobody talks about Joe "Sock Em" Biden anymore.

why?

Sarge - "Sarah Palin is going to make history when she becomes the next vice president of the United States of America, and she's going to be a great vice president, perhaps the greatest vice president in history."

Heh, looks like Sarge wants to make his country into more of a trainwreck than it already is. 'Patriotism' doesn't even come into the picture when it comes to our Sarge.... :-)

So Alaskans don't need a passport to visit the United States? Something is wrong in the state of Denmark!

Seriously, selecting a running mate like Palin, somebody has to ask if McCain is aiming to loose the election. Maybe the GOP have given up and saddled McCain (the long-term loose canon of the GOP), with this person Palin. She seems to have been backpeddling since the ticket was announced. Troopergate, stretching the truth about commanding the Alaskan National Guard, stretching the truth about visiting Iraq (which actually turned out to be the Kuwaiti border). And this woman could end up being President if McCain were to die in office? Give me a break, Palin seems to be clearly out of her depth on all fronts.

Wow - this interview was astonishing. I thought Dubya took the all-time Hall of fame for cluelessness and bumbling, but Palin's right up there with him.

Just waiting for the corporate media to start giving the Enquirer's new story the same fanfare as they did to the Edwards scandal.

Apparently this woman's been doing the wild thing with her husband's business partner...certainly sounds like the trustworthy, reliable sort you want as Veep.

Especially when she's a heartbeat away from the big job. If McCain gets in, he could be assassinated by a mild winter.

Wottock - Get ready for Vice President Palin.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge - why? It looks like your squad have given up. Is McCain even going to show up to the debate, or is he too scared to debate with a man who can keep his temper for thirty minutes and keep speaking in full sentences? Or maybe his busy schedule with lady Rothschild today means he's not got time to speak to the American people.

Hey I saw that Palin had an interview with the media the other day. She got down in her take-off blocks, started running, answered a couple of republican media questions and got the hell out of view. She just couldn't get away without any questions. Her handlers were flogged to allow this mistake to happen.

I can see the moon from my front yard. I talk to moonmen all the time. I know they exist.

I can't wait till the first VP debate. < :-)

After watching Palin sputter and squirm in front of Couric last night, never again will I let a Republican talk about Obama's speaking abilities. She embarrassed herself as much as McCain's going to embarrass himself tonight.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You are not the only one who noticed, USAFdude. A female columnist at the conservative National Review had this to say:

Palin's recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

Palin filibusters. She repeats words, filling space with deadwood. Cut the verbiage and there's not much content there... If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself.

If Palin were a man, we'd all be guffawing, just as we do every time Joe Biden tickles the back of his throat with his toes. But because she's a woman -- and the first ever on a Republican presidential ticket -- we are reluctant to say what is painfully true...

McCain can't repudiate his choice for running mate. He not only risks the wrath of the GOP's unforgiving base, but he invites others to second-guess his executive decision-making ability...

Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts her family first.

Pulling out would still raise questions about why McCain put her on the ticket in the first place. One of many reasons to question his judgment.....

It is a tragedy for a democratic country when voters will vote for candidates purely based on their WORDS, their speeches not their actions or track records or characters...There is much more to human than just speeches or expression of words.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This could just be another Bush fiasco for all the Dems out there. Remember, it is the Americans who get to vote. And while most Americans like to think they are bigger, badder and better than just about everyone else on this world, they also like to think they are smarter. What better way to feel all good about your intellect than to vote for some complete idiots. It happened in the last two elections. Left to the Americans, it could easily happen again. That's a cheers to you Sarge.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

MeanRingo ( 7:01 ) - "That's a cheers to you Sarge"

No, that's an insult.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Dude - If Obama is such a great speaker and Palin and McCain are such sputterers, why is Obama barely ahead in the polls?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge - it doesn't matter. Obama is ahead; the margin is insignificant. Barack Obama is gonna be your next president, son - and thank Christ, Obama's gonna be our new Commander-in-Chief.

The greatest thing Sarah Palin ever did for America is prove her stupidity to the world BEFORE the election! Thanks, Gov. Palin; we salute you!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama's gonna be our new Commander-in-Chief

How scary is that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not scary at all to someone who's served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It is a tragedy for a democratic country when voters will vote for candidates purely based on their WORDS . . . There is much more to [a] human than just speeches or expression of words.

Sorry tclh, I know your side wanted to turn this into a beauty contest for the V.P. slot but we need to know where a candidate stands on the issues.

I just saw that interview, and dare I say,"Oh my bloody god! the women was completely out of her element! Now I believe that Old Man McBush is really freaken nutz!

No one in their right mind would have ever picked this women for any position higher than an aide to an aide of an Ambassador to Principality of Monaco at best!

McBush and his team better keep her out of everything public and keep her begging for cash. Because she is meat if she opens her mouth.

Many times she had the dear in the headlight look on her face.

Oh yeah McBush knows what he is doing!LOL

Here is my favorite snip of the interview.....

She said that when Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin "rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where do they go? It's Alaska."

Yes I think this qualifies as Republican VP material! Man oh man this is tooo good!!!

Alaska!!!LOL

What the hell was this old fool thinking!!!LOL

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think there is a lot of sexism going on here. All of you jumping on Sarah are the same ones who defended Hillary's famous statement of taking on Sniper fire and then let her get away with "I made a mistake, I'm sorry - rolls her eyes and smiles).

Was her statement about seeing Russia stupid? Yes. But I can see Cuba from my uncle's marina.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The pilot of the airplane she wa on said that was all BS.

As he said, common sense tells ya they ain't landin' a plane takin' on sniper fire while Bill's love of his life is aboard.

Wait. Let me think about that.

JoeBigs: "the women was completely out of her element!"

Har! I hope whoever's paying you to post this stuff isn't paying you too much!

Afghanistan President Karzai is impressed with Palin.

JoeBigs, goodDonkey, USAFdude - any comment on that?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge at 09:14 PM JST - 27th September Afghanistan President Karzai is impressed with Palin. JoeBigs, goodDonkey, USAFdude - any comment on that?

Karzi impressed by Palin......Let us see if he was to say that he thought she was out of her element how much US funding would he get if Palin and that other guy wins? He is speaking with his bank book.

Let me guess Sarge, you have not really looked at the interviews have you. Or have you and you are just putting your right wing blinders on?

Sarge you have to admit she did real bad in the last 3 interviews! Come on man you can not be that much of a right winger that you are not wiling to admit it! LOL

Come on Sarge, if she did a above par job I would have given her KUDOS...But she really blew the interviews, and blew them badly...LOL

At least will you tell us how she did after the election is over, come on at least give us that promise! After the election you will stop waving the republican banner and give us what you really thought of her?
