Wow, it seems like she is already forgotten -except for the JT Libs and Soc's that think she is John Kerry or Al Gore (ex-presidential losers that didn't want to throw in the towel)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So we already figured out the deal.

Book tour.

Lecture tour.

Run for the White House.

It is clear she could not write the book, do the book tour, do the lecture circuit, which will bring in huge money she can keep) and collect campaign contributions for her trip and fall to the White House while she was Governor. That is why she quit. Plain and Simple. Just like ya'll like it.

Maybe Palin should place an advertisement:

Help me! Please! In urgent need of $400,000,000.00 to run a Primary campaign. I'll just die if I don't get it.

Send to the Governor's Victim Fund, Martyrdom, Alaska.

“I think she owes it to Alaskans to tell us why,” said state Sen. Dennis Egan, the son of Alaska’s first governor, Bill Egan.

I agree with that statement.

I believe she really is calling it quits, whether that is her desire or not. America (IMO) is not going to rally behind someone who bailed on her constituents.

"I think she owes it to Alaskans to tell us why"

"I agree with that statement"

You must have missed the 4th paragraph from the bottom of the article.

Palin said on Facebook:

"I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint," she said.

Shocking news of her national aspirations. And you thought she was just a victim.

Palin's personal spokeswoman, Meghan Stapleton, confirmed to The Associated Press that the Facebook posting was written by the governor.

"I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security and much-needed fiscal restraint."

Sounds good. Unfortunately with Obama and the Democrats in power, none of that is going to happen. I can't believe we've got to wait until 2013 before any of this can happen.

I think it is very important to make the text of her speech available on every thread. I must warn those with normal brain functions that it may make you wretch.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Heh, can't have it both ways, Donkey.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sarge,

I think the senator was looking for something with a little more substance than the press was mean to her and that she has an undisclosed plan for the future.

It's pretty obvious that you have zero real interest in her governorship. If Al Franken, a politician I supported with my time and money, bails on Minnesota mid-term, I will be furious with him for life.

I can easily understand any constituent, especially her supporters, feeling the same way.

Conversely, I also can understand her desire to leave politics. Politics is a family affair and it sucks for the family. When I got a speeding ticket a few weeks after receiving my driver's license, it was in the county paper and it looked very bad for my father.

If her purpose for resigning is to spare her family that, I can understand it. However, no matter what the reason, she owes the people of Alaska, and her supporters in particular, a huge apology.

Here's hoping that her supporters are smart enough to forego demanding an apology over the internet. That has always struck me as being ridiculous.

Taka

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"She owes the people of Alaska, and her supporters in particular, a huge apology"

She does not.

Sarge

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge,

Failin Palin is a quitter, its that simple. Once the VP slot came up Juneau was in the rear view mirror. She could not care any less about Alaska now as she is playing on the national stage. She does indeed owe her voters a huge apology.

The christian wingers always want to play the victim no matter the circumstances. Palin accused Obama of being a terrorist, guess that is OK with some of you. But when she flubs interview after interview and gets ripped its poor me, poor little sarah barracuda. What a bunch of moose piles. Palin will never get the full barrage that H. Clinton took for years from drugs limbaugh, heil hannidy and the rest of the immoral radio shock jocks.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sarge,

"she does not."

I'll just assume your lack of a justification for that comment stems from your lack of a justification and press on.

Honestly, it's not up to you or I to determine whether sarah palin owes her constituents an apology, it's up to them. So far, the only Alaskan I've heard from is Sen. Egan.

He says she does. He's an Alaskan. That trumps both of our opinions (but moreso yours, since yours comes with no explanation).

If Palin cannot handle the heat of politics while governor of Alaska, then I cannot really see her doing any better on a large stage.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

'“I think she owes it to Alaskans to tell us why,” said state Sen. Dennis Egan, the son of Alaska’s first governor, Bill Egan.'

More than that, she owes everyone who supported her, and even those who did not, a HUGE apology.

“If you’re really not going to stay and do your job every day, you should leave anyway, and so the sooner the better so somebody can step in and actually do the job,” Carlton said. “We don’t care. We just want her gone,” she said.

Bang on, from your average Joe.

Where is Palin going to get all the money to pay for her daughters trips now?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

buddha: "If Palin cannot handle the heat of politics while governor of Alaska, then I cannot really see her doing any better on a large stage."

I can see her trying, and failing, as she has here. Then of course turning around and instead of apologizing for failing the people who have supported her, when she chickened out and ran away, she'll blame the media and claim she's a victim.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Keeping a low profile, and top news story...same thing?

Here is a beautiful picture of Sarah Palin wrapped up in a flag as she celebrates this Independence day.

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/.a/6a00d83451c45669e2011571a82a99970b-popup

What a patriotic darling she is.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

she'll blame the media and claim she's a victim.

Victim or a target? Judging by the hate speech hurled at her on these boards ever since she came into the spotlight, I think target is much more in line with reality here. There is also something else I found preplexing. The left always goes on about political correctness and not putting people down because of their race, creed or color. When it came to Palin that went right out the window. the irony was the left can't even see the double-standard right in front of you. To busy insulting the Governor every chance they had. Not all on the left but I'm talking in general here. Look at any story involving Palin in the archives. Dolt, seemed to be the politically correct word of choice over all others. I found that very sad and I still do. Vindictive, hateful people who claim they are more compassionate than a Conservative. That is hypocrisy defined.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The left always goes on about political correctness and not putting people down because of their race, creed or color. When it came to Palin that went right out the window.

hating palin has nothing to do with the fact that she is a white women, and everything to do with her lack of a brain. when you consider what people who come from considerably less advantaged backgrounds manage to achieve, palin's stupidity is even less forgivable

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sailwind: "Dolt, seemed to be the politically correct word of choice over all others."

Would 'thinking impaired' be more 'politically correct' for you? I think you're confusing what is politically correct and what is simply hurling insults (whether they be true or not). She deserves a lot of the insults hurled at her, for that matter, but not jokes like Letterman cast out (and apologized for). Still, the REAL hypocrisy is that listeners and fans of Limbaugh would come on here and say something like you did above. Now THAT person needs a LOT of schooling on what is politically correct, let alone PC. Calling Palin a dolt, which she clearly is? Nah.

She's a stupid person who let down all sorts of others around her, and she's a hypocrite. When this is pointed out she casts herself as a victim and runs away again.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Taka313-"He says she does. He's an Alaskan. That trumps both of our opinions "

For now. But the second she enters a national race, the opinion of the country on that is going to gain a lot more credence. In other words, I will not say much about it now, but later, I might be talking about it a lot, and rightly so. Some people are just a little pre-emptive, but then, the article does say she has national ambitions.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sailwind: "Let the folks decide for themselves if I'm a hypocrite."

That was decided quite some time ago, my friend, and GDonkey just proved it yet again. Well, to give you complete credit, you proved it yourself.

Anyway, back to the fact, Palin is a tool.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"What a patriotic darling she is."

The only patriotism I am sure she carries by that pic is that which she wears on her sleeve, almost literaly there. I would not be caught dead in such a disgusting display for looking like a phoney, and frankly, she does in that picture.

I used to wear a shirt that was modeled after the U.S. flag, but no real flag on it. And I never wore it as a photo op. Little is more disqusting to me than the politics of image, because those who practice it are 90 percent phoney baloney underneath. What a brainless cheerleader for that stunt. She needs to get real. Far better that she respect the flag than use one as a blanket.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"If Palin cannot handle the heat ...." Buddha4brains... is this thinly veiled sexism? Did you want to say that she should

... stay out of the kitchen?

How dare you sir! And fie on your agenda!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Palin also cast herself as a victim

Why are the Republicans such a bunch of whiners? They lose an election and suddenly look more hopeless than the Democrats ever have. Read the Drudge Report. It's just whinge, whinge, whinge, nothing constructive at all. If the GOP want to be a viable opposition they need to get their act together pretty soon. Dumping Palin, a confirmed idiot, would be a good start.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Klein2-""If Palin cannot handle the heat ...." Buddha4brains... is this thinly veiled sexism? Did you want to say that she should

... stay out of the kitchen?"

Oh, dear. Here we go. Lipstick on a pig all over again. No saying beginning with a man can be applied to Palin, such as "A man is not an island", because Palin is a woman. And you cannot apply any sayings that have anything to do with womankind to her either, no matter how popularly they are used, because that would be sexist. Somebody needs to tell the Republicans that reverse discrimination is still discrimination.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Somebody needs to tell the Republicans that reverse discrimination is still discrimination" Somebody needs to tell BeaverCleaver to get a sense of humor. I tried to insert some clues there for you, beave. Don't be goofy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

By the way, I do not think that you need to play six degrees of separation with this one, but the "higher calling" quote kind of made me remember that SOME people are starting to link the Palin family to Scientology. It has something to do with the leader of her PAC being a Scientology lawyer. If anyone is interested, root around that rumor a little and see what you find. I know that people are waiting for the other shoe to drop. Maybe this is it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

hating palin has nothing to do with the fact that she is a white women, and everything to do with her lack of a brain.

And the Hate Palin 2009 tour keeps rollin on. It has nothing to do with her supposed lack of brain power. That really does make me laugh. Especially after listening to a speech by Joe Biden. It has to do with the fact thats she is rich, conservative, white, and successful. Add to that, the ultimate crime, shes a woman. A woman who dares to stand up for what she believes in. There is no greater crime to a loon, then this. So please, keep on hating on Palin, you just show yourselves for what you really are.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow. Could you imagine the kind of backlash if Sarah Palin was Vice President of America? Calling herself a victim and resigning before her term is up (in a time of DIRE need) is irresponsible for one in a position of leadership, and she has aspirations of a 'higher calling' as well? I hope those callings are far away from Republicans, for their sake.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

successful

she was a resounding failure in the election. managed to more or less single-handedly bring down the good ship McCain. exposed herself to be clearly incapable of national governance. she may have "succeeded" in winning office in alaska, but that does not indicate directly that she was the best person for the job. i'm all for successful women, but only if their success is warranted by their abilities

0 ( +0 / -0 )

hopefully her higher calling involves me never having to hear about her ever again

As a financial terrorist (and dear friend of the Federal Reserve) Hussein Obama is doing quite well. =Charge it! or Print it! =ObamaDollars are falling from the Heavens (Manna to some) while 90% starve.

Is this article about Obama? Which 90% are starving?

I think Palin can probably make a lot more money as a candidate, both as a guest speaker and as a fund raiser, than she can as a governor. I think she's probably smart to do so at this time. I think her window of opportunity will be very small.

If she is going to unite the country around conservative ideals, that's fine. To date, however, she hasn't shown any particular ability to unite the conservative party around her version of conservative ideals. I think that part of the reason that is so is because of her statement that "this is about country". It isn't about country. It's about people.

Despite her dig at Obama at leaving before his term of office was up, she has not yet had the good grace to tell us how she is going to serve the public. Obama did leave his office, but he did not leave public service and he did not leave a dissatisfied constituency. Will Palin serve the public or will she serve herself?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The left always goes on about political correctness and not putting people down because of their race, creed or color.

The moment Sarah Palin opened her mouth and removed all doubt in the minds of intelligent people that she is a mindless conservative who abuses authority and divides America up between "real Americans" (like her) and "the rest," she hung a target on herself.

The scene of "Mrs. Pit-Bull Hockey-Mom" running for the hills when the onslaught of pucks came is just too beautiful to behold. Hell yeah!

America has suffered enough through John & Kate + 8 and Bush & Dick + Hate, and we finally have a decent person in the White House. We don't need the embarrassment of the latest chapter of the Palin Family Drama playing itself out on the national stage.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It has to do with the fact thats she is rich, conservative, white, and successful.

No. It has to do with a combination of ignorance and arrogance.

Conservatives are very, very angry and bitter people. And so they hunger for a candidate who is malicious enough to allow them to take it out on their political opponents. No nice, decent folks like the Obamas for them!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sailwind-"It's a fake photo beaver. Class once again from the smear Palin crowd in the media. "

Ok. So you agree that if Palin actually did wrap herself in the flag, it would be a disgusting display of "worn on the sleeve" phoney patriotism? If not, how would you charactize it? What do you think the intent is of the people who faked that picture? Another shot at old sayings and common utterances with new innuendo, such as "pig in a blanket"? Seriously Sailwind, I want to know. Please answer.

Please, she could not handle the heat sop she bailed. What does the far right say? Let us find out

Ah yes,"I am a victim!" cry my a river. Sarah Palin wants to play the victim card well let us then play the far right response to that card.....

Let us play a game, let us play who made the quote......Ok far right wingers let us play.....

"Character matters; leadership descends from character."

"She sounds like a screeching ex-wife."

Now guess what far right winger said that and then place Palin's name in front.

Please she could not hack it as CIC of one of the smallest states. What in your gods name makes you believe that she will ever be able to handle anything else?

Please, she broke a promise to the people of Alaska for what? A so called higher calling.......Sad....

Yeah, she's signed up to play president in Scary Movie 5.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Beaver,

You answered your own question to me.

What do you think the intent is of the people who faked that picture?

You said in part when you saw that picture. "What a brainless cheerleader for that stunt."

The intent of the fakers is keep re-enforcing that stereotype of a brainless cheerleader in anyway they can.

I looked at her record the day she became McCain's nominee. I liked what I saw. She took on the Republican good ole boy network that ran Alaska like a personal fiefdom, and took them down. She got the State Government under fiscal control and I could go on, but the bottom line is after looking at her record as Governor and Mayor she did a good job.

I know she is not a brainless cheerleader. I saw that photo and based on what I have learned about her, outside of the media and the bloodlust they have for her. The real story of her record. The first thought I had, Fake photo.

Did a quick internet search and what a shocker it was. It's just another cheezy variant on the, "Palin wears an American Flag bikini photo", that emerged on the net about a week after she was nominated. The lefties bought that crap hook line and sinker also. Fits the stereotype that Palin and right wing conservatives are trailer trash buffoons, quite well. Gun, Beer, Bikini, no clue that the flag is being dis-respected, while calling yourself a patriot.

http://www.snopes.com/photos/politics/palin.asp

I have a feeling also that even after this post, people will still have that stereotype in their heads. It is that firmly entrenched now. You didn't even flinch when you first saw the original photo that it wasn't fake after all.

My honest answer.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ok here are some Palin quotes that gives you an insight into who this person WANTS to make you believe she is but has proven time and again that she is not.....

Speech delivered on Aug 29, 2008 at Dayton Ohio Politics isn't just a game of competing interests and clashing parties. The people of America expect us to seek public office and to serve for the right reasons. And the right reason is to challenge the status quo and to serve the common good.

The people expect us to seek office and serve for the right reason....But not finish what you told the people you would do.....

I accept the challenge of a tough fight in this election against confident opponents at a crucial hour for our country. Source: Acceptance Speech at Republican Convention Sep 3 2008

Oh wait I am a victim and I can not handle the heat, so I quit.....LOL

No one expects us to agree on everything. But we are expected to govern with integrity, good will, clear convictions, and ... a servant's heart. Source: Acceptance Speech at Republican Convention Sep 3 2008

Or until we feel like a VICTIM......Oh they do not like me.....LOL My my so quick to quit......LOL

Well, it's always, though, safer in politics to avoid risk, to just kind of go along with the status quo. But I didn't get into government to do the safe and easy things. Source: Speech delivered on Aug 29, 2008 at Dayton Ohio

No she just got into government to be a quitter.....Americans hate quitters....But we hate whiners even more.....well unless you are a far righter trying to defend your so called hero.....LOL

But listening to him (Barack Obama) speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform - not even in the state Senate. Source: Acceptance Speech at Republican Convention Sep 3 2008

But he never quit nor has broken the faith of the people who elected him....But you did.....Saaaaad....LOL

I never really set out to be involved in public affairs, much less to run for this office. Source: Speech delivered on Aug 29, 2008 at Dayton Ohio

Yep that is why she can quit and walk away from the people for her higher calling!LOL

You far right wingers are soooooooOOOOoooo funny....Always saying things about being patriotic or how we as Americans never quit. But the if things get too hot, you run and hide. Then you yell that you are being abused.....LOL

Media bias huh, try looking at who owns the media before you yell that silly comment....LOL

Sarge says,

And Senator Egan is a Democrat. Of course he's going to say Palin should apologize.

So Alaskans who are Democrats have no valid opinion about what their governor does? Kind of a pathetic democracy if you accept that all commentary is invalid if it comes from the other side.

Sad fact is that Palin is leaving her post early to seek a "higher calling" for no discernible good reason.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"So Alaskans who are Democrats have no valid opinion about what their governor does?"

No, but don't expect them to support their governor if their governor is a Republican.

"Palin is leaving her post early to seek a "higher calling" for no discernible reason"

It's only discernible to you.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry, I meant it's only NOT discernible to you.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Not being from Alaska, shouldn't comment on this, but the situation seems quite clear. Either Gov Palin is resigning for political reasons or for personal reasons. If for political reasons, like she is going to run for president and doesn't want the encumbrance of being a governor, it seems fair enough, but shouldn't she come out and say so? Or, if it is personal, and she really has had enough of being a public figure, with all the criticism and nastiness that goes on, again fair enough. But isn't there a sense here that it is really reason 1 - political - but that it is too early, politically, to declare as such, so reason 2 - personal - is being put forward. If Gov Palin doesn't like the kind of attention she got since coming onto the national stage, maybe she isn't cut out for the job?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"all the nastiness and criticism that goes on"

Incredible, isn't it?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I find it telling how a lot of conservatives have been horrified at the way the 'Left' is skewering Sarah Palin and yet are in most cases incapable of expressing why - even IF - they actually support this woman.

I believe many conservatives - in particular those on JT - actually agree with the 'Left' that Sarah Palin is a clueless hard-Right idiot.

But due to their political leanings and a fervant desire not to look like they are betraying the party they claim to support, these same conservatives are simply not putting their disdain for Sarah Palin into words.

That's understandable.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge, I think you would even agree that Sarah Palin wasn't really suitable to lead the USA, let alone lead a pack of soccer moms on a trip to the country of Africa in an attempt to see Russia from her window.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"these same conservatives are simply not putting their disdain for Sarah Palin into words"

We conservatives don't have disdain for Sarah Palin, we have immense respect for the woman.

I support this wonderful woman because of what she's done for her family and her state.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Sarge, I think you wouuld even agree that sarah Palin wasn't really suitable to lead the USA"

You would think that, and you would be wrong.

Sarah Palin is more suitable to lead the USA than our current rookie president Barack Obama.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"all the nastiness and criticism that goes on"

[Sarge]

Incredible, isn't it?

Not really. Goes back to McGovern 1972 at least. It's all part of the game both sides play. So, if Gov Palin isn't up for it, she should look for another job.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge - "We conservatives don't have disdain for Sarah Palin, we have immense respect for the woman. I support this wonderful woman because of what she's done for her family and her state."

That, my friend, is one of the key reasons the GOP was hammered in the last election.

You will remember in yesterday's thread about Sarah Palin, Sailwind was railing against the attacks from the 'left' against Sarah Palin, claiming they were behind her downfall.

Sailwind was wrong.

What was behind not crushing defeat of not only Sarah Palin, but also Sen. McCain and the entire GOP last November - was the support of conservatives like yourself and Sailwind.

To put it a little crudely, your support for these individuals - in particular Sarah Palin - 'humored' them in a way that made them think they were credible to the point of being electable.

They continued campaigning, pushing a hard-edge brand of Conservatism that after 8 years of Bush, the U.S. electorate had had more than enough of.

This intense frustration with 8 years of Bush, and then seeing the McCain/Palin ticket talking of bringing more of the same was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Had a more moderate, sensible, intelligent VP candidate been chosen - ie: someone who was the complete opposite of Sarah Palin - the GOP may have had a chance.

We all saw that wasn't the case.

Sarge, the support of yourself and thousands of other conservatives for such a horrifically under-qualified, misunderintelligible, outright liar (see my post on this yesterday) of a candidate as was Sarah Palin were fundamental to putting the GOP underground and out of action last election.

In essence, it was not the MSM or 'liberals' that smashed the GOP out of the ballpark last year - conservatives have no one to blame but themselves for bringing down the GOP.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarah Palin has proved she is a quitter who is not up to the job of Govenor. If she decides to delve further into the political arena and run for president, she will succeed in 3 areas:

1/ - She will further split and divide America

2/ - She will be largely responsible for many more years of Democratic rule.

3/ She will confirm to the outside world that Americans do not take politics seriously.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

PS: Sarge, if you reply, please write more than simply 'No it's not.' or something similar.

Thank you.

sailwind-"You said in part when you saw that picture. "What a brainless cheerleader for that stunt."

Well, then, I guess it is fairly safe to say that you agree she would be a brainless cheerleader for posing in such a picture. Thank you. The picture is genuine. Its the July picture for her 2009 calendar.

Feeling gobsmacked?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I followed the US election last year with intense interest, but the thing that really blew my braincells out my ears was the fact that so many conservatives actually thought Sarah Palin had a shot.

Behind the folksy winks, chatty lines and wide smile, she was the type of vacuous airhead who only enters national politics about as frequently as Halley's Comet visits.

Her interviews with Katie Couric showed up what painfully little intellect and general knowledge she had, and how woefully unprepared she was to handle a minor TV interview, let alone the office of president.

She has quit, and America is better off for it.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The runny thing is, the rest of the world have called the shots of American politics more accurately over the last 9 years than U.S. conservatives have.

The rest of the world has called out bush as a destructive idiot, called out the invasion of Iraq as misguided, called out Saddam's WMD as being a pipe dream, and called out Sarah Palin as being an airhead.

Rest of the world - 4 U.S. conservatives - 0.

That's funny. :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Damn, Sarge, do you have any life outside of JT? And do you think you've converted many people or just confirmed their beliefs about the weirdness of the GOP and its supporters? BTW could you state that you believe Sarah Palin would be a good President? Just for the record? Thanks.

"A Higher Calling"

Maybe Sarah Palin can get US out of Iraq and Afghanistan, balance the budget, and create jobs --> All things Obama has failed on. =I would write the book then in 6-12month declare myself available for the Presidency since in 6-12 months things will only be worse (time is on her side)

Add to that, the ultimate crime, shes a woman.

Yet all these people have no problem with other women in power. Yes and you can add white, rich, successful and still people like those women. Molenir has to try to convince people it is anything rather than what it is. It is that she is a conservative extremist. More and more of the population thinks she is not very intelligent. The conservatives try to convince us here. They are quite desperate. They are losing more ground every day. Palin represents their ideals in the conservative movement. Those ideals have been rejected. Palin has been rejected because of the issues those conservatives hold dear. sarge plays the fantasy game he always has. Pretending at one time she would be V.P. and beat the Obama/Biden ticket. Now he wants to pretend that she will be president; let him have his fantasy. He needs to cling on to things like that. The conservative outlook is so bleak that you see everything from false accusations to grandiose projections of success for the party of the irrelephant; the beast that wanders around the wilderness sticking its head in the sand half the time and shrieking the rest of the time.

Class once again from the smear Palin crowd in the media. The Atlantic is a premier left leaning magazine, they went with this obvious fake no questions asked.

The photo is from the official "Sarah Palin calendar" showing our monthly pinup gal for July 2009. The Atlantic Monthly has been a respected chronicler of issues affecting the United States for well over a hundred years, despite the smears and misinformation from Palin's ignorant supporters.

Some people actually do try and be non-partisan you know. Rather than rub all this in your face, I would be happy if you would just reflect on your accusations. This "liberal bias" overdone paranoia is really getting old.

Between all the gun sales and these calendars -it will only be a matter of months until we are out of this recession.

sailwind, you hav some 'spaining to do !!!

I have told you about sailwind's fervent feelings before. He is Palin's personal defender. Now he has made it clear that if Palin had wrapped herself in the flag that she would be disrespecting the flag. It turns out Sarah Palin wrapped herself in the flag for to hawk calendars.

Palin links resignation to 'higher calling'

Maybe Palin's higher calling is the 2010 calendar?

I think what we are seeing is how the conservative mind works. The ones that claim we hate Palin because we criticize her can't conceive of it any other way. It just goes to show they do hate many of the people they totally disagree with. It is no problem for me to disagree with someone and yes, be highly critical of them without hating them. When you see how those conservatives have defined hate on these two threads it is clear they actually hate people they criticize.

I don't hate Sarah Palin but I enjoy making fun of her.

Sara Palin had no chance at Presidency because she is a white woman. Two no-nos for left leaning dope heads these days. They prefer anyone who is slightly off to show how politically correct they are. Obama was more their man. He is black, raised in a muslim country, has a middle name of Hussein and so just fits that he's got to be "the man man". Oh and did I mention, He's a great speaker too. But besides that what has he really done? Not that Palin has done much more but come on. She's white. And being white in this day and age is just not fashionable. We know all racists are white.

I would expect more talk about Venezuela soon.

Jeeze....2 articles and over 260 messages. You guys are guaranteeing that the media is going to put Palin on the front page as often as possible. Congrats.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You are all missing the obvious, she quite because she’s got a better job, she’s “found god” & is now on a mission. The Palin crusade across America. Well we all know that there is some serious money to be made out of religion in the US & you don’t need brains to make it either. Can’t you just see it, small town USA, the brightly lit marquee with the organ music blasting out, the cripples (physical & mental) coming to hear the healing words? And pay the price.

God & the gun will defend America. America’s St.Joan is here to lead the way.

That "higher calling" might just mean she is also hearing voices, it is possible, she has been under a lot of stress.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Bottom line is very simple - she is NOT a credible candidate. Politics have nothing to do with it, it wouldn't matter is she was communist, socialist, fascist, big government, small government, Republican, or Democrat. She is not credible, period. As to the reasons why she is treated as a credible candidate by so many people, now that would be a news story.

Wolfpack at 12:39 AM JST - 6th July It's amazing how popular Palin stories are on JT. The Left really hates her.

Actually it is not that the Center or the left hate Palin. We really do not hate her. The thing is we on the Center and the left see her for what she stands for and we hate that.

The reason we fight with you far right wingers over the Palin issue is that we are trying to save America from what she represents. You seem too draped in party loyalty that you do not want to see that. Party before country has caused great nations to fall.

Other things that you do not seem to want to see;

We also do not understand why you guys are so blinded by her. She is ill prepared to lead anything larger than a town.

Her knowledge of world affairs is as vast as her earpiece tells her.

You are only as good as the folks around you. Just look at her personal staff and you can see what type of leader she is.

Leaders are expected to complete what they started and not walk away when it gets too hot.

She drapes herself in the flag but does not understand the Constitution. She seems not to understand which of the two is more important and why.

She cries that she is being attacked because she is a strong woman. But if Hillary were to say that, the far right would say she is acting like a girl.

She plays with politics like a bull in a china shop. She just does not understand that words can lead to violence.

Really odd how the far right gushes at a supposed strong woman. But put a D in front of that woman's name and she is nothing more than a shrill.

Yes, I am talking about Hillary Clinton and no I do not like her. But if you compare the two, Hillary is by far better suited to lead than Palin.

I myself would not vote for either but if forced too I would chose Hillary over Palin for our nations sake. Palin just does not get it while Clinton has it hands down over her.

I expect to see responses from the far right about the looks and shapes of the women. But, that goes to show how little regard they hold for our nations future.

They would rather pick looks over brains. Goes to show what the far right really use to think with. Maybe that is why they like Dick Cheney so much.....LOL

The Republicans continue to doubt Palin:

"If this is geared for her run for the presidency in 2012, it is one of the most politically tone deaf decisions that we've seen," said Stuart Roy, a Republican consultant.

/

"I would think, if you want to run for president -- [covers ass] and I'm not sure that's got anything to do with what she's doing -- that the forum of a governorship would be a better forum than just being a private citizen," Grassley said today.

/

A former aide to Sen. John McCain called Palin's decision, "one more odd decision in a series of odd decisions" that play into a negative image of the soon-to-be former governor.

Palin twitters on:

"I hope you will join me," it said. "Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness! God bless you! And I look forward to making a difference -- with you!"

George Will, one of Nancy Reagan's best friends and highly respected Republican proponent said:

"The one that rings most hollow is, she doesn't want to put Alaska through the terror of [her] being a lame-duck governor," George Will said. "If she is just weary of it, one can understand that. Still, she made a contract with [voters] to serve out her term. And she said, in her own words, she now is a quitter."

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska released this one-line statement: "I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded." Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s Republican colleagues, just weeks ago, elected her to a top spot in their organization — vice chairman.vice chairman of the Senate Republican Conference. It's the fifth-highest GOP leadership position. Her election was the latest advancement to reflect the confidence and respect she has gained on her own in Washington, D.C. Earlier this year, she secured the top Republican post on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. She also got a spot on the Senate Appropriations Committee

It is not clear what her strategy here is by exiting the governorship 2½ years through the term and putting herself on the national stage that she may not yet be prepared to operate in." Karl Rove

Whether it is Republican consternation or Republican bewilderment Palin cannot be happy with some of the Republican response.

goodDonkey at 09:10 AM JST - 6th July Whether it is Republican consternation or Republican bewilderment Palin cannot be happy with some of the Republican response.

Very good point, I too believe the majority of Republicans have found this move something strange. The only Republicans who agree with her move have been the far right of the party and the extreme party loyal members.

I still do not understand how the far right thinks this ill prepared person could run a state let alone a nation. Well, maybe she could run the nation of Monaco, it has the population of a small town....LOL

Your internet rumor about Palin wrapping her up in an American flag, got started in Sept 2008. It was suppose to have originated in Newsweek. Good luck finding it there by the way.

Seeing since there was no Palin calender in 2008 it's pretty funny it just nows shows up on The Atlantics doorstep.

You'd think there would have been an outcry when Newsweek was suppose to have ran that photo in Sept 2008.

It's a fake people

Amazon has the calendar for sale (It's the 2009 calendar, not 2008), and customer reviews refer to the 'flag' photo.

Seems a personal friend of Palin's who is a Wasilla-based photographer put the calendar together from photos 'amassed over her years of friendship with the Alaskan governor', the aim being to earn money to buy a new home.

This has been a shocking last few weeks for the GOP with Ensign, Sanford, and Al Franken and now with Sarah Palin quitting, the conservatives' long winter just got longer.

The last man standing is Newt Gingrich and as far as I know, that's it.

As I said in another post, conservatives have no one to blame but themselves for the disintegration of the GOP we are now witnessing.

After 8 disastrous years of Bush/Cheney, the worst recession in 80 years that started on Bush's watch, Sen. McCain's barrel-scraping decision to pick Sarah Palin for his VP candidate that slammed the door on his presidential chances coupled with a heart-piercing string of resignations and scandals, it's really hard to see how the GOP is going to recover without offloading the Christian wing and moving more toward the center.

If Sarah Palin is given any senior position whatsoever in the GOP, her extremist brand of conservatism will only divide America further, alienate the GOP even more and guarantee even more years of the party wandering in the political wilderness.

All that said, I would like to personally thank Sarge, teleprompter, RomeoRamen, Bushlover and other conservatives for destroying the GOP with their support for Sarah Palin.

America thanks you. :-)

Face it sailwind you, yourself, characterized the act of wrapping the flag around herself as disrespectful. Now you have to live with it. Will you man up and say Palin was disrespectful to the flag?

Palin links resignation to "higher calling." Sailwind links to 404 Page Not Found.

Whether or not Sarah Palin was disrespectful to the flag is a side show to the concrete fact she is a card-carrying quitter.

I think the motivation of her quitting is important. There could be good reasons for a Governor to resign; but self serving interests are not one of them. I don't care if Palin wraps herself in the flag. I merely pointed out that sailwind made his opinions well known before he now realizes the pics are real.

GoodDonkey - thanks for the links to the Sarah Palin calendar.

I've only just stopped laughing my a*se off at the sample pictures.

I'm guessing we'll be seeing a lot of those calendar pages being tacked to dart boards in pubs across America for desparate conservatives to take out their frustrations on the woman who put a bomb under their chances of ever winning in 2008. :-)

A quitter it a quitter is a quitter, no matter whether the photos are real or fake. :-)

sailwind was given the newsbusters link. He knows they are real. He just can't admit he is wrong.

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2008/12/27/sarah-palin-2009-calendar-amazon-best-seller

It wasn't my links that convinced me. It was the link that BeaverCleaver provided of the youtube video with Pat Buchanan physically holding up the calendar and talking about it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naIwSMsC-yY

Believe me sailwind has been there and has seen the truth. He has also been to newsbusters.org and saw the truth. He knows if he has to admit that the picture is real then he must characterize Palin as being disrespectful to the flag. Nobody can get sailwind to admit that he looked at the youtube video. He would lose every argument trying to discredit it if he admits he has seen it. Nobody can get sailwind to admit that he went to the newbusters.org link I posted above. If he has to admit that he went to the link he has to admit that newsbusters is b.s. or that Palin is disrespectful to the flag. That would take honesty, integrity and real character to man up like that.

I am eternally indebted to BeaverCleaver for exposing the truth. I only did follow up work and provided examples of credible sources to prove it as an indisputable fact. You can see Buchanan hold the calendar and opening the calendar. Later in the video you can see Morning Joe holding up the calendar.

Did the folks here at JT see the pic with the shotgun on her shoulder?

How is she going to outdo herself for the 2010 calendar?

So as I see it we need to add to her "higher calling." Write (or whatever) her book, book tour, lecture tour, 2010 calendar, hawk funds for her candidacy, announce, fall flat on her face.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

IMO Palin has comitted political suicide by dumping her job with 18 months left to run.

But I always find it ominus when the God Squad start talking about "higher callings"....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

goodDonkey-"I am eternally indebted to BeaverCleaver for exposing the truth."

Thank you for saying so. I was wondering if anyone had even tried my link! It was my pleasure. But I have to admit, it took some real scraping.

When sailwind declared it a fake, I thought "uh-oh". But then I looked at his "proof". Just because its in a list of funny pictures does not make it fake. Then I looked at the link you provided and noticed the other pics next to it and the word "July" under it. I thought, who would bother to make a fake calendar? Many searches turned up a calendar and a description of that pic, but no actual pic to compare it to. Without an actual pic, it is shakey ground to say its real. Thought I hit a brick wall but then I turned to good ole youtube. Bingo! That video says it all.

About disrespecting the flag, I don't actually mind so much. My biggest problem is just the tackiness and the phoney-feel. I am surprised her knights in shining armor have not pointed out that many of us don't whine as much when somebody burns the flag. Trouble is, a protester KNOWS he is disrespecting the flag. I don't approve of either action, but at least the protestor knows what he is doing. That makes a big difference. As does the fact that he or she is just a protestor. Someone in Palin's position really ought to know better. And I say again, the politics of image make me want to barf.

Anyway, don't be too hard on Sailwind everybody. I set him up to decry Palin a bit by his own standards, but only for educational purposes, and not to hurt Sailwind. He is one of the better conservatives here I think. And remember, you could be next, and it might just be Sailwind deciding whether to treat you nice or pulverize you, so give him a break and don't get cocky.

She drapes herself in the flag but does not understand the Constitution. She seems not to understand which of the two is more important and why.

When someone says this (bold) they are not saying it in a literal sense.

drape/wrap yourself in the flag

to pretend to do something for your country when you are really doing it for your own advantage

That is what I believe that Palins has always done and in this case there is nothing new or different.

She has decided to abandon her post and begin to change her image. But alas, she is no Eliza Doolittle and there is no Henry Higgins. So the chances of her changing her flawed image are nil at best......

Sad how the far right falls all over someone like her.......

It's a fake people....You've been had.

And remember, you could be next, and it might just be Sailwind deciding whether to treat you nice or pulverize you, so give him a break and don't get cocky.

The problem arises when ample evidence is provided about the Sarah Palin photo taken by someone who claims to be a "long-time resident or Wasilla" -- Judy Patrick -- whom Palin must know. On Patrick's website, the blurb for the calendar says: "Over 50 photographs of Sarah and her family."

If someone was to be presented with that kind of evidence and still, like a petulant child, claimed he was right on the basis of dead links and innocuous, unattributable comments, why would he expect a break from others? Anyone can be wrong, but someone who won't admit it doesn't deserve much respect.

You have to say why she is this great leader that you and your party has said she is. So come now, convince the rest of us to vote for her.

BTW, I have given most of the counter points of her ill prepared abilities in my posts above. Each time I have asked for someone on the far right to counter them, but for some reason they remain unanswered.

The other shoe will drop soon when Palin is charged with tax evasion while being governor of AK. She knows this is coming and basically wanted to get out ahead of the issue so she does not resign under pressure.

Anyway, she is a quitter for sure. This is yet another job she has left early for whatever reason. She is trying to fail her way to success like bush junior did but her daddy is not GHW Bush.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sarge "The non-capitalization of the first letters of Sarah Palin's first and last name is a pathetic attempt by Taka313 to belittle this great woman."

Oh come on. Really now. I read your comments and say, yeah, ok, uh-huh. But then I get to this. Great woman? Great woman? I mean in a sense, my mom is a Great woman, but what can you really be thinking here? Seriously. A mayor of a small town, a former VP candidate, and an uncompleted term as governor. Aside from that, I have met thousands like her. Community colleges, God, and five kids, or more like four and a cherry on top.

So is it Great like Abraham Lincoln or Steve McNair or Michael Jackson? Or as in the Great State of Kansas or the Great Karl Malden? The Great Meyer Lansky. The Great Barry Goldwater. Just not sure what she did to make you think she was great. What could be the standard? Or are you just a really POSITIVE GUY? Has the American football pre-season started yet? Very well stated, but I would not hold my breath for an answer. You see, every chance I get I too ask the far right,"why do you think she is so great?". To date not a one has responded with more than ,"because all she's done in her life."

The more you ask, the less and less they say.

None of the far righters here can give you an answer because they do not know. They are just marching in lock step to the same drummer. The only problem with this is, they do not see that they are about to go over a cliff.

I again bellow out and ask ,"What has Palin done to make her your parties standard-bearer?" come come now don't fall all over each other trying to be the first to answer.....LOL

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Heh, buddy - why am I not surprised to see you defending this lady?

Reread my post again. Did you see me defending her? Answer is no. I did say that she looks good compared to the Obamanation, but then, anyone looks good compared to him. So thats not exactly the greatest feat.

LOL, you are funny,"these clowns" have been in office less than a year and you are blaming them for this economy? Wow, amnesia, you seem to have lost 8 years of the Bush administration.....LOL

No, I'm not blaming them for the economy under bush. I'm blaming them for the way they have completely and totally mismanged the economy since they took office. That and the way they seem to want to outdo Bush in his worst ways. Overspending on everything.

Next question why is Mrs Palin more competent than President Obama? Please, none of your ,"because she is" or ,"She rocks" or ,"He's a socialist". See those just will not do if you are trying to convince the people that Palin is better than Obama.

See above. Despite being ethically challenged, she has managed to keep the government of Alaska in the black. Compare that to the Obamanation and his desire to create the largest deficit in history. Pretty obvious who looks competent.

I again bellow out and ask ,"What has Palin done to make her your parties standard-bearer?" come come now don't fall all over each other trying to be the first to answer.....LOL

Who says shes the standard bearer? I mean hell, I like her. But if it came down to a choice between her and Romney, I'd vote for Romney. But thats just me.

Oh come on now Yabits. You know better then this. Its a nice spin, but lets look at this for what it is. You and your loonie friends have been hating on this woman for no reason at all for the past year. Now, she quits as Governor, and you finally have a legitimate reason. However the simple fact that shes stepping down also removes her as a legitimate target. Pointing out your issues with hating on the woman doesn't mean we're actually defending her. I think her stepping down was a mistake, however it was ultimately her choice. I agree that it removes any chance of her bing a viable candidate as either President, or any other nationally elected position again.

She will run in 2012 and the republicants candidates will eat her up for lunch. She is on a mission from God, just like Bush was. And we all know now what that lead the country to do.

The USA has had its fill of empty headed bible wampers who are proud that they think Africa is a country and its capital is Africa City.

Molenir at 08:40 AM JST - 7th July Who says shes the standard bearer? I mean hell, I like her. But if it came down to a choice between her and Romney, I'd vote for Romney. But thats just me.

I applaud you for your sincerity and honestly. I respect your comments and found them to be a good read.

If Mr Romney were to stay away from the far right religious closed eye politics he would be a good candidate.

If the Republicans are to stand a chance in the next elections then they better open their doors to the more moderate Conservatives rather than going hard line.

That is what really sank McCain and his last bid. If he would have picked Romney instead of Palin then many moderates would have gone to him. But he picked an ultra conservative and he lost his bid.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ahh come on goodDonkey, after a couple more years of the Obamaites in charge, you'll be begging to have Palin take over. Assuming there is anything left.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well, I know people are about ready to jump the thread, but this is really what it comes down to: If Obama succeeds, he will be re-elected. If he does not, then who knows? Will his performance be measured up against Bush, or against what some Republican is going to promise?

It is all a moot point if Obama does half of what he says he can. One added bit of risk is that he has Hillary there with him, so some big national security gaffe could sink them both. I was predicting that Georgia would be acting up by now. It has not happened yet, but Bush made a lot of friends here and there around the world, so it would be easy to ask for a payback right at about midterm elections, or 2012. If it made both Hillary and Obama look bad, so much the better, right? And do not tell me that the Neocon crew is above using out and out war to win elections, and don't tell me that Bush could not get on the phone right now to talk to Georgia's president about any old thing that crosses his mind. We will see....

Just watch for it. It is much easier to tear Obama down than offer something constructive to the American people, so I predict that is the route that Republicans will follow. To paraphrase Palin and Cheney, it is much easier to work "for change" when you are outside government than in it, perhaps especially because being in government entails oversight.

You and your loonie friends have been hating on this woman for no reason at all for the past year.

Completely wrong. I simply hate the fact that there are influential people who actually think this woman, who sounds like Sister Mary Elephant from an old Cheech and Chong routine, has what it takes to lead the United States.

If you gave people like this control of banks, auto companies, investment houses, etc., they'd probably screw them up royally.

Didn't get to see the video until today. They dis-able you tube on the computers where I work. The picture is real after all. And I was shocked. Due to all the hate and venom and crap thrown at the woman, and after as much dogged research as I could to actually find out if this was a real photo or not, and couldn't really find anything but far left blogs and parody sites that had it. I believe rational person would have come to the same conclusion. Thank you Beavercleaver for your dogged research and I do appreciate. I'd like to return the favor. Since the photo is real and was first posted in Newsweek last Sept in their profile of her, though you sure can't find it on their site for some weird reason, it was the first place I went after looking at the blogs, I had to ask myself this question. Such a juicy piece of authentic ammunition to throw at the woman, this photo is a godsend. The thought of Sarah Palin, wrapped up in flag for political advantage makes this veteran and conservative want to gringe and puke also.

Though before I would say that, there was something that was nagging me. Why didn't anybody really make a big deal about this photo? It was in a major publication, it has been in a calender now for 6 months, it isn't like the world hasn't seen it.

Took me awhile but I finally found out why. And to tell you truth when the photo was taken we were all wrapped up in the flag as Americans.

July's picture features Palin wrapped in the American flag, with a sidebar of pictures of her and her children.

The caption says: "This flag photo was taken just days after the terrorist attacks on 9/11 in 2001.

"Sarah, like the rest of the nation, was trying to cope with the attacks on American soil and demonstrating her patriotism."

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/the_real_american_idol/article1891567.ece

I've got no problem with that, no problem at all.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sailwind, page not found.

"I've got no problem with that, no problem at all."

Well, I do. I have a big problem with supposed leaders who crack under pressure. Its not as bad as putting down "My Pet Goat" and blinking dumbly into the distance, but its bad enough.

"we were all wrapped up in the flag as Americans."

Poetically. Not literally. It being after 9/11 just makes it more the photo op. If true, she has the same skills as those making profits off of Michael Jackson's death. The only reason I did not say something about it sooner was because I did not know about it. Either that, or she is pandering to emotionalism at a time when leaders should be encouraging reflection and not cheerleading. You do know where the cheerleading led us right? You do know that the kingpin of 9/11 is in parts unknown?

Thank you Beavercleaver for your dogged research and I do appreciate.

Cheers.

Wanted to add this also.

Now that I know this photo was taken in Sept 2001 right after the attacks, my respect for her just went up even more.

Poetically. Not literally. It being after 9/11 just makes it more the photo op.

She was just a small town Mayor in 2001. Photo-op for who? A town of 9000? She just knew in 2001 that she would day be Governor and one day a man named McCain would pick her to be his veep? Your not suggesting that she has some super powers of being able to see into the future are you?

Please, give me a break on that one. I'm also curious how did George Bush get into this discussion? Please don't tell me that your world is also totally Bush-centric also.

She does not.

"If you gave people like this control of banks, auto companies, investment houses, etc., they'd probably screw them up royally."

No, they wouldn't because they wouldn't take control of banks, auto companies, investment houses, they'd leave those in private hands and lower taxes to provide incentives, not screw them up royally, like the Obama administration.

Not only were Americans wrapping themselves in the flag right after 9 /11 the rest of the world joined in also.

A little reminder from France, right after 9 / 11.

We Are All Americans

Jean-Marie Colombani, Le Monde (liberal), Paris, France, Sept. 12, 2001.

In this tragic moment, when words seem so inadequate to express the shock people feel, the first thing that comes to mind is this: We are all Americans! We are all New Yorkers, just as surely as John F. Kennedy declared himself to be a Berliner in 1962 when he visited Berlin. Indeed, just as in the gravest moments of our own history, how can we not feel profound solidarity with those people, that country, the United States, to whom we are so close and to whom we owe our freedom, and therefore our solidarity? How can we not be struck at the same time by this observation: The new century has come a long way.

Literally wrapping oneself up in a flag does not show proper respect for the flag, according to those who claim to know these things. I only say this to those who might claim that showing proper respect for the American flag is important to them.

Of course, in the civil libertarian view, Palin is as free to use her flag as a robe as she is to sew it to the seat of her jeans or drag it along the seat of the car she's riding in.

She could not stick it out after barely HALF a term was up, and the sight of Republicans trying to turn that black event into white light is very amusing indeed.

The federal government had control of General Motors and City Bank before the 2008 election? Nope.

No, the folks who ran GM and CitiBank into the ground were the conservative types -- members of the Chamber of Commerce and Business Roundtables -- who ran crying to the government to bail them out when they got into trouble. Heck, Paulson was Goldman Sachs boy. How many companies did W run into the ground? (At least two.) That is Sarah Palin's America.

Game, set, match to Yabits.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'd say right after 9/11 most people were showing their love for our flag...

Any scoundrel or clueless woman can wrap themselves in a flag, as Palin did. Her contempt for her country came about in her comments about certain, very conservative places being "the real America."

In my view, respect for the flag is shown when one becomes mindful of how to treat it at all times. The flag has been around for quite awhile, and the U.S. has been through many wars and tough times, and I don't recall seeing any public figures -- mayors and such -- actually ever physically wrapping themselves up in one. Yes, I occasionally do see mindless fans at sporting events treating the flag that way.

Nonetheless, there are certain rules and guidelines for how to handle a flag with respect. What appears to be happening here is that those who normally are toughest on others with regards to respecting the flag are giving one of their own a completely free pass regarding a flagrant mishandling of it. Republicans want to be strict on everyone else, and then bend the rules when their behavior is shown up to be just as much in violation of established codes. OK, new rule: It's ok to drape a flag over yourself as long as something really bad just happened to the country, and only if you're a Republican.

Had a picture of Michelle Obama surfaced where she was caught wearing the flag as a robe, many conservatives would be showing outrage. (Just as they showed outrage when a picture of Barack floated that showed him with his feet propped up on the desk of the Oval Office....until an identical picture of W. popped up with him in the same position.)

Fox news turns on Palin now, calling her a flake. Once again the liberals lead the way and the conservatives, at least the sane ones, follow.

Even Fox News has started to turn on Sarah Palin. In the midst of a segment about the Alaska Governor's battle against "liberal" attacks, Liz Trotta went off-message.

Frankly, "the woman is inarticulate, undereducated," Trotta said, arguing that for once liberal criticism was "well-deserved."

"I think all the liberal stylists ... really have a case. She just begs for adjectives like flaky and wacky." When pressed, she added, "We're talking about somebody who, right from the get-go, has been a flashy person who gets into a lot of trouble and really has no credentials for any job."

Game, Set, Match Liberals. Goodbye Failin Palin. The republicants need to find someone new, if there is anyone left, to fly the kamikazi flight in 2012 against the towering and successful Obama.

I am so grateful to the senile McCain, who I voted for in 2000 when he was still lucid, for picking Palin as VP. Just one more nail in the republican coffin that bush built and pretty much finished on his own.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yabits, as I posted elsewhere, conservatives have major trouble with NPOV. Nobody is perfect with regards to that, but nobody does family bias like a conservative. They do it like there is no tomorrow. Thank goodness for the internet and modern recording technology, because its hard to remember all the hypocrisy, in fact, I prefer to forget lest it make me bitter! But thanks to modern tech, I can call it all up fast and not have to drag it around whereever I go.

"For some reason J.T isn't allowing my links to work."

Thank you for trying Sailwind, but I believe you. No need for the link. You are a man of your word. That does not mean I believe every word, as we all make mistakes, but if you say you did it and said you checked it, I believe you did. No sweat.

"I'd say right after 9/11 most people were showing their love for our flag and country"

I would agree that they were trying. (Very trying in fact!) But they got caught up in the moment and they lost their sense. That is my core problem. Sense is paramount for a leader, even if its the leader of a small town, but particularly an ambitious one. Sure, she did not know the future then, but I guarantee you she was dreaming big, and would say odds are that ambition was more than half of her reason for using the flag like a blanket.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

OK, new rule: It's ok to drape a flag over yourself as long as something really bad just happened to the country, and only if you're a Republican.

Had a picture of Michelle Obama surfaced where she was caught wearing the flag as a robe, many conservatives would be showing outrage.

I hardly doubt if the situation were reversed and Michelle Obama felt to express her love for her country right after 9/11, the same way as Sarah Palin did there would be any difference in the showing of any real outrage by anybody left or right.

There wasn't any showing of real outrage when this picture ran in Newsweek last year by the left or the right almost all Americans can understand it and the reasons behind it. This isn't a Democrat thing and it isn't a Republican thing it is an American thing.

Now that we all know the whole story behind the picture and the circumstances that it was taken under, your trying to turn this into some partisan debate to prove your political point comes off at least to me as petty. Good luck with getting most Americans riled up over a picture of Sarah Palin wearing a flag right after 9/11 as some sort major sin.

If she or Michelle would have done something like that during the election campaign or to score some political advantage, I'd be right with you Yabits on the condemnation. Right after 9/11, I would think all Americans would and should get a pass on how they expressed their unity as one people.

It's the reason this photo was never touched by the Obama campaign to use agaisnt her. They were smart enough to know it would backfire, you might want to learn from that and move on to a different line of attack.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Zurc-"I am so grateful to the senile McCain, who I voted for in 2000 when he was still lucid"

In the primaries? I would have voted for him myself if he had made it to the race.

"The republicants need to find someone new, if there is anyone left, to fly the kamikazi flight in 2012 against the towering and successful Obama."

Don't be so sure. The Republicans are correct in stating that the economy will be an issue. Obama has been painted as "the magic negro" ( the mysterious black man who comes to the aid of the troubled white character in so many movies) but it is going to take a lot of magic to turn this plummetting bus around. My view is that nobody could do it. Nobody. But if the economy of Alaska booms for whatever reason, they will credit Palin in some way or another. A lot can happen in 3 and half years. Palin regaining credibility is possible. The nation's economy turning around? I don't think so. And the fickle public will look for someone to blame if the economy does not turn around. Just you wait and see.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

BeaverCleaver,

Yes, in the primaries as I knew Bush was a disaster back then. It after South Carolina where Bush said that McCain had a black baby so my vote was wasted.

Palin will not get credit for Alaska economy in any way. That is all linked to the price of oil which is set at international level.

Agree that economy is job one for Obama and he knows it. He has a tough job to do but most signs indicate currently that things are leveling off and in some areas even improving. If the economy turns around then the election is over, if its still muddled then it will still be very tough for the republicants as their party is a mess right now. Their brand is in the toilet thanks to Ensign, Sanford and Palin. Americans know that the current depression is owned by the republicans as well. Only white retired far right males care about the republican party right now.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Frankly, "the woman is inarticulate, undereducated," Trotta said, arguing that for once liberal criticism was "well-deserved."

Just wait and see. Sarah will be turned into a martyr for the cause. It wasn't her own lack of wordly smarts or kookiness that did her in -- traits well-documented and noted by many a conservative commentator -- it was liberal hatred and vilification.

I believe her rambling resignation speech -- which reminded me of the whacked-out monologue given by the character "Barbara Jean" in Altman's movie, Nashville -- was very revealing in another aspect: The image of the "point guard" looking for someone to pass the ball to when the heat of a full-court press is on. Hey, honey, when you are the leader, the buck stops with YOU when the pressure is on. You don't look for someone to pass it along to.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sure, she did not know the future then, but I guarantee you she was dreaming big, and would say odds are that ambition was more than half of her reason for using the flag like a blanket.

Beaver, I am going to respectfully differ with you on that. I don't believe it was ambition that drove her at that moment, although she is a very, very ambitious person. You've got to be to give up a governorship for no apparent reason other than a "higher calling." As one conservative commentator noted: "You don't hold press conferences in order to raise important questions; you hold them to answer the questions."

No, the reason she draped that flag around her was because she felt it was perfectly OK to do that. When a person's OWN view of their motivations comes with so much self-righteousness, it is nothing for them to take a venerated object and treat it in a way that normally would not be seen as showing respect for it. After all, everyone should know how much I love America, and so it won't be anything for me to wrap a flag around myself and parade in public with it.

Sarah's actions don't bother me as much as those of the Republicans who appear to throw rules and conventions to the wind as long as their ends and purposes are being achieved.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If she or Michelle would have done something like that during the election campaign or to score some political advantage, I'd be right with you Yabits on the condemnation. Right after 9/11, I would think all Americans would and should get a pass...

I don't have a big problem with Sarah or Michelle draping a flag around themselves. (But I know that neither are showing proper respect for the flag when they do so.) I have a problem with people who think they are the voice of God who can condemn one person for doing it under any number of circumstances, but give a pass to another person.

I would expect someone who claims to love America a lot to understand what proper respect for the flag means, and is able to control themselves at all times regarding its handling.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So let me get this straight. When it was a photoshopped pic of Sarah Palin draped in the flag of the United States of America it was disrespectful to the flag. But since it was real she did it in the right context. No disrespect to the flag.

Liberals call Sarah Palin a dolt and they are haters. sailwind calls the Obama administration "idiots" but he is not a hater. sailwind called the Obama administration "idiots" in the right context.

It seems like you can get away with just about anything if you do it in the right context. The problem with liberals is they refuse to do things in the right context.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well...my mild case of a bad taste in my mouth regarding sarah palin just got a little worse:

Fair or unfair, I think she does herself a disservice to even mention it...When I hear a statement like that coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism or, you know, maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think, man, that doesn't do us any good. Women in politics, women in general wanting to progress this country. I don't think it's, it bodes well for her -- a statement like that...It bothers me a little bit hearing her bring that attention to herself on that level."

here is your higher calling, its called greed for the easy, easy money. The rubes on this board who support palin will pay to read her books or see her on palin lost . . .

The former fiance of Gov. Sarah Palin's 18-year-old daughter says he thinks he knows why the Alaska governor is resigning — concerns over money. Levi Johnston, 19, whose wedding to Bristol Palin was called off earlier this year, says he believes the governor is resigning over personal finances. Johnston says he lived with the Palin family from early December to the second week in January. He claims he heard the governor several times say how nice it would be to take advantage of the lucrative deals that were being offered, including a reality show and a book."I think the big deal was the book. That was millions of dollars," said Johnston, who has had a strained relationship with the family but now says things have improved. Palin has a book deal, but compensation details haven't been disclosed. The governor has said she is facing more than $500,000 in legal fees.

She finally listened to the smarter people who told her that she should go hide somewhere for a while? Her daughter's bf sez she likes the book contract money better than being gov.

Maybe the media will give up on Palin and MJ too?
