By golly, she's going to have to delve into a lot more than that. Compromise without giving away too much from your own country is the name of the game with international affairs don'tcha know. She needs to visit ALL the countries the US has ties with and get the gist of where they're coming from before I'll even lend a brain cell to listen to her again.

I was just wondering if she could also see Hong Kong out of her kitchen window.

Seriously, why is this person still in the public spotlight. Surely the GOP would not consider her again for high office?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Many people walked out on her speech in disgust apparently.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She'll be running for office in 2012. This is just one in a line of many talks she'll be giving.

Now if Obama was talking in Hong Kong the GOP would be going off. In this case I think they are holding their breath. < :-)

Congrats Sarah, you got another foreign policy experience to your resume.

Alaska's proximity to Russia, Your 'meeting with Columbian President and now, Speech in HK.

However, you were wrong on the causes of the financial crisis. Please come again.

Even the New York Times is praising her speech.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

4thestate, Which part of the speech are you referring to?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

She was pallin' around with the Communists.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

how long did it take her to find HK on a map ?

"She criticized the U.S. Federal Reserve’s massive intervention in the economy over the last year"

This shows she still has not learnt anything important about basic economics.

A whole string of countries enacted stimulus packages.

Without them, those economies would be a heck of a lot worse off than they are now.

"She criticized the U.S. Federal Reserve’s massive intervention in the economy over the last year" This shows she still has not learnt anything important about basic economics." Well, if you know something, you need to tell all these half a million dollar a year economists sitting over here. Because they are saying the same thing.

Palin left office in part because of the toll of multiple ethics complaints filed against her. Almost all of the complaints were dismissed, but she says she amassed more than $500,000 in legal fees.

In other words, not all of ethics complaints were dismissed. My, what an effort it was to write up a sympathetic article like this for this doltish wannabe has-been.

zurcronium:

Many people walked out on her speech in disgust apparently.

Why would anyone even attend?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

They didn't attend because of the content of the message. They went just to satisfy their curiosity about her. And for some laughs. High school economic students even would allow themselves to be lectured by her let alone professional economists.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Even the New York Times is praising her speech.

Not true. No media was allowed into the private venue where Palin gave her speech.

The New York Times only reported the reactions of a few people who observed it. A quote from their article: "A number of people who heard the speech in a packed hotel ballroom, which was closed to the media, said Mrs. Palin spoke from notes for 90 minutes and that she was articulate, well-prepared and even compelling."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Way back St. Thomas Aquinas remarked, "Nemo dat quod non habet!" (No one can give what s/he does not have). Palin proves this. On this, her first trip wherein she needed to obtain a passport to travel, she waxed eloquent about things of which she knew nothing. THAT was the full value of her "speech." Nothing. (Can she see Russia from Hong Kong? Or does she know that they even speak different languages? I doubt it.

"I was just wondering if she could also see Hong Kong out of her kitchen window"

I see some people are STILL confusing Sarah Palin with Tina Fey, heh heh.

"I'm going to call it like I see it"

That's Palin, all right.

Paln lecturing on international economics is like Quayle lecturing on spelling.

True...And Investors and bankers who paid to listen to her speak...nuff said.

McC72 - However, you were wrong on the causes of the financial crisis. Please come again.

The article above didn't state what she said were the underlying causes of the financial crisis. But I'll be happy to. You could easily make the case that it all goes back to Barney Frank. He was the one who stepped in to prevent Bush from changing the rules that would have prevented the collapse. Sure there are others to blame. Clinton, Bush, a lot of people in the finacial sector, etc, but it was Frank who was the final gatekeeper so to speak whose actions directly caused the meltdown.

Sushi - This shows she still has not learnt anything important about basic economics.

I don't know what she actually said, but the intervention of the reserve into the economy is a disaster.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Went to add the quote by Zurcronium, and accidentally hit submit. Ah well. Sushi, the so called stimulus packages enacted have if anything been a huge failure. They didn't work. If you follow the trends at all, that is completely obvious. The data is all available, just start studying, you'll see. There has been an impact, but at least in the US, its been minimal, and with some of the other things in the so called stimulus package coming online next year, the thing is going to add a net drag to the economy, rather then having been a stimulus.

Zurc - Paln lecturing on international economics is like Quayle lecturing on spelling.

Most of the comments here are by the wingers and nutcases. I don't know about McC72, but based on his comments above, I'd lump him in with the rest. When you see such unfounded vitriol and hatred directed at a person, you have to wonder why. What has Palin done to earn the hatred and ire of the loonies on the left. Is a successful conservative woman really that threatening?

To be honest, I'm not a huge Palin fan. I think her resigning from office shows a lack of follow through. After that, I wouldn't vote for her. But as far as what shes saying, a lot of it is true, or rings true. Though shes a bit further out then I'd like, what with the Death Panels thing an all, shes obviously a lot more intelligent then many of the posters here at least. Zurc for example who can't even spell the womans name.

What? She's been exiled to Hong Kong? I didn't think she could find it on a map.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I imagine her taunting Obama in a Tokyo Rose style of banter and voice.

Hello you fighting Democrats in Foggy Bottom. How's tricks? This is “After her weekend, and oooh, back on the air, strictly under union hours.” Reception okay? Why, it better be, because this is All-Requests night. And I've got a pretty nice program for my favorite little family, the wandering boneheads of Chicago. The first request is made by none other than the boss. And guess what? He wants Bonnie Baker in “My Resistance is Low.” My, what taste you have, sir, she says.

Yeah, and here I thought that conservatives didn't like it when American political figures criticize America when they are on foreign soil.

The London Times reported that "several audience members ... walked out of Ms Palin's speech 30 minutes before the end, citing 'more important things to do' or describing the talk as 'too partisan and too much like a speech at the Republican convention.'"

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think the kiss of death for me with Palin was when she was asked what newspapers she read, seemed confused and replied (if I recall correctly) 'all of them' or something silly. While these days with the media being so biased one way (usually left) or the other it is difficult to find one that is truly a good and fair news source, she certainly has to have ones that she does read to be considered as a candidate. I would have felt more at ease if she had said the 'Moose Droppings Times' or whatever the local rag for her was. If nothing else a politician opting for high office must be informed (well, smart would be a help as well - although some of the smart ones have proved to be real idiots).

"She's been exiled to Hong Kong?"

No, she's visiting HK where investors and bankers are paying to hear her speak.

She taught them how to see Russia from Hong Kong.

A bad investment.

I see Wikikibeach is still confusing Sarah Palin with Tina Fey, heh heh.

"A bad investment"

Yeah? They're probably richer than you, so I guess they probably know something you don't know about investments.

Investing in Palin is a sure loser for everyone.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Palin argued for smaller government, calling for lower taxes and a private-sector solution to health care"

zurc - You disagree with this?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

a private-sector solution to health care

Disagree with people profiting off of the illness and thereby mandating the treatment that sick people receive?

You betcha!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

yabits - So, you actually think the evil U.S. government can run health care better than the private sector? Hee hee!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So, you actually think the evil U.S. government can run health care better than the private sector?

If it's good enough for our military vets and elderly, it's good enough for everyone else.

Look at what happened when the government took its regulatory hand off of the financial industry and let the private sector take over completely. Like everything else the unregulated private sector touches, a few profit massively and the rest get left holding the bag and cleaning up the mess.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So, you actually think the evil U.S. government can run health care better than the private sector?

Any American who doesn't hate his government and considers it the manifestation of "We the People" might be persuaded that "we the people" can run things better than any tiny sub-group of people who are in something primarily to enrich themselves.

yabits:

Exactly.

sarge:

"A bad investment" Yeah? They're probably richer than you, so I guess they probably know something you don't know about investments.

Is this an example of your typical argumenation? If so, you are truly in the league of someone like Palin. You know nothing about my wealth, and can only be assuming that I am not as well endowed as the idiots who paid for Palin to speak. Do you assume that all who post on this forum are as financially weak as you? I'd recommend you stick to argumentation based on facts, not on personal fantasy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ah, the dolt is still alive and well, I see. Probably meant to go to Seattle but got the world map messed up again -- that African country is pretty big!

Cicada: "Do you assume that all who post on this forum are as financially weak as you? I'd recommend you stick to argumentation based on facts, not on personal fantasy."

A very excellent and astute observation. I'm personally waiting for sarge to reply to it. But of course, knowing sarge for some time, I know that he never comes back to threads where he has been literally beaten down, and if he does it's for some weak-a$$ cut-and-paste.
