Some ignorant people do not understand that to keep a community free of covid means taking precautions. A three day lockdown allows for tracing of contacts and testing while limiting the ability for any carrier to spread covid further into the wider community.

For people in countries that have unknown numbers of covid in their communities, no normal life due to ongoing lockdowns and being in third and fourth wave situations with no end in sight to say what Australia does is ridiculous is just stupidity at its worst. Australia is dealing with covid in worlds best practice, with effective measures keeping general society covid free and the economy back to normal bar international tourism.

Poor India has a collapsing health system, no beds in many hospitals and running out of oxygen for patients. The US still battling to reduce its covid issues and Europe tackling its issues and lack of sufficient vaccines. How anyone can point at Australia and ridicule one of the most successful nations in handling covid is nonsensical.

If you live in a country that has done a better job, with less cases and less deaths then by all means point the finger and offer suggestions on doing it better. If not then do not embarrass yourself criticizing what has worked and continues to work for us.

"I agree!... Totally ridiculous!"

He says, as hospitals bust at the seams and people with heart attacks or regular medical emergencies get rejected and die in ambulances as the number of cases of serious corona infections balloons. How many deaths in Australia now? Taiwan? Australia has it FAR better under control than most nations.

Hello posters

I live in Perth so I think I’m qualified to offer my 10 cents

The three day lockdown Is to stop the movement of people, possibly spreading the virus further and giving the contact tracers enough time to do their job. Staying home is boring yes but if others have been infected, and we now know where this infected person has been, then they can immediately isolate and get tested.

Most people in Perth accept this as part of life now. We’ve done very well the last 12 months and we want to keep it that way. If it means a three three day lockdown to nip this in the bud so be it

Fortunately we don’t have any nutters going on about my “freedom’s been curtailed” or “my rights are being infringed upon”. I think we all accept it’s for the greater good.

Why do you think our numbers haven’t been higher?

Peter14, Yoshisan, I agree 100 percent

AustPaul

Hang in there, mate. We are all in this together.

However, I do hope our quarantine can hold its own.

When will you end that?

When it is safe to do so.

Everybody knows that this Virus will never dissapear from this world.

Spanish flu did and that killed tens of millions over 6 years. When herd immunity is reached through vaccinations this should also disappear.

So you will always lockdown everything as soon 1 or 2 cases appears?

Until herd immunity is reached.

Lockdowns until the end of the world?

No.

Wait until it gets to winter in Australia and New Zealand when the 'flu' season restarts like every winter

That is why many states in Australia have strict covid restrictions in summer because if we can keep the virus at bay in summer. We have a better chance against it in winter.

Hey next time you complain about living in Japan, thank your lucky stars you don’t live in Australia!

Usually I want to be nice but your comment really is too mean. People do not need to wear a mask when going out here in Brisbane. Restaurants are all at full capacities. People are traveling without fear. Old people are feeling safe here. Things are looking normal here. Yeah I wish I were in Tokyo welcoming the upcoming 3 week SOE.

By the way, Japan is my favorite country. 7 times there in the past 10 years. I sincerely feel sorry for Japanese hurt in this pandamic, especially those in the tourism industry. I wish Japan best of lucky in this turbulent time.

If these people are Australians returning home, they should be serving their quarantine in their homes in a self-contained bubble, ordering supplies for the duration. Gathering people together in hotels is daft.

Also, they should be testing negative before they get on the plane, using the proper tests, not the quick ones. We need reliable tests. If you test negative, reliably, you wouldn't need to quarantine. It's a virus, not a magical curse.

Australia needs to be vaccinating its citizens much more quickly. Unvaccinated, it will remain a prison for many, especially the 30% of Australian citizens who are immigrants and may have family abroad, as well as a medical disaster in waiting should an outbreak not be contained.

That's right AustPaul, you can still go for a surf for an hour too, as long as you wear a mask ;-)

The peeps at Bunnings were questioning whether they were essential workers, but I say they are. So much time to get stuff done in the home. Living the dream!

Good luck Japan.

What's the meaning of a 3-days lockdown ? To control what ?

If someone has the virus in the community, it will still be here in 3 days.

I believe it should be a longer lockdown to be effective, or nothing.

Anyway, again, fears drive these lockdowns. 2 mlilions at home for 1 or 2 cases
