yes bizzare..either suffering from money problem or mental problem(s) :(

Definitely mental problems. Sounds like some kind of panic attack. In any case, what is American Airlines' screening system for employees?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Screening process for airline employees is pretty strict, but you never know when where or why someone will snap.

You can screen for this kind of stuff? Heh

I don't know Smith; the article says it was a 15 minute speech. Maybe a disgruntled employee wanting to hurt the company before resigning?

Well its a good thing people decided to wrestle he to the ground, otherwise she would have talked some more.

Sarcasm off.

I'm thinking it is about a matter of the heart. The phrase 'Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned' comes to mind. Plus an unstable mind. She needs to be attended to by a medical counseller.

I absolutely love this story. Finally the passengers get some revenge on the flight attendants. We're kicking you off the plane today. My son just wants to record the wing while we take off in airplane mode, no signal.

So much has changed and so much is now lost.

I remember the first time I flew on AA. The pilot gave me these little plastic wings that I could pin on to my jacket. Those were the days when a young boy could peer just inside the cockpit and say "Oh Cool, Dad, Look!!! Glass displays!!

Now the passengers have more tech than the aircraft itself. Passengers instantly started recording the scene, excited by the prospect of either getting paid for their video or posting on YouTube so family and friends could witness it.

Truth be told, flight attendants have it real bad. If you're a male flight attendant, passengers automatically assume you're gay. The women are often looked down, some passengers often doubt they can perform their duties. I'm guilty of that too. I seriously doubt Japanese female flight attendants can even open that emergency door or help a passenger.

Obviously, these are tough economic times. As passengers we can't imagine the pressure they are under. We are in fact, placing our lives in their hands each time we fly. We need to be on their side more. The powers that be, corporations, are working hard to dismantle Unions and cut benefits while increasing their workload.

I don't believe passengers are to blame. Devices set in Airplane mode should be allowed. Offline content, such as games, help distract us from the fear of flying. I love flying and the only thing I really want to do is record our take-0ff and landing with my iPhone's camera. That's not an electronic signal. This is a problem for the experts at Boeing and AirBus. We've sacrificed too much in the war against Terrorism.

News stations here in the States are saying she is bi-polar and was not taking her meds.

Watch: Some liberal judge is gonna nail those pro-active passengers for "acting stupidly". When the Lame Scream Media gets through with this story nobody will move a muscle henceforth.

Bottom line: judged by 12 or carried by 6. Well done, conscientious passengers, well done.

I just watched a FOX news segment on this. Apparently the flight attendant had bipolar disorder and had failed to take her meds. Surprised that the airlines would hire someone suffering from this sort of condition.

What 'liberal judge' is going to 'nail' these passengers? Where did you read any mention of possible convictions toward the passengers?

If she's mentally ill, then she needs to go back on her medication. Nobody will go to jail for restraining a bipolar person in the grips of a manic episode.

Its quite possible. People were injured because one was talking. I don't know how exactly that came about, but depending on circumstances, the scenario you describe could happen. It might be illegal to yell fire in a crowded movie theater with no fire, but that does not give JQP the right to tackle the speaker.

If that were me, mr. average citizen, they'd be interrogating me with waterboards and tasers.

Didn't the other flight attendants notice anything strange after the 10-minute mark in her speech? Heh. It looks like they aren't trained to handle their own

She is not well and my prayers are with her. This is no different than any other medical problem. We need to treat all ill people with respect and dignity.

@YuriOtani When it's a woman it's a medical problem. When it's a male, you'd be chanting "Terminate him".

She hadn't endangered the flight YET. If they had been in the air she might have tried to depressurize the cabin, taking her and everyone else on board to their death.

I think she should be grounded forever. She shouldn't be allowed to fly the friendly skies until a professional psychologist who makes a $1,000 dollars an hour deems her safe to fly. 60 -100 sessions at least.

I love American passengers today. You try to hijack our planes nowadays we won't go down without a fight.

She was a woman suffering through a mental health episode, not a terrorist trying to hijack a plane.

NetNinja, you are mistaken my friend. I support all people regardless of race or gender. If I cross the line please remind me. I see a person who is not well and nothing more.

This is probably the end of this poor flight attendant's career.

Goddammit ramen is right. I'm going to buy an extra gun today, I can't protect myself enough from the evils of a liberal society!

Heh, textbook Chuck Norris fantasies. Sorry to spoil them, but even Chuck kicks strappin' freedom haters ass, not foaming at the mouth flight attendants armed with a PA system.

One more reason to celebrate National Women's Day.

Humm… Good for the passengers on this flight. Everyone seems to be confused, this poor woman chose to stop taking her medication knowing what could happen although the story doen't say when or how long she had been off them she, did it by choice. As a former mental health worker, I can tell you that a bipolar in a manic phase was not kidding about crashing the plane ( if that is what she said she would do). So in my book the guys who tackled her were living their Chuck Noris dream, and possibly saving the lives of everyone on that plane. If you know nothing about mental illness you shouldn't laugh about the men ″taking out a poor woman.″ Why do you think it took more than two if she was so weak and helpless? In my book those men are Heroes. She was no poor woman.

They were still going through the motions of fastening and unfastening a seat belt to show us what to do in the event of an emergency.

Nah I was talking about Netninja's Chuck Norris fantasies. Sure they subdued a crazy woman, a wise move but big deal.

Wake me up when it's a well trained and ruthless terrorist that got bagged. Then I'll use the word hero.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Wow...another flight attendant freaks out. Looks like the passengers didn't give her a chance to grab a beer and deploy the emergency chutes this time.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

That's pretty funny. Not the story. That is just sad. But the fact that RomeoRamen and SuperLib can let their delusions shine even when there is NOTHING political happening in a story. I wish we could get some sort of hybrid a$$hat... perhaps SuperRamen. Would they this republican terror be twice as deluded? I, for one, hope so!
