What type of crazy alternate reality do trump supporters live in that they think this is caving? Speaker said she wouldn't consider a state of the union until the government was reopen. Government is reopen so now they're allowing the state of the union. Is it really that hard to follow a sequence of events?

11 ( +14 / -3 )

And now, the State of the Union, by President Donald Trump....

My fellow Americans, the state of the union is great, believe me, believe me.  It's great because I made it so, it's true, its true.  My administration is the most honest and law abiding in history, indeed, indeed.  Government works when I'm President, absolutely, absolutely.  I've always been a faithful and loving husband, always, always.

Now I'd like to give a shout-out to all 37 members of my campaign, associates or cabinet who have been indicted and convicted of over 70 felony counts. Don Jr, Jared, and I will be joining you soon...mark my words, mark my words.

God Bless America...

7 ( +10 / -3 )

I am shocked by how well she ran this round against Trump.

By following up so quickly and re-extending the invitation she shows herself to be the better opponent, and she maintains her own integrity and dignity. Well played, Speaker Pelosi. Well played.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Trumpers Dec 2018 when Pelosi dis-invited him to the SOU: How dare Nancy disrespect the President like this, this is immoral, this is unconstitutional, its unfair, how could she do this?

Trumpers Jan 19 when she invites him back, after Trump caves and re-opens govt with no wall funding: Nancy caved and invited him back for the SOU, look at her - she got played.....

Trumpers, want to see a real cave - just ask your conservative icon Ann Coulter - she'll tell you what a real cave looks like...

"Jeb!"...

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Pelosi keeps her promise and allows Trump the SOTU on after he reopened the government.

She could very well have delayed it, but then when dealing with toddlers you cannot be one.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

allowed him to do his SOTU

Yes, she ALLOWED him (AFTER he caved)

Trump got beaten up by two girls (Ann Coulter and Nancy Pelosi). So laughable. And no wall. Trump caved.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

women should stop trying to turn them into something that they are not

I'm not sure what you mean? People who rape, should be labeled monsters. People who talk about grabbing pussy in the locker room, cheat on their wives, jokingly call a woman Pocahontas, well, I think its pretty justifiable in labeling these kind of people pigs. But I guess you're ok with all that eh?

6 ( +9 / -3 )

Ladies and gentlemen, the State of the Union by President Donald Trump...

My fellow Americans, I stand here tonight supported by Ann Coulter, Laura Ingram, and Rush Limbaugh....

Yes, there actually here right behind me helping support my backbone so it will stay straight - without them, I'd cave right to the ground in a big heap of orange nothingness...

I just wish they'd stop whispering in my ear "Jeb", "Wimp", and "Loser"...

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Crazy

And Trump accepted. It looks like both sides are trying working to get out the cul-de-sac Trump took our country into.

Four days ago, Trump said no budget with no wall. Dems said, no hostage taking.

Friday, three days ago, Trump surrendered.

Today, Pelosi offers Trump something, and Trump accepts.

That's called give-and-take to move forward. 'Cause Trump doesn't want another shutdown, 'cause he took a beating, and Dems don't want another shutdown 'cause its bad for the country, and American, while they blame Trump correctly for the Trump Shutdow, really just want stuff to get done.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Knew it, Dems caved! Love it.

No wall. Government open

5 ( +11 / -6 )

We knew that the Trumpets with their limited literacy, had problems reading, apparently they have problems seeing and listening too. Since this was played out on all channels and is there on YouTube too, wonder how they missed it!

“Yes, if we don’t get what we want one way or the other, whether it’s through you, through military, through anything you want to call — I will shut down the government. I am proud to shut down the government. I will take the mantle.”

And Donny boy still doesnt have anything and guess what , the government is open.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

However, the look on Nancy's face as she sits behind the President will be priceless.

A mother listening to her whining toddler?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

government is TEMPORARILY open. for the purpose of coming to agreement on a deal.

No, the agreement was to negotiate. There is no requirement of a deal.

You obviously haven’t looked at how the other shutdowns of the past 30 years have been resolved. None of them ended up with the team who shut it down getting what they wanted. Instead they end with some face saving excuse for ending the shut down. Such as agreeing to negotiate (which would happen anyways).

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Trump's State of the Union Address equals koolaid time again or his mindless followers.

A president who lies more often than he tells the truth, and his followers eat that BS right up. That's what's known as blind obedience.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

But women also need to understand the way they’re moving this war on men crap

its not war against all men, it war against chauvinistic men that treat women like objects and second class citizens, no need to guess who sits top that pile in the minds of many voting women

5 ( +7 / -2 )

The State of the Union address will be full of fake news, disinformation and misinformation ... period!

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Ladies and gentlemen, the State of the Union by President Donald Trump...

My fellow Americans, we need a wall....walls are beautiful - they're full of covefefe...

Walls keep out illegal immigrants - and we need to do that...

All except the ones I employ at Mar-A Logo and at my Trump Golf Courses because they really are cheap labor - I save a bundle not having to pay American workers...

Just like my Trump shirt and tie factories in China - I save a bundle there too...

All you blue collar workers out their, thank you for supporting me - suckers....

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Of course the Dems didn't cave

Yes

government is TEMPORARILY open. for the purpose of...

....Trump being beaten up by two girls (Pelosi and Ann Coulter). Yes, Trump is a real wimp

4 ( +7 / -3 )

I wonder if he caved because he didn't want to be denied the SOTU, becoming a mention in history books for all time for being the only president ever to be dis-invited.

I could see that being more important to him that the border security frenzy he's whipped up his peons into freaking out about.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

But women also need to understand the way they’re moving this war on men crap and if it keeps going there could be a backlash at the polls again where you see men rising up,

they can rise up all they like , registered women voters outnumber men, the rise up has already started the record number women in the House is proof of that, keep disrespecting and marginalising women and it'll only get worse. Like I just stated women have more political power in the US when you count the number of registered voters, and theyll vote for whoever represent their needs the most. Got to love democracy dont you.!

4 ( +6 / -2 )

However, the look on Nancy's face as she sits behind the President will be priceless.

A mother listening to her whining toddler?

I was thinking it'd be something like this. I'm more interested in seeing Trump's face when she uses legislative powers to get his taxes.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

whites carrying Trump to the White House, that result would have been impossible without the 31% of Hispanics supporting him as well.

31% does not represent a majority, doesn't even represent a larger minority,

69% of Hispanics voted Democrat in the midterms. That should tell you what the majority of them think about Trumps persona and his wall. of all the races a higher percentage of women voted democrat than men. with the US population being 51% women you can understand how the women's vote lost Trump the house.

http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/11/09/how-latinos-voted-in-2018-midterms/

3 ( +6 / -3 )

love it when people down vote after you show them the FACTS of the midterms, the truth is a biatch!! LOL

3 ( +6 / -3 )

that sounds kinda "sexist" I thought liberals dont do that kind of thing.

not all liberals have the same mentailty, and not all anti-Trump people are liberal or conservative many are in between. but when it comes to Trump you have let things slide because your dealing with a whole different bucket of poop

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Yeah. Well, Trump craves adulation, and the SOTU address might buy him a few days distraction from his mounting legal problems. But, as usual, he hasn't thought this through. What on earth is he going to say?

For all his employment numbers and stock market readings (look at the stats to see a steady continuum from the early days of Obama's administration), the State of the Union has been shredded by Trump. That he even wants to give the speech is laughable.

I predict his address will dig his hole deeper.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

The drug problem won’t be solved by a wall, but it will greatly slow them down and many will turn back and even the ones that do try and sneak it with a wall like the ones the President wants it would take time to climb or dig under, enough time for border patrol to apprehend these people and get off of this White Supremacy garbage, you have a lot of Americans that are Hispanic or Hispanic in origin and want to see the border closed and the goes for Blacks and other minorities. I wish liberals would stop screaming racism for any little infraction, getting kind of old now.

Delusional to think Americans who want drugs won't get them or be slowed down by a wall.

You have a lot more Americans who want to see the border properly controlled, via options other than a wall, Bass. You wanna check the polls?!

3 ( +5 / -2 )

I pretty much don’t, but if you go by them, she’s not looking to clean on this one

Fake news. Can't believe the polls. The people are totally behind her - she's more popular than she's ever been. Anyone trying to tell you otherwise is part of the right-wing deep-state fake-news MSM.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

East speech to write

"We're a total mess".!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

@blowjoe

Govt funded until Feb. 15, that’s all. Dems haven’t won anything yet.

Sure they have, dems proposed a deal to reopen government for 3 weeks while discussing the border. Isn't that exactly what has happened? Where have you been the past couple of weeks, guy?

Trump hasn't won a wall. Lawmakers won't find common ground. He'll either further dig himself into a hole by closing government again or declaring "national emergency". Either way, he takes the hit. So you can blame both the Dems and the GOP for not making Trump happy, or you can blame Trump for not compromising. But you can't blame the left or right by themselves now. And if Trump decides to use his executive powers and declare a "national emergency", he's gonna be in for some pretty harsh treatment from both the left and right because nobody wants that to be the new way presidents get what they want.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

@Nicolas

But at least he makes it obvious for people who need such things to be highlighted and underlined for them.

I think you underestimate the lack of intelligence within Trump's base.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

He will be lucky if she doesn't get mooned and have shoes thrown at him. The new members of the house are animals.

Doubt that - the Democrats will be polite...

But those raucous Repubs - if any of them listen to their conservative icons Coulter, Ingram, Limbaugh, Dobbs, et al; they'll be yelling "Wimp", "Jeb", "Loser" and instead of shoes, they'll be throwing back braces...

Wow, that'd be a better reality TV show than the Apprentice...

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The new members of the house are animals. oh then your calling the majority of the American voters who put them there animals also, sucks to be a minority doesnt it.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

While a candidate who boasts only 31% support of Hispanics would be fatal for a presidential candidate in a direct democracy, it is enough to secure a win in a **representative one.**

it certainly was enough to win the house and convincingly at that.

Believe it or not, there not a statistically insignificant number of Hispanics who are unhappy with the Democratic Party for a variety of reasons, and are willing to stand behind Trump—self-evident flaws and all.

if youd told me that Hispanic had voted say 40+% Trump, then that would be impressive. If you look at the stats its the womens vote accross all races that bascially defeated the white mens vote (majority Trump votes)

This should tell you that it wasnt any one race that won the Dems the house it was the womens vote, its not difficult to understand why

2 ( +5 / -3 )

government is TEMPORARILY open. for the purpose of coming to agreement on a deal.

Do you really think Wimpy is going to do a "Trump Shutdown" again?  After getting all the blame from the American people and all the humiliation from the far-right last time?

McConnell will tell him "no way" - you'll hand both the Senate and White House to the Democrats in 2020.

Which is why I'm all for it - just do it Donnie - go on TV and tell everyone how proud you are to shut things down again and that you'll own the mantle...

We'll see what your core base support really is - 20%?  15%?  5%?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

@bass

And from the polls, she is too now.

Hold on a sec, I thought you didn't believe in polls.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

the point is the gender politics is going to have a very bad backlash towards women if this continues sooner or later

So stop indulging in gender politics then. Women aren't asking for much; just equal rights, pay and a little bit less violence towards them. Nobody is stopping you going to the rodeo and drinking Bud.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Please post a link.

I did. 4 times.

You posted a link to an average of polls that had Trump in the high forties? Are you sure? Could you post it again?

I’m sorry to labour the point, but this changes the whole complexion of who is being more damaged politically by the shutdown. This isn’t a minor point.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

so dems are incompetent for not just giving Trump the wall.

The democrats are incompetent because they didn't give into Trump's ultimatum on a wall the people didn't want, that he said Mexico would pay for.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Personally interested if Trump is going to realize that February 5th is the Lunar New Year, typically celebrated by close to 1/4 of the world's population!

1 ( +5 / -4 )

Why does all of this remind me of protracted volleying in tennis or kabuki theater?!

Honestly, politicians seem to be able to behave in ways most of the rest of us could never get away with! And they get to do it with the taxpayers' footing the bill.

It's just a meaningless address, full of bloviating and empty promises. Which seems to be true of much of what politicians do all day, every day, no matter what country it is.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Hold on a sec, I thought you didn't believe in polls.

I pretty much don’t

You posted fake news about Trump’s approval rating being in the high forties the other day. No recent poll says that. The average of the polls, taking in polls from ‘left’ and ‘right’ organizations, has him at about 41%.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

it certainly was enough to win the house and convincingly at that.

Of course, in time-honored American fashion, these results could very well become meaningless by November 2020. People vote all the time for local politicians of one party, then vote for a presidential candidate from the opposite party. Off the top of my head, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama all were re-elected despite the opposition party holding a majority in one or both houses of Congress.

if youd (sic) told me that Hispanic (sic) had voted say 40+% Trump, then that would be impressive. If you look at the stats its the womens vote accross all races that bascially defeated the white mens vote (majority Trump votes)

This should tell you that it wasnt any one race that won the Dems the house it was the womens vote, its not difficult to understand why

Did not a majority of white women vote Trump in 2016? I believe that just over half did.

I am presuming you may not be from the US, or understand how the US electoral system works. But 31% in 2016 was no negligible amount in a representative democracy. Had either McCain or Romney polled that strongly with Hispanics, the Republicans might have been able to at least cut Obama down to a single term. Tellingly, Hillary Clinton polled sluggish numbers among Hispanics, at least comparatively to Obama and especially her husband. The US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, for example, poured some withering invective upon her and her campaign in the days following the election, complaining that they felt that Hispanics had been being slighted by the Clinton camp. While no single race is responsible for electing Trump (if anything it was a collaborative effort), it may very well be that a single racial demographic cost Clinton her election.

Looking forward to 2020, one must admit that the US general public has a very short attention span, is incapable of recalling crucial details of even very recent history, and in all likelihood will forget this entire shutdown fiasco—which was contrived by both parties. Given the glut of Democratic candidates for the White House, which will potentially result in vicious internecine sniping during the primaries, as well as the resentment already manifest in certain quarters that one particular candidate is apparently being groomed for a party coronation à la Hillary Clinton and you have a situation where Trump may just eke out another unlikely victory next year.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@bass

41% approval is not usual...lol

Why is 29% the number you picked for "panic time"? Wouldn't it be safe to say, the GOP should be panicking now? I guess they want to lose.

Well, if Nancy wants to lie again, then it’s ok, then Trump will do what he needs to do and declare a national emergency, simple as that. Now let’s see her work her magic then.

This sentence doesn't make any sense. I hope he does declare a national emergency. The wall won't get built during his time in office either way, which means it won't get built later on. It might be the best option, and then the dems can justify calling a national emergency on real problems, like gun crime and move on NRA.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

You posted fake news about Trump’s approval rating being in the high forties the other day. No recent poll says that. The average of the polls, taking in polls from ‘left’ and ‘right’ organizations, has him at about 41%.

I did and there was

Please post a link. It should be easy to find a poll tracker to verify your high forties claim. You told me you don’t trust the findings of single polls which may be biased, and prefer an average of many polls. I agree with this idea and that rules out the findings of a single poll. I have looked at the average, I repeat average, of the polls and haven’t seen Trump near the high forties.

Please post a link. This will help to shoot down the idea that the shutdown is negatively affecting Trump’s approval ratings.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yea, from what I've heard McConnell and the other Repbs say, I'm confident...

Ok, so it means, you really don’t know.

I noticed you quoted me twice - I guess you really agree with me.

About Blumenthal and the Democrats, I do

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Schumer says:

“This shutdown cost the U.S. economy $11 billion, including $3 billion in economic activity that can't be recovered.”

so dems are incompetent for not just giving Trump the wall. It really is all politics.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Nope - can't use Blumenthal to try to evade and dodge the question I've asked three times now;

I’m not, but you love to criticize the President all day and from what i can gather you don’t like him, but at the same time, you givr Democrats a complete pass and I mean completely.

Yes you are - if JT posts an article on Blumenthal, I'll be glad to comment on it - this threat is about Trump. Stop with the weak evasions.

Come on Trumpers, why didn't the wall get funded from Jan 17 to Dec 18?

Why can't you answer it?

For the record...that was answered a few times. But sure, why not? I do think the GOP dragged their feet, particularly Ryan for not pushing this through, but now that’s past and behind us, we need to look forward. Now back to my question, what do you think about rotten to the core lying Democrats.

What? That's not an answer. Ryan wasn't President. Ryan didn't say over 200 times in his campaign "We'll build a wall and Mexico will pay for it, mark my words, mark my words". That was Wimpy! Why didn't he do anything for two years to fund the wall? He had McConnell and Ryan on his team. It was all there, all Trump had to do was tell them to send him a funding bill and he would sign it - done.

But that didn't happen did it? So Trump shuts down the government causing needless pain to the economy and families, let alone endanger our security - why? Why wasn't it funded between Jan 17 and Dec 18? The whole shutdown could have been avoided - and Donnie wouldn't have had to suffer the humiliation from Ann Coulter.

Why?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Burning bush, Bass

Did you not read the initial withdrawl of her invitation? It said, if you open government, you can give the SOTU. And that's what she did...It's kinda like compromising, a concept which you clearly don't understand either. No need to be so bitter about losing the first battle for a wall. Trump's bound to shut government down again mid February, or declare a national emergency which will piss off the entire GOP. Good luck with that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Nicolas

My point is that all presidents spin outrageous lies.

This is true. My point was, as obvious as Trump's lies are, Trump's base still fails to recognize them for what they are and worse, believes them to be honest truth and the path to a greater America. He is able to do this because the majority of his base is under-educated American citizens who don't understand the concept of formulating one's own opinion.

That or they play into Trump's scheme because of their self-motivated morals and unfortunately for the majority, these include racist ideologies. These same people who believe in "innocence until proven guilty" will also judge a person by the color of their skin. They would support a travel ban of Muslims because of one's religion because they are scared of what they aren't. They seriously believe that terrorists are flooding through our southern border. They think America's drug problems will be solved with a wall (and they think the wall will only cost 5.7 billion dollars). It's clearly a matter of lack in education and the belief in white supremacy. I don't think these were the issues on the table before. Like you said, some people are better liars than others. I know you aren't but, for these people to look back and continue to criticize the past without consideration for the future, that's downright stupid.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

BlacklabelToday  11:35 am JST

government is TEMPORARILY open. for the purpose of coming to agreement on a deal.

Which was basically the deal put to vote by democrats last Friday. Temporarily open government to try and come to an agreement. I doubt they do though. GOP's arms are tied behind their backs and can't offer anything without wall funding, and dems won't agree to a wall, so it's bound to be the same thing, a stalemate between two parties who can't agree. At least people will get some money before the next shutdown.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

that sounds kinda "sexist" I thought liberals dont do that kind of thing.

Sorry, he also got beat up by a bald old fat man (Rush Limbaugh)

0 ( +3 / -3 )

You're not going to see that because she can't do that. You know he doesn't take a salary, right? Unlike Nancy, who, like him, doesn't need it, but she takes it anyway.

I'm pretty sure it will turn into a legal battle for them, and they can probably get them.

The big question is will Nancy be ready to reap what she has sowed on February 5th?

Why is that the big question? We already know what he's gonna say.

"Border, Drugs, Illegal immigrants, wall, MAGA, 1 more week to decide, I'm gonna blame you guys this time on tv so don't even think about it"

0 ( +2 / -2 )

declare a national emergency

What kind of emergency do you declare later? Yes, I bet if a big earthquake hits it is acceptable to wait weeks to declare an emergency. Maybe Trump can declare an emergency to have Crooked Hillary arrested next?

0 ( +3 / -3 )

His average high in 2 years is 45 (and that was at the beginning of his term). It slowly dropped since the shutdown and now, it currently sits at 41. He won the election by a very slim margin. Any drop in approval from 45% should set off panic alarms for the GOP that they need shape up Trump or risk losing it in 2020.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

It should be on tape delay since Trump has such a problem with lying,

0 ( +2 / -2 )

There will be “enhanced fencing” after the 15th. Whatever you decide to call it so you can still run around claiming victory because no “wall”

Traffic cones?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Wow liberals are supposed to be kin, considerate and compassionate. Such hate for another human being is appalling.

Liberals are kind, compassionate and considerate - just not to draft-dodging, Russian colluding, white supremacists and swindlers, who cavort with porn stars while their 4 month old son is at home...

0 ( +2 / -2 )

There will be “enhanced fencing” after the 15th. Whatever you decide to call it so you can run around claiming victory because no “wall”

“Jeb Bush just talked about my border proposal to build a "fence." It's not a fence, Jeb, it's a WALL, and there's a BIG difference!”

Donald J. Trump on Twitter.

The all caps of “WALL” and “BIG” in “BIG difference” are perhaps worth pausing over.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Haha.

Dems caved.

Losers.

No they didn't - all they said was no State of the Union until the government reopens

Look around - is the government open?

(And it's customary for the US Congress to invite the President to make a State of the Union address every year - they have to invite him now that there's no reason not to. That's how the US works)

Nobody in political circles are even calling it that - don't be desperate and grasping at straws

People should keep the debate within reasonable grounds

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Repeat yourself much? What do you think about Dems costing us 11 billion when we could have built the wall for 5 billion. Imcompetent.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I'm confident in my assessment - are you with yours?

Yup.

I didn't say anything about Blumenthal

I did, so what do you think? Do you find him lying about his Vietnam record repulsive?

You don’t think he’s being a hypocrite for criticizing the President? And a Democrat Congressman who cheated on his wife with little girls on his wife’s PC while she was pregnant and while she was secretly hiding her boss’s emails on her PC. Does it bother you? You never answered. But it seems like by your silence you agree with me, good to know.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Nope - can't use Blumenthal to try to evade and dodge the question I've asked three times now;

Come on Trumpers, why didn't the wall get funded from Jan 17 to Dec 18?

Why can't you answer it?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

The Democratic legislators should bring funny noisemakers and toot them stridently every time Trump tells another one of his outrageous lies.

Because no holder of the office of Chief Executive, irrespective of party affiliation or ideological bent, has ever lied outrageously to the American public. Remember “read my lips”, “I did not have sex with that woman”, WMDs in Iraq, “mission accomplished”, or “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it”? Which is not to excuse Trump’s lying. But at least he makes it obvious for people who need such things to be highlighted and underlined for them.

And, yes, please bring the noisemakers. Let the US demonstrate to the entire world that it is a colossal and exhausted joke.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

government is TEMPORARILY open. for the purpose of coming to agreement on a deal.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

This is true. My point was, as obvious as Trump's lies are, Trump's base still fails to recognize them for what they are and worse, believes them to be honest truth and the path to a greater America. He is able to do this because the majority of his base is under-educated American citizens who don't understand the concept of formulating one's own opinion.

True enough. But I do not know if lack of education is the problem. Because I can certainly attest to knowing quite a few college-educated types, many sporting masters and doctorates from some tony institutions of higher learning who are incapable of thinking critically or independently.

That or they play into Trump's scheme because of their self-motivated morals and unfortunately for the majority, these include racist ideologies.

I am personally skeptical of Trump’s racism, despite the claims one hears in the news. He is sort of an inverse of Obama, his negative image in the sense that like his predecessor in the Oval Office he is given to making broad, sweeping, but ultimately ambiguous statements which can be interpreted to anybody’s liking. He has never said anything explicitly racist, but what he apparently intimates sets white nationalists and social justice warriors alike foaming at the mouth. Much of what he says is rather more tame than what I was used to hearing in California from the likes of Pete Wilson, Daryl Gates, Bob Dorman, et al during the 1990s.

Additionally, a much-overlooked detail about Trump’s supporters is that a significant number of them are Hispanic, especially among (odd as it may seem to some whites) foreign-born US citizens. Remember that he was a Republican who boasted the widest margin of support among Hispanics since George W. Bush. Although the story that made the rounds post-election was of poor, rural whites carrying Trump to the White House, that result would have been impossible without the 31% of Hispanics supporting him as well.

There are quite a few Hispanics, including foreign-born ones who are actually in favor of a border wall, aghast at the trans phenomenon and what they perceive as attacks on the traditional families by the left, and were displeased by Clinton’s bumbling outreach to them. However, given the divisiveness of their views, few of these people are willing to ever speak on the record about their political inclinations. But being Hispanic myself, I know quite a few of these people personally.

So then the rational and logical thing now is for the Democrats to stop saying No

But they didn't stop saying "No" and Trump "Wimped" out (quote by Ann Coulter), got beat up by another girl Pelosi then got rolled over by an old fat man (Rush Limbaugh). Trump is weak. Dems didn't stop saying "No" and Trump caved.

You know he doesn't take a salary, right?

His past years, not current ones. Nothing illegal but it will be embarrassing.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

but if he does declare national emergency

Declare an emergency LATER??? I have never heard of an emergency you declare later. Do you wait hours to call an ambulance if someone has serious chest pains?

it will get done

How many times have we heard this for Trump's toy wall (and it's a toy like a child can't wait for his new bicycle under the Xmas tree)? What an old man child.

If the emergency to get the wall built fails then what?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Once he gets in his 20s then we can star to panic, but again given the events swirling around him, the numbers are not that bad.

I guess if you guys don't feel the need to panic, you'll have a pretty miserable election day in 2020.

I would do more outreach to grow the bass, in that sense the GOP is very lazy.

Trump's base is so small that the GOP doesn't care. It's peanuts, and people with peanuts for brains, and if that is all they focused on, Trump would lose by a landslide in 2020. They need to work on people that matter, which includes the EC.

it will get done

An unlikely dream. It's already projected to take many, many, years to build. I guess if GOP held the oval office for the next 20 years with more nationalist (see I'm staying away from calling you guys racists) nut jobs at the helm, it might get built.

However, the look on Nancy's face as she sits behind the President will be priceless.

A mother listening to her whining toddler?

No, a witch listening to the POTUS shaming her and the rest of the Democrats.

More like a mother that took her whiny child to the woodshed, he bowed and scraped and begged to be let back in, and she let him...

I'm more interested in seeing Trump's face when she uses legislative powers to get his taxes.

You're not going to see that because she can't do that. You know he doesn't take a salary, right? Unlike Nancy, who, like him, doesn't need it, but she takes it anyway.

I can't wait to see Trump's face when one of the Repubs shouts out "Jeb!", "Wimp!", "Loser!"...

There will be “enhanced fencing” after the 15th. Whatever you decide to call it so you can still run around claiming victory because no “wall”

Trump people want illegals to be shot at the border. They hate. They are on record for saying this. I don't want Trump to die the way Trump people (I didn't say Republicans) want illegals to be sniped by marksmen on the border. But he is a fat grotesque orange man. Is that not true?

The all caps of “WALL” and “BIG” in “BIG difference” are perhaps worth pausing over.

I guess he's finally starting to try to compromise.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Ok, you can believe that, but if he does declare national emergency it will get done,

McConnell won't let him declare an emergency and use that option - that's like giving a machine gun to the next Democratic President to use against all kinds of conservative programs.

but what’s more important, The Democrats need to get some of their legislation through as well and they need to hurry up with that, because many of their supporters and constituents are not happy about the progress or lack there of for not following through on their promise. As for a move on the NRA....they can try, but I think at that flashpoint you will see 1861 all over again.

Can you believe this? Repubs had the White House and Congress for two years - they could have passed funding for a wall ANYTIME - and they didn't - why? Come on Trumpers, why didn't the wall get funded from Jan 17 to Dec 18?

But what about the Democrats and their racist policies and what do you think about Congressman Blumenthal lying about his Vietnam record? -1 ( +1 / -2 )

or not just giving Trump the wall

Trump will shut down the government next for not having Hillary arrested. Also, it is Ann Coulter who is blaming Trump for being a wimp. Ann Coulter never called Pelosi a Wimp. Trump was whipped by two girls. When he was walking away in his bright orange hair he looked like he was running to mommy.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Yea, from what I've heard McConnell and the other Repbs say, I'm confident...

Ok, so it means, you really don’t know.

I'm confident in my assessment - are you with yours?

I noticed you quoted me twice - I guess you really agree with me.

About Blumenthal and the Democrats, I do

I didn't say anything about Blumenthal - I said Trump was a draft dodging, Russian colluding, white supremacist and swindler who cavorts with porn stars - and you repeated me twice...thanks for agreeing with me. And who's Ted Buddy?

Come on Trumpers, why didn't the wall get funded from Jan 17 to Dec 18?

Ignores the question again - I guess wimpy applies to more than just Trump...

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Nope - can't use Blumenthal to try to evade and dodge the question I've asked three times now;

I’m not, but you love to criticize the President all day and from what i can gather you don’t like him, but at the same time, you givr Democrats a complete pass and I mean completely.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

What do you think about Dems costing us 11 billion

Oh, have you already started to try to re-write history? This was TRUMP'S shutdown, that he PROUDLY took credit for, as he should, seeing as he is of the opinion that a shutdown is the result of a weak leader who won't sign a bill:

If you say who gets fired, it always has to be the top. Problems start from the top, and they have to get solved from the top, and the president’s the leader, and he’s got to get everybody in a room, and he’s got to lead. And he doesn’t do that, he doesn’t like doing that, that’s not his strength."

"when they talk about the government shutdown, they’re going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time. They’re not going to be talking about who was the head of the House, the head the Senate, who’s running things in Washington. So I really think the pressure is on the president."

“FACT – the reason why Americans have to worry about a government shutdown is because Obama refuses to pass a budget.”

It's very clear, by Trump's own claiming of the shutdown, as well as his clearly stating that a shutdown is the fault of the president - and that's in addition to the fact that he threw out an unrealistic ultimatum after already making an agreement - that Trump is clearly the one who cost the people $11 million. And his poll numbers are showing.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

The Democratic legislators should bring funny noisemakers and toot them stridently every time Trump tells another one of his outrageous lies.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

No wall. Government open.

Govt funded until Feb. 15, that’s all. Dems haven’t won anything yet.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

I think you underestimate the lack of intelligence within Trump's base.

My comment was referring to his ideological antipodes who seem to believe that their chosen candidates/media personalities/politicians are blameless, and that Trump is the sole begetter of the political lie.

Obama, these people have quickly forgotten, was hounded by these same mandarins of the press for his inaccessibility, as well as for what they claimed were his ambiguous or outright duplicitous statements.

This is not to say that Obama is “worse”. My point is that all presidents spin outrageous lies. Quite a few conjured ones that proved lethal to many of the people they purport to represent and defend. That Trump should make his lying so overt is a wonderful gift for those who, like adults remaining steadfast in their belief in Santy Clause, are in dire need of having their tattered, fraying illusions eviscerated before their very eyes.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

You posted fake news about Trump’s approval rating being in the high forties the other day. No recent poll says that. The average of the polls, taking in polls from ‘left’ and ‘right’ organizations, has him at about 41%.

I did and there was. If you can’t find, don’t know what to tell you, Jim. But be that as it may, 41% is better than 29% if it were that low, then it’s panic time, but as such, it’s about usual and not that bad actually given what just happened.

"Border, Drugs, Illegal immigrants, wall, MAGA, 1 more week to decide, I'm gonna blame you guys this time on tv so don't even think about it"

Well, if Nancy wants to lie again, then it’s ok, then Trump will do what he needs to do and declare a national emergency, simple as that. Now let’s see her work her magic then.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

How far my nation of birth has fallen. The Trump Presidency unraveling further into the bowels of repugnance and (spoken as a liberal who is originally from Pelosi's district) the Democrats elect a corrupt and hypocritical leader as speaker.....again....

I have long given up on the fact that any of the "leaders" in the U.S. have the interest of their constituency in mind and their actions are all related to either the acquisition of or maintenance of power, something the founders of the U.S. warned against.

It is interesting to see the average citizen or average person claim victory for "their side". Yes the U.S. does in fact have "two sides". These sides however are not "Democrat" and "Republican". These sides are the "Elite" or "Political class" and the rest of us. The State of the Union must go on.....however many realize that the true state of the Union is about as divided as we have ever seen it with no true sign of anyone that can heal this division emerging in the near future.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

41% approval is not usual...lol

It depends, now if we’re talking about ?Trump, he’s always hovered consistently between these numbers, so for him, it’s actually not that bad really. Once he gets in his 20s then we can star to panic, but again given the events swirling around him, the numbers are not that bad.

Why is 29% the number you picked for "panic time"? Wouldn't it be safe to say, the GOP should be panicking now? I guess they want to lose.

Not really, but If I were them, I would do more outreach to grow the bass, in that sense the GOP is very lazy.

This sentence doesn't make any sense. I hope he does declare a national emergency. The wall won't get built during his time in office either way, which means it won't get built later on. It might be the best option, and then the dems can justify calling a national emergency on real problems, like gun crime and move on NRA.

Ok, you can believe that, but if he does declare national emergency it will get done, but what’s more important, The Democrats need to get some of their legislation through as well and they need to hurry up with that, because many of their supporters and constituents are not happy about the progress or lack there of for not following through on their promise. As for a move on the NRA....they can try, but I think at that flashpoint you will see 1861 all over again.

Fat shaming and judging one on their physical attributes. Big no no

Sorry, he also got beat up by a bald old fat man (Rush Limbaugh

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

At least pretend to tell the truth:

“Pelosi’s approval rate dropped by six points during the 35-day government shutdown, as 47 percent of Americans surveyed rated Pelosi as “very negative,” while only 28 percent rated her favorably.

President Donald Trump’s ratings remain relatively unchanged, with 43 percent of Americans approving of his job performance and and 54 percent disapproving.”

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Fat shaming and judging one on their physical attributes. Big no no

So what? Still no wall. If Trump's hair style didn't look like a dead ferret and had real teeth, didn't fatten himself up on cheeseburgers all night long, and had normal colored skin there is still no wall.

Fat shaming Trump people is fair. Because Trump voters are witch shaming with Hillary Clinton. They say she is a witch so it is fair to say that Trump is fat and orange, with fake hair. Also, Ann Coulter says Trump is a WIMP (her words)

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I’m sorry to labour the point,

Don’t worry about it, I’m not mad.

I guess if you guys don't feel the need to panic, you'll have a pretty miserable election day in 2020.

Oh, if had a dime for every doom and gloom of every supposed scenario that I’ve heard. Yeah, right....

Trump's base is so small that the GOP doesn't care.

But he has the GOP support of 80% so that’s pretty good

It's peanuts, and people with peanuts for brains, and if that is all they focused on, Trump would lose by a landslide in 2020. They need to work on people that matter, which includes the EC.

An unlikely dream. It's already projected to take many, many, years to build. I guess if GOP held the oval office for the next 20 years with more nationalist (see I'm staying away from calling you guys racists) nut jobs at the helm, it might get built.

Yeah, yeah...again, the thing is, it doesn’t matter how many years it will take, the point is they have already begun construction on some parts and if he declares a national emergency it will be done immediately. No one wants anyone of the Washington establishment Republicans, definitely not the majority of conservatives and as for the Democrats, they want to run hard left or Marxism and socialism with a sprinkle of fascism to spice things up? Hey, if they go for that, Trump will definitely win in a landslide.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Ok, so it means, you really don’t know.

What is the big deal that Trump doesn't get his wall? It has become his Xmas toy that he is throwing a tantrum about. Why didn't he just go for the 25B$ border security bill 12 months ago? A simple dumb wall cannot overcome ladders and shovels.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

What do you think about Dems costing us 11 billion when we could have built the wall for 5 billion.

WRONG!

Proof:

President Donald Trump said he’d be responsible if the government shut down

(news source)

One reason why Ann Coulter says Trump is a wimp. Trump got his butt kicked by two girls when whimpered all the way home.

Repeat yourself much?

No, that's Trump with his delusions (sometimes happens to people in senior age, not all, but is happening with Trump). Trump's top 10 vocabulary includes "Wall" "Concrete" "Mexicans" "Hillary" "Emergency". His brain is deteriorating and is not intellectual and his limited vocabulary and is afraid of Hillary all the time. He is not a mentally healthy orange man.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Yes you are - if JT posts an article on Blumenthal, I'll be glad to comment on it - this threat is about Trump. Stop with the weak evasions.

Ok, so both men lied and the Democrats are out to get Trump, Nancy and her posse.

I agree, can’t refute that, but that’s past us, can’t turn back time. Now in the here and present, let’s see what the weak Democrats will do, will they keep their promise or not?

But that didn't happen did it? So Trump shuts down the government causing needless pain to the economy and families, let alone endanger our security - why? Why wasn't it funded between Jan 17 and Dec 18? The whole shutdown could have been avoided - and Donnie wouldn't have had to suffer the humiliation from Ann Coulter.

Why?

I don’t see it as a humiliation, she’s just a best selling book offer, she knows nothing about politics, I always find it amusing when Ann says something, she funny.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Readers, you are going around in circles and just bickering. Discussion on this thread is ended.

31% does not represent a majority, doesn't even represent a larger minority,

Quite true. However, it appears that you may be ignorant or not familiar with how US presidential elections work. While a candidate who boasts only 31% support of Hispanics would be fatal for a presidential candidate in a direct democracy, it is enough to secure a win in a representative one.

Had rural whites alone or even all whites, male and female, voted for Trump in 2016, that likely would still have precluded him a place in the Oval Office. This demographic would have to contend with being dispersed among various voting districts where they may hold only a fractional majority, or be in the minority outright. Additionally, you have a reality where this demographic is also in bitter ideological feuding amongst one another in various districts and states. Therefore this pro-Trump faction would require at least a nominal pocket of support from other key demographics. They managed that feat in places with significant and growing enclaves of foreign-born Hispanics: Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio, and the Deep South. In areas where voting was down to a razor-thin margin, it took only a couple hundred or so Hispanics in each district to turn the vote in Trump’s favor, thereby ensuring their state would allow its electoral votes to him.

Believe it or not, there not a statistically insignificant number of Hispanics who are unhappy with the Democratic Party for a variety of reasons, and are willing to stand behind Trump—self-evident flaws and all.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Trump hasn't won a wall. Lawmakers won't find common ground. He'll either further dig himself into a hole by closing government again or declaring "national emergency".

And still the Democrats won’t be able to pass legislation, personally I really don’t mind if Trump has to negotiate and go a little less on the, but not giving up on it, a bit of compromise, so where do the liberals stand? So far NOT when it comes to border security, they say it, but never mean it, nor do they ever show it, so now it’s time to see if Nancy is a talker only or not.

Either way, he takes the hit.

And from the polls, she is too now.

So then the rational and logical thing now is for the Democrats to stop saying No to everything and try to sit down and make a serious compromise if they ever want to get something done legislatively.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

This should tell you that it wasnt any one race that won the Dems the house it was the womens vote, its not difficult to understand why

But women also need to understand the way they’re moving this war on men crap and if it keeps going there could be a backlash at the polls again where you see men rising up, because this constant emasculation of men across the country will in no doubt backfire at this rate.

Still can’t get over that Gillette commercial

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Hold on a sec, I thought you didn't believe in polls.

I pretty much don’t, but if you go by them, she’s not looking to clean on this one, to as bad as Trump did, but she still got buckshot.

This is basically what a man who thinks he needs to defend himself for raping women tends to think. And again, with the polls,

Buba?

we know you only read polls on infowars etc. Not worth mentioning...

No, you don’t know what I read, nice try though.

I'm not sure what you mean? People who rape, should be labeled monsters. People who talk about grabbing p**** in the locker room, cheat on their wives, jokingly call a woman Pocahontas, well, I think its pretty justifiable in labeling these kind of people pigs. But I guess you're ok with all that eh?

I do not know how we got on the subject of rape and monsters, but I’m used to you guys going on a tangent....anyway, back on point, the #metoo and the so called war on oppressed women (whatever that means) is at best fictitious. When you have to go around feeling like you have to be sorry and basically apologize just for breathing doesn’t inspire confidence at all, another reason why the sexes are growing apart in an extreme unhealthy way.

its not war against all men, it war against chauvinistic men that treat women like objects and second class citizens,

Tell that to the millions of men that watch that stupid Gillette commercial, don’t give me that crap! Women have it better now than at any other time in our history, and all you have to do is look at the Democratic House.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

That or they play into Trump's scheme because of their self-motivated morals and unfortunately for the majority, these include racist ideologies. These same people who believe in "innocence until proven guilty" will also judge a person by the color of their skin.

Really? Seems like Democrats are doing that when it comes to White people.

They would support a travel ban of Muslims because of one's religion because they are scared of what they aren't.

What a load of crap! Indonesians, Dubai, Jordanians weren’t hit by the ban. Well, so much for the Islamophobia argument.

They seriously believe that terrorists are flooding through our southern border.

Yes...

https://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/terence-p-jeffrey/579-illegals-caught-southwest-border-fy17-not-mexicans

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

that sounds kinda "sexist" I thought liberals dont do that kind of thing.

...Trump being beaten up by two girls (Pelosi and Ann Coulter). Yes, Trump is a real wimp

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

I am shocked by how well she ran this round against Trump.

Reallly, I don’t know of any Democrat legislation passed by the newly elected congress, if tha was indeed a win. So Trump go nothing and neither did the Democrats. McConnell grinning.

By following up so quickly and re-extending the invitation she shows herself to be the better opponent, and she maintains her own integrity and dignity. Well played, Speaker Pelosi. Well played.

She really had no choice because even though Trump got the majority of the blame for the shutdown, Pelosi's numbers shot up as well, so she does feel some pressure as well as her constituents and the new socialist Democrats are pushing more to get their agendas through the Senate. Love this President. Never retreat, never surrender.

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

He will be lucky if she doesn't get mooned and have shoes thrown at him. The new members of the house are animals.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

And Trump accepted. It looks like both sides are trying working to get out the cul-de-sac Trump took our country into.

...and that the Democrats refused to help fund border security, it takes two to Tango.

Today, Pelosi offers Trump something, and Trump accepts.

To do the SOTU. Pressure is building Nancy...

That's called give-and-take to move forward. 'Cause Trump doesn't want another shutdown, 'cause he took a beating, and Dems don't want another shutdown 'cause its bad for the country, and American, while they blame Trump correctly for the Trump Shutdow, really just want stuff to get done.

Likewise and the Democrats and particularly Pelosi doesn’t need more growing pressure from her constituents and newly elected socialist Democrats. So the best thing would be is for both sides to come to a middle ground.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

Pelosi keeps her promise and allows Trump the SOTU on after he reopened the government.

She could very well have delayed it, but then when dealing with toddlers you cannot be one.

Yeah..uh-huh....she knew full well that she was getting a lot of gruff for being petty, that’s the main reason she scaled back and allowed him to do his SOTU because Democrats know in the future everything they do can always come back on them if the roles are reversed. I don’t like Pelosi, but dumb she is not, she wants to remain speaker for awhile and needs all the support she can get now. Good and smart move Nancy....for once.
