Finding ways to deal with climate change needs to be a priority.

The US needs to reduce its dependency on burning so much fossil fuel. The country needs to find better ways to conserve energy and improve alternative forms of generating power.

NB Fossil fuels will be burnt for a long time; we need to burn much less. Starting now.

The US needs to cut back on defense spending, stop fighting wars for oil, gas and their shipment and instead use taxpayer moneys to rebuild the country.

I disagree.

The economy MUST be the first priority. Everything hinges on a strong and independent US economy. As you said, fighting war for oil is stupid. I agree. That is why the Trump policy of seeking American energy independence is crucial. It makes it pragmatically possible to stay out of the Middle East. For all his faults, Trump at least didn't start any new wars. And he insisted that Europe carry its fair share of its own defense burden.

The environment? Private industry will take care of it. When it is profitable to sell batteries instead of gasoline, it will happen. Ditto most cleaner energy sources. I am surprised that the one best cleaner energy source (nuclear) gets so little attention. It is an ideal stopgap until other forms can catch up.

There are several issues with "renewable energy"

Most 1st world developed countries have "on demand" capability. When the sun is down and wind stops blowing, you have to rely on a second infrastructure of Hydro or Nuclear if you want constant power. Solar and wind are weak energy sources, so you end up using massive areas of land just to make a dent. Solar panels have a finite lifespan and must be replaced, so the cadium in the PV cells must be disposed of. Under Obama, billions were invested in renewable projects, with little to show for it.

It makes everybody feel good, but Im still in reality and agreed, leave Trumps energy independence success alone.

Texas voted when they came for their oil and gas jobs.
