We could save alot of money by pulling our troops out of South Korea. Especially since they don't want to be a team player anyway. Leave them to North Korea and China.

With all that the Pentagon and government has done, I think the partial shutdown is the least of what is damaging U.S. cred.
In fact, I can only see withdrawal as IMPROVING U.S. cred.

He's right.

Hagel is a warmongering fool.
Either some Ceasar or Napoleon will seize the reins of government with a strong hand, or your republic will be as fearfully plundered and laid waste by barbarians in the twentieth century as the Roman Empire was in the fifth, with this difference, that the Huns and Vandals who ravaged the Roman Empire came from without, and that your Huns and Vandals will have been engendered within your own country by your own institutions.

It is a farce. Either countries like Japan or SK want the USA's protection or not. There is no reason to believe the USA military will not protect them. It would. of course, be better if Japan stepped up and changed its constitution to be more proactive through a constitution change.
ControlFreak
The only constitutional change Japan needs is one to make the self-defense force constitutional and that is it.
But Japan does not need American protection in reality anyway. The SDF is just fine as it is.
America needs to cut the excess and maintaining bases in Japan is one of them.

Yeah, bring the US troops home from SK and see what they want to complain about then. Save some money in the process. If NK takes over SK then their economy will collapse and Japan can pick up the slack.
Sorry, I'm getting way too cynical about SK after Park started to whine. Hypocrite! When Kim Jong Un has his feet up on your desk we'll see how far your complaining gets you.

Oh yeah as if spying on them and the red line with Syria hasn't damaged our credibility closing some national parks and sending those who spy on everyone home will. (Sarcasm)

America should close all foreign bases. It's not our job to play world police, South Korea and Japan can look after themselves.
