I believe the Pentagon as far as I can throw it... Invasion of Iraq based on 'proof' that Saddam had WMDs... Now they want the world to believe that China is gearing up to attack US assets? Wasn't that North Korea a few scant months ago?

USA is truly a rich nation. If it cut its military budget in half, its budget would still be the largest compared to everyone else combined. It could use that money for free healthcare, free education, and then it wouldn't need to attack countries because they would no longer be so completely stupid

I believe it was Eisenhower who said that the biggest threat to America was the Military Industrial Complex. Seems he was right and was ignored but the population too busy to care as they are polishing their military grade firearms, because that man down the street looked at them funny and is obviously following them by always being in front when the gun toting American tyres to follow them. And they kind of look none American.

And the US military doesn't train to attack Chinese targets?

Yeah right, are we to trust the Pentagon over China now? It was the same story with North Korea as well.
North Korea and China are far more trustworthy and moral than America, as other posters here have also noted. America always needs a foreign enemy to justify its military spending

I'm with krustytheclown on this one. Everybody is training to attack everybody else. It's the name of the game. Be prepared to hit your opponent first or hit them back . . . hard.

$190 billion?
Can’t have that. Time to spend, spend, spend.

As if America doesn't do the same types of military training themselves. Good on China for taking leadership in the world. They have proven themselves far more open, liberal, and protective of human rights than America

LOL great comedy bro.

Yeah, so that’s what the left try so hard to convey. Somehow, when it comes to international geopolitics, No one really listens to the left.....thankfully.
Jimizo
Depends on which member of the left is speaking.
Do you remember Trump gibbering about Ukraine in his car crash interview? Remember Sarah Palin talking about Russia? Remember Herman Cain with his ‘stans’?
It’s unfair to characterize the right by the standard of these clowns.
It depends on which member of the ‘right’ you are talking to.

Contrary to popular belief, it takes THREE to start a fight. The two about to dook it out and the other one smiling sweetly in the shadows. Why is it that we'uns have to gird up to protect usselves against them'uns, while them'uns gird up to protect theyselves against usns?

China's military and territorial expansion agenda has been known at since 2002/2003. In fact the goal of replacing the U.S. as the dominant strategic power in east Asia has been openly declared by PLA generals themselves. Anyone who has followed the news during this time knows this article is hardly surprising.
I would trust the Pentagon more than the PLA which fired on it's own people at Tiananmen Square and represents a dictatorship that prosecutes it's own citizens who speak out against the CCP.
Just like Xi Jing Ping 's declaration that "China has no intention of militarizing the South China Sea". Blatant lie.
Jimizo
Anything from the Pentagon on this subject is like asking a barber if you need a haircut.
The CCP are clever, manipulative scumbags.
Toss of a coin for me.

A Chinese General recently stated that the South China Sea military installations are to protect China from invasion. There is no known country wanting to invade China now, in recent memory or in the foreseeable future. That being the case they are for something else. Perhaps to defend China when they strike first at someone they don't like. Someone powerful and with a long reach. That makes much more sense.
SuperLib
Well, what else would they be training for? Gardening?

USA and Japan is always one step ahead of China and Russia. I have great confidence in USA military strategy against China and Russia. No doubt about that. USA and Japan knows what China is doing behind diplomatic relations. China is still struggling to match US and Japan military tech, everyone knows that.
Matt Hartwell
Far too much overconfidence. It is clear that China and Russia have closed the gap and surpassed the U.S in some areas, particularly hypersonics.
I think there needs to be a lot more coordination between U.S, European and Japanese defense researchers and manufactures to secure our freedoms. We are still at the stage where Lockheed Martin v BAE is the norm, Boeing v Mitsubishi Heavy etc. And competition is a great thing, but I just feel like certain areas of research are too important and the time necessary to bring something useful to the table, far too short, to continue to rely on private sector competition as the norm, certainly in the U.S and Europe.
Trump, Merkel and Abe need to get together and say ok we need to put the jousting swords down for a while and work together on some of the really important stuff that we all need.

Blimey, that's an eye opener. I hope the US has not sunk so low as to make plans to attack anyone being the peace loving nation they are. Albeit they are perpetually at war, but that's for good things like bringing democracy to people, ridding the world of dictators, destroying weapons of mass destruction and making sure everybody gets a fair share of dwindling oil supplies.

China's military is training for strikes on Taiwan and annexing by 2020 or 2021.
