Trump did campaign he'd be more hawkish with the military

To support which partners?
'Conditions-based'? Stabilize? I have a problem believing any invading military can provide stability for any length of time in a foreign country. The anti-foreigners in Syria, be the foreigners US, Russian, Irani, Saudi or from any other country, will always be seen as intruders by some, risking guerrilla retaliations. And as Kissinger said, if the guerrillas don't lose, they win.
All foreign militaries should leave Syria. All foreign entities, government or not, providing weapons of any source should leave Syria alone and go back to their own countries. The US, Russia, Iran and Saudi have lots of serious problems to take care of.
Let the Syrian people decide the fate of their nation themselves. And find alternatives to burning so much oil and gas!

There is no reason for the US to be there!
The US didn't defeat ISIS!
Russia defeated ISIS!

Russia ran out of cash, just like the Pentagon predicted, after 6 months of a bomb and hope campaign. A campaign that saw indiscriminate double-tap strikes on hospitals, and schools from flying antiques. And now Russia veto's UN investigations into war crimes and chemical weapons attacks.
Not much to be proud of....

What a mess. And people can laugh at it but just ask a Syrian person how they feel about what's happened.
Both Russia and the US have behaved shamefully in the region.
Both at odds with each other, regardless of what happens to the people on the ground.
