I'm glad the military has publicly stated that whatever these UAP's or UFO's are, they're unidentified, as far as we officially know, that is. I think they're tourists because in a universe this big it makes perfect sense that tourism would be a HUGE industry. Either that or maybe they're watching us because Earth's the star of an alien sitcom about talking monkeys.

If someone does know what's really going on, I wish they'd share it with the rest of us.

Waste of money.

Americans are struggling with poverty, crime, racism, etc. Not UFO's.

I couldn’t agree more.

The US governmen doesn't want us to know there are things that they don't know about. Why would they reveal it if they did encounter aliens from other planets? The US is involved in so many secret wars right now.

Yes we should be exploring what is in our airspace. What we think are UFOs could be another country spying or testing our defense, among other things.

The US government, esp. the trump administration doesn't want us to know there are things that they don't know about.

Um, the US government released the video, and they've admitted they have no explanation for it.

My gut is telling me these things are not from outer space. I'm not opposed to the idea that there are other intelligent beings somewhere in the universe, but what I saw on those videos just seem too small to be from another planet in a distant solar system. My sense is these objects have a terrestrial origin and the US Navy especially wants to figure out who is making them and what their technology is.

Perhaps but if they belong to an adversary with an advanced technology i suspect there will be nothing said by way of explanation until the US has mastered whatever technology is involved in these objects.

Spielberg made a great film but now even he has become a sceptic.

In the years since mobile phones with video recording capabilities have become ubiquitous the number of reported UFO sightings has drastically decreased.

I don't consider investigating them to be a "waste of money". They are unidentified, in our airspace, and therefore a potential threat to national security. Especially as I currently believe these are terrestrial in origin.

But for the whackos, if these are "alien" maybe they can give us a vaccine for COVID19 since they've been abducting humans and playing with our DNA for quite some time.

It's entirely possible that Earth is visited by aliens as travelers in the Sahara visit an oasis. There's plenty of water and more importantly fresh meat to be had before continuing their journey across the galaxy. Whether these things are from Earth, and man made, or from outer space we need to know. I've witnessed super fast objects moving in the night sky, stopping dead then moving off again at speed in the opposite direction. Such things are real and it's right to try to discover what they are and if they are a threat or not.

UFO is an old term and it does NOT mean "space ships". A glowing ball of swamp gas is an "unidentified flying object" when you see it flying/floating/hovering but you have not yet figured out what it is yet. Astronauts have seen things in space no one can explain. Its like a caveman out on his own and frogs start falling from the sky. When he goes back to his tribe and tells them, they will probably think he is nuts but its a real phenomenon and it took us time to figure out that its real and how it happens.

As our technology improves there are going to be more and more man-made objects flying around that people won't be able to identify. One guy's drone experiment is going to be another's UFO.

This will be far more beneficial to us than missions to Mars, so I approve. What I don't approve of is the secrecy this new unit will surely maintain.

We have people working on tiny deep space probes right now. There are huge advantages in small size.

It's so vain of us, as a species, to think that in a universe so vast and infinite, that we're the only ones out there.

Although, it's also vain to think that in such an endless universe, they'd be interested in seeing this little backwater planet who's inhabitants are doing their best to wipe themselves out in a variety of unpleasant ways.

Or maybe these UFO's are simple probes visiting farm Earth from a hostile farmer planet to see if it's time yet to reap the harvest? We mistreat and eat almost every other species on our planet. So it's possible that actually we ourselves could be food for another alien species far technologically advanced than ourselves and with an appetite for Earth flesh.

I, for one, welcome our new flesh-eating overlords.

You guys are so naive. This is secret money going to the Space Army Academy to shoot down Chinese and Russian satellites in space.

...if they had, the things would not be "unidentified".

An amusing number of posters actually seem to believe that we are being visited by aliens.

There may well be intelligent life out there, but as far as we know there is no way to travel the vast distance to earth.

Ummm, how about as far as they know.

It's so vain of us, as a species, to think that in a universe so vast and infinite, that we're the only ones out there.

If the universe were infinite, that might be the case. But it's generally considered not to be so. So rather than vanity, is it not a question of knowing how unlikely an event the formation of life on this planet was? The more unlikely, the less chance of their being life elsewhere. Are we not still in the dark about how life started here - many theories, but nothing conclusive? (Please correct me if I'm wrong about that.)
