I expect the "disgraced" General will have a soft landing in the private sector, perhaps as a lobbyist to the Department of Defense or else by endorsing Viagra in TV commercials.

Not much of a spy if he couldn't even keep his miserable affair a secret! I bet it turns out he has been doing the recipient of the mails too.

Broadwell looks like someone from brazzer promoting a dvd "all in".

Perhaps Americans should put more effort into their own problems instead of creating problems for other nations. It would appear that America needs the extra effort.

He should be best friends with Bill Clinton. Neither can be trusted yet held key positions in the defense of our country. But dare if a young service member of the U.S. Armed Forces cheats on his/her spouse - - - jail time!

It won't be the case, but I wish this case would just go away. Terrible for all the families involved.

I feel sorry for Petraes' wife and children, but really the guy is being dragged through the mud FAR more than anyone else who committed adultery would be. The FBI investigating and outing him?

Tom DeMicke: ""Neither can be trusted yet held key positions in the defense of our country."

Why's that, Tom? because they are human beings and fallible? They both held and did a good job of holding the positions they did, and suddenly knowing about extra-marital affairs doesn't change that fact one bit.

Yep, and remember all this fuelled by the same party that told us that sex scandals are all A-OK when it was about Bill Clinton. I said then already wait how this changes when it become politically opportune to play up a sex scandal.

Of course this is one gigantic diversion. You might call it "Get Bengazi out of the news". And alas, with compliant media it is working.

And what's equally amusing is the further implication of General Allen with this second side dish, Ms Jill Kelley. Silencing both Generals with sex implications. Wonder if any cigars were involved?!

Why don't we see a headline like: "Broadwell shocked at boyfriend's forced resignation" ???

Smith "extra-marital affairs" are against good order and discipline are punishable under the UCMJ. Since both are in the military both should be punished under article 134. Maximum punishment. Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for 1 year.

Really? When? Be specific. Cheating on your spouse is not a crime in America, so if someone was sent to jail then it was for something else besides infidelity.

Now if you were talking about the Muslim nations, the wife who cheated wouldn't go to jail, she'd be stoned to death. The husband who cheated... would probably be the first in line to do the stoning of his illicit partner and the (all male) crowd would cheer him on.

lucabrasi, it is against their military code. While civilians can do things military are held to a higher standard. He was one of the highest ranking soldiers in the US Army. So he must set the example and follow the rules. How can he expect others to follow when he does not? Here is another Article 125 about sodomy.

Discipline is the problem in the US Forces. It goes from the top to the bottom.

"Here is another Article 125 about sodomy. ............. It goes from the top to the bottom."

It sure does...

Yet this man prosecuted others in the military for the same thing. It does not get more shameful. Do you not see the problem? He was at the top of the chain of command installing discipline in the same offenses he was committing.

Yuri, according to the testimony to the FBI under oath, they did not start the relationship when Gen.Petraeus was in active duty. The relationship started two months after he became a head of CIA. Therefore the punishment will not be imposed against him. For Broadwell, she has just lost her security clearance status today and many more will follow.

This is very unfortunate for all of us as we lost a leader who knows how to get out from Afganistan. Well, this is a global site, and I thought I need to correct your misquote. Also, I am posting something else you may want to read. Life is not that simple as a black/white and everyone makes mistakes in life.

A survey by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago revealed that at least 25 percent of the men and 17 percent of the women admit that they have indulged in an extramarital affair at some or the other point in their life.
