He's tough on drugs. Seems like a good thing.

It isn't. I hope this has been informative.

Someone is planning to remain in power to avoid persecution for killing tens of thousands of drug addicts and peddlers. Intending to kill more..

This guy is a scumbag who should be in the Hague.

His 'drug crusade' is a murderous charade! In many ways he is like that bastard Fernidand Marcos.

Doing the old Putin trick to remain in power with Mededev. Appoint a figurehead but you hold the power.

You beat me to it.

Wouldn't be surprised if Duterte would run again for president after a brief stunt as vice president.

Exactly. Putin held the reigns all that time and this loumouth thug is a paper VP only.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss! it's the S.O.S.

Another loud-mouth, viulgarian wannabe dictator from the Trump era who'll one day be in gaol. The only question is which of these asshats heads there first...

He’s got a Napoleon complex and is still butt hurt he couldn’t get a visa into the USA decades ago. The chip on his shoulder is huge and he’s a sellout to China. It’s slowly becoming Philippines, Republic of China.

But very much tougher on the poor.

How many presidents have been friends of the poor that country?

He's tough on drugs.

But very much tougher on the poor.

Seems like a good thing.

Only if you belong to the corrupt prosperous minority of those who possess political power and who hate and fear a violent explosion of desperate resentment from your permanent underclass excluded from any share in the country's wealth.

Never gonna happen: Duterte knows exactly how far he can push the envelope with the godfathers of the "international community" who have issued their useful idiot with a "Pass the Hague and collect your loot after cleaning up the blood " card because he's just one of "OUR" scumbags.

Excellent news. He has cleaned up all the drug problems a lot!

A politician's ambition for power is the same wherever one may turn his/her eyes. When North Korea announced power would be bequeathed from father to son, the world was stunned.

After stepping down from presidency, Vladimir Putin was appointed prime minister by his former Prime Minister Dmitrii Anatolievich Medvedev when the latter became new President. Thus, there was no legal obstacle for Putin to become President when time was around.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump wanted to continue to stay in power, but unluckily enough for him, he couldn't. He must have been envious of his counterparts in other countries.

So, would Philippine President Rodrigo Dutert’s gimmickry be surprising?

this is exactly how Putin became dictator, served his max terms then played role of prime minister with a puppet president, Dmitry Medvedev, had the constitution changed and then ran again for presdient with Medvedev not contesting.

Seems like Philippines is going down the same path

Which is worse, the bloody campaign or the drugs?

The bloody campaign. I hope this has been informative.

He is not a scumbag. He is a colorful leader and we need more like him.

Murderers are bad, actually. Weird that I had to say that, but here we are.

@Reckless.

There is merit to your question.

Over time and unchecked with the DPRK dispersing the Meth/Coke/H-and others to the Yakuza, Triads, Korean Mafia pushing that stuff in provinces, cities & barrios. Dope was everywhere before Dito took power.

Over time unchecked? How many lives ruined? Aquino was weak on drugs and before Dito weak and on the take.

The corruption and drugs will bring down any society over time. Its a cancer that spreads.

The thing people do not realize in Philippians. Yeah lots died. But the ones that did. They had warnings and continued to push and use. So bloody campaign, no more worse that Philippian politics.

Salamat Po! Dito Rodrigo Sana ol! V.P. Go!

My wife and kids are safer because of you and the squad of anti drug police and shooters.

Deal and die PI- that's it.

By Duterte's own words, he said he will run as VP so as to avoid being prosecuted by the International Criminal Court for "crimes against humanity" as he believes he will be immune from suit if he is elected.

He has everything to gain as his daughter or his aid are seen as frontrunners in next years presidential election.

"Then I will continue the crusade. I'm worried about the drugs, insurgency -- well, number one is insurgency, then criminality, drugs."

Pandemic response and corruption should be his priority. He already promised that he will end drugs and crime in 3-6months during his campaign. After 6 years, he's still blabbering about it. What a clown!

Anyway, he is one who has a will, intentions and a strategy. Now compare with all your other countries’ local leaders….lol

@Express sister

He is not a scumbag. He is a colorful leader and we need more like him.

He is very smart. Cunning and clever. He is a killer of drug pushers and people who ruin lives.

He likes big business. He hates the Triads and Yakuza and Korean Mafia who try to bring in corruption.

He wants the dope out of PI. And what wrong with that? He told Obama off. I loved that.

He just wants what best for the Islands.

Wouldn't be surprised if Duterte would run again for president after a brief stunt as vice president.

Unless they change their constitution, he's not allowed to serve a second term.
