"And who are you to interfere in the way I would run my country?"

Sounds like Trump.

11 ( +15 / -4 )

Y'all bash this guy, but every Pino and Pina I ever meet seems to support this guy.

Yes, dictators can be popular. Until it's too late.

Civitas: "Y'all bash this guy, but every Pino and Pina I ever meet seems to support this guy."

Yeah, and I bet you every single one of them is an ex-pat who does not live there. I'm quite sure if they lived there and he had his thumb on them you'd get a different answer.

Anyway, if Duterte doesn't want to answer international bodies, let those bodies cut off any and all aid, and encourage all nations to do so.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

re: ""And who are you to interfere in the way I would run my country? You know very well that we are being swallowed by drugs," Duterte added."

Perhaps but last I heard wasn't didn't the country belong to Phillipine citizens and run as they saw fit not a dictator? It was the Phillipines as a nation that called on the UN to investigate.  Seems that Duterte is eliminating voices against him under the pretense of fighting drugs..

Philippines' Duterte tells police, soldiers not to cooperate in any drug war probe

He's a scumbag and a thug. Pure and simple.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Dutourette is at it again...

How he got elected in the first place is beyond me !

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Sounds like Auguste Pinoche when he stepped down as Chile's Fuehrer in 1990. He was a senator, and it  wasn't until he was retired in 2006 that Spain was wanting to try him for abuses and the scumdog died. Chile gave this fascist a state funeral anyway (he didn't deserve one) and some spectator spit a goober onto his face (he deserved it)!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Allowing and encouraging the police to act as judge, jury and executioner on the street is never a good idea, regardless of how popular a leader might be at a particular place and time. It's dangerous from any angle you look at it. At least arrest those accused of crimes first, give them a trial and then shoot them if that's the court's decision.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Filipinos in Japan sing his praises, because they’re out of the picture, and accept the ‘official’ news, whereas Filipinos back home don’t dare speak out through fear.

The man is a brutal uncouth thug.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Hiro S Nobumasa.

So, they have Facebook, is that really a reliable bastion of truth?

How naive can one get.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I can't wait until the day Duterte faces an international tribunal war crimes.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

One of the best bass player of Naha

This is the person you continually refer to whenever there's any criticism of the dictator.

How does your mate feel about the murders and rapes in the Phlippines?

Is human rights something to be relegated to the opinions of pro-Duterte bloggers? If that's the case, it really is time for external investigators.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

All the Filipinas I speak to in Snack Bars etc highly respect Pres. Duterte.

Odd, that.

Any I've spoken to (not just in this country) are extremely worried about what this man will do next.

Murdering and raping the poor - who are the usual people involved in drugs - is hardly commendable.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Just to add - it is the poor who mostly suffer in the drugs trade. Be they addicts or pushers.

The real criminals, the elite (or those with close ties to the government/authorities) get away with their activities.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

What I don't get is that DTE loves to buddy up to and praise the PRC and their leadership, but that is where all of the drugs and precursor chemicals for the drugs in th PI are coming from. I just don't understand it.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Anyone who won't cooperate with a UN human rights investigation either has something to hide, or doesn't care if it looks like they have something to hide, which means they definitely have something to hide.

That said...

"And who are you to interfere in the way I would run my country? ..." Duterte added.

Is a fair point for most of us. The solution is that if Duterte's tyrannical injustices bother us, then we should simply not do business with him or anyone who does business with him. When a monster won't listen to reason and you aren't a stakeholder in their choices, the only ethical choice is to walk away and do nothing whatsoever to help the monster.

Civitas Sine SuffragioToday 11:20 am JST

Y'all bash this guy, but every Pino and Pina I ever meet seems to support this guy. I think Westerners are massively out of step with the general mood in many non-Western countries these days...

Having the same experience, however all the ones I meet are overseas Filipinos ...

1 ( +4 / -3 )

DTE is using the drug problem as an excuse for his abuses. DTE is like DDT, it kills the flies but it's dangerous to people too! DTE doesn't care about human rights, only himself. He is scum.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Do people still believe that the leaders of America and Canada really cares about da-kine human rights?

Chucks!

Ain't no way they do. human rights is almost part of the past now, and that's sad. DTE, DJT, Xi and others are all scum because they honor, support or defend the human rights and freedom + justice that they should. I know some stronger words to describe them but you probably know them already. 'Loving father'? I don't believe in that 'cult of personality' crap. That ain't too good for anyone.

*'Only you can set you free.'   *LIVING COLOUR

too late

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

I agree, DTE is like DDT because the PH is flooded with flies aka scums.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

BTW, DTE is not the first and worst DDT.

When Tokyo was firebombed by allies USA and Canada even though there were no scums there but only innocent women, children and the elderly , the mother of all DDT was born.

Do people still believe that the leaders of America and Canada really cares about da-kine human rights?

Chucks!

America colonized the Crimea of Asia and Canada sent a Titanic -sized radioactive garbage to the PH and refused to take it back despite pleadings from the PH.

And you call the president of a freely elected sovereign Republic, scum?

How dare you!

At least, DTE maybe DDT to you but he is a loving father to all the Philippino people EXCEPT the scums.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I agree with Hiro S Nobumasa. Let us foreigners step back and allow a sovereign nation run by itself, without interfering. The Republic of The Phillipines is a democracy (not Communist), respectful to Japan, and part of Japanese-USA Military alliance. Furthermore, Japan in the past few years have supplied several Navy Patrol Vessells for Philippines to secure her waters and keep out PRC. They also have island disputes with PRC, just like Japan. They also have a very anti-Drugs stance, like Japan. So many similarities.

All the Filipinas I speak to in Snack Bars etc highly respect Pres. Duterte. They say they like his charisma, he is a "Strong Man" in politics (similare to Abe-San) and agree with his War On Drugs. they are the voters, not us.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Hoping DTE will be able to uplift the lives of his people so that the PH will no longer be forced to send her women to work overseas under very tough and sometimes dangerous situations.

The Philippino people are one of the most friendly and hospitable human beings in this planet and maybe their hospitality is the best that this world can offer.

It's ironic and very sad that the PH remains one of the poorest country where poverty, crime, graft and corruption and where the powerful and influential Catholic Church bans birth control leading to more babies and a population explosion that is so massive that it is even observable up above in the Space Station!

Add to this the suffocating tentacles of the druglords who fed the babies of the Catholic Church with drugs like yaba making them useless and dangerous to society and breaking the very core of the Philippino family thereby destroying the very matrix of PH society.

This is the very sick society that DTE is trying to fix. The road he will be traveling will not be a smooth one what with the still very entrenched and untouchable former police generals and still active cops who are still in the drug business in cahoots with the elites and powerful politicians?

When these narco cops kill their very own drug pushers to cover their trail then it is still DTE who is blamed by the human rights people right away!

Hoping DTE and the Philippino people the best of luck !

No matter what the foreigners who have not even live in the PH says I hope DTE and the Pinoys will persevere in fighting for a safe, peaceful and prosperous country.

At the end of the day the PH belongs to the Philippino people and we foreigners should respect their sovereignty and their choice for president.

After all who are we foreigners (ICC) to judge their choice?

bass4funk:

If he ever should make it to that point.

With th the way the CIA is lurking around with the PH military?

Doubt he will make it to that point but we may witness the split of the southern part of the country at the outset of a very bloody coup.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Y'all bash this guy, but every Pino and Pina I ever meet seems to support this guy. I think Westerners are massively out of step with the general mood in many non-Western countries these days...

-4 ( +8 / -12 )

wow! I had no idea Duterte was murdering and raping the poor!

Funny how the same histrionic charges are leveled at anyone you don't like.

Saw a guy jaywalking?

"He's a rapist and a murderer!!"

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Odd, that.

Why? There are some that love Duarte and some that don’t. You may find support for the man atrocious, but others may see him as a courageous hero.

Any I've spoken to (not just in this country) are extremely worried about what this man will do next.

There are people that will feel like that and others feel he should be more tough.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

And this from one of the best bass player in Naha.

Allistair Carnell :

They don't follow official news .

As if you've not heard about FB.

Lito , one of the members of a band in Naha who is from the PH stays connected with his friends and family 7/24.

What they fear are the powerful druglords who still have connections in the police , media, Senate and even the Church which is one of the reasons why DTE is having such a difficult time eliminating drugs and keeps on being lambasted by the Western press.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

Alistair Carnell:

What would be your answer if you were the one asked the question?

"And who are you to interfere in the way I would run my country?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

I can't wait until the day Duterte faces an international tribunal war crimes.

If he ever should make it to that point.

bass4funk:

If he ever should make it to that point.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Let the International bodies investigate the US invasion of Iraq first before ganging up on a president trying to save the future of their children from the suffocating tentacles of the drug industry.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Overseas Filipinos are the complete opposite of the rich, powerful and influential high class people.

They belong to the less privileged, poor but hardworking class who have to sell their land or borrow money to pay the recruitment agency so that they can find a job overseas.

These are the people whose lives are ruined when the children they left end up being drug addicts.

The OFW's are also the class who loves DTE because he takes care of them.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

The fact that you like dictators and self confessed cold blooded killers is no surprise.

Would you like to see all poor people wiped out because of their situation?

I certainly am not.

I'm sorry to say, however that it is a fact that you support drug dealers freely dealing drugs to young children and would like to see police officers all wiped out rather than enforce the rule of law.

Sad. I can only imagine the horror of the upbringing in those who support young children being force-fed drugs.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Hooray for President Duterte!

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

"And who are you to interfere in the way I would run my country?"

"Sounds like Trump."

Wrong.

No , it's the other way around.

It's the PRC that loves to buddy up with DTE just like what Abe- san and Trumpy-san did too!

It's called geopolitics.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

stormcrow:

You are absolutely right.

But consider that the Western media is selective on their kind of news.

Their might and power is on full display against DTE but consider this unheard of news from a very anti-DTE local paper.

https://www.rappler.com/nation/157082-one-million-drug-addicts-surrender

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Toasted:

DTE is not a dictator.

He won by a massive landslide.

His 87% approval ratings up to now is impressive even by your Western standards.

He is not a rapist and the poor he protects.

Those connected with the drug industry, the elites in the government who are habitually corrupt are the ones worried about what he'll do next.

But the majority of the Philippinos love him.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

zichi :

Duterte a devil re-incarnate and he isn't the only one.

I know, that's what so many druglords call him.

In Kadena they used to have a joke that sayeth birds of the same caliber cackles together!

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

zichi:

Do you believe in the justice of the druglords ?

60 % voted for the other 3 candidates and not necessarily against DTE.

If you do your math getting 40 % amongst 5 candidates is already a massive landslide.

But that's not the point, even if he only won by a slim margin in a free and democratic election then you being a civilized and ahem, law abiding lad have to respect that too.

BTW, comparing DTE to Hitler just further exposes your extreme ignorance about the PH that is maybe only exceeded by your extreme arrogance .

Again, be reminded that druggies are also not welcome in Japan.

Just a friendly reminder.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Filipinos know better about their country drug situation than anybody else. The UN and Human Rights organizations are trying to bully Governments from poor Asian countries and other part of the world.

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte is doing for his fellow Philippine citizens.

If the drug dealers and traffickers afraid of dead and then they should stop selling the drug. These drug dealers do not care about other peoples' Human Rights.

Why should Government needs to care about their Human Rights anyway?

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Today  12:46

Duterte is just trying to fix his country by protecting their youth from the 4-D grasp of the drug industry.

One of the best bass player of Naha who is from the PH showed me a video of their former Justice Secretary who the West and Human Rights pontiffs hail as a heroine singing and dancing with the band of a famous druglord who she allowed to have a band and recording studio INSIDE the national penitentiary!

https://www.facebook.com/dutertebatosupporters/videos/936969996431133/

It's a pity Agnes Callamard didn't join the singin and dancin!

Judge for thyself !

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

zichi:

So casually calling a democratically elected president of a sovereign republic who won by a landslide a devil-reincarnate is your brand of rule of law and order?

So the druglords who ruined so many young Philippinos lives must be angels to ya?

In Naha we have an old sayin that says empty shells makes loudest noise.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

zichi:

Duterte a devil re-incarnate.

Funny, but that's what druglords call him.
