Excellent news.

Now that the disgraced, pro-Communist China Duterte is just a stain in history, the Philippines can engage in vital combat practice exercises with their fellow democracies. Added to the military alliance pact signed with Japan this week, this is good for the region.

You sound "keen to engage the enemy "

Nope - but very keen to deter the enemy - as are the 20 freedom-loving democracies participating in Operation Pitch Black including Japan, Italy, Spain, Germany, Australia, The Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, The UK, NZ, The US and many more.

As a wise man once wrote : "If you wish for peace, be Ready for War."

Help me now, I'm not a military buff, but I'm guessing Vietnam War hand-me-downs?

The FA-50 began production in 2005. Any sort of insulting of the Philippines armed forces just highlights China's barbarity for picking on them, though.

Get them some anti-ship missiles. Even if they are only mockups, it will put the fear in the Chinese pirate.

Philippines bought an unspecified quantity of BrahMos anti-ship cruise missiles from India last year.

Not mentioned is that the Italians sent the aircraft carrier Cavour and it's air wing of F-35Bs to this same exercise, a first for the Italians.

Well good for you Fighto san...

I was just noting that "Japan, Italy and Germany " were the ENEMY in WW2 not so long ago.

How many millions dead from that trio.

OK...I'll give Italy a "hall pass "....I dont think the Italians were ever committed to The Axis .

China claiming Italian waters now ?

{Desert tortoise above }

It's a bizarre world where Australia's largest trading partner, China , is also the expected enemy in any new confrontation.

I'll remind people that the Aust. Defence boffins USED to war game against war with Indonesia, as that nation was considered a threat.

Apparently "satay chicken diplomacy " sorted that out.

And really....Aussies and Phillipinos wont stand a chance against China .

Better start thinking outside the box {the one the USA manufactured for everyone }

Fighto....when will you be signing up ?

You sound "keen to engage the enemy "

Oh goody....the Italians are war gaming with Australia now.

Crappy record in WW2.

As kids we used to make jokes about the Italian Army prowess.

Like ..."How many gears does an Italian tank have ?"

Answer _Five in total. 4 reverse gears and 1 forward gear {in case they are attacked from the back }
