Just saw a video of this on the BBC. Look how far the Spratlys are from China. Who do they think they are? Maybe these are just thugs they pick off the street in China and think that this is the behavior around the world.

You really do seem to place much importance on a non-UN court of arbitration where one party didn't even show up, from a small organization with an annual budget of roughly $2 million and no enforcement mechanism.

If you don't show up for your court date, you're going to have problems. That applies even to criminal China. The enforcement mechanism is basic human decency but yeah something else will be needed in the case of China.

Cool! You just solved the Senkaku/Diaoyu Island dispute. High fives all around.

If China could get a UN tribunal to rule on whether they are rocks, sure. China doesn't respect international law, though.

Uninhabited = no EEZ. And this is not something that can be changed by enlarging islands or stationing soldiers on them to flaunt the law.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

They are referred to as the Spratly Islands. Certainly there are islands there. It sure looks like Taiping Island is one of those islands. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiping_Island

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Are you suggesting the Taiwan/ROC military base on Taiping Island/Itu Abu in the same area is criminally occupied?

Yes. It is classified as a "rock" by the tribunal ruling the PRC and ROC should be following.

So basically the CCP adopted a criminal policy. The CCP had no means to enforce its ridiculous claim in 1949.

The "Eleven Dash Lines"Map,foundation of China's claim of South China Sea. Announced in 1947 by the Nationalist Party(KMT) when Chiang Kai Shek regime still in China. After the KMT fled to Taiwan succeeded by Peoples Republic of China in 1953. Then PM Chou EnLai simplified two northern lines became : The Nine Dash Lines Map. No countries protesting to China 70 years ago back then, why the Philippines suddenly laid claims to those islands?

So basically the CCP adopted a criminal policy. The CCP had no means to enforce its ridiculous claim in 1949. Other countries probably thought it was just a curiosity that they would make such a claim. It's also before UNCLOS which laid out exactly what was allowed. China needs to back down and accept the ruling that was handed to it by the UN.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It's time to sort this out.

All Countries appear to be overstepping the mark - China, Russia, US , etc. (Yes I include US, and other Western Countries too)

The UN needs to put a stop to all of this otherwise, it will become the League of Nations II. And I doubt there will be anyone left for a part 3.

How is the US overstepping the mark here? China claims the ENTIRE South China Sea despite only bordering one side of it. They ignored an international tribunal that ruled against them. The UN isn't going to do anything as it is basically the Security Council at this point.

I'm not a fan of third term Xi. Hopefully he feels established enough to cut deals in the South China Sea and with the Indians. That would bring tensions down across Asia.

This book was recommended to me by a poster here about a week ago, Strong Borders, Secure Nation (Fravel). China has used a variety of tactics, including concessions to solve 13 of its 14 land borders. It's past time to solve the last one. This will only be possible if both Xi and Modi make concessions.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Don't true the CCP to do anything that isn't of self-interest, not believe anything they say. The CCP lies daily to their own people and the world. It is easy to see.

Interesting that the CCP never even existed when this map was made. Mao wasn't even born... There was a Chinese emperor and a monarchy... Even the ROC is older than the CCP.

Does this mean the Japan never existed before 1868? The

LDP was formed in 1955. It never even existed when Takeshima was named. Even the CCP is older than the LDP.

Silly argument.

China is NOT alone , these days everyone is claiming rights to territory

Countries occupy land that once belong to others. It is what it is (as Americans would say). I’m not sure why people only mention Tibet and East Turkestan as territories the Qing conquered. Every square inch of China is occupied territory, and the same with France, Australia, England, and so on.

Fantastic level! The question arises: who and where to kick out? Who should decide this? Any courts?

Will the "free" western world decide this? Or is Wikipedia enough?

The LCS haven’t worked out so well for the USN, but maybe they could be a good option for the PN?

There is actually an ancient map showing exactly this.

What territoriess does Russia claim rights to, where its foot has not stepped on? Pure curiosity

See the above response. The Czar and the monarchy ruled Russia well before the USSR came and went. Putin's Russia can't claim the territorial conquests of governments that no longer exist any more. Otherwise, how much territory can China claim from Russia under the CCP due to ancient times? And Japan too?

2 ( +5 / -3 )

claiming rights to territory they never even put a foot on, Russia, China, Israel, Philippines, Mexico, Argentina, Iran, Greece, Turkey and many more

What deep knowledge of world ancient history! Chapeau:)))))

China is NOT alone , these days everyone is claiming rights to territory they never even put a foot on, Russia, China, Israel, Philippines, Mexico, Argentina, Iran, Greece, Turkey and many more, and the plan is keep on claiming and pushing the lie until your own people start believing it then you start a war or just grab whatever you can get and hold on to it.

The word "aggressor" in relation to China is an obligatory attribute of almost any local narrative. And "freedom-loving" - in relation to America and its vassals. You are elementary zombies! Don't you mind yourself? China has committed much less aggression than your entire "free" world ....

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

The growing hostility and hegemonic goals of the aggressor CCP in the South China Sea have resulted in a considerable deterioration of relations between the Philippines and the CCP. Many other Southeast Asian coastline states are being intimidated and coerced by China, undermining their efforts to exercise their sovereign rights under international law.

Rumor has it an ancient map has been found drawn on a cave wall that shows the moon belongs to an Aboriginal tribe in northern Queensland. They can no doubt claim full and undisputed ownership taking the matter through Chinese courts. The cave map has been carbon dated and found to be around 40,000 years old, ensuring it is the first claim of ownership of the moon in human history.

No, you are mistaken. The most ancient creatures on Earth with a claim not only to the Moon, but to the entire universe - the ancient ukrs. This is even mentioned in ukranian school history textbooks. Learn The Ukranian language and you will be aware of Ukrainian history. The Chinese with their history are a trifle compared to the Ukrainians in terms of antiquity and merits before the world.

No doubt they will soon find an 'ancient' map somewhere showing most of the Philippines are part of China.

China is a real bully and trying all tricks, word twisting to cover their wrong and enforcing hooligan like action and assertiveness to claim what is not theirs. If all countries behave like China in just simply drawing the nine dash lines as their territories, then this world will never live in peace. It's time for all peace minded and democratic nations to stand united and get rid of the CCP once and for all. Salute to the government of the Philippines for standing firm in their rights. Don't get intimated by the CCP.

China is saying the South China Seas is a part of China. We are building there. You are welcome to try and stop us. Maps? What do maps have anything to do with anything. We dash these lines.

China is also trying to broker peace in Ukraine.

Both are true.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

Seems the US loves marcos now =)

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

China's bullying tactics are a far cry from it's call to respect national integrity as in its' proposed peace plan for Ukraine. Basically, China is two faced when it comes to its' own interests.

I thought you were having a laugh but it turns out you're right according to China Daily News your number one source for all things China.

The usual Sgt Schultz response from the CCP- "I know nuffing"

And hopefully that tells you why such claims are rightly placed in the garbage: they are based of the concept of tribute and bear no relation to the modern world.

With Team America on board what does the Phillippines have to worry about

We're not allowed to base F-35s and nukes there. Otherwise you might be right.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Outrageous behaviour by the Chinese thugs. Stay the course, freedom-loving Philippines. The free world is with you.

So much for those numerous people banging on about how "peaceful" Communist China is - and how they are always the victims of Japan, The USA etc - and that they "never cause trouble".

The PRC are just bullies in the region on an undeniable program of expansionism. They have no allies except for fellow totalitarian states Russia and North Korea.
