I have lived in the Philippines off and on over the last 5 years. I have yet to meet a Filopino who did not appreciate the drug war.

The Philippines has senators on down the line involved in the drug trade. The western world does not understand how effective this actual war was. Now the drug lords are moving back. I met one who just came back from Hawaii to set up shop again at a cock fight (another misunderstood Filipino past time). It is time for the west to stop forcing it's cultural values on the world and accept people are different.

A lot of people crossing their arms in that picture. It’s a sign of utter astonishment that their government did that.

Exactly and it made the country safer than it was. I went to a friend's wedding down in Mindanao a few years back. It was under martial law then. Everyone told me that pre-martial law, there were dead drug users everywhere. Also people were often robbed and shot if they didn't give up their money to these drug addicts.

I'm pretty sure that not liking corrupt security services that can, and do, kill virtually anyone they want with impunity isn't just some quirk of Western cultural values.

Most Filipinos that I've met don't like drug dealers (who in their right mind does?) but aren't enthusiastic about a police force that can shake them down or even murder them without any oversight either.

Give the people JOBS and ways to earn a living so they can get off the streets and away from drugs, but when you are scamming and starving them they will do anything to survive.

China was the sick man of Asia since mid 19th century, we have been haunted by the Opium trade for 100 plus years. After 1949 ,the People's Republic of China rooted out that deadly substance: Opium.

Because Mao's iron hand crack down of that substance and the people who involved. Durete wants to be the Mao of Philippines who wanted to get rid of adduction drugs but you know that country is a bananas republic, they lacked the iron determination like the Chinese and the Philipinos will continue to suffer because their know towing to western pressure.
