Fired a gun in a restaurant?..weeks latter killed his girlfriend. 5 years perhaps 8 months? I know South African jails are no picnic but a history of casual/ public misuse of firearms and the killing of his partener would suggest a longer custodial sentence.

5 years for killing someone and I've read that he could be out within 20 months. You serve longer sentences for assault and shop lifting! Though I suppose being white and rich helps. I bet that if he was a poor black african he would've got 30 years minimum.

Thar's a very light sentence for killing someone. Nelson Mandela served almost 30 years in prison and he didn't kill anyone.

He was not found guilty of murder. I think this is the equivalent of aggravated homocide. Its been a difficult case and I don't envy the judge. But I could only see the five years if it was guaranteed all jail time.

A big shame about the lenient sentence. Once again, there is no justice in the world. But a big joy that this non-news story about this scum loser will finally go away. I cannot help wondering why reputable news organizations including the BBC gave this non-news, non-story so much coverage. It was worse than OJ.
