He had a long life, which was clearly well-lived. Lucky man.
CrazyJoe
Sorry to hear of his passing. Condolences to his family and friends.
The articles in Playboy magazine really were good, very, very good.
dcog9065
He had a very enviable life I would say
blvtzpk
Apparently he had large shares in Kleenex as well.

Yep same here. In my early teens, always chose Playboy for its thoughtful/insightful ME coverage and Penthouse for science & research news. Treasured those mags and often hid them so that no one in the house (especially mum) could get their hands on them. Knowledge is power, as we say!

@Laguna
Yep. The articles.
Where an I going to go now for such incisive analysis of the Middle East problem? : (

Oh wow. RIP Hef. One of the pop culture icons of the 20th century really.

Talk about a guy "living the life!"
I'll be honest. I looked at the pictures.

Hef, you made this world a better place!

@goldorak
Apparently there are all kinds of equally percipient sites out there on the web....

I've heard through second hand sources that Playboy's interviews with leading intellectuals were superb.

dcog - I believe he also owned shares in Pfizer. He was honest in admitting that but for Viagra and its peers his lifestyle would have tapered off in older age.

You have to give the man credit for his accomplishments and their longevity (and his own), I think, as much as you may not like what he created. RIP. A life pretty well-lived, I'd say.

Guys' hero
Likely died with a smile on his face in bed
RIP Hef - he's been in heaven all these decades anyway

Sexist, archaic crap.
He did what he did, made a lot of money through exploitation. Let's hope that's the end of that.

One moral is that meanings of being a 'good person' or a 'bad person' blur or slip away.
Hef comes across as a relatively honest person though, relatively.

Taking women down from the pedestal by acknowledging their humanness was a huge but fundamentally only half step forward; the objectification of women common in his era today is only embarrassing and insulting. Still, perhaps that era was required on the road to true equality between the sexes - and let's not forget how far we are from that goal. RIP, Hef. I'll remember you for the articles. (Not.)

RIP King

Let's just agree with he lived well his life. Legendary.

No one say.. he's in a better place now.

Thanks for the memories.
TorafusuTorasan
and thanks for the mammaries (airbrushed and otherwise). Must have needed a team of artists back in the days before computer graphics and surgical implants.

As one of the latter day so-called girlfriends has testified, Hugh "thrived" on having multiple girlfriends, with all the drama that ensued. Nobody was really allowed to go out and have their own life and he became more verbally abusive in the end. Even the great articles were largely gone by the 1980's.
"It's what made him feel relevant and wanted and desired was to have these girls fighting over him," she told Cosmopolitan, which is pretty sad for a man half his age.
Rik314
Loves 'Casablanca' so he can be all bad.
Goodlucktoyou
Will school girls still wear his socks?

"bow-tied women in bunny costumes"
Gorgeous, voluptuous bow-tied women in bunny costumes.

Some say Hefner was luckiest bastard on the earth. Now he just departed for another planet or another adventure. He lived full of life but left just like when he comes. What else he can take to the other side? Nothing. Enjoy the life while you're alive. R.I.P Huge Hefner.

Very interesting man, whatever you thought of him, the man led a great life, had a fantastic mansion, had legendary parties and had the most beautiful women on the planet, never got into anyone's face, wasn't a political guy, very peaceful, soft spoken and often charming. The man did make sex in this country a less taboo subject from the past and made it a normal activity to talk about and to enjoy. RIP Mr. Hefner.
Lizz
Hefner admitted himself that he thought of women as objects. The question is whether he personally knew of crimes going on the mansion, such as the numerous women connected with both his empire and the Bill Cosby allegations.
bass4funk
Good point. And as big and as busy as that mansion was, there could have been the possibility that he was oblivious to some of these alleged crimes that took place there.
