The OECD should be coming together to empress on social media companies the importance of presenting an acceptable news feed. AI should make this easy.

Starmer have to go.

if you think that social media censorhip will SOLVE your problem at home you are either very wrong or very naive.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

Starmer whee is your concern for the dead children?

He's looking to a dangerous leader, tarring people with labels and trying to control freedom of speech.

Starmer have to go.

Nah.

He’s been in the job about a month.

if you think that social media censorhip will SOLVE your problem at home you are either very wrong or very naive.

You could be right.

Still, you can improve things. Social media is often spammed by preposterous sock puppets and other assorted trash spreading hate against groups they don’t like - in this case Muslims.

Finding better ways to keep this rubbish off is desirable. Like keeping your toilet clean.

So much negativity on a PM who one month ago won a landslide victory against the Tories in their greatest loss of all time. Elected PM just 9 years after becoming an MP. Great achievement.

Starmer visited Southport and visited the hospital.

His problem this weekend because misinformation on the social networks about the attacker being a Muslim and boat immigrant has aroused the hatred of thugs who riot, burn, and loot shops.

Do you think that is acceptable?

What would you do in his place?

Nigel Farage, leader of the right-wing Reform Party stirring it up. Tommy Robinson in a suit. Robinson drinks Scotch. Farage pints.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

No surprise that Farage is stoking up the conspiracy theorists. I heard one interesting view that this is a way for Farage to make inroads into the younger vote - the over 60 gammons aren’t going to be around for too much longer.

Reform candidates know the hymn sheet and are pressing the climate change a hoax/scamdemic/proxy war buttons.

Get the youngsters interested.

Farage is not stupid. A shyster and a manipulator, but not stupid.

Separately, a Channel 4 analysis showed that 49% of traffic on social media platform X referencing 'Southport Muslim' - in reference to an unevidenced claim about the attacker's religion - came from the United States

No doubt some of them claimed to be Brits and wrote like a North American claiming to be a Brit would write.

A cross between Enid Blyton, Jack Sparrow and Del Trotter.

Keir Starmers government, opposition parties needs to in complete unity, Great Britain towns and cities, streets cannot be subjected to mob rule, extremism, seething hatred.

Trust, confidence that policing, law and order is just and equitable.

The thuggery, police station set ablaze, rocks and bricks thrown at emergency service must be dealt with harshly, without fear or favour.

In days gone by, mass public discord/disorder was meet with extreme brute force....

The British government, anxious to stop the protests, passed a law called the "Riot Act." It allowed public officials to break up gatherings of 12 or more people by reading aloud a proclamation, warning those who heard it that they must disperse within the hour or be guilty of a felony punishable by death.

Of course UK has moved on. However sooner rather then later examples will have to be made, alongside some soul searching.

Starmer has in many respects, after barely a month in office, been thrust into a political baptism of fire.

Calling for Starmer government to step down is ludicrous.

Where is Sunak?

Sunak has barely registered a mumble.

If Nigel Farage, now a Member of Parliament, not seen as a troublemaking heckling activist, then Farage will need to put forward realistic, workable cross community solutions.

This was always the issue with Farage. He’s spent his life heckling and moaning.

Is he capable of switching to doing something constructive?

Does he actually want to?

Jimizo, this whole shocking tragedy in Southport has affected a number family members, listening to nonsense from business friends, that see little more than mad mullahs, and scrounging boat people.

I know these people up to a point, they are farmers.

The family arming business has been employing skilled growers and pickers from eastern Europe since the early70's. They are loyal.

When reading headlines/reports .....

More than 35 rallies are planned in towns and cities across the UK, raising fears that scenes already seen this week of police being attacked and vehicles set alight could be repeated.

Then, its time for communities to dig deep and have the necessary difficult conservations.

Starmer has divided the nation by letting down the working class people he is meant to represent.

4twars ago he made a big song and dance about going down on his knee for BLM about a black criminal who died in America while being arrested.

Children are murdered in the U.K. and locals were angered and confronted him when he went, he ignored them as if they didn’t exist.

Hes caused more division in his short tenure as the Tories did in their whole time in power.

He has been PM for only a month but has divided the nation according to you. How did he achieve that?

4twars ago he made a big song and dance about going down on his knee for BLM about a black criminal who died in America while being arrested.

He wasn't PM then. But millions of people across the world "took the knee" against racism in the US.

Children are murdered in the U.K. and locals were angered and confronted him when he went, he ignored them as if they didn’t exist.

The local people were hurt, upset, and afraid about the violent attack against young children. Many people in Southport welcomed him. Southport has been hijacked by right-wing thugs who attacked the police, rioted, arson, and looted shops. Those thugs don't even come from Southport.

Hes caused more division in his short tenure as the Tories did in their whole time in power.

Sorry, but that is an outrageous comment that can't be left unchallenged.

I asked what you would do in his position. You didn't answer.

A glaring omission on my part.

A cross between Enid Blyton, Jack Sparrow, Del Trotter and Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.

No more convincing you see.

The people should be vigilant against radial Islamic terrorism.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Starmer has divided the nation by letting down the working class people he is meant to represent.

No he hasn't. He's had one month. After the last government destroyed the nation over 14 years. They put sanctions on themselves. Has any other government let down working class people more?

The people should be vigilant against radial Islamic terrorism.

Radial? Is that when the terrorists all stand in a circle? Hopefully they face inwards.

Winter fuel payments ended for millions of elderly, many of whom are struggling as it is. Very un Labour like but a sign of what this version of Labour is all about. The majority of elderly vote Tory so though the most vulnerable they are of low priority.

Minorities will be pandered to for more votes although 80% of British are white and only 4% black BTW.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The majority of elderly vote Tory so though the most vulnerable they are of low priority.

Fake news by bitter people because they were exposed for 14 years of policy failure.

If you think being critical of a new government coming in a month after a 14 year failure makes you look anything like intelligent, it doesn’t.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

The majority of elderly vote Tory so though the most vulnerable they are of low priority

The majority of elderly voters did not vote Tory in the last election.

Winter fuel payments ended for millions of elderly, many of whom are struggling as it is. Very un Labour like but a sign of what this version of Labour is all about

Simplistic. The criticism of the winter fuel allowance was that it was poorly targeted and help for the worst-off seniors needs to be prioritized. Reeves has questions to answer on this. How she deals with it remains to be seen clearly.

She was left with a car crash in terms of finances.

Again, like hysterical calls for Starmer’s government to be replaced, give them time.

I’ll be among the first to shout them down if they don’t deliver.

Judging them after less than a month in office is hysterical and childish.

Minorities will be pandered to for more votes although 80% of British are white and only 4% black BTW

Labour suffered defeats in constituencies and loss of votes to independents over their stance on the situation in Gaza.

Not much pandering to minorities there.

You haven’t read much on the last UK election, have you?

Your knowledge of Canadian politics seems much more detailed

Not fake news, seniors are usually Labour voters, this wasn’t a usual one due to the Tory’s collapse so if you judge by previous years you will see it is correct.

Jimiizo

Untrure re winter fuel payments, the threshold for stopping payments is very low and the older you are keeping warm to live is more essential.

There were small areas where they lost due to their Palestine stance but they will fight hard to get them back. At present supporting Israel is best for them politically on the worldwide stage. They will do anything to stay in power as will all parties and their history is one of pandering to minorities.

One thing I will give Starmer credit for is the banning of hormones and sex changes on the NHS for young people who think they are trans that he changed his mind on a few months ago.

If you could keep the discussions civil without talking about Canada etc in future it would be appreciated.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Not fake news, seniors are usually Labour voters

No. They. Are. Not.

You are flat out wrong yet again.

Pull up stats from recent elections where seniors have usually voted Labour.

Untrure re winter fuel payments, the threshold for stopping payments is very low and the older you are keeping warm to live is more essential

Simplistic again.

What I posted was not untrue. I posted that the criticism of winter fuel payments was that it was poorly targeted.

Reeves is apparently looking at other options to ease the strain on seniors.

Again, let’s see what is delivered.

They will do anything to stay in power

Welcome to politics.

Longevity is a success in some ways. Look at Trudeau. Canny political operator.

Tonight hundreds of Muslims calling themselves the IDL a]have headed to city centers to confront rioters. Social media messenger by them included call outs to kill the opponents.

Well done Starmer, you have caused total carnage in a month.

BTW these Islamic chaps are far more right wing in their beliefs than the other side.

All of these violent protests, riots, arson, and looting have nothing to the three dead girls in Southport. Very sad and disrespectful to use them for violence.

Misinformation is still feeding the hatred.

All those violent people need to be identified and prosecuted.

At this time the BBC News are live from the cities with protests.

The posting of fake news about the Southport attacks led to people believing the attacker was a Muslim and arrived on a boat last year. None of that is true.

I condemn all violence, nit just from one side.

Riots in Northern Ireland as well, are they also English gammon right wingers or is there a bigger problem at hand, one that has been festering for years?

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

ffs

it is the far-right thugs who are making the violence.

The majority of British Muslims are peaceful law abiding people. Many are born there. I dislike religions like Islam but freedom of religion allows people to practice whatever religion want to.
