When the police come to my house I usually drop any bladed weapons that I might be carrying-in France I would be very quick to do so as the police there are actually a branch of the army.....

I find this confusing. Are they illegals asking for police protection?
Residence permits have no value anymore in France. Just go in, you're good.

The authors may have.
When I lived in Vancouver, with a large Asian population, I found that the Asians there called themselves the Asian community, and included Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Filipinos and more. They had no problem with mixing the terms, because they felt part of that community.

There MAY or MAY NOT have been. Nobody checked. The opening sentence states; "Chinese immigrants and China’s government are protesting a police killing in Paris that prompted violent street clashes and exposed the fears and frustrations of France’s large Asian community." Chinese immigrants, the Chinese Government and suddenly it's the "Asian Community".
Again, "MIGHT INCLUDE". Only a non-Asian person who sees no difference among the numerous Asian peoples and cultures,. or a China nationalist who believes that all "Asians" are Chinese (or of Chinese decent) would have no problem with mixing the terms.

“opposition to violence”? Seriously? Throwing projectiles, arson, destruction of government property because they oppose violence? Are these paid protestors, or Chinese government agents?

Seems to work most of the time for blacks in the US, tho.

“They are targets for crime because they often carry cash and many don’t have residence permits, so can be threatened easily. They’re angry with police for not protecting them enough.”
I find this confusing. Are they illegals asking for police protection?
With chants of “murderers” and candles that spelled “opposition to violence” lining the road, scores of demonstrators broke down barricades, threw projectiles and set fire to cars. Because that ALWAYS gets support for your cause...

The problem is that the French police generally always get off with very serious crimes, often despite being caught in the act - even though that this particular incident does look like Darwinism in its' purest form......

Sure, not a single knife in the house. Will anyone believe this crap? Just give the people who spread these rumors a fish and ask to cut it with scissors.

Its hard to tell what may have happened, even if it was caused or partially caused because of communication issues, I can understand why the police may have forced their way in if they thought they needed to, its what happened next that's most important....
May turn out to be a very sad story.
I don't know enough about France & its Asian communities & relations. But it does seem that some use these bits of news to go on a bit of a rampage.
May well turn both the police & protestors are in the wrong or some combination, I just hope the guy wasn't killed because his French was lacking, tile will tell I suppose...

Let's see, the Asian Community might include Malaysian Chinese, Singaporean Chinese, Hong Kong Chinese, Thai Chinese, Taiwanese, Indonesian Chinese, Filipino Chinese, etc, whose numbers, according to Wikipedia, approach 50 million. I've got no problem with mixing the terms.

Surely they mean 2M ppl of Asian background not Chinese per se!? Completely agree with what Picquart says, the Asian community needs police support and protection, especially in Paris, against other communities.
Harry_Gatto
What? Like they can when in China? Chinese government hypocrisy knows no bounds.
Strangerland
They're not interchangable, but that doesn't meant he terms were used incorrectly in this article. For example:
There may very well have been Asians of ethnicity other than Chinese.

Apparently neighbours heard arguing and screams coming from the apartment, they called the police thinking it was domestic violence, the police show up and demand that the people inside open up, nobody responds, the police knock down the door and were allegedly attacked by the Chinese man with scissors.
There are conflicting accounts about the scissor attack, but from what his daughters said in a TV interview, the father was holding the scissors and he did tell his family not to open the door. They claim that they didn't know it was the police because they didn't identify themselves. The father speaks no French but the daughters are perfectly fluent.

This article flips back and forth between the "Chinese community" and "Asian community". These terms are not interchangeable..
