Which means that now you can request these records. Previously, under Bush's administration, all of these records were top secret, un-reachable and up to the discretion of the President if they were to EVER become available.

Now, it is up to a court of law to make this information available. I quote directly from it: "This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person."

It does NOT block any personal information such as his academic record (publically available), previous travel history (publically available), his birth certificate (publically available), so on and so forth.

This is just more FUD from the Republican fear machine.

On his very first day in office Mr Obama signed an Executive Order (13489) which effectively outlaws any searches into his chequered past by barring release of personal information such as his academic records, travel history, birth certificate and so forth.

Georgia is a very prejudiced place, my gf went to visit her brother who was there on business and was actually called a racist name by some goofs driving by in a car, which I was really shocked at because she's really good looking. Some states still aren't past the 50s and Georgia is one of them. Nothing wrong with doing checks on the Pres, but only the FBI and congress/supreme court initiates those kind of things if I'm right.

I can do the same thing from any of my networked PCs at home or the office for $29.95. All I need is your name and a close address and I can choose your name from a list. Wouldn't be hard to do. Regular employment check any more.

I doubt Obama has a criminal record. But I guess I'm rather curious why this is national news. Seems like (yet more) stupidity. Maybe the government really is a three ring circus?

How far the GOP has fallen. For black bag jobs like this they at least used to get ex-CIA, etc (remember Watergate). These days, however, they have to depend on a couple of redneck cops using a Sinclair ZX80.

The national guard is called out by the State Governor. There is no single National Guard. The president can federalize the guard if there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States. Two Georgia police officers playing with the computer does not constitute a rebellion. Eisenhower federalizing the Arkansas National Guard was done because the governor had previously called out the guard to prevent black students from attending school, and he ignored a federal court order to recall them. I was merely trying to point out the hypocrisy of your statements. I didn't say I was for Bush bending the law. You are advocating the current president to do so, however. The constitution can be changed to make Obama president for life, if you want. But it has to go through the proper legal procedures.

Maybe the president can just abuse the moronic Patriot Act like his predecessor and have these guys locked up as suspected terrorists. At least in this case he would have grounds to justify 'suspicions' (that is, of course, if you actually buy into the Patriot Act and believe it's just. I don't).

I'm sure its OK to call the national guard on citizens of America in disasters or severe riots without calling martial law "New Orleans is an example during the flood. In the pass calling the national guard on city, state, or federal property, including universities has been done in the pass.

Don't forget that a President in the pass had to call the national guard to protect blacks to go to white schools, because of the public uproar and violence to intergrate blacks in education. Get over it, Republicans lost..... and we don't want you back.

AK619 You are totally lost over when it comes to the law. Again, the national guard does not have the power to do what you want. Ever heard of the Posse Comitatus Act? Once elected, the president is not given power to do whatever he wants. The FBI and the Secret Service can investigate. Calling in the National Guard would constitute a crime by the President. And it wasn't the CIA (in charge of dealing with foreign threats to the nation), it was the Secret Service (protection of the president) that had an issue with the police. People complain about Bush going above and beyond the law, but now are screaming for Obama to do the same. Hypocritical, if you ask me. Rogue (or "rouge" as you call them), a couple cops do something stupid and you are calling for martial law!

Obviously, the information they sought using govt property was bad enough to make the CIA call the Police department over the rogue Police Officers. If I was the President, I still would have ordered the national guard to storm there department or the CIA. He is our President, and the election is over, there is know reason why the Police should be looking up that kind of information on our President. They should be made into an example for other rogue Officers who do that stupid stuff towards our President. Obama outta start cleaning out stupid racist Cops.

Now that would give Obama a criminal record. The Unites States National Guard (military) does not have power of arrest on US soil unless martial law is declared. This is simply a case of cops A saying "Hey, I wonder if the president has an arrest record" and cop B saying "Let's look it up on the computer". Nobody is "messing with the federal government." There are no "rogue cops". What you are saying is "We all love the Great Obama and any insult to his greatness must be trampled with the full might of the army."
