That's the 64th this month, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as 4 or more shot or killed, not including the shooter.

Doggar, Mr Noidall’s post are not racist. They are realist. You and many others may not like the information he posts.... If you believe them to be untruthful, then please post verifiable facts to oppose. I was quite surprise to find out that he is actually correct that 9 unarmed black men were killed by police in 2019, 4 of which were killed while attacking the officers. Any unnecessary deaths are too many, but a little perspective is also important.

Daily occurrence, hardly to be classified as news. Until the USA does something about gun ownership it’s not going to change.

"Can people stop calling everything they don't like racist?"

Best response of 2020! Well said, Mr. Noidall.

Put the people who are found with illegal guns in jail. But there is a skin color problem with that plus an anti police movement taking precedent.

How many of the shootings you hear about here in the media mention that the firearms used in such situations are NOT LEGALLY ACQUIRED? FYI, only law-abiding citizens go through the background check process to purchase a firearm, whereas the low-life criminals get theirs illegally, through the black market, with zero checks whatsoever.

A large number of the firearms used in mass shootings have been legally acquired.

But yes, criminals do get access to illegal firearms. Like they do in Japan (yet there is almost no gun crime) and the UK (where there is little gun crime).

In the UK, there are about 30 firearm related murders a year - about 5% of the total. Most of these are with unlicenced firearms.

Dylan Roof (Charleston church shooting) went through a background check.

He tried to buy a handgun at a store but was placed on a three-day wait. The NICS didn't catch a drug conviction, and after the three days the sale was legally processed. He went on to kill nine people.

According to Gifford's Law Center: Around 80% of all firearms acquired for criminal purposes are obtained through transfers from unlicensed sellers, and 96% of inmates convicted of gun offenses who were already prohibited from possessing a firearm at the time of the offense obtained their firearm from an unlicensed seller.

These sales by unlicensed sellers are completely legal. The so called 'gunshow loophole.'

Too late for mass shooters since their guns are often legal. Again thanks NRA

The NRA didn't buy and hand anyone a firearm. There are lots of ways to harm other people. Look around the world and you can see that people find a way, if that is their intent.

At our block parties, people don't bring guns. They bring their kids and snacks and potato salad - which can become deadly in the summer heat. Everyone leaves when it gets dark. Something was wrong with that neighborhood OR some people from outside the neighborhood decided to seek out trouble and caused it. Men from 12-30 yrs old have been doing that since the first humans existed. A few women do it too, but statistically, it is really all about men. Clearly, the solution is to round up all the young men and prevent them from being able to cause problems from sunset to sunrise.

Please note that, according to this article, the gunfire did not start until the 'Authorities' arrived...

Are you implying the "Authorities" (aka Police) did the shooting?

Other news articles, including CNN, stated after emergency services (NOT police) arrived several shots were fired. No police officers fired their weapons in the incident. Police found over 100 cases of multiple calibres on the ground.

How about that lovely place Chicago with its very strict firearms regulations (which again do not affect criminals)?

It does, and I'm not denying that Chicago has a massive problem with gun violence but their gun laws have been loosened up quite a bit over the years. The ban on guns not already registered was struck down in 2010, as well as the ban on keeping a handgun in the home. The ban on concealed carry was reversed in 2013. New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco have stricter gun laws than Chicago. Not to mention that, while Illinois gets an A- for its gun laws from Giffords, it has permeable borders with Wisconsin (C-) and Indiana (D-).

Chicago, for example, the vast majority are by illegal firearms

Thanks NRA

This is news?

Are they going to start reporting every time everyone goes to the store, or uses the toilet in America now? This is just another day in America, nothing special, nothing necessary to report on. Americans clearly don't care about their people getting shot up, the rest of the world shouldn't waste the ink and electricity to waste time reporting it.

@Ah_so very good point. The US desperately needs to fix it’s gun laws, closing it’s gun show loophole, amongst other things. And let’s not forget Canada, which has like 1/10 of the gun murders the US has per capita. And 100 times less by sheer numbers.

I am always amused by the argument that if you want to kill someone, you will simply use another instrument.

When Stephen Paddock killed 59 in Las Vegas and injured over 400, what alternative might he have used other than automatic gunfire? A large bag of ninja throwing stars perhaps?

And if other tools can be used to deliver deadly force so easily, why does everyone choose guns? They are quite expensive, after all. Perhaps we could arm our police with something else entirely - after all, if they need to use lethal force, and that is their intent, they will "find a way". I suggest a cast iron frying pan - useful both to bang people with and is also bullet proof. They could even do a bit of cooking.

I always love when "The Black Market (tm)" comes up. As if there is this shady bazaar down a shadow-choked alley with hawkers selling guns or whatever like its 17th century Persia. People seem to believe that if you want am illegal gun, you just go to your local branch of "The Black Market (tm)" and buy whatever you need. The ACTUAL, sad fact is that most "illegal" guns begin their lives as legal guns. The majority of illegal guns don't come from "The Black Market (tm)". Criminals get their guns by stealing legal firearms from 'law-abiding' gun owners who are too dumb or stubborn to properly secure them in a safe; through straw purchases from LEGAL gun stores; or by using things like the gun show/private purchase loopholes to avoid background checks. If you want to reduce the amount of illegal guns on the streets, you need to start being stricter with regards to legal guns. Requiring gun owners to keep their guns in a secured safe and/or use a trigger lock will prevent criminals from acquiring guns through burglary. Requiring stricter background checks and having mandatory waiting periods will reduce the appeal of 'straw' purchasing. Also, a gun store that sells to a straw purchaser should be held complicit in whatever crimes that gun commits. And lastly, ALL gun purchases/changes of ownership should require a background check - thus closing the gun show/private purchase loophole.

The fact remains that the overwhelming majority of gun crimes are NOT committed by legal/lawful gun owners.

Well that's a tautology but OK. Surely that means we need better laws, in order to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them. Any suggestions?

Mr Kipling - and it probably surprises a lot of us. However, it does not describe what it is like to live life as a black person.

For example:

In stops across the city, 24% of black drivers and passengers were searched, compared with 16% of Latinos and 5% of white people. White drivers were found with drugs or other contraband 20% of the time, a higher rate than other groups; the contraband rate was 17% for black people and 16% for Latinos.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/oct/08/los-angeles-police-stop-search-black-latino

In other words, even taking into account the higher crime rate among blacks, they are disproportionately targeted by the police.

As well as the 2 killed, and seven injured by gunfire.

No, they push for laws the make illegal guns on the streets. I don't see so many illegal guns on Japan's streets. Again, thanks NRA

Canada does not have the same legal gun market as the US, and has a border with America to mostly keep their guns out. So there just aren’t as many guns overall, meaning on a per capital basis less Canadians will be shot.

It’s the same concept as isolating and social distancing in response to Covid. If there is less out there, less people will be hurt. This is true for both covid and guns.

Unfortunately, American groupthink doesn’t seem to grasp this concept. This can be seen by the extremely high rates of death - per capita - Americans face for both Covid and guns, in comparison to countries that have taken measures to manage the risk from both of these viruses.

How about protests & riots against guns in America ?

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

Let's be clear; people intent on doing evil will do whatever they can to commit their evil acts, whether they be Dylan Roof or Homey Gangbanger. Of the many killings in Chicago, for example, the vast majority are by illegal firearms. The fact remains that the overwhelming majority of gun crimes are NOT committed by legal/lawful gun owners. The far left(including Gifford "Law" Center) blatantly ignore the reality that street crime is responsible for the majority of gun deaths, such as the incident in NC and the usual incidents in the Democrat run ****hole cities.
