legalize it, and with the stupendous amounts of money you will make from it, spend it on schools and infrastructure and protesting nature and educating people on the dangers of cociane

We believe it was destined for Australia, where it would have been enough to service the market for one year

"Service the market"

These addicts are a disgrace to their families and to their own race.

You say 30 years now, but when word gets out...

Burn it all immediately.

Don't quite get this. If it was en route to Australia why on earth would it be going through NZ? Much riskier with such a large amount. Perhaps there was a NZ gang connection? Obviously the four leaf clover on the packaging didn't help much either.

Not a drug to use. Becomes an expensive habit for most. Hope they burn it before their announcement.

A few years back a few residents from my hometown were busted in the same area smuggling coke in their sailboat. A lot of drug traffic in that area coming from South America.

3.2 tons will cover San Francisco for about a month, LOL

Imagine if illicit drugs are legalized!!? There will be NO smuggling, NO murders, NO gang fights, NO police chase, NO war on drugs, NO hustlers on every street corner, Much less people in jails, It will free up the Police, The courts, The judges, and the entire legal system will be free and available for much worse crimes.

I know many will think it's a crazy idea!!!! I do too, but this might work since NOTHING ELSE did so far.

Forgot one more thing, TAX the HELL out of it too and every body will be happy, more revenues, dealers and smugglers will go out of business and addicts can have all they want till they drop dead.

Coke addicts are mainly high society and white collar workers so I absolutely agree with you.

But alcohol is respectable because it's legal, right?

Quite a few states in the US legalized marijuana thinking exactly the same thing. Unfortunately it has not worked out that way. The taxes and licensing requirements have prevented a legal pot trade from developing. Legalizing its use as increased demand but drug gangs who's product is untaxed and unregulated greatly undercut the price of the legal pot producers and sellers. Illegal grows have actually increased and not by a little either.

Pot heads, coke heads, drunks, no difference to me. They are all a big drag on honest people.

I disagree, I don't know any "Dealers" that are selling high grade flower the way Trulieve does, for $100 an ounce (Ground Flower variety )

These are examples of what I am talking about.

Unlike alcohol, which is hard to create, and harder to create well, cannabis is a plant that will grow freely if left on its own, and really well if attended to. Most people who can purchase legal cannabis do, and prefer to. But the fact is, when it is taxed, it becomes more expensive, creating an opening for an illegal black market.

So the question is, what is the overall goal? I personally am of the belief that harm reduction to society should be the end goal. Removing the black market, and keeping as many people of drugs as possible should be the end goal. So to that end, I feel legalizing cannabis, and allowing it to be sold tax-free is the way to get rid of the black market. If it can be sold for the same price in the shops as it can on the black market, then there is no profit for the black market. In addition, educate the people, from children on to brochures in the stores, to why one may not want to smoke it, being honest about what it does physically, and let adults be adults and decide if they want to make that decision by themselves.

Of course, the taxation income would be nice, but is it worth the taxation income to allow a black market to persist? Maybe, I'd be interested into some research into this, whether the tax income would offset the costs to society from a black market in cannabis.

Canada has it mostly right. There is still a black market for cannabis, but apparently it is nothing like it once was pre-legalization. It was hollowed out, and now the organized crime is focusing on harder drugs. Something else I've heard that is interesting, but that I haven't seen studied, it seems that with legalization, there is little appeal to want to smoke it, as it doesn't have that edgy feel to it anymore, so many of the kids aren't consuming it. Rather, it's Gen-X and the baby boomers who seem to be the largest consumers. I'd like to see some research into this.

For disposal, I have two words: Cocaine bear.

I wouldn't want to be the guy guarding $316m of coke from a peeved South American drugs gang. They don't play nicely.
