I don't know what the Pope is smoking these days. But whatever he is putting into his peacepipe must be something pretty good. Botanicals = Peace it seems.

The 81-year-old pope assured the group that the Catholic Church was “profoundly and irrevocably committed to reject all anti-Semitism,”

Will that include a strong condemnation of the recent slaughter of over 1000 helpless Semitic civilians in Gaza?

Maybe while he's there, he can ask for evidence proving that Bishop Williamson is wrong.

The evidence is there, Sabiwabi. Always has been. It's been collected, catalogued, and stored for future generations to review and reflect upon. You simply refuse to accept it, just as Williamson does, for whatever agenda you both are pursuing; "seeking the truth" it ain't.

I think the Pope has done plenty on this issue. If American Jews are not satisfied, to heck with them. Its not their business so much that they need be placated by the Pope. The only real beef they have is with Williamson himself.

The Headline is a bit unfortunate. Denouncing Holocaust denial should not be a matter of placating the Jews or anyone but reasserting the truth. The only thing that is irritating to me is that the Pope only mentions the 6 million Jews the Nazis murdered and forgets the some 5 million other victims. This is something that the United States Holocaust Museum does not do. In their online Holocaust Encyclopedia that tell you everyone that the Nazis tried to exterminate, starting with political opponents, Socialists, Social Democrats, Communists, trade unionists, etc., and including Roma, the Poles, Russians and other slavs, the mentally and physically disabled, homosexuals and others. For their "Mozaic of Victims" go to http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/article.php?lang=en&ModuleId=10005149.

The fact is that the Holocaust is even worse than what most people imagine it to be.

This is not to other atrocities, including the recent Israel slaughter of in innocents Gaza.

Back to the Pope, even after having denounced Holocaust denial, he still has Bishop Williamson as an albatross around his neck. The mad Bishop still has recanted and does look like he has a mind to. There is a lesson there about giving jerks a break whist they remain jerks.

It alleges that Pius didn’t protest as Nazis rounded up Jews in Europe and sent them to their deaths.

They were being rounded up and sent to Palestine. Why did the US and Britain close their doors to the Jews after Hitler came to power?

There you go Sabi. All the cause of the Palestinians pain is because the Nazi's were forcing them to emigrate to Palestine. Finally blaming the Germans like you should be.

I think these Jewish leaders are shooting themselves in the foot. This move by the pope only confirms how much power these people have. If Bishop Williamson recants, people will be further made aware of this power. If he doesn't recant, many Catholics and others will have a closer look at the holocaust. Either way, they should have shut up!

Bishop Williamson seems to truly understand and believe the views he expressed. If he is a true Catholic, which I think he is, he will go with the truth no matter the consequences and decide not to recant.

No, I am blaming the Nazis and their backers. Ordinary Germans, Jews, and Palestinians all paid a heavy price.

So you really must hate Nazi Germany for doing what they did to Palestine. Imagine forcing all those people into your lands. I guess you really believe the holocaust never happened.

Are there a lot of Catholics in Israel?

". . . these people . . ."

Sabiwabi, you truly are priceless. Really.

". . . he will go with the truth no matter the consequences and decide not to recant."

Who's truth? Yours? His? It doesn't quite count as truth when only Williamson and a handful of anti-Semites, neo-Nazis, and fools are the ones peddling it. And it especially fails the truth test when it lacks supporting evidence of any significant kind.

Are there a lot of Catholics in Israel?

About 149,000 Christians of varying faiths.

Bishop Williamson stated clearly that historical truth goes by evidence and not by emotions.

I think he is an honest man. He could make an error, but I do not expect him to lie just to keep his title.

There used to be many more, but most left. They are not treated very well by the Israelis, as explained here: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?itemNo=487412&contrassID=2&subContrassID=5&sbSubContrassID=0&listSrc=Y&itemNo=487412

Overly religious idiot Israelis spitting on other people? That is your article? Considering those same idiots also spit on average non-religious Israelis as well, you attempt at an argument is again pretty weak...especially considering (from the article): "Both were questioned by police and the yeshiva student will be brought to trial. The Jerusalem District Court has meanwhile banned the student from approaching the Old City for 75 days."

Yes and since the bishop's evidence is clearly lacking (as is yours) it is clear that emotions are ruling his opinions. That and the fact he is upset because he would like the Catholic church to be actively trying to convert Jewish people to his religion. (This is from his own article where he complained of this very thing, so don't even attempt to refute this.)

Former Hitler Jügen apologises for underling's holocaust denial.

Priceless.

Kinniku,

You're a brave man arguing with the conspiracy nuts. Heh, or you've too much time on your hands ;)

I notice that in this article Pope Benedict refers to the Holocaust by its Hebrew designation, Shoah.

No wonder the various Saudi- and Iranian-backed proxies who "represent" Europe's rapidly expanding 50 million Mohammedans want this man silenced and replaced with a daft, buffoonish cipher like the current Archbishop of Canterbury.

I had a very good post on this site which reflected profound ideas about the essence of our created selves and the benefit of the Jewish people to all humanity. It was deleted. Again is Christianity one of myths, rituals or of the study of truth? The Saint said in around 400 it is a religion of the truth. The true philosophy. I said it better before and it was deleted. It is a shame that truth is thwarted for what purpose I do not know. Probably not a good purpose. What I want to say is we all have a lot to be thankful for the Jewish people. We must all get along as in the Trinity. Maybe it is the Trinity word that got me deleted before. Quite sad. The Pope will surely thank them for their perseverance.

Sabiwabi really shows how those who support Islamic extremist groups are fundamentally anti-Semitic as well, though they predictably claim not to be.

I hope the Pope hints at those in Israel, that they are not the actual Jews of the Bible, and they ought to start to think on that. As for messaging the Jews with a aim to calm the anger, I would say keep talking, lots of it! Forthcoming talking.

My relo was in those concentration camps, 4 times to the gas chambers, and it was full so he missed out. He was not Jewish.

However, that sort of anger is definitely in the air wouldnt you say. Something like, the sword of anger of truth?

kinniku, so I wonder why so many Palestinian Christians left.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That is why I have never liked religions, it causes this type of conflict. Atheism is the only way. Religion and gods will get on the way of our creative minds and will prevent us from harnessing our true potential.

sabiwabi,

so I wonder why so many Palestinian Christians left.

Well, it certainly was not because of what you claimed was 'explained' in the article.

So I guess you do not believe there should be a Jewish state? The religions themselves are not bad, the problem is how some people interpret (or misinterpret) their religion.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It would seem the poster does not believe there should be any religious states. You have conveniently left out the fact that that would also include states such as Iran.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I was curious to know how earthcreature felt about it. Especially when you consider that Israel was created by stealing land from one group and kicking out all those who were not of the same religion! And now the pope will visit this country to placate American Jewish leaders, the same ones who are always demanding TOLERANCE!!!

You have conveniently left out the fact that that would also include states such as Iran.

This thread deals with the pope's visit to Israel, not Iran. Why do you always feel the need to bring up, and usually criticize, Iran?

Oops! You are making up stuff again! Please give us specific proof that Israel kicked out all those who were not of the same religion. If you cannot do so, it would confirm that you have just made stuff up.

You were suggesting Israel was somehow unique (as you often seem to do) and I was merely pointing out you were incorrect. BTW, I don't bring up Iran that often and I don't criticize the country of Iran much either. You, on the other hand, didn't have any idea the east and western borders of the country were considered unsafe. This lead me to believe you had also conveniently forgotten that Iran was a religious state. Does that answer your question?
