The lakeside municipality in battleground Wisconsin finds itself in the eye of a political and security maelstrom following the spasm of violence that has shaken the 2024 campaign and prompted questions about the country's political polarization.

Could be like 1968 or maybe not. An incumbent not seeking reelection?

Which was in the cards even before the assassination attempt.

"Calling any American officeholder Hitler just throws gasoline on the rhetoric, and calling a current president Sleepy and Crooked is not advisable either," said Kutzler, who works for Amazon.

Especially when it is being done by Trump's possible VP.

One thing is certain is that there will be a lot of dancing around the Project 2025 agenda.

Trump did just have his Reichstag moment.

Did you all see the security briefing in Wisconsin for the RNC?

Apparently Wisconsin has open-carry, which means they can carry weapons around in public as long as they do so openly. The police said there was nothing they could do about it because it's the law. However, the police in Milwaukee will be confiscating rocks, bottle and other potential projectiles. Does that sound cracked or what?!

Unjustified references to Hitler and calling half of America "fascist" and "racist" is what is driving the type of violent extremism that lead to this shooting.

Tell JD Vance.

Unjustified references to Hitler and calling half of America "fascist"

It's only the label they don't like. Fascistic policies are fine, it seems. How many would have happily voted for Mussolini's manifesto? Most of those who support the MAGA agenda, I expect.

The last thing we need - and the thing Trump and his handlers are seeking - is to use this unfortunate event as an excuse to mute legitimate criticism of Trump. A second term of who can honestly be called a fascist would be horrendous for America.

Hope law enforcement does a better job this time.

You “expect”, i.e. wish, but you certainly don’t know.

A second term of who can honestly be called a fascist would be horrendous for America.

”Honestly”? No. You want him to be a fascist to fit your preconceptions.

The hatred of Trump and anyone, anyone who would not spit on him is still strong as evidenced by the posts here.

Very true.

Trump did just have his Reichstag moment.

Just utter nonsense

It's only the label they don't like.

With valid reason

Fascistic policies are fine, it seems.

There aren’t any.

How many would have happily voted for Mussolini's manifesto? Most of those who support the MAGA agenda, I expect.

I think it’s out of touch irresponsible rhetoric like that is what turns off a lot of people and pushes them to leave the Democrat party.

No. Trump says the quite part out loud. He said he'd be a dictator on day one. He conjures existential threats to America from non-White immigrants and an expanding cast of internal enemies. He calls the thugs who are in prison for assaulting the Capitol on Jan. 6 “political prisoners.” He praises autocrats such as Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin who depend on propaganda, corruption, and repression to stay in power, going so far as to vocally regret that the constraints on US presidential power do not allow him to act similarly (well, at least didn't until the recent Supreme Court ruling).

"Fascist" comes from the Italian "fasces," meaning "bundle (of rods)," referring to the slavish, violent gangs these people organized. Think Mussolini. Think MAGA. The only aspect of Trump I can find admirable is that he (sometimes) doesn't try to hide who he is.

Donald Trump made a triumphant entrance during the first night of the Republican National Convention on Monday, receiving a raucous ovation from the party faithful two days after a would-be assassin's bullet grazed his right ear.

Trump walked into the Fiserv Forum in downtown Milwaukee with a thick bandage over the ear as the crowd chanted "Fight! Fight! Fight" and pumped their fists, a reference to his reaction in the moments after he was wounded.

That was intense.

"The speech will be a lot different, a lot different than it would've been two days ago," Trump told the Washington Examiner.

'Had this not happened, this would've been one of the most incredible speeches aimed mostly at the policies of President Joe Biden.

Honestly, it's going to be a whole different speech now,' he added.

'I think it would be very bad if I got up and started going wild about how horrible everybody is, and how corrupt and crooked, even if it's true. Had this not happened, we had a speech that was pretty well set that was extremely tough. Now, we have a speech that is more unifying.

It is a chance to bring the country together. I was given that chance. This is a chance to bring the whole country, even the whole world, together. The speech will be a lot different, a lot different than it would've been two days ago…

I've been fighting a group of people that I considered very bad people for a long time, and they've been fighting me, and we've put up a very good fight, he said.

'We had a very tough speech, and I threw it out last night, I said I can't say these things after what I've been through.'

This is a golden opportunity for Trump to give the speech of his life, one of the most important speeches in American history.

That was intense. I think we can all agree that he’s not the same Donald Trump he was a few days ago.
